We visited The Ship at Brandon Creek and ordered paninis for lunch: chili chicken, and cheese and red onion. These were both served with a small garden salad and five or six crisps. The paninis were baguettes with an insulting meager amount of filling. I asked the surly bartender if he would be happy to be served these. His excruciating arrogant response was "We have been serving these all day and no one else has complained". He was exceptionally argumentative and clueless regarding how to speak with dissatisfied customers. The chef offered to add more cheese. We asked for and received a refund of £15.90. There was no comprehension of how on earth we could not be happy with what we received. There was no empathy or an apology from any of the three staff members present.

Stopped here for some lunch, lovely location next to the river, unfortunately that’s the best part. The salad was not fresh as already browning, the chips were at best burnt and the lime and soda was tasteless. This pub has so much potential but just isn’t making the grade. We visited on the hottest day of the year and there were no umbrellas on any of the outside tables. Prices for what was served were on the high side, don’t mind paying for good quality food.

What should of been a lovely evening turned out awful . Food was awful brown lettuce , steak over cooked which was requested as medium rare , chips doubled fried in oil that really needed to be changed . Had to ask for the correct cutlery. When plates were removed no asking if things were okay and if we would like anything else. I asked for the bill to find we had been over charged for the drinks we had consumed . Spoilt what should of been a lovely night . Wont be going there again thats for sure .

We frequently drop in to The Ship at Brandon Creek for the joys of sitting on the riverbank in the sunshine and watching the boats go by with a pint in hand. We have always found it good, though it can be rammed. It's not often we visit on cold, dark winter nights. That may change after we booked, on a whim, their Valentine's night special. And yes, it was 'special'. Simply, the menu, and what was delivered from it, was of a standard you might expect from a self-proclaimed 'Gastro pub' whilst the prices weren't. You couldn't fault the service either. Fast and efficient. I chose Hake for the main course and it was delicious. Perfectly cooked and served on crushed potatoes. I notice too, that they do a very attractive deal for the over 60s at times during the week. Certainly Friday lunchtime 'fish and chips' will be a goto for us in future.

What a lovely location absolutely ruined by the terrible and rude landlord! As we pulled in to the car park, one of our family party picked a plum off of the tree under which he had parked, there was a man stood outside of the pub who began hurling abuse at my family member using extremely strong language. Claiming the trees were private property, not realising this was the case my family member apologised for encroaching on the private land. Despite the apology, the abuse continued, this all happened in ear shot of children both eating at the establishment and in our party. We assumed he was a customer, so we continued to walk towards the pub, he then began hurling abuse at us all, he exclaimed with strong language for all of us to leave as he was the landlord. Myself and the rest of the party will never attempt to go back whilst this individual is in charge. My advice would be to avoid at all cost!

Pulled into the car park and a member of our party parked in front of a plum tree. Picked a plum and was hurled abuse across the car park from the male owner of the pub. The owner didn’t even attempt to come over and explain that he was upset with a plum being picked but instead continued to shout and hurl abuse across the car park. Ok, so picking a plum from a tree in the car park is not the done thing but there are ways of expressing this to people and that does not include shouting across a car park rather than approaching someone. Unfortunately, this behaviour was in front of many people sitting outside enjoying their food and drinks. Not the sort of behaviour I would expect from a landlord, it was only a plum on a tree. Must have been having a very bad day. Myself and the 7 other guests I had with me will not be returning.

We called here for a drink and light snack on the way back from Norfolk, due to it's wonderful position right on the confluence of the rivers Little and Great Ouse. We chose a sharing platter of chicken wings and breaded cheese, mushrooms, onion rings etc. It arrived very hot (so far, so good) but the chicken wings were either on the turn, or of such poor quality and so full of stress hormone that they were unpalatable. The salad garnish was gritty and without risking the chicken we were left with scant, little food between us two. We did mention the unpleasant taste of the chicken to a man behind the bar but received no appropriate response. On the basis of this particular experience I'd only recommend a visit for a drink and the setting alone. We certainly would not wish to eat there again.

Met up with family for lunch and had a great time. Food was excellent, well cooked and very delicious. I chose this venue because they had a very good plant based menu, we weren’t disappointed. Service was very friendly and efficient. I only marked it down because the ale I ordered had just run out but there was a choice of two alternatives. The one I chose was perfect. We went Tuesday lunch time and the pub was very busy so I would recommend booking.

The beers were well kept & enjoyable! The staff were very friendly & approachable. The restaurant/pub is on the river with lovely riverside seating. Great carvery, Sunday lunch. We were moored outside this pub and could smell the cooking from about 8am! Roast beef. We went in for Sunday lunch and it was a treat. Two great slices from the huge joint, help yourself to veg, carrots, broccoli, peas, cabbage, cauliflower cheese, roast potatoes and big Yorkshire pud, lots of hot gravy. Really good quality and well cooked. Good value too. Had a apple and red fruit crumble and custard shared, for afters. Would recommend without hesitation. We returned for a evening meal later in the week, good pub grub, nice staff.

Called in last Friday with the intention of eating here as we visited some years ago. The pub was cold inside and not very welcoming which was much the same as the girl behind the bar. As time was getting on, it was going up to 2pm, we decided to give it a go anyway. By a stroke of luck we saw some meals coming out before we ordered. They consisted of sandwiches and the most insipid looking chips/fries I have ever seen which made our minds up to go elsewhere. We went outside, where incidentally it was warmer, and sat at the least soiled and dirty table where I did a quick search on Trip Advisor. This pointed us to another pub nearby so we downed our drinks and left. I can only concur with the views of DT in a recent previous review which is a shame as this should be a great pub.

Haven't been here for some years after having had a terrible experience. Gave it a go to see how things had improved over time. It hasn't. The whole of the outside is dreary with poor tables, in the whole mostly in the wrong place. The side of the pub with the best views is unusable because if the chip fat belching out over it's customers. Tables could be put on the banks if some effort was made. There is cabling for electricity supply running across the walkways, a trip hazard. Debris from trees and past customers in the floor. It's such a lovely spot and totally under used and drab. The menu is awfully sad. Italian people at the next table were in total shock when their expensive food arrived. It's mostly been left to conceal on their plates. I ordered a fish finger sandwich. All I could taste was fat oozing from the fish batter. 9 quid served with low quality chips. The only saving grace was the delicious lager shandy. I had hoped for better given that it's got different owners from my last visit. It's probably worse.

We visited The Ship. We arrived at 12.20 and it wasn't open. We nearly left, however prompt at 12 30 the doors were unlocked. We were offered a choice of tables.First impressions were not good. The premises are in need of a facelift. There was a spiders web on one of the seats we were offered! The staff were just friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. The menu was adequate. The food was excellent. The toilets were clean but need a proper changing table, not just a changing mat which was proper against the wall and floor. I have passed The Ship many times and wondered what it was like. Well now I know. Very good food, but surrounding need a spring/fresh clean.

Had passed this good looking pub many times on our trips to the coast (from London)... and this time we stopped for a bite to eat... and wondered why we had never done so before!Lovely, welcoming place - friendly staff, and a nice menu.I had haddock and chips, which was fresh and not overly heavy in batter. My wife the chicken & sweetcorn pie and chips - I barely got a taste! Desserts were hard to choose from ,as so many favourites... but went for the Lemon Meringue Pie, and very pleased with my choice - daintily presented - almost deconstructed - and really well done. Glass of cream on the side!Washed it down with a pint of Youngs Ordinary and a glass of dry Rose that my wife loved.Great stopping off place, and probably great for a lock-in if you are lucky enough to live nearby!

I have driven past this place for years and always planned to visit. Previous reviews are mixed so I thought that I would finally see for myself. The premises are well laid out and extremely presentable. The staff were extremely friendly and welcoming. We chose to sit outside in the glorious sunshine. The drinks prices are at the upper end but no more than you'd expect for the location. The only flies that we saw were just outside the main entrance - and what do you expect as a country dweller next to a river. The food was excellently prepared and delivered. I must say that the Haddock, Garlic bread and the Sandwiches were excellent and tasty. I will definitely visit again. The prices were at the higher end of the scale but no more than I'd expect for the quality of product.

The Ship is largely hidden by a flood bank so quite unprepossessing from the river and we originally intended to moor on the public moorings adjacent to those belonging to the pub. Fortunately, they were full when we arrived so we went on the pub moorings and then inside for a drink. What a pleasant surprise. Firstly, we discovered that we had already met the (nearly new) manageress, Jo, and her husband (live-aboard boaters) at the IWA Festival of Water, held in St. Neots the previous week and, secondly, that the owner is coeliac so the entire menu is gluten free (great for my wife who has a wheat intolerance). We didn't eat that evening as dinner was already cooking on the boat but so much did we like the place that we stayed another day in order to try the food. It's basically pub grub but very good if our fish and chips were anything to go by. The fish (haddock, fresh daily) was lovely and moist and the batter probably the crispest I have ever come across. My deconstructed lemon meringue pie was comparably good. The beer was excellent, and reasonably priced for the area, and my wife approved their Chardonnay. To cap it all, my wife, a folk musician, was invited to play for a couple on another boat who were celebrating their wedding anniversary and that led to an impromptu musical evening. Incidentally, the anniversary couple worked their way through three courses, declaring them all excellent.

2 pints and 2 G&T's over £20! Food was nice but again very expensive.Inside the pub was very hot, some windows open but no breeze and this caused a problem with flies. Service was ok.Would only revisit for a special occasion. Definitely not for a casual lunch date with friends

We have stumbled across this pub twice now, the first time was an accident and we were lured in by the attraction of their pies, the second time was also pretty much an accident as we were looking to eat and recognised them from previously. On both occasions our expectations were not high as we simply required a couple of pints of Guinness (the Adnams equivalent, Blackshore, is perfectly acceptable) and a hearty meal. Having read some of the less than generous reviews on here I suspect there might be an element of 'sour grapes' as both times we have felt welcome, the staff have been friendly, professional & knowledgeable. OK, the food ain't Cordon Bleu/Gastro-Pub and the better for it as their pies, puff pastry lids 'n' all on our first visit, were magnificent and our steak & pork belly second visit were perfectly acceptable for our needs. We were more than satisfied, even having dessert - fruit crumble & custard which absolutely was 'hearty' & treacle tart, equally hearty. The pub filled with numerous diners, shortly after our arrival yet we never felt less than attended to ably & professionally at all times. There was a good selection of wine and we felt the pub pitched and catered for it's demographic admirably. We visit Cambridge & Ely fairly regularly, from London & Sussex, on business, making a weekend of it, and will definitely visit this fine pub again

Went for Sunday Lunch with friends, my wife and I had the roast beef - the meal was one of the worst we have ever experienced. The beef was stringy and tough, the Yorkshire pudding overcooked, roast potatoes were very salty, the roast parsnips under cooked and the boiled vegetables very plain. My wife had the Lemon Meringue pie which arrived as a stack of biscuit base with layers of hard meringue and cream and a lemon (curd?) mixture drizzled over the top - disgusting. The crumble on my pudding was under cooked. We used to frequent this pub a lot several years ago and this was the first visit here for sometime but we will not be returning. What was once a pub that it was difficult to reserve a table on a Sunday now has its main restaurant closed through lack of customers!

Went here lunchtime . Sat outside on the riverside and saw a seal. Ordered 2 sandwiches and didn't realise they were so big, 2 big baguettes and chips. Friendly staff and good lager.

Nice place to stop by the river, now specialises in pies which are very nice but if you expect a stand alone pie, these are served in a dish with puff pastry top. Very nice however and lovely puddings too

Staff were attentive and friendly. Menu is on a blackboard and includes pies, sandwiches and some pub classics. Fish and chips were good and so was the pork belly. Nice atmosphere and good range of beers.

Pub in a great location spoiled by incompetent and surly staff (some of who are obviously in the wrong job)Is it too much to ask for a clean glass to drink out of?Staff should not wipe the sweat off their brow and then wipe their hands on their trousers just before serving - unforgivable

Looking at the location you would think what can go wrong, beautiful river, sun trap!!! Unfortunately that’s where it ends, food is ok at best, we have fish and chips, chips are cooked from frozen (how hard is it to make your own chips) and fish was ok but batter was well over cooked. £6.30 for a medium glass of wine is way over the top for this not even average pub. The menu wasn’t very large and with the info on website about pie night gastro pub I excepted more than 4 choices. The outside area could be lovely if the tables were cleared once in a while of bird mess and they checked the ground for dog poo. Real shame as high hopes for this lovely location

Nice setting by river. I thought 11 pond for a burger with a small basket of fries was a bit expensive. Staff were generally pleasant, although a little paranoid about me running off without paying, Had to leave card behind till when eating outside, must look dodgy or too poor for the over priced food. Food was o.k though.

Very average food with above average prices. This place could be a gold mine with more effort and better quality produce!! It has so much potential but is just wasted in my opinion.

We booked a table for a very late lunch here the last Sunday in April. Explained one of the party preferred a vegan diet. When we arrived, we were handed a list of main courses that were vegan, and also a list of puddings that could be made vegan. On the strength of the very good service and more than adequate meal, I should be happy to eat here again.

I did love this pub until the head chef kicked off at me and my partner for no reason and then headbutted him while his partner who's a regular kicked off at me and pushes me, the pub would not do anything about this

Two adults and two dogs enjoyed our weekend at the GTI. From arrival, the personalised touches really made for a memorable experience- homemade cakes, gin and tonic in the suite, relaxed but efficient service and delightfully presented accommodation. The pub and restaurant is wonderful, the food is exceptional. The service was wonderfully attentive and relaxed, the prices were good value. We ate in the restaurant and the pub, both menus were superb. We visited beaches, ran around the Downs, shopped in Burnham Market and Thornham Farm shops.

Ignore this place visited Bank Holiday Monday. Bad atmosphere no welcome and then 2 awful cappuccinos. Food average and very poor service even witnessed 2 examples of rudeness to customers.

Probably my worst WS meal ever. 3 sausages almost burnt, they were tasteless and well overcooked which I said to the server who grinned at me. The chips as usual most were hard and inedible, peas hard. Served in a bowl with gravy all over the chips. WS has had a problem with hard chips for months, I have complained to staff and emailed head office to no avail. Thats it I AM NOT eating at a WS any more.
