We stayed next door in a holiday let and really enjoyed the 2 meals we had at the Shipp. Great service, food came quickly and everyone enjoyed their meals, great location. Food portions were big, served piping hot and reasonable prices for the portion size. Must admit I was surprised to see so many negative reviews as I’m fairly fussy and thought this place was great!

Lovely, fast and friendly service. Unfortunately the food was awful. Roast pork was served raw and bloody in the middle but they've brought out a new plate straight away, no problem. The vegetables were not great either, no seasoning on anything. Wouldn't eat there again but would definitely go back for drinks only. Fantastic location and very friendly staff.

Wonderful location, but unfortunately food was awful and expensive, both adults and children’s menu. I had a burger (£17) was completely over cooked, albeit fries were excellent, Caesar salad with ‘chicken’ was deep fried southern chicken - 3 small pieces overcooked - (£16)and kids had pasta with basic tomato sauce. One portion of chips never turned up despite chasing twice… Been coming here for 25 years, and had some wonderful meals Come on guys, you can do much better….

We arrived and were shown through to the restaurant. The server was extremely personable and attentive, but when paying £45 for a bottle wine....it should be served properly not just dumped on the table and the poring and checking if it's corked left to the customer. Partner had a small portion of fish and chips which she enjoyed, and the home made tartare sauce was delicious. My southern fried chicken burger was less enjoyable....a tiny flattened chicken breast with little spice could be found in an over loaded bun (which was seriously stale to the point I couldn't cut through it) with obscenely thick slices of tomato and heaps of coleslaw...obviously and attempt to masquerade the tiny pice of chicken...just did not provide value for money for £17.50. A lovely walk to the pub from our air bnb...but we'll be giving it a miss tonight and going further afield. I did feedback to the waitress who apologised.....nothing taken off the bill which was the difference between us returning or not.

This is a review for the accommodation - the company we booked via (Fresh Air Holidays) won’t allow me to post a review on their site. We pre-booked both the cottage and the apartment for elderly family members to stay in as we were getting married at the sailing club just opposite. Booked eight months ahead. A week before the wedding, Fresh Air took the money for the booking from my account, and THEN told me that the apartment was not available as pub staff were living in it. So we had to find last-minute alternative accommodation for my mother-in-law and her son. The cottage booking was honoured, but I rather wish it hadn’t been. The lockbox was impossible to open and my parents had to get a man from the pub to help them. With the exception of the master bedroom, the rooms were tiny and cramped. The bed in the second bedroom was so uncomfortable that my uncle (who is in his eighties) chose to sleep on the sofa instead. The ladder on the bunk beds in the third bedroom was broken, and my other uncle had to climb onto the bedside table to get in and out of bed. Drainage was faulty in both bathroom and kitchen - ten minutes to drain the sinks! Overall in poor repair and should not be let to paying customers until the lockbox, beds and plumbing are fixed.

visited for lunch on 6,5,24 did not have a booking but plenty of free tables available as it was 3 pm and most people had left. We were shown to a table next to one with a dog. I asked for an alternative as the dog would be a few inches away from us. The barman's reply was that the dog doesn't bite ( incredible) and this was the only table available, however within 5 minutes a couple came in, again without a booking and was told by another member of staff they could sit anywhere they liked.

Great pub food apparently under new owners. Great area outside and my dog was welcome. Only problem is when you enter there are ( I presume they are ) locals sprawling across the front of the bar who you had to squeeze past to order a drink, this made my girlfriend and I extremeley uncomfortable, they were over familiar too. That said great location with ample parking.

Aweful service, visited with my sister for a quick lunch, took ages for our sandwiches to arrive, my hot chocolate was cold, plates/dishes left on tables - seemed to be plenty of people milling around in the kitchen, and that’s where they stayed. One person bringing food out, two behind the counter - no co-ordination. Queue to be served was ridiculous. Don’t think I’ll be visiting again.

I was picking up my car from a garage in Kirdford. to think my wife are bringing Me across I decided to stop at the half-moon pub to treat her to lunch as we approach the pub the front door appeared locked however there was no times of opening or closing or no menus we walked around the side to find people inside as we arrived towards the rear of the pub we presented with a beautiful garden and I noticed a rear patio door I opened the patio door and a man said what do you want? I said are you open? His reply was the front door is locked. What does that tell you. I found this to be extremely rude considering they are supposed to be serving the publicyoung lady came up to us and told us sorry sir we’re not opening until midday at this time. It was 1146 whilst the pub was closed. The man’s rudeness has made me realise I never need to visit this pub again. I’m not sure if he’s the owner of the worker chef or just someone in there, but I found his rudeness to be completely and utterly unacceptable on this occasion.

Disappointing customer service does not come close to my experience in the East street store today. I had just had dental surgery and went in to buy a drink with a straw as I couldn’t move my mouth properly. The trainee barista a young lady was both incredibly rude and passive aggressive. She glared at me when I made my order and proceeded to bang the milk carton on the counter, throw the syrup angrily when I told her that she hadn’t given me the correct order. She angrily asked questions and when I couldn’t speak up due to not being able to open my mouth she repeated herself in a very unpleasant tone. I tried to tell her twice that I had just had dental surgery so that she knew I was not being unhelpful but she didn’t listen having decided that my drooping mouth was due to me being miserable and not because I couldn’t move it. She was passive aggressive in her every communication and made me feel uncomfortable and upset. It made me think if I had a permanent disability or issue with communication that I would never return to the store again. It should not be okay for a customer facing staff member thinks that it is okay to behave in this manner. As she is a trainee I hope that whoever trains her steps up and does a better job before people stop going to the store.
