Wonderful English pub. Real home cooked food the way it should be done. Always a welcoming smile by Lynn and her great team. I can highly recommend this pub for, good quality mid week meals and lunches, Sunday roasts and a decent pinto of ale kept properly. You will not get a more quintessential british pub than this 17th century inn. Highly recommended!

Always a very warm welcome by Lynn and the team at the Griffin. The roast dinner is high quality and highly recommend. I would happily recommend the Griffin as the best place to eat and have a relaxing drink in Northamptonshire. As a real ale drinker, I can also confirm the ale is top notch too.

Had meal with wife starter and a main lovely staff no issues here was welcomed and they were freindly! Starter 5☆☆☆☆☆ porkbelly was nice plenty of fat so pork was tender - the potatoe skins were made in house soft and bacon was crisped well so no issues with starter The carvery was a disappointment 2☆☆ as I could have made better my self even the wife could of done better and she can't cook Yorkshire puds over cooked (to much egg whites or not enough flour) so were risen pancakes! over cooked on top and under cooked on base (unless vegan 100% which then yuck as meat eaters can tell the diffrence need eggs and real milk in yorkshire) Roasts need either cooking on day not day before or atleast turned 2/3 time (bases were hard and tops were plastic) roasts need turning! Colliflower cheese needs more cheese sauce! It was dry Parsnips needed extra 10-15 mins cooking time Stuffing needed more moisture way to dry - sausages and beef good quality and flavor no issues same as other veg cooked right It's a shame as a roast is serpost to be better than own roast or why go to eat out! My biggest fault 100% tho it was 100% uncomfortable to eat as under the conservatory part with out air flow circulation we both got cooked whilst eating Needs 100% better air flow

We come here as a family for a roast dinner and we're greeted and seated by the owner. Very lovely lady, highly conscientious. We all had the roast dinner. All I can say is WOW! It's an amazing roast dinner carvery. High quality ingredients used and fantastic service. I would highly recommend the griffin as a good pub and it does an amazing roast dinner. Never ever had bad service or a bad meal here.

This is a fantastic pub! We went with my partner and in laws for a lunch time meal. Again I chose the burger and it's a good solid 10/10. The beer was fantastic too. They keep a fantastic pint of real ale also. Due to the weather we even had mojitos. If strongly reccomend anyone to this pub who likes decent home cooked pub food with a decent pint and a sparkle of class. Fantastic pub, highly recommended. Never fails to impress us.

We’d been shopping nearby and fancied a roast. We googled nearby restaurants and The Griffin Inn appeared so we thought we’d give it a try. It was a carvery with three meats of Beef, Turkey and Gammon. We both had a slice of each accompanied by an array of vegetables and a large yorkie. The food was delicious and I loved the choice of vegetables: cabbage, cauliflower cheese, peas, carrot and swede mash, carrots, parsnips and amazingly crispy roast potatoes. The service was really good, attentive friendly staff. Will definitely return when we’re next in the area.

I visited The Griffin Inn on the 28th February 2024 with 8 of my family to celebrate my mother's 96th birthday with lunch out. My sister and mother had visited the previous week and were served nice food in the bar area. However, the food today was awful. The batter on the fish and onion rings was flacid and undercooked, my husbands brunch was one overcooked sausage, one rasher of bacon, one half of raw tomato, two small hash browns, one hard fried egg and a lake of baked beans. With it were two slices of white sliced bread spread with, what was said to be butter, but was a pale magarine colour. My husband asked why it wasn't toast and was told other.people prefer bread, with no offer to toast it. My sausage and mash was two re-cooked sausages which were poor quality on a bed of undercooked mash complete with lumps. The onion gravey was gloopy and a packet mix and had never seen an actual onion. Our friend chose the curry, rice and naan from the menu but was served a garlick naan, which she could not eat. The curry portion was also very small. The two burger meals were OK but the skin on fries needed further cooking. Two of our party were lucky.enough to order scampi with fat chips and had a good portion of simple food. All the food came out with delays so we didn't eat together as a group. As it was such a special birthday I did not complain until my mum had left. I spoke to the waitress who apologised but made no offer to speak to a manager or to refund any monies. I asked to talk to the "chef" who had gone home. This was less than an hour after we had eaten. The after service was poor, but the food was a disgrace. I am left never wanting to visit again. As we exited we saw the sign for Fine Dining displayed, which was ironic. Food: 1/5 | Service: 1/5 | Atmosphere: 1/5 1

This was our first visit, pleasant greetings on entering, attentive and polite staff. We were there for a Sunday carvery, but there were a few other items on the menu. Our meals were hot and tasty. The dessert menu covered our whole party of 8s tastes and I personally recommend the homemade cheesecake. We will certainly visit again, perhaps to try the week day menu.

I hadn’t been for years but remember this being a cosy historic pub with characterful rooms and a warm atmosphere. I booked as it was my choice for date night, the walk through the cute town was promising and the pub does look inviting as you near the large old door …..on opening the door that all changed! The smell of eggs was knockout…rank pipes, stale beer what caused this hum? The first thing you notice is the duck tape across the threshold carpet (classy), then the furnishings..wow…the look…..”borrowed from a 90s Bulgarian night club”! We just left, if the pub was this dirty I can only imagine what delights the kitchen must be hiding. This is becoming more and more common, beautiful historic buildings going down the pan from pure neglect. Do not complain that your pub is failing if you cannot even clean it for Chris sake or sort the pipes, we ended up in a large chain restaurant as a last resort how disappointing. I have to say tho the girl behind the bar was very friendly and cheerful, so definitely keep her on.

Traditional bar side area with leather sofas and open fires is very pleasant. Not a big space but cosy. Just not overly welcoming. You are stopped at the door around 10pm from entering and it’s been known to ask you to leave earlier than that which is strange as it is a nice place to sit and chat. The seating could be tweaked a bit to make more space to sit. The bar is well stocked and caters for most needs. To meet up in an authentic feeling pub for a beverage early evening it is a good spot to start especially if you get near to the fire.

Arrived at the restaurant and immediately you could feel how cold it was ! Everyone in the bar area had their coats on. We were shown to our table in the restaurant and I asked the waitress why was it so cold. I ate my meal in my coat and scarf and had to put a friends scarf over my legs. The waitress said as it was a listed building it couldn’t have central heating! But surely you make sure the whole place is warm enough for all your clients. Starters were ok. Mine and my husband’s main was chicken skewers and they came to the table cold. The waitress took them back and when they came bs k they were just slightly warm. Just not good enough. Unfortunately we will not be returning.

We called in on spec, being in town for a function.. We were early doors, so chef needed a little time to get up and running. No matter, we sat with a couple of drinks whilst we perused the menu. My wife is coeliac so we needed some special dietary requirements. The menu offered several options which Sara could eat, and as she loves fish and chips - which is not often available in GF she opted for that. I also went along with this choice, saying that I was happy to make chef's life a little easier. I was informed that all GF is prepared in separate cookers/fryers anyway, still I went with the GF option too. We were not disappointed! The meal was lovely, although on first sight the batter did look slightly pale, we needn't have worried as it was absolutely delicious, a lovely, crunchy and tasty accompaniment to the light, flaky fish. Add to this lovely home made chunky chips and tartare sauce and sublime mushy peas this was a truly lovely meal. Sara was more than pleased, and I was glad I'd chosen GF, although I feel sure the regular fish and chips would have been equally superb. The staff were very friendly, helpful and accommodating too. All in all highly recommended. Thank you The Griffin!

Six of us booked for Sunday lunch. Five opted for the carvery, one for a different option but with carvery vegetables. After ordering we waited a good 20 minutes before going to the serving area, but were turned away as the other option wasn't ready...it would be another 10 minutes! When we were told it was ready, we went back to the serving area. I opted for the gammon which looked - and tasted - delicious. The vegetables weren't so good. The peas were wrinkled, the carrots were tasteless, the butternut squash was hard but didn't taste too bad. As for the gravy? We were told the chef made it from bones and stock from the vegetables, but it didn't taste of anything at all. Worst were the Yorkshire puddings. When it was my turn to be served, I had the option of a flat black disc or waiting for a fresh batch. As I was told the fresh Yorkshires would arrive by the time I'd selected my vegetables, I chose to wait . Unfortunately the puddings in the new batch, although risen, were as charred as the disc from the previous batch. However, the food was miles better than the service. Not one of the waiting staff smiled the whole time we were there and one young lass looked positively sullen every time we or the other staff asked her to do something! Maybe new and needs more training? The worst part was when one of our party asked for the bill. The waitress looked straight at her and turned away. When we managed to get her attention again she spent part of the time talking over her shoulder to guests on an adjoining table whilst keying in card payments! Not impressed

Thought we would try the breakfast carvery. On a positive, for us meat eaters the food was very good and was good value. On a negative my daughter is a vegetarian and they had no veggie sausage option as they hadn't had a delivery yet. No discount was offered as she was only left with hash browns beans/tomatoes and egg with toast. On another negative note we did have to wait a long time to be told we could go up and had to ask a few times to be told just restocking with beans or bacon or eggs etc. A couple who came in after us had eaten and left before we had even been up to get our food. I think the coffee needs a rethink as £2.60 for a tiny cup of decaf seems a little steep. To add insult to injury we didn't realise until we left that they had charged us for an extra cup. I know breakfast has only been running a few weeks so appreciate there may be teething problems.

We wanted to try the Carvery today because we are taking family in two weeks and wanted to be sure they would be happy with it. The Carvery was very well presented and cooked to perfection with the exception of the roast potatoes which could have done with being roasted more. You had a choice of 3 meats and a lovely selection of vegetables you could tell it had all been cooked fresh the only negative comment would be is it could have been hotter but this is always a problem when you have a carvery. The desserts are all homemade and very good. Finally the staff are very friendly can’t do enough for you and make you feel very welcome.

Went here with my Sunday lunch club in February. There were 23 of us, plus 1 unexpected addition. The staff and manager couldn't have been more friendly and helpful. The food was delicious and the desserts, out of this world. Several people have approached me to ask when we will be going there again. I will definitely be booking Sunday lunch for our group here again. After we've given the staff a few months to recover!

I moved to Higham Ferrers recently and every time I’ve tried to go to this pub or book a table they’re closed. Closed on Valentine’s Day 😂 and they close a couple of times a week, they obviously don’t need the money.. 😂

Meat and Yorkshire served to you from the kitchen, you just add the vegetables that cannot be seen easily under pink lighting! Personally I like to see my meat being carved in front of me, turkey was very dry as if been reheated, partners beef was red, when asked if he could change it because he doesn't like it this way, was told No!... that's how it all comes!

Took my Mum for a surprise 80th birthday lunch today. The food was excellent, good value for money, the service exceptional, nothing was too much trouble. I was able to go into the restaurant before everyone arrived to put cards, presents, decorations and a balloon on the table. Thank you to Lyn and her staff for making it a memorable day for us all.

Booked for 6 last week for my 60th birthday, we were the only ones in the place and apart from some movable oil radiators there was no heating in the restaurant which was beyond cold, I have been using the Pub for 30 years and have never had such an awful service, I had checked out the menu online so was anticipating a great selection but we were given a very basic menu selection that was poor beyond belief. The food was very poor quality and the service was similar. Would I visit again ? Never, I feel that bad about this experience, you may feel I am moaning for the sake of it but I would have also given a great review if I felt it warranted it. So disappointing from what was the best place in Higham to eat at fir years.

This is a great Pub, lovely food and excellent staff. The Asian pork belly is delicious and they serve up a fantastic Sunday roast There's a decent selection of beers, including a locally brewed bitter. They do have rooms available if you're staying locally and if driving the car park access is at the rear entrance next door to Oundle veterinarians.

First visit for a while. Will need to go back again. Food really good, good size portions and served piping hot. Very reasonable prices as well.

Although the service in the cafe was slow and the staff forgot to bring me my order, the food was actually very tasty. However, the visit to the toilet was horrendous - the toilet seat in the unisex, accessible toilet had been left up to, to expose the most disgusting orange/brown urine staining (see photo's). I reported this to the store manager, who couldn't have been less interested - despite me showing her the toilet seat, she offered no apology, smiled and stated that it had already been reported and she was already aware of it. I believe she said that it was being addressed next week, so if anyone needs the toilet, you may be better to cross your legs until you can find somewhere more sanitary to use! Very annoyingly, the manager saw fit to speak to somebody on her headset whilst I was talking to her - really disrespectful and patronising. Really not the standard that I expected from Waitrose!

Really a tale of two experiences, arriving slightly later than our booking, not being local anyone that has to negotiate the Rushden Lakes Christmas rush hour traffic will I’m sure sympathise, we enquired at the bar to say we’d arrived, there was no room at the inn here, so we was told to go to the main door, who knew there was two, to check inn, we asked where that was, and the manageress very kindly got one of the young staff to show us (have you worked at Sainsbury’s, well done) however, the queue was back out of the door which, by the time we eventually checked in, the table had been released (I know, it’s our fault for being late) but the phaff in rebooking the table, I didn’t see 8 people come in and take what would have been our original table, was just too much like hard work, eventually we got sat down but told we had to vacate by 645pm which wasn’t a problem. Next challenge, getting a drink and ordering, the app, which would have solved a problem, didn’t allow for amendments, my grandkids didn’t want cheese on the burgers and with no option to do this, I visited the bar. There was two other clients at the bar, one being served and another waiting, I stood on one side and was told, please don’t stand there, stand over there as I need to know who’s next, which I did but then thought, there’s only 2 of us it can’t be that hard to remember, surely if a queue system is needed, then make a sign, though when I was served someone else stood where I was originally, but wasn’t asked to move as another member of staff appeared, begging the question, what if there was a queue All of this didn’t set a precedent for the meal, however I was proved wrong, the meal was served quickly, correctly, hot and with a smile, well done for this element, the hamburgers were wolfed down as was everyone’s meal. Greene King, please just sort out the front of house and ordering experience (bar staff and app) Ps. Question for any HH management, what’s the importance of the black cup you get when you’re taken to the table and the insistence of getting it back half way through the meal?
