Went tonight with my husband, daughter and granddaughter. Very disappointed with the food, two of us had curry and it looked disgusting, not enjoyable at all , my husband had a chicken dinner and the Yorkshire pudding would have made a better frisbee, you needed a hacksaw to cut it. The only decent meal was the scampi and chips. Will definitely not be going again.

Stumbled upon this pub whilst looking somewhere to park overnight. The excellent camping space at the back of the pub (with good clean wash facilities) were great. The owner and the locals were very freindly and gave us lots of advice on camping spots nearby. The friendly atmosphere really makes this pub one to visit. Also dog friendly so for us this one ticked all the boxes.

New to Chapel St Leonards on a dark Friday night. Missed turning & saw The Ship. Thought we would try (rude not too) seeing as we are seasonal goers next year at Goodwins and were on our way there. What a FANTASTIC landlord & landlady and the locals made us feel so welcome although didn't know how far it was to Goodwins but that's another story. That said, made us feel so welcome. The Real Ale was excellent and as the wife said, real fruit with her Gin plus a Great selection of Gins made the whole experience BRILLIANT. 100% will visit next season and can't wait to taste the food and play bingo on a Friday. Another bonus is that we can bring pops our beagle because dogs were as welcome as their owners. So glad we missed turning. See you soon. Andy & Jo, and pops🐕A REAL pub.

Visited Chapel St Leonard’s today as my grandparents used to bring me here many years ago for holidays. While the place itself has suffered the decline of many east coast coastal towns I had a nice day having a trip down memory lane. We called at the ship for lunch and the food was honest pub grub. I’ve given it 4 stars due to the friendliness of the locals and the owners. While it’s never going to win awards the food was nicely cooked and plenty of it. I had to return my pint of batemans which the barmaid replaced for John smiths without quarrel and then unexpectedly on his return the landlord bought me over half of the batemans explaining it was the end of the barrel. The nice friendly touches made the visit. Thanks for the friendly welcome

We visited The Ship as it had been recommended by the owner of the holiday cottage that we were staying in. I understand that The Ship has recently been taken over by the current owners. With a baby, it can be a struggle to sort out meals that suit his appetite and mine, as he is too young for a children's meal, so it was fantastic that the friendly staff offered to serve us a side order of mashed potato (which he demolished most of) for him and I was able to have chips with my steak!

Not your normal review. We recently had a bereavement in the family, we needed somewhere to take 20 people to after our service. With only 24 hours notice we asked if we could take friends and family there at lunch time. Being December it is obviously very quiet in the village, this was a big ask. Well they did us proud, a lovely little buffet, absolutely perfect for the occasion. I cannot thank the new owners enough, considering we only gave a days notice it really was lovely, the pub itself was lovely and warm, very welcoming.. A huge thank you and I can only say that if this is a measure of the service you provide out of season, that you deserve every success for the future, my wife and I look forward to going back there for an evening in the summer.

Told to mind the plat as it was hot, he wasn't wrong there !!!Salad came in a separate bowl and not put on the hot plate as many do. The gammon was quite thick and well cooked as were the chips. nice small peas all topped with an egg. All very good. We decided to give this place a second chance after being turned away the previous time. The signs outside say food served until 7.30pm and it was 6pm so we were early enough. We entered and could see that there was only a family of three eating so we assumed we would be able to order food but the server asked if we had booked, which we said no to and then insisted on checking with the chef which we found odd. She wasn't initially polite, however, she did become friendly. She came back and told us it was fine, however, she asked another customer to move seats which we found slightly uncomfortable. We ordered drinks at the bar before getting seated. The lager was flat and the glass of cola we had was tiny. We ordered the food fairly quickly as another party had entered and as we had an infant with us, we wanted to eat fairly fast. The food took 25 minutes which for home made food is a reasonable time. The meals were steak burger and chips, rump steak and chips, steak pie and chips, steak and ale pudding and veg and a child's chicken goujons and veg. The steak was flavourless and well done rather than medium rare as requested, the steak pie was tiny and probably not home made and the veg was very poor. The chips were home made and very tasty and were the saving grace. Not once were we asked if everything was okay with the food. We were mostly disappointed and will most likely not visit again.

Following previous reviews on Trip Advisor we booked here for lunch last Sunday with our dog. Drew was fantastic and made us feel very welcome and spoilt the dog with treats and even sneaked him a bit of chicken. Our roast was amazing, tons of meat and seven veggies with a giant home made Yorkshire pudding all cooked beautifully. Even managed to fit in a lovely home made pudding. Great pub with very friendly staff, excellent value, would recommend it for Sunday lunch.

Traditional pub decoration which is nice to see as some of the tradition is being lost in some pubs. Warm welcome was received and good choices on the menu. Ordered scampi and the lamb shank both dishes good sensible portions and both were tasty. Ordered sticky toffee pudding and treacle sponge for pudding both again very nice. All in all a great traditional pub and reasonably priced. Also saw potential for outdoor seating in summer which would be good

Understand your disappointment in being unable to eat such good home cooked food, however you obviously decided to ignore the advise given many times in the reviews for the Ship or fail to read them fully, they DO CLEARLY SUGGEST YOU BOOK. It seems most people who arrive casually expecting to dine & are consequently informed they are fully booked are disappointed then leave a bad review. All the staff are friendly and welcoming as many reviews state time after time. In previous reviews it states that it is irrelevant how many people are seated, the Chef can only cook for so many at any one time to maintain the quality of the food, which you missed & wont be visiting again so you state....your loss I'm afraid, its lovely. In conclusion a sour grapes review consistent of those who fail to book. Oh and bye the way why leave a bad review when you have not sampled the food, if the national lottery was on trip advisor I bet you'd leave a bad review every time you lost!

It was our first night in Chapel St Leonards & we saw good reviews for this pub so decided to eat here. As we saw the kitchen closes at 7.30 pm (very early for a Saturday! ) we arrived just before 6.30. The pub was quite busy but the restaurant was empty. When we asked for a table for 2 we were told by an abrupt woman that they were fully booked ! No apology or suggestions of anywhere else to try. We wouldn't go here again if we were paid to. Customer service very poor. We live in Hertfordshire & have never had such a cold reception despite the myth southerners aren't friendly. Nowhere did we read it was necessary to book.

Have just been staying in our caravan at the back of the pub for our second visit this year. Again we have been made to feel most welcome. When entering the pub it is just like visiting old friends. So good to come back and find the pub, its atmosphere, the staff and the locals are all just as we left them.Drew, Maggie and Jamie are always cheerful and happy to help. We have had several meals during our stay (including 2 Sunday roasts), and each one has been great value and ample portion sizes - well done to the chef.We are already looking forward to being able to fit in another visit.

Just been with 5 members of my family for a meal...the chicken jalfrezi with rice was a very poor portion size...it had 1 piece of chicken in and a couple of bits of chicken...good job we ordered a extra naan bread ....did tell the waitress who went to the chef who said "sorry about that "...don't like complaining but it was dire....if they had offered a free sweet or something or really showed they were interested in our comments all would have been fine...but they didn't.....I had the beef curry ..beef OK...but still a very small portion.....the other meals were OK...but the curry's spoilt the experience....it's about half n hour since we ate....back home now eating cake to fill us up

Unfortunately, the Dunes Complex is definitely not wheelchair friendly. There are disabled parking spaces in the car park. However, they were all taken, and some didn't have Blue Badges visible. Once in the Dunes Complex, there are 2 more ramps to consider, the 1st one is quite steep, and the 2nd one is less of a hassle. If a wheelchair user or someone who has mobility difficulties wanted to get to the stage, they would have to ask staff for a further ramp. To get onto the stage itself, well, there are narrow corridors that a wheelchair does not fit through, and there are no handles or any form of mobility aid.

Staying in Aby village for a week's holiday and had to try the local pub. Exterior looks a bit "tired" but don't be put off - inside it's friendly. cosy and lots of character. Excellent choices of dishes on the menu and "daily specials" board - we especially appreciated the choice of gluten-free options and Dawn was happy to go through each option in detail. Good portions and served hot! Very tasty and wholesome. Wide range of dessert options too and it was evident from conversations with other diners, that Dawn would also be happy to adapt these just to suit individual requirements. Obviously very deserving of the many awards over many years.

Lovely fish and chips hot and fresh cooked to order . Few seats outside or you can sit inside at extra cost . Only reason I've not given 5 stars is cause they charge for a carton to take away what you can't eat which I thought was a bit mean as we'd spent over £30
