This is a great Pub, lovely food and excellent staff. The Asian pork belly is delicious and they serve up a fantastic Sunday roast There's a decent selection of beers, including a locally brewed bitter. They do have rooms available if you're staying locally and if driving the car park access is at the rear entrance next door to Oundle veterinarians.

We were looking for the Travelodge/ Premier Inn for an overnight stay, but all was booked out. So we were passing through Oundle, in Northamptonshire, and came across The Ship Inn in the town. We went through Booking.com, and it was reasonably priced. We had a lovely meal and a good night's sleep. Having driven for quite a few miles. There was plenty of parking; as we had a vehicle and trailer.

2.5/5. We just moved to Oundle and first came here about 2 months after having our first viewing for what became our current house. Beautiful setting, beautiful pub, freehouse (important!) and some great beers - including Krombacher. Since completing our move though, they seem to have got rid of a few of their beers (inc. the Krombacher, which I rarely see in pubs) and replaced them with the most generic, samey c**p beers you can literally get anywhere - San Miguel, Carslberg, Moretti, Cruzcampo, Madri, etc. The whole point of a free house is that they can stock what they want. Instead, the overwhelming majority of beers on tap is just the usual mass-produced swill, all brewed in the same facility here in the UK whilst pretending to be unique and imported. It’s a real shame that they’ve decided to go down this route. I also feel that prices have gone up. Food is decent, but it’s lost its uniqueness I think and lost a bit of what made it the best pub in town. If the owners or current/new landlords read this - please stop stocking the same awful swill that every other pub including Wetherspoons is stocking.

Went to The Ship Inn on two consecutive nights for tea because it was so tasty. The first night we had burgers and the second night I had fish & chips and my husband had the pie. The pie and accompaniments were the best we'd had during our visit to the UK. It included a range of vegetables and the pie itself was delicious. A bit pricey but worth it. Service was also very good. Felt welcomed. Went to another pub initially and not being local, felt like we were not welcomed by the patrons. Stayed at The Ship Inn for one night and the room had all we needed but it was a bit noisy as it seemed a party was being held in the courtyard.

I popped in for a pint with a friend and our two puppies this afternoon. Asked where we could sit with the dogs and was told anywhere. Was even brought a bowl of water for the dogs from the friendly younger chap! (Thank you) we sat there for an hour or so, the dogs being babies did make a few noises but nothing that distracted anyone else after this we then popped to the loo before leaving, taking it in turns to hold the dogs. My dog let out a whimper on seeing me leave him as you would expect from a young dog! A single howl. To which the older grey haired bartender shouted ‘keep your dogs quiet’ one whimper! Really?! After an hour of good behaviour from 10/11 months old pups! So my review is also a question - why do you call yourselves dog friendly if you aren’t? Or is it just the older guy who doesn’t like dogs? Jokes on you we were looking for a nice establishment for a group meet where we could have brought 20+ diners to you - but we have since found a much more friendly environment down the road!!

Well, let me tell you about this little gem of a place I discovered during my cycling journey – The Ship Inn in Oundle. I was on the saddle, pushing the pedals hard from Wellingborough to Peterborough, when I decided I deserved a wee bit of a break. I wasn't looking for anything fancy; just a spot to catch my breath and refresh myself. And there it was, The Ship Inn, almost as if it knew a weary traveler was in need. As I stepped in, I must admit, I was a touch self-conscious. There I was, a bit of the road clinging to me in dust and sweat, walking into what could only be described as a posh establishment. But my worries were for naught. The place had this inviting warmth to it, and I'm not just talking about the decor. The fireplace, oh, it was a sight to behold! An actual, crackling fire that seemed to say, "Come on over, sit yourself down, and warm those tired bones." It was exactly what I needed, a lovely fireplace making my break not just accommodating, but downright cozy. Now, I didn't get a chance to sample their food – this time, anyway – as I only indulged in a non-alcoholic beverage. But if the drink was anything to go by, I bet the cuisine is worth a try. The service, you ask? Spot on. Friendly and attentive without being overbearing. They treated me like I was a regular, not batting an eye at my cycling attire or the fact that I looked like I'd just emerged from a dust cloud. Despite the posh airs of the place, not once did I feel out of place. The staff and the patrons alike, they were all about the warm welcomes. I tell you, The Ship Inn is one of those places you stumble upon and immediately know you'll be coming back to – next time, perhaps, for a hearty meal after a long ride. In short, The Ship Inn in Oundle? It's a haven for the travel-weary, a spot where the fire's always burning and the welcome's always warm. I'll be sure to make it a pitstop on my future routes, and who knows, maybe next time I'll be telling you all about their culinary delights. But for now, I'll just tip my cycling cap to them for a well-deserved break on a long day's ride.

Visited Oundle with a friend for a bite to eat at Lunch and decided on the Ship Inn as neither of us had visited before. I opted for the (Vegan) Chilli Con Carne (but with non-vegan cheese) with Nacho's and they were happy to accommodate and my friend ordered a steal and ale pie from the specials board. They had a large range of specials but only soup for vegetarians, so great if you eat meat but not so if you don't. My Chilli Con Carne Nacho's were excellent, maybe too much for lunch time but that's not a critism!! Probably better as a sharing dish with a drink and it would be a perfect amount - unless you're really hungry!!! My friend really enjoyed his pie and it did look good too. Service was polite and professional. We sat outside as the sun was just about out and there is ample bench seating in two areas , so I imagine this is a great place to come in the summer time. There were a few flies buzzing around in doors which was a bit off putting. I'd go back or sure. A really old quaint inn with good service and good food set at a realistic price point.

Although the service in the cafe was slow and the staff forgot to bring me my order, the food was actually very tasty. However, the visit to the toilet was horrendous - the toilet seat in the unisex, accessible toilet had been left up to, to expose the most disgusting orange/brown urine staining (see photo's). I reported this to the store manager, who couldn't have been less interested - despite me showing her the toilet seat, she offered no apology, smiled and stated that it had already been reported and she was already aware of it. I believe she said that it was being addressed next week, so if anyone needs the toilet, you may be better to cross your legs until you can find somewhere more sanitary to use! Very annoyingly, the manager saw fit to speak to somebody on her headset whilst I was talking to her - really disrespectful and patronising. Really not the standard that I expected from Waitrose!

First visit for a while. Will need to go back again. Food really good, good size portions and served piping hot. Very reasonable prices as well.

Really a tale of two experiences, arriving slightly later than our booking, not being local anyone that has to negotiate the Rushden Lakes Christmas rush hour traffic will I’m sure sympathise, we enquired at the bar to say we’d arrived, there was no room at the inn here, so we was told to go to the main door, who knew there was two, to check inn, we asked where that was, and the manageress very kindly got one of the young staff to show us (have you worked at Sainsbury’s, well done) however, the queue was back out of the door which, by the time we eventually checked in, the table had been released (I know, it’s our fault for being late) but the phaff in rebooking the table, I didn’t see 8 people come in and take what would have been our original table, was just too much like hard work, eventually we got sat down but told we had to vacate by 645pm which wasn’t a problem. Next challenge, getting a drink and ordering, the app, which would have solved a problem, didn’t allow for amendments, my grandkids didn’t want cheese on the burgers and with no option to do this, I visited the bar. There was two other clients at the bar, one being served and another waiting, I stood on one side and was told, please don’t stand there, stand over there as I need to know who’s next, which I did but then thought, there’s only 2 of us it can’t be that hard to remember, surely if a queue system is needed, then make a sign, though when I was served someone else stood where I was originally, but wasn’t asked to move as another member of staff appeared, begging the question, what if there was a queue All of this didn’t set a precedent for the meal, however I was proved wrong, the meal was served quickly, correctly, hot and with a smile, well done for this element, the hamburgers were wolfed down as was everyone’s meal. Greene King, please just sort out the front of house and ordering experience (bar staff and app) Ps. Question for any HH management, what’s the importance of the black cup you get when you’re taken to the table and the insistence of getting it back half way through the meal?
