Me and my friend Annette stopped at The Shuckburgh Arms last Saturday until Sunday morning. We had such a lovely time we didn't want to leave. The hospitality of Georgia and Paul was absolutely fantastic they were so warming to us and made you feel very welcome. The evening meal and breakfast was really nice I would definitely come back again. The room was cosy and the bed was very comfy. Thank you Georgia and Paul.

Hopsitality second to none,we were made to feel extreamly welcome and at home,Georgia and paul are the loveliest couple who cant do enough for you. Bar staff friendly and easy going. Room was very comfortable and clean with a homely cosy feel. Food was excellent and reasonably priced. Lovely quiet location only a few minutes drive from the picturesque town of oundle. We will be going back very soon and hope the weather is nice enough to sit in the beer garden with its lovely views. Georgia and paul deserve to continue to do well in their new venture with the shuckburgh arms. Well wishes Jamie and AJ 😊

Phoned and booked a table for two, Wed evening. Friendly greeting and choice of table. Good choice of Beer and Wine. Nice chat to Mine Host , who then took our order. Very good choice of menu to which we both chose a starter, followed by Ribeye Steak. We couldn’t have made a better choice, the steak was cooked to perfection and came with all the trimmings and ooh the Stilton sauce!! Unfortunately we hadn’t left any room for a pudding, but I bet they would have been delicious! A lovely meal at a reasonable price! Thank you Paul and Georgia, we will return 🤗 Tom n Lindsay

After a very warm welcome we were settled into our rooms. OMG they were amazing! Soft bedding, lovely mattress and literally everything we could have asked for. I made a cup of tea (proper teabags), a latte coffee and then worried about myself. I am lactose intolerant so I can’t drink the 3in1 packets usually provided, like the latte I’d just made. Then I saw the Kilner jar of instant coffee!!! All sorted! Just a little thing but so often forgotten! Dinner was lovely and the pub so comfortable. After an amazing night’s sleep and croissants (from the room) we said our goodbye’s and tried to work out how soon we could return. Thank you so much to Georgia and Paul! We willl be back!

We met friends here today for lunch. We all chose from a set lunch menu at a very reasonable price. We all decided to choose starters, two of us having Prawn cocktails and the other two, a gorgeous dish of Wild mushrooms with a cognac, garlic and cream sauce. The main courses were equally lovely and all dishes were well presented. It was the second time we have been there and on both occasions the owners have been so friendly. Called in for lunch after a walk in the area. Good selection of starters (6), mains (15) and desserts (6) but we chose a sandwich which had the option of adding fat chips with the salad. Did not choose this option and found that the sandwich with salad was satisfying enough without them. Chose the spicy cajun chicken sandwich in ciabatta roll which was perfect. For those with families there is a children's menu. Only one real ale on tap today (Osset Brewery) but that was obviously well kept and tasted very good. Usually there is more than one available. Only booked in the morning! Nice table for four in a warm part of the Pub - got our own drinks from the bar and checked out the Menu. We were advised as they were busy it would take a while to take our order - it was a while...Two of us chose the soup or Welsh Lamb Broth, this was very tasty but lacked some lamb, I had 3 new potatoes which I had to cut with my spoon and nice big pieces of carrot. I followed this with Thai Green Chicken Curry - this was very good indeed. Two had Steak in Oundle Ale and said it was good but the pie crust was "unusual".We will go back again if we could have the same table in the warm part of the pub! I can't bear to be near the door which is constantly opening and closing making it quite cold in that room. Staff were friendly and it wasn't too noisy even for a Saturday evening. I am surprised that The Shuckburgh Arms is not metioned under Oundle restaurants as Stoke Doyle is a small, attractive, village less than a mile from the outskirts of Oundle. I have eaten lunch here on a number of occaisions and I would agree with a recent review that said it was a perfect place for lunch. The pub/restuarant is in an old building as you go out of Stoke Doyle towards Thrapston. The view from the window is picturesque and on this early spring day was positively bucolic. The inside of the building is attractively decorated and had a clean and pleant appearnce without feeling antiseptic. The two course menu at £13.50 represents terrific value. My chum had Whitebait for starters andI had Duck's leg with prawn crackers and salad. They were both very nice and the smoked haddock au gatin we had as a main course was excellent. I drank a super local beer and my chum was on a very accptable White wine which came by the large glass. I didn't have an Irish Coffee as i was driving but my chum's looked very good.Originally I visited this restaurant as part of a group of chaps of an uncertain age and there were one or two amongst the party who remarked on the attractions of the landlady. Those of you who read my review of the Langland Brasserie in Swansea will know I have a thing about Welsh girls and it turns out the delightful Fran is from the principality. Everything is good about the Shuckborough Arms and Fran is the perfect landlady.

Writing this with mixed feelings, as this country pub was highly recommended by local friends who have lived in the village for years. We met family here for Lunch and the food could have been so much better, though the Manger was conscientious, because one of our number was a celiac. The Whitebait for my first course was excellent and my wife's liver Parfait was also good. However we both had Roast Beef for our main course and we were both very disappointed. The pub advertised roast potatoes cooked in Goose Fat, but when the plates arrived the food was not only lukewarm, EVERYTHING was drowned with far too much gravy. Both the potatoes and the Yorkshire puddings were soggy - and as the potatoes had been cooked whole they would not have stood a chance of crisping up anyway. The beef had a good texture and colour, but the benefit of any taste was obliterated by the gravy. For just shy of £13 per plate it was a crying shame the gravy couldn't have been served on the side, as it spoiled our long awaited Lunch together! We did not stay for desert. The pub has also sacrificed the fine atmosphere it used to have by cramming in as many tables as possible into the different rooms, and the wood stove was only burning a pilot light or a candle, on a cold blustery Sunday lunchtime. Please at least try to create a congenial atmosphere!

Had to wait 5 minutes or so for a beer, not because the place was busy, but because no staff were about despite customers already eating. Got a beer, asked for a menu and finally managed to order after another 10 minutes. Thereafter the service progressed reasonably well, despite quite an influx of people; but there was a wait of about 15 minutes for the sweet(one Eaton Mess for a fellow diner). I had a calamari starter which was good, followed by skeak and ale pie with chips and peas. The pie crust was gummy but the meat and gravey inside were good. The chips were large and a bit flowery. My companion had stroganoff, which he said he enjoyed. Not the best meal I have ever had but miles away from the worst.

Just returned from the Shuckburgh Arms had a lovely lunch ,asked if I could have the fish cakes as a main course instead of a starter no problem said Fran the landlady my wife had the smoked haddock with a cream sauce topped with a poached egg terrific.Pinapple panacota for dessert ,all washed down with glass of wine .Excellent value and service. Also if you like there is a menu of two main courses plus a bottle of wine for £30 excellent value the stakes are great.

Arrived and ordered the two course lunch. Had chorizo and black pudding starter( which got the taste buds going), then had beef and the steak and ale pie- which was absolutely full of steak. Finished off with a lovely glass of house red... will definitely visit again- a little gem just outside of Oundle.

We visited this restaurant for the first time. It was fully booked for the Saturday evening but they managed to find us a table for 6.30 pm through to 8 pm by when our table would be required. We thought the lady manager and the bar ladies/waitresses were very friendly and polite. The starters and food menu was a fairly limited choice, but we found something we liked.Steak pie and for my partner -and blade of beef for me .Both were delicious -although the beef, mash, gravy and cabbage were a bit too salty for my taste..We werent offered a wine list so not sure whether or not they have one.Our only disappointment was that the main eating restaurant which we were in (there seem to be three in all + a small room for one circular table) is where the bar is located and it felt like we were in someone's lounge. The tables are so close to the bar that whilst peole arrive and wait for their tables, a queue builds up right by where people are eating. It got very noisy around 8pm when it was getting very busy with new arrivals so we decided not to stay for desserts or coffee as it was too cramped and really noisy.

I stayed here on business last week and the hospitality provided by Fran, the landlady, was perfect. I had an incredible Steak and Ale pie, followed by one of the best Apple Pie and Custard puddings I've ever had! The room across the yard was also perfect. It was clean, warm and welcoming, just what I needed after the 200 mile journey I'd had. The pastries and juice, along with fresh milk in the morning where literally the icing on the cake. If you're ever in the area I wholeheartedly recommend both the food and the accommodation. I cant wait to go back.

This lovely pub is only 4 miles from where I live. I am spoilt for choice for pubs in this area, but I just keep going back here. Their Sunday Lunch is extremely generous, the beef slow cooked and the Yorkshire puddings enormous - delicious food with an extremely welcoming hostess and staff. They also do a great steak night which is very good value with meat all locally sourced. Great, friendly, child-friendly and welcoming in any season.

Sunday lunch...staff greeting was friendly and competent. The pub looks very plain from the outside but has lovely contemporary furniture and traditionally painted dark walls inside, candle/wick lights on all tables , fresh flower arrangements, good space between tables and plenty of space on the table (cramped and crowded tables being a bugbear of ours). Nicely done. Service attentive and good, polite and efficient. Avoid larger table by bar. I though it was too near people waiting to be served at the bar and all those poor people saw was bottoms. This is the only negative on the room. Food (beef) was plainly but well cooked and pink. A little underseasoned (not unusual for Sunday lunches out we find), Veg very well cooked. Roasties and Yorkshire were good too. Wine (2 glasses)particularly nice and with a whitebait starter which I would rate as top notch-great little salad and tasty dressing with it,and a bitter shandy, all came to £48. We will go back to try it in the evening. Has rooms too.

Found this place by chance, Arriving at 10 to 2 we asked if they were still serving, yes, just, so we stayed. Nice looking old building with contemporary quality interior decor that looked promising. Initial staff contact was positive, but unfortunately the other staff seemed more intent on getting tidied up to go home than serving the last of their customers. Service was slow and waiting staff had lost concentration. I had a starter and a dessert and my husband a main and cheese and biscuits. As requested the first part of the meal arrived together after 25 minutes, for poached salmon, which the waiter seemed to think was going to be served with salad, when actually it was veg. Too many undercooked new potatoes, on the plate with the salmon and in the veg dish, other wise acceptable. Whitebait was coated in quite nice crumb, but varied enormously in size between teeny and almost a sprat! Nice salad. Long delay for dessert from limited choice. Cheese was good and nicely presented with apple, but not enough biscuits for the amount of cheese. Shame the waitress gave him a dessert spoon to eat with initially!Eton Mess was fine, but had to ask for a smaller (teaspoon). Coffee machine was playing up and the result was rather cool. One pint and one J2o brought the bill to just short of £40. We left an hour and a half after arriving and don't expect to re visit.

Having previously had lunch at this venue, as a party of eight,on the above mentioned day, we had an excellent meal, the choice of food and portions were extremely good. The general ambience was excellent and the staff were efficient and friendly.I therefore have no hesitation in strongly recommending this restaurant for weekday lunch or a special occassion.R Sweeney

Very excited that we've found the perfect night out. The service was incredible, the food was delicious, the wine and drinks brilliant, the atmosphere just perfect. I think this could be the best find for a night out anywhere in the area. Plus the best Espresso Martini I've ever had. Planning the next visit already, thank you so much x

We stayed here on two occasions, in our campervan to the rear of inn. Quiet and good location. We enjoyed a nights sleep during both our stays. The staff at the inn are fabulous, welcoming and friendly and the owners are really doing a great job. The food was delicious and the ambiance of the inn was just what you’d hope for, log fire burning in the hearth, dog friendly and lots of positive chatter. I’d recommend this as a stopover and eatery.

I was taken here for afternoon tea by my friend. The whole event was great from start to finish. Excellent selection including sandwiches, mini quiche, crisps, cakes, lemon posset, meringues and scones with cream and jam - all decorated beautifully with edible flowers and pea shoots. I have since been lucky enough to experience afternoon tea at Bettys in York and The Dorchester …..The Boxwood Tea far outshone both of these. Would highly recommend.
