... in a quintessential country pub. Tastefully renovated and located in an idyllic Devon country village. Definitely ticks this box but there much more. Traditional Sunday lunch menu with other options if the 'roast' isn't your first choice. Locally sourced ingredients, well prepared & presented. Good selection of local ales and welcoming local staff. Yes, ticks all the boxes! Recommended and looking forward to a return visit.

The Ship Inn has a very warm and inviting atmosphere. For a change I had the dover sole. It was cooked perfectly in a lovely butter sauce, served with delicious new potatoes. It really was luxury on a plate.

Well, I can certainly recommend The Ship for the lovely meals and great service. We were a group of 5, and all thoroughly enjoyed our meals. Great service and friendly staff as always, as we had been visiting The Ship for over 20 years prior to moving away from the area in 2011, but we decided to pay a visit once again recently. The same owners are still running the restaurant and clearly the standards remain excellent. Lovely choice of dishes on the menu, and the meals were delicious as they were previously. We will make more frequent visits from now on, as the 45min drive it takes us is very much worth it!

Planned to stop here on our way home from camping and we were blown away by the friendly staff & outstanding food. We will definitely be visiting again when we’re back in the area and would whole heartedly recommend a diversion to visit this fantastic pub restaurant.

15 of us called in for lunch as part of a U3A cycling group, having booked in advance. The ambience was lovely, there was good menu, and the service was quick and faultless. Jan was friendly and cheerful to deal with both on the phone and on the day. I would recommend this pub whole heartedly.

Nice atmosphere, warm and clean. Starters very nice. Mains all excellent however the Baileys cheesecake was the smallest slice imaginable and definitely not worth the price. Pity, I'd been looking forward to a sweet and this spoiled the meal for me.

The Ship never fails to disappoint in the 30 years we have been coming here. 7 of us for a Sunday lunch. Excellent service with friendly staff. Very busy with a great atmosphere. The beef was so tender it just melted in your mouth. The accompanying vegetables were generous portions and the desserts were to die for! We'll be back!

Absolutely great food. Veggie choices were original and top quality. The others thought their meat choices were really good too. Marked down by somewhat slow service but it was worth the wait!

Today my husband and I had lunch at the Ship Inn. Friendly welcome, excellent service and delicious food. We both had liver parfait to start, really tasty with Melba toast. Hubby then had Belly Pork with crackling and I had Sole with a tasty sauce. Both were perfectly cooked. We were both full but decided we needed to try a dessert, so we shared a warm chocolate brownie with ice cream with was yummy. We will definitely be back.

Booked in here for dinner with a few friends. Lovely atmosphere and friendly staff. The food was top quality. Of note the duck was excellent as was the ox cheek suet pudding. I will definitely be coming here again.

We were greeted very warmly and offered a table in the quirky interior. The menu has some interesting dishes and the classics too. We both ate the belly pork with mustard mash. The mash was delicately flavoured, not overpowering. Generous portion of pork. Beautiful sauces. I had been going to order the side of cheesy sourdough but I wouldn't have had room! And the Jail ale was excellent. Not to be missed if you are near Ugborough.

Despite living about 2 miles away, we'd never actually been to the Ship Inn even though we'd been recommended it several times. So when family came to visit us, we took the opportunity and went. It's a lovely setting, in the village square, with a nice church opposite. We were spoilt for choice with the menu. My brother-in-law and mother-in-law both saying they could eat everything on the menu and were having a hard time picking. To cut a long story short, they both commented that the food was the "best they had EVER eaten anywhere" and that's quite high praise from a 60yo and a 85yo who have eaten at their fair share of places in their lifetime. Suffice to say, we'll be back. Update: We went back today, 13th August 2023, for sunday lunch and my wife commented that the menu was excellent and that the beef was absolutely perfect. The portion sizes are generous too. I can see us being very regular here!

The staff here are really lovely every time we come and the atmosphere is relaxed but not at the expense of excellent service. Food is wholesome. Very high quality pub grub, if lookingvfud more than that head to one of the lovely local restaurants. As far as local pubs go - the ship is our favourite. We head to Rye as a weekend escape from London and can easily loose an afternoon in here!

Had been twice before and had good food both times. This visit however was a shame that it was most disappointing. <br />We had come for the Rye Scallops Festival.<br />Waitress could have been better trained. Before we ordered our drinks, we clarified whether it was A&amp;W Root Beer and was told they had what the menu said. We only ordered the Root Beer because it was A&amp;W and was so excited as its a rare find but when it came, it wasn&#039;t but we were charged for 2 as opposed to the 4 we ordered which was a nice gesture.<br />We ordered one of every starter on the Scallops menu. Hadn&#039;t realised the starter was just 1 scallop on its own. Waitress should have pointed it out since we had said we were sharing starters. It was an extremely long wait between starters and mains to the point, we had enough and was ready to go elsewhere. Luckily the kids had their food with our starters but again a long wait for their ice creams which came after we&#039;ve almost finished our mains! <br />Salad leaves weren&#039;t clean properly and had leaves that had gone bad in it.<br />Overpriced and although the scallops itself were fresh and cooked well, we didn&#039;t enjoy the food at all.

Loved the venue - open fire, lively place. Starter of Chicken liver pate and toast pefectly good. Main was the vegetarian option of stuffed mushrooms. It was almost tasteless, no seasoning. My partner had a lamb burger - the burger itself was very small, and the bun was dry. Would recommend the pub for drinks, but not food.
