Been here a couple of times, second time for Sunday lunch. Staff are friendly and cater well to customers. The food was incredible, recommend the lamb. Personally prefer a crispy parsnip, and the crispy edges of stuffing, but everything was spot on.

The Woolpack hosted our wedding reception in April 2025, and we cannot recommend the pub as a reception venue enough. We first got in contact with Shannon, Dan and the team around 18 months before our big day and right from the start they were patient, understanding, friendly and made it clear that they would go above and beyond to make our day perfect. One of the main things we loved about The Woolpack as a wedding venue was the freedom we had to pretty much have anything we wanted. We picked exactly what we wanted for the day time menu, we asked for table service during the meal, and we even requested specific drinks for the day, which the team were more than happy to accommodate. Nothing was too much trouble! Across the multiple planning meetings with Shannon, she shared her advice and knowledge of the pub and the wider industry to make sure everything was planned to perfection. Shannon went above and beyond so many times, including talking to the band (who were recommended by the pub) to organise setting up times, putting slices of the wedding cake in our room so we actually got some the next day, checking in with us regarding the bar tab we’d set up, helping with last minute changes and providing a list of local taxi companies. On the day itself, the food was incredible and we received so many compliments about it. Despite needing to serve more than 40 people, Shannon and the team were organised and everyone got their food in a timely manner. The evening food was freshly made, stonebaked pizzas, which again everyone raved about. We also can’t fault the waiting and bar staff on the day. In the evening, there were more than 100 people in attendance, but the staff behind the bar worked extremely hard and nobody had to wait more than a couple of minutes to get served. They were also friendly and smiley and were joining in with the party by dancing along to the band behind the bar. The rooms and breakfast at The Woolpack are also a great addition. The rooms are spacious, modern and clean and the beds are huge and extremely comfortable. Overall, The Woolpack was the perfect reception venue and the team helped to make our day special beyond words. If you’re looking for a chilled wedding reception venue, The Woolpack is the perfect place for you and we can’t recommend it enough.

Stayed on our way to holiday in Shropshire from North Essex and stayed for drinks, evening meal and breakfast in the morning. Fantastic time had, wonderful Roast dinner, comfy and quiet room and a lovely breakfast, not forgetting some very nice drinks before dinner, from a great choice. We stated on Mothers Day night and they managed to accommodate us for dinner, even though I had neglected to book on what was probably their busiest day..!! Staff all very friendly, helpful and accommodating. we will certainly be returning...

Do not accomadate disabled people. Rang up after initially booking the table to state we would need a disability access table as my grandad cannot use steps . They did provide a downstairs table ( was late in preparation) but did not inform us they do not provide disability toilets which when half way through the meal my grandad needed the toilet this of course made a bug probelm, forcing him to go toilet outsode in the car park. When questioned about why they did not , they did particularly seem to bothered to be honest. Really disappointed by this and for this reason i would not come back

I booked for Mother's Day weeks in advance. I had to call again to add a couple more on and asked about accessibility as my dad requires wheelchair access. I was told we were upstairs but they would put us in the bar which was downstairs. Great that was perfect. We were booked for 12 O'clock and told to arrive at 11.45 which we did. On arrival, we were told our table was not ready... we then didn't receive any food till gone 12:30. Main course came fairly quickly after starters but puddings took quite a while. It all seemed a little unorganised. Again we had pre booked, also I did ring in the morning to cancel one due to illness which was brought out. The food was excellent and couldn't fault it. However the service was a different matter. None of the waitresses were very friendly they just all seemed very miserable. Especially after we had made a complaint about the disabled facilities (or lack of). They were very off with us, I actually felt quite uncomfortable to be honest. I had asked if there was a different toilet that my dad could use as he can't go down steps - hence the wheelchair access question when booking. We were told no she said she'd ask the manager to come over . The manager did apologise and said about possibly using one in the rooms outside but again it was a bit of a walk and steps. He said we could go and have a look. So my son went to look the manager didn't take him to show him again don't think he was overly helpful. Just saying sorry despite saying they had wheelchair access and us pointing out its a lawful requirement, he claimed otherwise. This was quite distressing for my dad and did put a dampener on the day. There was no mention of the toilets when I booked the table. If they had, I would not have booked it. I am very surprised and shocked that they have no wheelchair accessible toilets. I understand it's an old building and certain things can't be done but I'm sure you could sort something out to rectify this. My understanding is that under the Equality Act 2010, places offering food and drink should have to have a wheelchair accessible toilets. Despite the underwhelming service from the waitresses and manager, the waiter who brought our bill over was great. Apologetic and understanding, unfortunately I didn't catch his name. The manager offered to take off the price of my dad's main & pudding for the inconvenience (not the point but something) but actually when I got home he'd only taken the main off the pudding was the one I'd cancelled! Overall, the food might be good but for a supposed friendly local pub I was highly disappointed in the experience and service outside of it.

Food has steadily declined over the years to now being extremely poor. Sunday lunch today was appalling. Roast potatoes overdone to the point of no substance inside. Poor veg and rubbery meat. Alas won't be returning. Edit: we're going to give it another go today until we went in and found the price for Sunday roast has gone up from £18.95 to £22. Sorry it's not worth the risk for mediocre food. You just priced yourself out of the market.

We have had several meals in this restaurant and the quality is always consistent. It is reasonably priced and nicely presented. Do bear in mind however that this dinning area is split over 2 floors. The first floor is accessed via a flight of very steep stairs. So if you have difficulty with mobility ensure that you book ahead to guarantee one if the limited ground floor tables. Staff are friendly and very accommodating, especially with dietary needs. Toilets are bright, spacious and well maintained. Well worth a visit.

Had a couple of nights stay here as working nearby. Nice room, good food and good service. Rooms are out the back of the pub, a group of chalets. Room had a nice sized bed, and was comfortable. Had a little issue with hot water one evening but had plenty the next morning. Breakfast was fairly limited when compared to other hotels I've been to, but was well cooked. Restaurant had a decent choice for the evening meal and a fair choice of drinks. Food was good, well cooked and pretty fast out of the kitchen. All in all, was a nice stay. Dad & Son Tuesday beer night visited The Woolpack Inn at Islip for the first time. These are my initial thoughts after one visit. We didn't eat. I say 'beer night' but we came looking for low-alcohol, in my case as the driver. It's a nicely positioned pub on the corner, looking quite welcoming as you drive up and we'll presented. Plenty of parking, though much of it was taken when we arrived, I managed to fit in down near the pub. It's a decent, large dining pub inside, having a restaurant and bar area at first sight. Lots of picnic tables at the front seating outside. They had half a dozen tables outside taken on a warm night. The range of non-alcoholic beers was OK, if not extensive. Service was a bit cursory when we arrived from the young woman serving but otherwise fair enough. The toilets were clean and in good repair. We'll come back another time and I'll aim to pop in and try the food separately but you can check the menus in Google Maps and hopefully on the pub website. I can't comment on the rooms at all. Good visit. We'll add The Woolpack to our regular list.

What a cheek. I paid a £54 50% deposit for a room in cash after having a few drinks here some weeks ago and asking my wife if she wanted a date night stay. Unfortunately due to break ins of cars in the road, mine and my daughters cars had there drivers window smashed I had to cancel 24hrs early . So I rang them and some lady who answered had the cheek to ask for the remainder of the room price as I was not cancelling within 48hrs. Good job I paid in cash. I won't be coming back.... Ever..... and I will make sure I let friends and family know. Unbelievable. Hi Shannon, Thank you for taking the time to respond to my review. I understand that cancellation policies are necessary, and I appreciate your explanation. However, my frustration stemmed from the unexpected nature of the situation I was in, having to deal with car break-ins just 24 hours before my planned stay. It was an unusual and stressful circumstance, and I had hoped for a bit more understanding at that moment. While I now understand that the option to move the booking to a different date may have been possible, it was not clearly communicated during my call. I felt that the response I received lacked empathy given the challenging situation I was facing, which led to my decision to share my experience. I have edited this review on the response I had from Shannon. My initial rating was based on exasperation, rather than facts which I apologise for. I appreciate independent business need revenue like this post Covid but small businesses usually stem from a culture of experience and lessons learnt. Always have these teachings in place from day 1.

Stopped by as we had heard great things about this restaurant. The food was amazing and little pricey for pub grub. But worth it. We walked in and got half served, the barmaid did say hello and asked what we would like but was more interested in carrying on the conversation with the 3-4 regulars at the bar, about Snapchat. She heard one drink went to take money then we both pointed out there were 2 drinks ordered. Asked about food and she advised we could order at 1730. Which was fine. Asked where the restaurant was and was told to sit anywhere, again mixed in with the Snapchat conversation. This is why I say pub grub. It was not till after ordering the food we worked out it must have been upstairs. Such as same as this barmaid customer service does not match the amazing food quality, great chef and menu let down by front of house. When the table next to us asked barmaid why it took so long for the food to arrive she was telling customers everyone was falling out and shouting in the kitchen. Service was so unprofessional. Food perfect.

Just had a perfect Sunday lunch at The Woolpack. Three adult roasts (2 beef, 1 lamb). Two children’s meals (nothing was too much trouble ) - both children requested items which weren’t in the menu! Dairy free 4 year old had a burger in a vegan bun, 5 year old requested pasta in a tomato sauce ( instead of cheese sauce). Both children’s meals were happily provided as requested, and sides were good. The adult roasts were ‘chef’s kiss’ - tender meat, perfectly roasted veg, best cauliflower cheese I have ever tasted.

Darren, Shannon, Darcy, Dan & team, were second to none, and we couldn’t thank them enough for all their amazing support, professionalism, organisation, attention to detail and attentiveness. We had a vision of what we wanted our day to consist of and look like, and they brought it to life and even more than we could ever imagine. Shannon is absolutely incredible and what she does, and everything we had thought of or asked for, she ensured was done above and beyond. She made the whole entire process seem completely seamless and nothing was ever an issue. Shannon ensured our entire day ran incredibly smoothly, from the welcome drinks, sitting everyone down, speeches, gifts, first dance, cake cutting and into the evening entertainment until the very end. The little touches meant the most, ensuring when we arrived that we had a few drinks ready and put at our table for us, leaving wedding cake in our room so we could enjoy it at the end of the evening, all the little pieces to put on the table places, or additional bits we added ourselves, she took on herself to arrange and sort, so we didn’t have too on the day. We stayed in the onsite rooms for 2 nights, and I was very impressed with the size, cleanliness, facilities, presentation, the bed was very comfortable and had I had a great nights sleep. Also, great value for money. Would highly recommend staying here and would stay again. The venue itself was perfect for our day, we had the entire top floor restaurant and patio area. The restaurant itself has recently been decorated too, along with the patio area, which now has festival style lighting. The venue was perfect sized for our wedding, which was 80 day guests and 150 evening guests. The tables were changed so slightly bigger for the event, along with supplying table clothes, napkins ect. The facilities were faultless. On the day of the wedding, myself and the bridal party got ready in the stables, which is a fantastic space, large stone, light room, which was great for getting ready in, we enjoyed breakfast platters whilst getting ready, which was a perfect start to our day. We had a range of welcome drinks, 3 course meal, and a hog roast in the evening. The amount of compliments we received from our wedding guests was incredible, everyone was so impressed with the food quality, portion size and taste, and lots of guests saying it was the BEST wedding food they’d ever had, and we couldn’t agree more! Being local, we already knew the food was insane, but was lovely to enjoy it on our wedding day. The hog roast was one of the best I’ve had in a very long time! All the staff are absolutely incredible, from the managers, chefs, bar staff, waiters/waitresses, housekeeping, they were all so friendly, kind and attentive, and we couldn’t thank you guys enough for making our day perfect, no words will be enough! Overall, for overnight stays, fab pub grub or events, The Woolpack Inn couldn’t be recommended highly enough. Thank you again! Mr & Mrs Logan x

The young lady behind the bar serving drinks was totally disinterested and unsmiling. She did not say thank you once during purchases or payments.

This was a family meet up. We booked in advance and as there were 9 of us we had to pre order our food, not a problem and all that was served was good. This was a Saturday and there was plenty of seating. A lovely pub.

A Green King in the small country town of Thrapston, poor service with barmaid holding a conversation with somebody else and not paying attention to the customer. Prices dearer than I generally pay in London. Will we go again.... definitely not. If you want a good pub go to the Kings Arms a bit further in town.

It was my first booking for a Sunday lunch. The menu is absolutely fine as you would expect.Even though the food was delicious,I would say the portion sizes were a little small considering the price. Its a shame as I'm in Thrapston and wanted to support local business

We had a lovely stay, the room was fine ,clean and functional. The food was excellent, at the prices you wouldn't expect anything less. The Inn and restaurants best assets are the staff, professional, friendly attentive.

We recently visited Lago Lounge at Rushden Lakes and had another fantastic experience. I went for the cheese & bacon smash burger (photo attached) – it was absolutely delicious! Juicy, full of flavour, and cooked perfectly. The seasoned fries were a real highlight too – crispy, golden, and packed with flavour. My partner chose the Lounge Eggs – poached eggs served with spinach and hollandaise sauce – and was equally impressed, saying they were really good. We’ve dined here and at several of the other Lounge venues before, and they never disappoint. The quality is always top-notch, and the relaxed, friendly atmosphere makes it a great spot every time.

Awful service! From the minute walking in the person who seated us had attitude, asked if we could sit outside her response was “no, as you can see we only have one server” said with such a tone we felt to leave at that point. Were offered sauce with our meal which never arrived, took so long to get a drink that we had to cancel them. Then they have the cheek to charge a service fee of 12.5% which was paid. By far the most disappointing experience I’ve ever had there.

Came down to stay for weekend and tried to go for a drink on Friday night at 10pm and again on Saturday night at 8.45 pm and it was closed. Are they permanently shut now?

Was parked in a lay-by and ordered from here on uber. I’m from Yorkshire and we all know the best fish and chips come from gods country. Bens batter comes second, bloody hell it was gorgeous. I ordered on uber to be delivered to my truck in a lay-by bought a fish and a batter sausage it has got to be one of the best I’ve ever had and it was down south? Only wish they had added some chips even a handful just to try, up north we do that. But tell tha this has to be visited the batter is so nice. The fish cooked to perfection and the best battered sausage this Yorkshire lad has ever had. Keep up the good work.
