The Shoulder of Mutton in Harrogate

My wife and I have stayed in many Inn’s around the UK throughout the North, South, East and West and we can honestly say that the Shoulder of Mutton in Kirkby Overblow is right at the top of our “must stay” list. We have stayed here twice now and the rooms are modern, spotlessly clean, stylish, warm and cosy in the winter months. Kate and Richard and their staff are all such lovely people and are so friendly, helpful and accommodating. The locals are all so friendly too. The food is excellent, as is the beer. Breakfasts are fabulous. The pub itself is warm and inviting with a great atmosphere. If you ever find yourself in this part of Yorkshire then there is no better place to stay than the Shoulder of Mutton. Cannot recommend this place highly enough. Thank you.

We were made most welcome and appreciated the really comfortable bedroom shich was lacking for nothing . Thd bed was confortable and thd underfloor heating in the bathroom was particularly effective. We enjoyed our breakfast and evening meal.

Called in for a drink on the way home around 6pm Loads of empty tables set for food, looked around for a seat, none. Asked one of the staff if we could sit at one of the empty tables, no was the answer, they are booked😵‍💫😵‍💫 nowhere in a pub to have just a drink, we left and spent our hard earned at the Scots Arms

Last minute decision and really pleased we chose to go here. Food, drinks, service and atmosphere were all excellent. Will definitely be back.

A perfect British pub for us non-UK visitors! Delicious lamb, great beer and wine choices with a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Loved the rounded table and great service. A perfect spot for an enjoyable evening meal.

What a brilliant find. Richard was so natural on first meeting and explained everything very well. The room was beautifully, large, airy, fabulously appointed, immaculately clean and just perfect. The bathroom was big, spotless and warm. The tea tray was well stocked. Breakfast was served by Amanda and was utterly fabulous, with delicious home made granola. We are very often left disappointed by recent hotel stays but not this time, a total gem.

Excellent place for our short stay,room/suite was beautiful ,food was lovely and fresh,location of village was quiet but close enough to everywhere to make a perfect base for getting out and about. Staff were lovely and couldn't have been anymore helpful.

A brilliant local village pub just outside Harrogate, stone floors and brilliant staff when we were there, I had not been for a few years but it is a firm favourite of my parents and wider family. I went for late Sunday lunch. I love Sunday lunches and have had many around various local eateries from the fat badger to the local pubs. Mostly these are good but can be too fussy or just too much. Here it was perfect, just the right amount of meat and veg. We had starter, main and desert. All of which were delicious. I have also found a pub hat serves proper starters that compliment the Sunday lunch mod. Had chicken liver pate, high cane most unusually with enough bread to match the pate. Trust me this a rare occurence. Every course was perfectly cautioned. My main of roast beef and Yorkshire pudding had pieces of roast beef, which is not huge slabs that was tasty along with Yorkshire pudding with potatoes and support potatoes with a side of veg again all of which was perfectly proportioned, and unable to actually enjoy all your courses, as opposed to being so stuffed after one big main course which some people may like, but I think most people would be for just with the main anyway. I am a gravy themed and I asked for extra gravy and without any discussion and it was on the table extra dog as quick as you can be so therefore I would highly recommend this pub. They stop serving food at 6 o’clock on a Sunday which is a shame as I would definitely take my family there for Sunday tea My only criticism actually it’s not a criticism. It’s more the comment is that for Yorkshire pudding with your main course to be a bit bigger, but that’s because I love Yorkshire puddings also the patty starters could’ve been served with a little bit of lettuce and what would be fantastic as if he added Yorkshire puddings. Lovely country pub, Visited for a family birthday Sunday lunch, WOW, everyone’s plate was clean, there was 6 of us, with different tastes yet everyone agreed its was the best Sunday lunch we’ve eaten out. Booked a a night away to chill, could not fault anything about this little amazing place. We enjoyed all the food it was outstanding we had afternoon sandwich few drinks, the evening meal was so tasty we had lamb followed by dillicious berry crumble. We had breakfast the next morning there was plenty of choice as well as been given the choice of having breakfast a little later or earlier the staff go above and beyond. The accommodation was exceptional and had everything you need it was very relaxing and quiet the bed was so comfy :)

Absolutely fantastic and tasty food. We had the Shoulder of Mutton, which is really lamb, again. It is SO good. Great service too very friendly. Really cosy atmosphere as well, we had a table next to a great fireplace.

Booked on a one-off to celebrate a promotion with my husband and 6 year old, so glad we did. Amazing food, really well made and fresh - the lamb was the best I have had in any restaurant. Good kids menu, as well as the option to have small portions of the usual mains, which we thought was an excellent touch. Warm, friendly atmosphere and very relaxed, we will definitely be back

Stayed for two nights in this great facility in the Ribblesdale accommodation - great place for food and drink and the staff are fantastic - very friendly and accommodating. Will most definitely be returning as great location for visiting Harrogate and surrounding area.

We came here for Sunday lunch, we all had the braised shoulder of lamb, and it was fantastic. Definitely one of the best Sunday lunches we have had in a long time, apart from the ones my wife makes of course. it tasted great.
