It's a 'special' Greek menu this weekend and my husband and l went last evening (Friday). We both had the Kleftiko' (shoulder of lamb served on the bone), served with potatoes and meditetarrean vegetables. Absolutely, utterly DIVINE! The lamb was so tender and fell off the bone and the potatoes and veg were perfect. Phil is an awesome chef and l highly recommend eating here. Everything is a taste sensation! Well done Mark, Phil and team! ❤😋

This pub in a suffolk village is awesome. Good landlord, great food at a very good price.Very good .All local customers are friendly Rooms are very cozy not like hotel rooms. All in all a good nights stay or visit. As its a couple of miles off the main road, no problem. This is a different world. The owls hoot at night along with other wild life, and sparse traffic. No street lights. Its a world apart. recommended 100%.

Doing some family ancestry research in the village and called in at lunchtime. Very friendly welcome - and an excellent pint of Adnams Southwold bitter dispensed by handpump. We stayed for lunch and were not disappointed, my ‘boatmans’ Ploughman’s was superb with generous portions of prawns, crayfish, roll mop herrings and scampi, my cousin’s Picnic Platter was equally excellent including Sausage Roll and Scotch Egg. We could not believe the value for such high quality. Everyone was very friendly and offered help with our research. I would recommend without hesitation.

Car parking is now more difficult. A lot of locals clearing enjoying themselves which is good for the pub. But it was open on a Sunday late afternoon which has a great deal to be said for it and sold food till to 8. Plastic table cloths put us off. Nothing on the menu attracted us. So didn't stay.

One night stay in hotel room + dinner + breakfast. We have stayed here previously and were again made very welcome with lots of attention to detail. We had double room with en-suite shower; the building is very old, but adapted well for modern facilities, inc. good wifi. Exceptional dinner - we had starts x2 - fish platter (outstanding) and battered mushrooms ( brilliant). Our mains were moussaka (decent) and Cajun chicken wrap (enormous and exceptionally good). Good local beers. Cooked breakfast freshly done for us. This is a great place for a stay and / or dinner.

As a group of 9 walkers staying locally this was within walking distance and therefore convenient. We turned up unannounced on the Tuesday night and had a good meal - varied choice from set price menu and good value. The girl behind the bar was also the waitress and coped very well.We pre-booked takeaway fish and chips for the Friday. This was disappointing. We had to wait half an hour for our order. The huge fish was fresh and the batter crispy but the chips were undercooked and not pleasant. We booked for sunday evening "roast". This time a lone boy was the bar tender and waiter. Food overall good, special mention for the turkey. the beef had varied reviews from perfectly cooked and tender to undercooked and tough. Very good value.

We didn't book in advance and turned up and ordered a round of drinks and then around 30minutes later placed our food order. We waited around 20minutes for our food which considering the size of the order was fantastic as you would normally wait around the same time if you were a party of 2/3/4! We visited the Sir Alfred Munnings on the recommendation of previous customers in the holiday cottage we were staying in (they have a book for guests to leave recommendations (or not) on places they've visited or eaten at whilst in the area). The pub looks very nice from outside, however inside the place is tired and worn and I feel somewhat confused - all the tables, even those in the bar area have thin white tables clothes on (with bar mats on top)....seemed a bit odd, however the bar man was pleasant enough and we decided to try the food. The menu (at lunchtime anyway) is 1 course for £6.95, 2 for £8.95 and 3 for £10.something.I chose Moussaka with garlic bread and salad. My husband the Ham, egg and chips.Husband reported that his chips were hard (under cooked), although I did notice that he cleared his plate. The Moussaka just tasted of a nasty oil, nothing else and it was cold in the middle, it really wasnt very nice, the garlic bread was only flavoured/toasted on one side, the otherside was plain white and cold. The salad was fresh. We decided not to try deserts and instead went back to our cottage and raided the biscuit tin. This may have been an off day, or we may have chosen the wrong dishes but the best we could say is that the place is cheap.

This small-ish village pub gave off a cosy atmosphere as soon as we entered. We ordered drinks at the bar, which were then brought over to a small lounge area where we sat while we perused the menu. The 2-course or 3-course dinner menus were very good value. My "Mendham Beef Bourgignon" was lovely and tender, but after this and an entree I was sadly too full to have the Eton Mess that I'd had my eye on - they say all desserts are homemade and my friends said theirs were all lovely (cheesecake, syrup pudding, etc). I agree with other reviewers that the waiter service was attentive but unintrusive, more like you'd expect in a high class restaurant than a village pub - so a nice surprise. An extra touch were the Alfred Munnings horse-themed paintings around the walls - so I got educated about him as well as wellfed that night !

I eat here occasionally. They serve good home cooked food at reasonable prices, but what impresses me most is the service, which is attentive but unintrusive. They get bonus points from me for always (so far) being able to accommodate guest requests even though these have been sprung on them - gluten free, vegetarian options, lunchtime special served in the evening, all no problem. Despite being in the middle of nowhere (amongst glorious water meadows) they appear to be thriving, and I imagine this is why. No garden, which is a real shame.

Located in the beautiful Waveney Valley the Munnings is a relaxed and informal village pub that offers excellent food at most reasonable prices. With four options for each course a three course lunch on Bank Holiday Monday was under £11.00 and a two course under £9.00. The menu for the evening meal looked equally as appealing both in terms of the dishes being offered and the price. This is the centre point of a contender for the Best Kept Village of 2014 and having eaten there on three occasions now, I can understand why. A family business who are very personable and a lovely young Barman called Tom who helps out in the Kitchen as well.Monday - Friday they offer lunchtime Specials: One course @ £5.95, two course @ £7.95 and three course for £9.50! Unbelievable value when you consider we wouldn't get a Starter for the cost of a three course meal where we live!!Evenings Monday - Thursday inclusive also offer a two course for £10, so no excuse not to give this hidden gem a try when you're next on the Suffolk/Norfolk borders. The food is plentiful, very well prepared using local produce when available and always fresh. Good selection of Starters, Main Course and delicious Deserts. Remember to book whether you're going to try lunch times or evenings as this is definitely somewhere the locals will come back to on a regular basis.

At the time the restaurant was empty but it was only five o'clock, by the time we left it was virtually full and we all understood why. The food was extremely good, decent sized starters, I had whitebait, it was the best I had had for years. My husband had steak for main and it melted in your mouth. Some of out children sampled the chocolate pudding for dessert, this was also fabulous, all in all very well worth a visit. Sunday lunch was very poor. The choice offered is small, roast beef, roast lamb, trout and a vegetarian tartlet (which was finished and replaced with a goat's cheese filo roulade). I chose the lamb; it appeared to me that the meat had been cooked, allowed to cool and the sliced (very thinly) by machine. It was served with far too much for my taste thin flavourless gravy, OK roast potatoes, mashed potatoes and plain boiled cabbage and carrot. Very much institutional catering style.I have now been to the Munnings for lunch four times since the current owners opened. The first time the food was delicious but each subsequent time has been worse than the last. I won't return unless, as on this occasion, I was a guest.

After a round of rather expensive and horribly poor-quality fish and chips on Southwold Pier a few days before, the offering here was a reminder of how they should be. The chips were the real-deal; hand-cut and properly double-fried so they were crispy and delicious. The fish was great quality and in a lovely beer-batter. The other diners had the burger and steak and ale pie served with lots of gravy (Adnams in the gravy) and generous portions of vegetables. Apparently the quality (and prices) of the Alfred Munnings has gone up and down, but it appears to be in an up period for quality with cheaper prices. The menu covers the basics with a few more adventurous elements and does them very well. Definitely want to go back and will be dreaming about those chips until we do!

Called ahead for a Sunday evening meal, and while menu restricted to Sunday "lunch" menu, they were very helpful in offering 5 main course options for the vegetarians in the party. Starters were pleasant, main roasts were good and the two vegetarian curry options were very good. Puddings followed and were excellent - lemon creme brule one best puds in a long time!! We were looked after very nicely, and when they discovered they had run out of mini shortbreads to go with one of the puddings, gave us a plateful of homemade chocolate fudge as well! Prices were reasonable, Adnams beer as good as usual.

visited here recently as part of a large group- 35 people - and found it a better-than-average experience in pleasant surroundings. The food was above average for a country pub, and the beef in the Bourguinon. soft and flavoursome. Because we were a big crowd we were a bit cramped but this would not be the case ordinarily. The service was helpful and cheerful and we would certainly return, especially as you can get Pensioners (or "Mature Peoples'") lunches from Monday-Friday for £5 for 1 course going up to £8.50 for 3 courses, all very good value.

We booked a Sunday lunch in this pub after finding it on a tourist advice site, and not knowing anywhere else in the area. From the outside it looks like a typical village pub. But once inside that changed. We was greeted by the staff shown the menu's and while we had a quite drink making up our minds what to have, the staff we're very helpful with suggestions and choice. The meal although served in the bar area was very good, breaded brie to start then a chicken and a cannelloni with fresh veg. This meal was very good everything was cooked well ans tasted Mmmm.If you want a good no very good pub lunch and in the area call in.

Booked here for Valentines meal. Unlike other places Valentines was not only on the 14th but right through until 16th.which is when we went. Could not fault the food or the service. It was without doubt, one of ,if not , the best meal and service we have had for a long time. Well done to all. Cannot wait to return.

I stumbled upon this restaurant while cycling In Suffolk, me and my Husband had dinner here.... It was a very poor experience....I had an Omelette and chips, the chips were soggy and brown and the omelette was tasteless and Raw in the middle. My Husband had steak which was meant to be sirloin but it wasn't it looked like a cheap sizzle steak and again had the same soggy brown chips. I complained to one of the staff members who was not very attentive she seemed more bothered about texting on her phone and flirting with the locals! I refused to pay the bill due to this awful experience! Needless to say we wont be returning!

We stayed here for 2 nights and ate a total of 5 meals here. We were using a Groupon and have never been to this part of norfolk before. The restuarant surroundings were very traditional with numerous horse paintings by Sir alfred Munnings adorning the walls. It was clean, comfortable and very well mantained. The saturday evening was very busy and had a choice of food over 2 menus. One was quite contempory which included seabass and pork belly and the other consisted of traditional pub favourites like scampi and chips and bangers and mash. We both picked contempory meals and have to say both were absolutely AMAZING! Everything served was cooked to perfection and full of flavour. The service was great and we couldn't fault it. They even carried our drinks from the lounge to the table! Breakfast the next day was equally as faultless. The full english was generous and once again perfectly cooked. The ingredients all seemed to be top notch and very fresh. We returned for lunch which was a different menu from the day before as it was a sunday. We both had roast dinners which were absolutely lovely. Seasonal veg was served seperately and seemed to be unlimited. The yorkshire puddings were huge and roasties crispy. The portions were again generous and were served with the upmost of politeness and efficiency. We ate later inthe evening on the sunday as we were both still full from lunch. The owner was kind enough to allow us to pick from the full menu instead of just the sunday one which gave us much more choice. We were once again treated to a perfectly cooked, generous and delicous meal. The service was just as good as before despite it being busier than usual for a sunday. We did have to wait for our food this time but the staff apologised profusely and we were given a chocolate treat with our coffee.Overall I would recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for good food!!

We visited again last night, our third visit, very friendly staff, very helpful. Food and service excellent. They were also very happy to adapt the menu to suit a coeliac, it was all no problem at all, they even had gluten free bread on offer. Very impressed. All three of our visits have been faultless, very nice evenings each time.

Being local i thought i would support one of my local restaurants, however not a pleasant experience .After waiting over one hour for our food,i was very disappointed with my meal, scampi dry, chips so brown they looked burnt ,i didnt know we had a local crematorium, but then again with the having to wait over a hour for the meal, perhaps they come from St FAITHS crematorium in Norwich.,not enjoyable at all.On paying bill a token discount was offered,Of £2.00.

We came on 14/10/24 for a family wake. Mandy and Simon did an amazing job of making the room welcoming and accommodating us with all our wishes. The service and food were of excellent quality with a very fair price and there was plenty for all. It was so nice that even the cakes were iced in the favourite colours of our late family member, not requested but we felt was such a lovely added touch. Thank you Mandy and Simon, we would definitely recommend you.

3 of us had lunch here. We all chose something different and each dish was great. Everything was lovely and fresh. The soup was homemade with a generous portion of bread. The sandwich from the specials was accompanied by two types of salad as was the sausage roll. The service was efficient and friendly too. I highly recommend.

Found the cafe purely by accident, on the High Street, stopping in Loddon for something to do on a rather autumnal day. You will find it near to the take away and funeral services, but don't let that deter you...So glad we popped in! Wide choice of cakes and some savouries, including vegan and/or gluten free. Huge pot of tea! Pretty tea room, very well equipped single toilet. Family affair, mother and two daughters bake everything on site. Long chat with lovely Lisa, so enthusiastic about their business. We only tasted a quiche and blackberry cake, but goodness, so delicious, and if a hint of other produce from their fine hands, well worth a further visit or cake order. Apparently mum Julie runs craft classes upstairs too.. talented family. We wish you continued success and will hopefully see you next holiday.
