The Shore Grill & Fish House in Fife

Visit here frequently, especially whilst out walking at the weekend. The views over the Forth make it a lovely place to enjoy a relaxing meal. The food is always delicious whether stopping for a quick light lunch or a more leisurely 3 courser. The staff are always friendly and service efficient. The reason for only the 4 stars is for being turned away from a practically empty restaurant. For some reason, they don't always allow walk-ins, only taking people with reservations (totally understandable) or hotel guests (not so understandable - not sure why a definite paying customer would be turned away on the chance a hotel guest might turn up). This is especially irksome as having eaten here frequently, I've never seen this place even near to full. Luckily for us, when we're out walking, there are other places nearby to eat, but the moral of the story is if you definitely want to eat here, make sure you book.

The service was terrible, we arrived an hour early not expecting to be served but as they weren’t busy we were shown to our table. We had a voucher for afternoon tea with fizz and asked if we could upgrade and have a meal, paying the difference but no the afternoon tea was already made up. The table was sticky and not very clean. Our afternoon tea was served with a pot of tea but no fizz! We asked the waiter where our fizz was and again showed him the voucher, he went of and came back with one glass of fizz, we waited but he didn’t return so we asked the waitress and showed her the voucher she then came back with the missing fizz. No apologies or acknowledgments. The whole experience was really disappointing so much so we would not recommend it and we would not go back there. No atmosphere and the wonderful view was barely visible as the windows needed a good clean.

The Shore is in the Doubletree in North Queensferry. The dinner entrees are quite good and reasonably priced. Service can be a little lax when the restaurant is near full. They also do a breakfast buffet that’s very nice for hotel guests.

What a lovely place. Amazing view of the bridge, nice atmosphere and the food was sensational! Top that off with friendly staff and you’ve a winning combination!

We all had an excellent lunch experience in this restaurant yesterday. The views were great, the staff were courteous and helpful, the food was excellent and the ambience was so good we sat for 4 hours catching up! Only criticism is there doesn't seem to be a gluten free menu - having said that the waitress got together with the chef and came up with a satisfactory solution to this! I suggest the restaurant considers a gluten free menu for the future...after all, this is now a frequent requirement of diners! We will definitely return should this be rectified.

I stayed in the DoubleTree on a business trip and saw the reviews for The Shore were good. My colleagues were also keen to eat seafood so this seemed like the perfect place. The food is good and the view from the restaurant is stunning. The ambience feels luxurious. I would ask that they re-think calling it a 'Fish House' though, as there are only a couple of fish/seafood items on the menu.

Had a lovely meal, great staff & lovely views, meal was excellent , this was our first time in there & will definitely be back.

Booked Afternoon Tea as an early Mothers Day treat for my mum, arrived and after a few minutes wait was shown to table. Beautiful views overlooking the bridges. I had advised of allergies on my booking which was checked when taking our order (a definite plus). Afternoon Tea arrived which was lovely - however this was the last we saw of our server - no-one came back to check everything was ok or to offer anything further…..Tried to no avail to get someone’s attention to order more tea, ended up going to cash desk to ask for bill myself and leave. Good views and nice food, shame about the service!

Booked a table for 6pm on a Friday. Not overly busy. Staff members were decent, starters and main arrived promptly. Food was spot on. Mussels, haggis and black pudding sausages roll for starters. Well presented and very tasty. Duck breast, burger and side of Mac and cheese for main. Again, very well presented and very tasty. Unfortunately after this, I think the waiters forgot about us. It did get slightly busier, but by this time we had had 3 separate couples sat at the table to our right! We wanted more drinks and desserts. I had to ask the manager if they were going to clear away our main course plates after having them there for roughly half an hour. The attitude of his answer was not great and said he would get the waiter to clear. Another half hour passed before we got dessert. A real shame about the second half of our experience. If the staff were as attentive as when we first arrived, this could have been a 5 star review. All in, we were seated for 2 hours and 20 minutes for a 3 course meal and a few drinks. Don't think we'll bother going back. A real shame.

One of the best food experiences in Edinburgh and excellent value for money. Customer service is professional, friendly and very efficient. The food is excellent value for money. The views are outstanding.

We were staying for one night at the Hilton so decided to book in for dinner here. I'd always passed by this restaurant crossing the bridges and wondered what the views would be like from inside. Well worth it for those alone as it turns out! The staff were extremely helpful and friendly and the whole place has a very nice and relaxed atmosphere. We ordered cocktails which were great and they offered a good selection. We opted for two courses, mains and desserts. I can say that the food was of a great standard and very tasty. Overall I left very impressed and would definitely recommend a visit for anyone looking for a nice place to eat in or near to North Queensferry.

Dined in the restaurant Friday 12 January as part of a weekend stay at the hotel. Seated quickly by maitre de. Given menus and asked if we wanted water for the table which never came. Our server Michael was super friendly and efficient. I’m unsure if they were short staffed but he seemed to be doing everything from taking orders to bringing food to the table as well as clearing dishes away and coming to the table with our bill. Top marks to him for all his hard work. Food was good although the onion rings, despite being tasty were over cooked. We also appreciated the complimentary glasses of Prosecco.

Have just eaten here tonight Bang, bang cauliflower starter arrived it was cold, replacement was provided but it was not much hotter Main of Monkfish ciabatta, I would question whether it was monkfish, it was uninspiring and very average. I ordered chunky chips but came with skinny fries. Could not be bothered saying anything, I just ate them.

Have eaten at The Shore Grill regularly for a few years now and have never been disappointed with the food or presentation. The addition of a lunch menu is welcome and the changes made to the main menu from time to time appreciated too. On our last visit the service was poor, individually the staff were friendly however we had to ask someone to take our order, ask again for the desert menu and clear the plates. The restaurant was not overly busy and there were plenty staff just not attentive enough to the diners. This is not the first time we have had a problem with service.

This is the first I’ve been however will definitely be back. We popped in spur of the moment and would highly recommend. Food was great and service was even better. Michael in particular went out of his way to help, nothing was too much trouble.

Normally have fish and chips here but opted for Salmon which was served on a bed of veg - very healthy and very tasty…recommend getting here early if you haven’t got a reservation!

Although we were here on business, one of us had our birthday, so we decided to have dinner at the hotel restaurant. Louise was our waitress she was very friendly and efficient. The views were spectacular looking out to the iconic Forth Bridges. One complimentary glass of wine was given to the birthday boy. We had prawn cocktails which were fairly substantial. My one criticism of this is that we think bread and butter should be included with the prawn cocktail as that is how it’s traditionally served. One of our party had smoked salmon and the portion was huge. For main courses we all had Fish and chips which were really big. The chips were great. For dessert, you have a choice of a smaller desert for £4 or a traditional size for about £7.95. I liked having that choice as the smaller dessert is still quite big. Overall it was a lovely evening and thanks again to our server Louise.

Fish N Chips were phenomenally great! Desserts of cheesecake were wow! So elegant and beautifully served with a crusted baked sugar-glazed ornament. Drinks were amazing too! Adam and Kace were both perfect emissaries for the restaurant!
