My husband had the set menu and chose chili prawns to start followed by rump steak, both dishes superb, prawns delicious and steak cooked to perfection. I had the 10oz rump steak which was also cooked perfectly and the flavours overall awesome. The waiter was lovely, couldn't do enough and checked that everything was to our liking. Will definitely be back, can't recommend enough, 10 out of 10, thank you.

Visited on 27th May as a party of 4.This is a tiny restaurant that comes with great food and service. 3 courses all round which were delicious, with fantastic service from Weronika.No hesitation in recommending, will be back next time I'm in York!(Make sure you book as there are only about 8 tables!)

I booked a table for my mum, my daughters and I online. I arrived at the restaurant to be told I had only booked the table for two. It was my mums 70th birthday but the servers loud response was ‘it is not my fault ‘in quite an aggressive manner. No I would love to help but I can’t. My daughter said thank god we didn’t eat there if that response was anything to go by. It was shockingly rude. Shame.

We booked for our anniversary meal, and we were not disappointed! Fantastic service from start to finish, and the food was excellent. Will definitely go again!

Great service, great food and a great music playlist. Steak and sea bass were brilliantly cooked and seasoned. The desserts were lush. Great location for York. Good pricing. Definitely would come again.

Did a lot of searching on the net. Found this one and booked well in advance. Arrived to a very warm welcome. It’s very small but that added to the experience. Waitress was so busy but ran this place so well. Food was fantastic. Can’t recommend this place highly enough. What a find. Will definitely return next time we’re in York.

A fantastic little find. We have been to York many times and never discovered this little place but are so pleased to have done so this this time around.Perfectly cooked food with great, friendly service. This is a small venue so not too crowded or loud but it does mean that you may well need to book ahead. We will definitely be back on our next visit.

My husband and I first visited this restaurant in October 2020 and couldn't wait to return after lockdown. At both our visits, the food was absolutely first class and the service was excellent - friendly and helpful but not intrusive.Tonight we had the deep fried brie and the mixed grill to start. We had fillet steak and the lamb for the main course, followed by the lemon possett and the sticky toffee pudding for dessert. The meats were cooked to perfection and the accompanying sauces were delicious and plentiful.We will certainly be returning! Highly recommended!

Had the Christmas set menu to celebrate my partners birthday - food was absolutely delicious and our waitress Weronika was so welcoming warm yet professional. We had a really lovely evening and can’t wait to come back in the new year!

My partner and me visited the Corner Grill House just after lockdown 2 ended and it was a mixed night for us both. Firstly the place is small and cramp without covid, I personally would feel uncomfortable as I don’t like sitting to close to other tables. With covid and being one of the first weekends after lockdown, it didn’t feel like they did much for the covid restrictions. We sat next to a table of two that were very close to us with no divide between. We both felt uncomfortable at that point. The food, I thoroughly enjoyed the steak and chips, perfectly cooked for me and a really nice ribeye. My partner felt her steak was over cooked, to which I did as well but still thought it tasted alright, and she didn’t think much of the chips either. I do think the menu needs more sides though, there was no veg really, no mushrooms, tomatoes, onion rings as some examples.I would visit again, as I enjoyed my steak but I would want to visit when it was a quieter time. My partner is not convinced though.

By far the best meal I've had and the waitress was very welcoming and helpful, if your struggling for somewhere to go in york please give this place ago

A really pretty intimate restaurant with exceptionally well cooked food. The medium rare Lamb fillet was faultless. Great, friendly hosts with excellent service.

This is a wonderful little restaurant. Food is amazing and they have a gorgeous Malbec. Recommend the ribeye and the prawns. We had an absolutely delightful evening. A must when you’re in York.

We had dinner at this restaurant on one of our nights in York. We read good reviews and with it being a small restaurant (it has about a seating for 14 people), we reserved a table.Really lovely and laid back atmosphere but have put safety COVID-19 measures for staff and people dining in e.g. use hand gels before entering, face masks on staff and plastic screen dividers between tables.They offer a 2 or 3 course set menus, as well as a la carte menus. We went a la carte menu as they offered grilled options.For starters we ordered the Chorizo Sausage and Creamy Prawns. Both tasted and looked great. For mains we got the lamb leg and ribeye steak with 2 sides of our choice from the list. Both were amazing and done perfectly. The peppercorn sauce really was a highlight for me. Desserts, which is my favourite part, we had a creme brulee and sticky toffee pudding. Both lived up to expectations and rounded off the dinner very well.The host was really attentive and friendly, whilst being efficient.

A wonderful restaurant, perfect for a special occasion, romantic night out or a family night out.We thoroughly enjoyed our recent visit to Corner Grill House, the atmosphere was cosy and relaxed. Before we had even sat down, you had a sense that a great evening lay ahead... we were not disappointed.We ordered the spicy paprika prawns to start, which were delicious. To follow we had 2 x Ribeyes ( one with creamed leeks and sauté potatoes & 1 with chips, mash and wilted spinach) 1 x Seabass and the Vegetarian pasta. All were perfectly cooked and presented, tasting amazing. We washed the steaks down with a fine Rioja and some Ice cold Peronis. The only regret was that none of us had enough room to sample the puds! The service was friendly, welcoming and most attentive, (nothing was too much trouble), yet relaxed enough to give us some time to breathe and relax in between courses. Perfection! It won’t be long before we return.

Right from entering the restaurant we were made to feel welcome by excellent, attentive staff. Food is amazing the steak and lamb we had were cooked to perfection. Great atmosphere Would definitely recommend and will definitely visit next time we’re in York

Visited the Corner Grill House on a Monday evening, to support local independent businesses, wasn’t disappointed. We had the set Menu, Waiter very friendly and attentive, taking the time to explain the dessert recipe, food arrived swiftly and was delicious. Will return.

Wonderful steaks, wine and service. We all had a fabulous meal and an enjoyable time. The front of house man serving could not have been more helpful or amenable and the wine was fantastic. Our kids had a Mixed Grill starter as a main - there is no kids menu - but they loved it and enjoyed it with sweet potatoe fries. We all had a lovely meal and a lovely time. Thank you!

Came here with my wife and 1 year old son.Very nice, comfy restaurant.Highchair was already set up and the waiter was very friendly with our son.Garlic and Chili Prawns and garlic mushrooms for starters which were great.For our mains, we got the chicken and pork tenderloin.Thought they were okay but expected a bit more from it. The ingredients like the cheese sauce and even the rocket were tastier than the meat.Nearly a 5 star from me but was not quite there.Price was reasonable for location of restaurant.Would visit again in the future but would probably get a steak.

La qualité de la viande est au top, les accompagnements aussi sont très bons et c'est fait maison. La qualité des plats est indéniable.Les desserts aussi étaient à tomber! Le serveur était super et attentionné. Le restaurant est un peu petit, pensez à reserver! Le seul reproche est le choix des vins, très limité.

¡Qué joya escondida! La comida y el servicio fue absolutamente increíble, lo recomiendo encarecidamente. Para comenzar, comimos gambas con ají y ajo con pan crujiente para mojar en la hermosa salsa. Bistec de chuletón que se cocinó a la perfección con puerros crema (GUAU) y patatas fritas. También tenía el pollo cajún con el puré más cremoso y deliciosas zanahorias. No me puedo quejar de esta comida en absoluto.

Cena para dos, los entrantes fueron queso brie frito y sopa. Muy recomendable. Los platos principales fueron la lubina y un chuletón. Muy recomendable. Postres creme brulle y panacotta. Adivina qué, muy recomendable. Disfrutamos muchísimo de la velada, personal agradable y amable en un ambiente encantador. Volveríamos sin dudarlo. 10/10.

Online booking was simple. Food (we both had a steak) was really nice with lovely atmosphere and friendly service. Our table was delayed so the restaurant called us in advance so we didn’t turn up early which was great.

Hola, mi esposo reservó este restaurante para nuestro aniversario, estábamos celebrando nuestros 43 años de matrimonio, no sabíamos qué esperar, pero el ambiente era encantador, era pequeño y acogedor, la camarera se llamaba Veronica, estaba sonriente, alegre y nos sentó, pedimos el vino, luego nuestras comidas, fue delicioso, mi esposo estaba tomando bistec de hueso y yo comí carne de res y luego para el postre, comí pudín de toffee pegajoso y mi esposo comió crem bulee, toda la comida fue excelente, me gustaría agradecer al chef y a Verónica por la noche y sigan con su buen trabajo si estamos en York nuevamente, definitivamente volveremos a reservar este restaurante gracias x

A wonderful but very small restaurant just at the top of Walmgate. A lovely warm welcome from Weronika. The food is fantastic although slightly limited given its size. Make sure you book you won't be disappointed. A hidden gem and good value too.

The restaurant is small but it offers a nice atmosphere to eat in. Food was excellent and very well priced. I would advise booking as they tend to be very busy but for good reason.

Came here in July just after restaurants re-opened & had a brilliant time The meal & service was all brilliant! Arguably the best steak in York We will be back & would highly recommend to anyone!

La comida es buena. El servicio es bueno. Densidad de la mesa demasiado alta (incluso antes de Covid). Realmente me gustaría no escuchar dos conversaciones a mi lado.Para ser justos, nuestra mesa era la peor del restaurante. Justo en medio de una línea de tres mesas dobles. Esto estropeó la velada y la comida. Realmente deberían eliminar esta tabla.No es una gran experiencia para el cliente. Lo siento.

On a weekend trip to york we chose to eat at this establishment. The staff here were great and following covid rules. Very friendly and courteous. Going on to the food there is nothing I can say but it was amazing. The lamb and the steak was cooked to perfection and the portions were very good. Would recommend anyone to visit.

Tiniest restaurant ever! Small but great. Recommend that you book as it only has a few tables. The lovely hostess (sorry can't remember her name) was very welcoming and friendly. Drinks orders taking when seated and thenleft a short while to praise the menu before returning to take the food order. Didn't feel rushed or neglected. She was constantly busy welcoming, taking orders, serving and clearing tables but not once ignored any of the guests. The food menu is limited but varied and has enough to please everyone. We opted for the 10oz steak. It was cooked to perfection. You pay a little more than the chain restaurants but the food and service is quality. There nothing bad to say about this little place. If we're visiting again we'll definitely book again.

We booked this restaurant because of the excellent reviews, ignoring the occasional critical one. I'm afraid we're in the "critical" camp!Okay, this is a very small restaurant and they had made a reasonable effort to spread the tables out. It didn't help that guests arriving after us, took one look at their table, moaned about the lack of social distancing and walked out....The menu looked quite good so we duly ordered. My "creamy" prawn starter (£7.50), consisted of 6 prawns, a sauce, 2 pieces of toasted bread and one piece of "untoasted" bread. The chorizo sausage starter (£7.50) was quite well-flavoured BUT, a mistake on the menu describing it as "curried" really needs to be corrected!The mains were extremely disappointing. The fillet steaks lacked seasoning, the peppercorn sauce (additional cost) was weak with a distinct lack of the all-important peppercorns! The chips and the sautéd potatoes were undercooked. Wow...the highlight of this course had to be the creamed leeks and the sautéed spinach....not good!Unfortunately, a disappointing dinner and a restaurant we will not be returning to.

Excellent fillet steak accompanied by two sides that were very nice though quite small. This was fine for us but some people might want more. Essential to book as there was space for just 14 customers.

Watch out for the terms and conditions. The late booking times will leave you no options if you have travel issues. They will want you to come but kitchen closes very early. I communicated and let them know I was trying and that I would be late - they said come but we are closing. I couldn’t do it in the time so they charged me the deposits. So this is not a customer listening restaurant but very bolshy in attitude!Good luck with that approach.

We visited the Grill House this weekend, excellent food (husband said the steak was outstanding), service and value for money. Well worth a visit! Well done Corner Grill House, we will be returning soon.

While I enjoyed the meal that night I could not in all conscious call the restaurant safe if you are worrying about COVID-19. The restaurant is on the corner, hence the name, but the tables are far to close together and it spoiled my night as I felt uncomfortable being so close to the other diners. Can't fault the waitress who was faultless in her attention but to be honest would never have booked here if I had known how close we would be to other people.

Went with our daughter and partner as part of a staycation. Had a really lovely evening. The food is great, not a lot of choice but everything perfectly cooked and served with a smile. The restaurant is tiny so the ambience is good also. It was full when we visited so there was a happy buzz of conversation. Weronika who served us (and everyone else dining) is an absolute star. We’ll definitely visit again

Hands down the best meal I've ever had, and my partner said the same. The beef fillet steak was cooked to perfection, and the sides were great. The waitress was welcoming, and the atmosphere warm. Creme brulé was perfect also. 100/100, as the prices are fair too.

I agree completely with almost everything that has been said about this delightful little restaurant. The food is outstanding and the service excellent. Not only did the owner/waitress remain on top of all the 7 tables....yes, of course, they are relatively close together and one couple walked away because of this....but she approached every customer and potential customer at the door, with a smile and her efficient manner. Oh - I’d return tomorrow if I could.

We were visiting York (been a few times) and wanted steak. This restaurant fared well on TA so I booked for 2 on a Monday night. It's a small restaurant and was fully booked when we arrived. Him indoors had prawns in a cream sauce for starters and we both had fillet steak for main. Wonderful quality food, just the right size of portion so we had room for sticky toffee pudding and panna cotta for dessert. Everything was delicious, we will definitely eat here again next time we visit York.

Everything was perfect from the starter to the dessert. Visited with my partner, we went for the 22£ 3-courses menu which was simply flawless. Starter was great and full of flavour, pork (main course) was tender to the right point and the panna cotta was just extraordinary, probably one of the best I’ve ever had. Selection of wines was high quality. Service was amazing, Stefan was lovely! Will definitely come back if I have the chance.

We had a meal here on the last night of our trip. This is a small bistro, very cosy but very pleasant. The lady serving us was very helpful and pleasant. I had the Chilli and Garlic Prawns. Really nice, it didn't blow your head off and was very tasty. For the main course, I had the pork and it was lovely, well cooked and the sauce was excellent. Our food was off the set menu but there is an A la carte menu as well. Not overpriced and good value.

Prior to a 3 day break to York I had a look on TA for restaurant reviews and this took my fancy and my wife and I were not disappointed. I booked a table in advance and glad I did as the restaurant is very small with only 6/7 tables and all full when we arrived at 7.30 on a Wednesday evening. We were served by Veronica who was the only server but she was very friendly and attentive. My wife and I had starters followed by a Rib Eye steak for my wife and a Fillet for me both cooked to perfection. With the steaks and sides we had a bottle of wine followed by coffees Bailleys and ice and another beer. The bill was £98 for the 2 of us but worth it for the quality of food and service and ambience on the night. Whether you are a local or on a visit to York this must be on your list of restaurants to try.

We had read amazing reviews on here about the food and we was not disappointed! We both ordered rib eye steak with sides of creamy mash, creamed leaks, buttered carrots and sweet potato fries! Also paid extra for sauces. Everything on our plates was exceptional and decided its probably the best steak we have ever had! The waitress who served us was also very friendly and attentive. This is a must go if you're in York!

We originally had a reservation for 21:30 and had asked if they could let us know if they had anyone cancel an earlier reservation and we would take that one, which is what happened, so we got to eat when we'd actually wanted to, which was great. The atmosphere, service and food were all very good. We can recommend the Rib eye and the pork tenderloin mains. All of the side dishes we had were also high quality. We would definitely visit again on future trips to the area.

Oh my word ! We ate here last night (end of August) We both had steak which you could have cut with a spoon . Sides were piping hot and really tasty. Fab Gluten Free choices too even with desserts ! Would recommend

Having been taken away by my more sophisticated partner to York for a couple of childless nights of bliss (anyone with children will probably agree that even a couple of nights in Lebanon would be bliss if it meant not having your children mythering around you like some kind of annoying bluebottle trying to repeatedly land in the middle of your food)I had no idea as to where I was being led to and upon approaching the The Corner Grill House it became apparent to me just how small this place was - I had just being marched past an array of new Italian restaurants which appeared to be able to accommodate more people than the largest of nightclubs and here I was standing in the doorway of this restaurant looking at the only available table that was positioned directly in front of the opened doorway. The table looking to be more suitably sized for a child and we were greeted by a very friendly lady who I think was called Weronika who welcomed us through the doorway, which most properly sized men would have to exhale to fit through and into the restaurant and sat us at the above mentioned table. I immediately announced to my partner that I wouldn’t be speaking to her whilst in the restaurant as anything I said would clearly be a conversation with the other half dozen tables in the restaurant. On sitting down and fathoming through the menu we both ordered 3 courses along with a bottle of red. The food was brilliant.I had soup starter,which was mushroom and is my favourite soup and was blended and full of flavour.My partner had creamy mushrooms which was also delightful.For mains we both had the 10oz Ribeye with sides of your choice.These steaks were cooked to perfection (mine was Rare and hers Medium Rare) although not the most flavoursome Ribeye I’ve had it is apparent that the chef clearly cooks steaks on a daily basis.The ribeye is not my most favourite cut of meat as I personally prefer a slab of Rump however the other steak option on the menu was a Fillet at 6oz which I don’t think would of squashed my hunger.For dessert we both shared a chocolate brownie and a sticky toffee pudding which were both fantastic. We were offered coffees however declined on the basis we were both full.What a brilliant little place, serving great food that was cooked to perfection.A very friendly atmosphere and a very reasonable bill price for the centre of York.

Me and my wife had a meal here on Saturday night. We pre booked and our table was ready for us when we arrived. If you like your steak then you will have to try this place. Excellent food with great flavours and the steaks are cooked to perfection. The service is also as good as the food. A very quaint restaurant with plenty of character and great atmosphere. We will be booking again soon

Visited the CG on a Friday night. Lovely cosy place and the petite setting made it feel very friendly. Attentive service from Weronika and the food was great. Certainly not large portions but equally not too small and the quality was great. £90 with a bottle of wine but there was a cheaper set menu option at £22 each. Definelty would recommend and look forward to going back some day. A lovely evening.

Looking at the restaurants available in York and craving for a steak we decided to stop here.We arrived 45 minutes earlier than our reservation and sadly we got sent to have a drink somewhere else.When we finally managed to get to our dinner we had a brie to start followed by a fillet and a rib eye along with some sides and a nice bottle of red.The food was cooked to perfection and it was complemented by the amazing service of Weronika. The wine selection is very small but the cabernet sauvignon turned out to be amazing.We left stuffed, tipsy, happy and willing to come back if were ever back in town.

What a find and so close to our hotel! The whole street appears to be a gastronome’s delight. What a truly cool area of York. Corner Grill House has only fourteen covers. The menu is simple and short but just perfect,All four of us enjoyed our food, the choice of wines and the great service. Wish we lived closer, it would be our regular restaurant.

We were looking for a place to dine on our first night of holiday in York and found this magnificent hidden gem.The service was superb. Our waitres Weronika made us feel very welcome and we were well looked after during our visit.We started our dinner with a delicious creamy prawns (highly recommended) followed by a juicy rib eye steak cooked to perfection.All our meal was well accompanied by a delicious red wine recommended by the Weronika too.Definetly a hidden gem that worth visiting if you are in York.

We booked as a couple for a meal, our first time out this year and we was so pleased we chose this restaurant. The waitress weronika is very friendly and welcoming. The restaurant is small but it adds to the atmosphere, cosy and romantic. The service was prompt and food was so amazing, we had 3 courses and ate every bite! Such amazing tasting food. The restaurant and toilet are clean and the seating is comfortable. We will definitely be returning.

We booked an evening meal 05/08/20 6.30 pm for my husband's birthday and we were not disappointed.We read previous reviews on trip advisor and the food and service exceeded our expectations.Veronica was very good at her job and the restaurant adhered to Covid regulations.My husband had pate, for starters I had prawns then we both had rib eye steak cooked to perfection by Radek the chef.We were so full after the first 2 courses we had no room for desert ha ha.I must add the kitchens and the restaurant itself was immaculately clean.This was our first visit to York and it will not be our last.We are already looking to return quite soon.Thank you Julie and Tony

I can honestly say, what a wonderful meal, the service and food were impeccable the only down fall for me was there is only one shared toilet, it is a very small venue but would rather have separated loos, strongly advise to book and visit, you will not be dissapointed!

A cosy bistro - only 7 tables so need to book! The food was fabulous! If you love a really good steak, this if the place to go. Delicious sides and peppercorn sauce. Starters and pud yum too! Staff delightful! 🥰 Highly recommend!

Beautiful food, really friendly waitress excellent service. We will deffinately visit again. Limited drinks menu as we don't drink wine, but plenty of wine to choose from if you do.

Wonderful meal. Had a lovely time here. The waitress was lovely and the meal itself was one of the best i have had. Small menu gives them a chance to focus on the good things. It is a small place but it does feel comfortable when eating there. Could not fault anything about this place. One diner had the set menu and the other didn’t so they were completely flexible.

Fantastic place , people cosy and friendly . Food was just perfect . Real gem of a find ! Don’t usually write reviews , hence no photo as I ate it all before realising how good It was .

Only 7 tables in this very quaint restaurant in the centre of York. Welcomed by Weronika who is very attentive and friendly.Opted for the 6oz beef fillet which was so tender. Comes with 2 sides so had the hand cut chips and creamy leaks.Washed down with a lovely chilled bottle of sauvignon blanc.This small place gets very busy so please book early if you want a table.

I thoroughly recommend this restaurant. We chose from the set menu which had a great choice. Weronika, our waitress, was wonderful and attentive.The food was fantastic, the best pork tenderloin that I have ever tasted. This is a small restaurant so booking is recommended. You won’t be disappointed.

Came to York for a weekend away and stumbled across this place via tripadvisor. The food was lovely - my steak was cooked perfectly. What the restaurant lacks in size it makes up for with the ambience, food, and staff. The lady that served us was an absolute delight; very kind, professional and talkative.Would highly recommend if you’re visiting York but make sure to book!!

We dined here on stay to York, first trip away post lockdown easing. It is a small intimate place and therefore difficult to socially distance, but they have done a good job and we felt completely safe in there.And thank goodness we booked to go there, as the food was absolutely delicious, and was very good value. Service was very good and waitress was very friendly and helpful, Would definitely dine here again given the chance.

An excellent experience all round from the succulent steak to the simply delicious accompaniments, namely the creamed leeks, to the impeccably attentive service from Weronika, this was a true find! Such a cosy little place with a small menu educated extremely well. You will not be disappointed!
