Beyond amazing service from the owner and her staff, beer was cold, dinner delicious and desert fantastic. Come by, you won’t regret it.

Really nice "pub type" Sunday roast. We asked for the meat to be rare, and this (more or less) is how it arrived. Good selection of "ordinary" vegetables, decent roast potatoes etc etc. Nice atmosphere in an old fashioned country pub. Very friendly/helpful staff (I'm hard of hearing, and they went out of their way to find us a quiet table). Sensible prices.

Sadly not a place we would return to. Firstly to say the staff were super friendly and welcoming. Of a table of 8 only 4 enjoyed their meals. A burger in particular was very unpleasant and tasted of freezer burn and factory processed. Advice on allergy menu didn’t match what we were told in person. Eg no May Contain on any steak sauce but told in person to avoid as May Contain, not very reassuring. I think some refresher training wouldn’t go amiss as there was also a fixation on airborne allergies over anything else to do with allergy awareness. This pub is brilliant 🤩 from the decor to the staff and food. Everything just sings. Staff are super friendly and attentive but not in a hovering by your table way. The food was delicious, I hear they are changing the menu soon I can’t wait to go back

Again, an amazing roast dinner. Staff so attentive and friendly. We all had the roast beef with cauliflower cheese and pigs in blankets and thoroughly enjoyed it. Service excellent yet again and we felt no rushing to finish courses.

We just had the best Sunday Roast at The Ship and would highly recommend. The sharing board as well as the veggie roast really was exceptional and the fish and chips dinner was excellent too. We were here to celebrate a 50th birthday with 3 generations of 1 family (15 in total) present and we all were very happy. The staff (including Djamel and another who’s name unfortunately I didn’t get) were very attentive and accommodating and brought out the cake to a great chorus of Happy Birthday, helping to make the occasion special. Thanks! Will definitely be coming back soon!

We had dinner and had a great table very cosy. We ordered the steak and ale pie and prawn curry. We had shared starters of squid which was good. Our mains were the steak and ale pie which was nice but the pastry was hard, it was accompanied with vegetables. My husband didn’t really enjoy the curry as it was very bland.

We were in the area so thought we'd try the lunch menu. We both had the fish and chips and asked for crispy chips. Perfect meal, crispy batter on fish, not too much batter, chips really crispy, staff attentive and personable. Would definitely eat there again.

Just had an excellent Sunday Roast at The Ship in Stock. Warm and friendly welcome on a cold January Sunday, fire burning and cosy atmosphere. I had the roast beef, served pink and perfect, my son had the short rib and husband had the chicken. All agreed the roast potatoes (rosemary salted) were excellent, always a testing point… Served with Yorkshire pudding, buttered cabbage and leeks and we had pigs in blankets, cauliflower cheese and honey roast parsnips on the side. Bonus points for there being plenty of very good gravy. Generous portions and delicious flavours, so much so we couldn’t fit in desert, good thing we’d already decided to return! Can highly recommend.

Our first time at this wonderful cosy pub did not disappoint. Sunday lunch was the best we had ever had. Excellent home cooked food and plenty of it. So good. The experienced staff were all very friendly, attentive and professional. The ambient atmosphere of this 14th Century Inn with a real ale and a log-burner hits the mark and we will be back! The perfect Sunday lunch.

Lovely warm welcome nice atmosphere in the pub. Drinks order taken quickly followed by the food order. Food was great, we all had different mains and were all delicious clean plates all round. The same for dessert four different orders and all very tasty.

We went to the Ship today for the first time as a couple with our 3 year old. The staffs attentiveness, hospitality and general warmth was so lovely. We feel like they really went the extra mile and that’s not because it was our first time as they thought we’d been before. A great pub with a good choice of different food. They didn’t have everything on the menu and this was explained to us straight away as they’re in the middle of changing the menu. A lovely Sunday roast and we’ll definitely be returning. Lovely to find a decent roast dinner with a country atmosphere.

This was my wife and I's first visit to the Ship and we were certainly not disappointed. The Prawn starter was amazing with huge prawns and the main, Sunday lunch, meals were enormous and very tasty. I had the beef and my wife had the chicken and both meals were cooked beautifully. Staff were so friendly and very attentive which made the whole experience even better. We will definitely be coming here again. Well done Andy and the crew !

Out for an afternoon drive and looking for nice bit of lunch when we found this fantastic Pub. Been past so many times but never stopped here. Very friendly bar staff and such fantastic food. We both had the mushroom pie from the specials board and was a definate 10 out of 10 for presentation and quality of the food. Superb pudding aswell. We will definately be back soon and keen to try the Sunday roast.

Popp d in the ship off the cuff with the kids. It’s a proper county pub atmosphere. We have a few drinks and food, food was lovely but would say tad over priced for some dishes. But I guess I don’t mind that if the food and service is good. The lady who served us was extremely pleasant and helpful, nothing was much trouble . Good old friendly costumer service Would recommend it and we will be returning back.

We decided to try the Ship Inn with friends for dinner, the web site looks impressive, but alas the food was not. A number of the dishes where not available, and what we did order was overcooked, tasteless and not very fresh, we should of realised that something was wrong as it was a Saturday night and only one other table was occupied in the restraint. We had our Christmas lunch for 19 people as a club at the Ship Inn, Stock Rd, Chelmsford, and, although they were short staffed at the time, our meal was served efficiently and tasted delicious. They went out of their way to welcome us and tended to our needs. I recommend it for a meal at any time.The setting is oak beamed and our club had the mezzanine floor to ourselves, which was nice.

I booked The Ship Inn as a lunch stop for my Ramblers club as I was leading a walk around the area. I had contacted Maria previously and explained the possible numbers and the fact I would telephone mid walk to pass the food orders over the phone. This was done with ease at the time suggested (our elevenses coffee stop on the walk) and not even the fact there would be 24 of us seemed to concern Maria. On arrival at the pub, we were led through to an area with tables set up nicely and Xmas crackers on the tables for our lunch - this was a lovely touch and a nice surprise. All the food that was served was of good quality and plenty of it too, with a very helpful Maria and her staff on hand for any queries. All of our group commented how nice the food and setting was.I am sure we shall return!

We have been eating out at the Ship for some now and it never fails to impress us . Very good food with a friendly service. Unfortunately I think they have replaced the chef!As what we were served up was just a plate of grease. The squid was totally under cooked and the beer battered haddock was virtually empty of fish. I do feel guilty as I haven't given a positive review previously. Maybe it's under new management as we didn't recognise any staff.

Quite surprised to see a couple of bad reviews posted recently for this place. We have been going to the Ship for 18 months or so & we just love it there. Not only is the food really lovely but also has a great atmosphere run by really lovely people. We’ve had some great meals here. To name a few - the T-Bone steak, lobster Thermidor but recently we tried the seafood platter - the prawns were delicious & we love their Oysters! I hate to see a really nice place slandered on social media. Please don’t be put off. You will be missing out if you don’t visit this place.

Celebration that was really spoiled because the whole evening rapidly turned into a farce.It started off on arrival when they ran out of Guinness and Ghost Ship. Not a good start for a pub . When we ordered food were then told that they had run out of all seafood and fish.When we asked for wine from their menu this too was limited due to unavailability. Not good for a pub , no popular beer or wine of choice.The choice left on the restricted food menu was so limited we asked for one special dish of plain cooked chicken for one of our party . This arrived but unfortunately was tainted by curry . Note the only chicken dish on the menu was tandoori so I assume our plain chicken was from the same batch.The food when it arrived was basic ie the barbecue sauce for chicken wings arrived in small paper cup. The food we had was edible but not restaurant quality, add to that a sadly lacking menu and a constant “ oh we haven’t got that” made the evening a total disaster.

We were offered a round of drinks free.as food did not arrive until 7:55 Fish and chips turned out to be mostly batter and fresh fries. An adjoining table asked for cheese on the dessert menu-guess what?- How can cheese be OFF!!!!!

2 Oct. Table booked at 6pm for 4 people. Took until 6.45 for our order to be taken, whereupon we were told the steak asked for by 2 of us was not available and only one chicken tandoori was left so we plumped for cod and chips. That took another hour to arrive. The waitress apologised and said the chef was a trainee! She said we could have a round of drinks on the house to compensate. The fish was mainly batter and sloppy inside because it wasn't properly cooked. On a Saturday evening - any time really - a chef should be competent enough to provide good edible food.A couple beside us left because what they wanted was not available. A couple on the other side asked for cheese and were told there wasn't any! A pity as we'd had a meal there about a year ago and were very impressed. No longer!!! And we won't be returning.

Had the most wonderful experience at this venue. Food was fantastic staff really friendly. Let us use the whole back garden for a joint 5 way boys bday. All their school friends and parents joined. Lovely atmosphere. Great team was the perfect day. Can't thank them enough. Adults stayed and had food. Lamb cutlets were amazing.

Recently we celebrated our sons christening party at The Ship. It was fantastic!! We had the whole area out the back to ourselves for 60 people but we definitely had room for more if we wanted. The newly renovated garden area has loads of seats and a bar out the back, and plenty of place for children to play.The food was outstanding especially the tempura fish! The jugs of pimms were very popular!! Maria (owners mother) designed our cake which was eaten in record time and her daughter designed a great balloon arch in the colours we had requested. Maria and Helen were fantastic hosts and without a shadow of a doubt we will be returning for any future family events!! The Ship really know how to make a day feel special! Thank you very much it is really appreciated!

We’ve been coming to the Ship, on and off, for 15 years. We’d heard recently that it had changed hands and thought we’d try it again. We are so pleased that we didAll of the staff there, barring none, are so very friendly and welcoming, that one feels like one of the family. The level of service is unfussy but so efficient, something that is really lacking in other local establishments.The food is sublime. Booked for lunch ( 30/08/2021 ) arrived 2.20 pm explained I had booked table for lunch ...An old lady who used to own the place checked and then took hold of two menu's walked to a table by a piano , placed the menu's on table and left !!!! did not ask if we wanted drinks , did not say someone will be with you soon !!!! Nothing !!!!! could not believe that not one of the staff seemed to notice us for nearly half an hour. How people can pay for this kind of service is beyond me !!!!! you don't treat customers in this way. We got up and left the old Lady saw us going and did not even say a word ......disgusting treatment

Popped in/called on the off chance fancying a Sunday roast... They did not dissapoint, from calling to book, very polite friendly lady to then the service from the staff... Even noticed lady was running about so was wearing trainers... Barmaid was also a laugh and made us feel very welcome, service was great from food to drinks, meal good too... Excellent service and delicious food. We shared salt & pepper squid and halloumi fries for starters. He had chicken burger with extra red onion and I had lobster Thermidor. Very tasty and piping hot. Wow what a surprise , booked for Sunday lunch with the thoughts of having one of the “usual “ starters you find on a Sunday , only to find that Foie Gras was on the menu ! Having not had the opportunity dine out in London for 18 months this French delicacy was a sight for tired taste buds ! As you will see from my photo the presentation was more aligned to a 5* restaurant. As a nice touch it is served with a glass of Sauternes. Alll our food was excellent and service was very attentive and professional and we cannot wait to return.

Popped in last week for lunch with my husband , he drives past this pub most days while working and thought it looked good , so we gave it a try ! We were not disappointed, we were greeted by a lovely friendly lady who showed us to our seat and because I couldn’t decide on which wine to have let me try two to choose from , nice touch ! I went for the homemade mackerel pate and my husband had the prawns , both of which were delicious and the presentation showed that care had been taken , we were impressed. Mains I had seabass ! Absolutely delicious the samphire was fresh as a daisy and the bass cooked to perfection, so many times I’m disappointed with fish because it is always over cooked , ,but not here . My husband had the pork Wellington , which we thought sounded a bit different, that was also delicious! We ended with a sticky toffee pudding and a lemon posset which is one of my favourites, the pudding had plenty of thick homemade sauce which is a must ! And the posset was light and creamy with just the right amount of tart lemon , we were delighted, and will definitely be back .

Visited here on a bank holiday Monday. Pub is nice inside and plenty of outdoor seating. Ordered the plant based burger and then was told it was off the menu. Instead went for fish & chips and was very tasty. My partner opted to have the burger and swapped the chips on her plate to a salad. When the final bill came the salad was charged as extra! Service very robotic and no check back. For the price the bill came to I will not be rushing back. Although atmosphere inside of pub is welcoming staff not so much.

Came into the ship after work for lunch and can honestly say as a man that loves his food I had some of the best fish and chips I’ve ever had with a side of halloumi fries! The fish was cooked perfectly the batter was crisp and crunchy and the fish was soft and well cooked absolutely spot on! There’s nothing worse than soggy batter and you certainly don’t get that here it was spot on! The halloumi fries were amazing as well, sometimes I find when I eat out that they’re overly done or greasy these were exactly how you want them I could’ve eaten a bucket load! To top it off the service was fantastic in fact I would go as far to say impeccable, it was quick, efficient and the staff couldn’t have been more helpful and friendly! The bar manager Harriet I believe her name was couldn’t have done more for me exquisite service! I get a proper family and homely vibe from this establishment, they couldn’t be more welcoming and outgoing! This pub/restaurant is an absolute hidden gem for anyone that wants to come out for a nice meal or for a few chilled drinks with friends and family! I couldn’t recommend it more highly! 10/10! My complements to the chef, this hard to please foodie has been well and truly satisfied! I will be returning in the not too distant future eager for more!

We went to the Ship on Thursday 17/06/2021 and it's taken a couple of days to work out why we enjoyed it so much, the food was really good you have to try the vegan burger! the staff and landlady were fantastic but we settled on the ambiance as a leading factor, you are greeted with smiles treated like friends and the place just feels right, so in summary, if you are looking for a really chilled out place to eat, drink or both that serves great food, a wide range of drinks and has really good staff head to the ship, we are going back today, Sunday for a Jam session (and another burger)

Since the pub has recently been taken over an now is family run the service is amazing the family are all so Friendly and the food is spot on had a banging fish and chips aswell as for afters a home made Banoffee pie will be back again for sure!

We found this charming pub by chance after visiting Frinton on sea and stopping for one of the kids to use the Loo! Staff were super friendly and chatty, place was very clean and struck me as a perfect local. Food was lovely the burger was gigantic and destroyed my hungry 11 year old! The Cod and chips were also huge and excellent, the batter was perfect. After a very long drive and day at the beach we were so glad we stopped by. The ice cold shandy on the hottest day of the year went down a treat. Worth a visit thanks guys

We came in yesterday and what can we say but compliments to the chef! The lobster Thermidor was the best I’ve ever tasted , the steaks perfectly cooked and high quality the banoffie pie was to die for. Had a great roast beef lunch with friends. The food and the service was very good and the whole meal was relaxing and unhurried.If ordering beef specify how you like it. There is ample car parking and the place is very COVID aware

Awful! Just awful. Food was poor, at best, and the service was even worse. One member of staff didn’t have a mask on the whole time we were there and told us she shouldn’t be there as she felt ill. In these Covid times, it was extremely unsettling. I would never recommend this place. If I could give it zero as a rating I would!!

Four of us went midweek on a chilly wet day. We had lunch in the marquee behind the pub which was lovely and warm. The food is excellent, the mussels to start were delicious as was my rib eye steak. There is also a decent wine list priced fairly. We had a lovely time. Many thanks to all.

I cannot fault this lovely pub and their fantastic staff for helping me and my husband (!) start our married life together with the ones we love the most. Let me start from the beginning...Two years ago, my partner and I booked our wedding at Crondon Park Glof Club in Stock (a mere 2-minute drive from The Ship Inn) for 24/10/2020. Fast-forward through all the well-known COVID drama and restrictions, we were still adamant that we wanted to keep our date and get married, come hell or high water.When the restrictions went down to 15 people (and I had a breakdown in the process), I contacted the pub to see what they could offer us in terms of celebrating becoming hisband and wife. I was well aware that pub/restaurant restrictions would apply, and was more than happy to comply with their rules. I wasn't feeling particularly hopeful as I can appreciate that hosting 15-20 people (even socially-distanced) can come with its risks.Jasmine however was so understanding and helpful, even answering my MANY emails asking a million and one questions about everything. We were given the option of having a marquee outside with tables and chairs with dedicated staff to tend to our guests.Come on the day, it was (of course) freezing cold and windy and I started to get really anxious about all my guests catching pneumonia sitting outside. The guests were all at the pub before the groom an I, and arrived to find that all my guests were put in the 'upstairs' part of the pub to keep all snuggly warm and together. We had this area exclusively for our party, and was such a lovely touch to the day.We benefited from their wonderful service, as well as delicious food (we had a plated buffet service come round to each table), and everyone had a truly amazing time.Thank you so much Ship Inn, you better believe we'll be coming back soon!

After reading reviews had booked for dinner and was very excited. I must say our food was delicious. However our night was completely ruined by another group of customers who seemed to be allowed to act however they wanted. Complete disregard for any covid measures, didnt wear masks, groups of more than six at a table, shouting and screaming all night. Unfortunately made for quite an unpleasant experience

Went to The Ship Inn last night for a meal with a friend. This pub has recently been taken over and they have done a great job in turning it around. COVID measures in place and staff all wear masks. Staff are attentive, with a special mention to Joe, Helen, Olivia and Carole, all of whom have served us over the past few weeks. Was a great Atmosphere yesterday with singers Sam and Elle who had great voices and also work there I believe.Food has always been really gd on every occasion we have been, baked Camembert is a must. Well done team keep up the gd work

Had lunch here on Friday and I have to say, possibly the best Shepherds Pie I’ve ever had! The Owner and her family and staff couldn’t have been more accommodating and friendly.... highly recommend and will be going back very soon!
