Absolutely fantastic meal here last night, 30th Aug 24. We were a table of 8, 4 kids4 adults. I shared a shelfish seafood platter which was incredible so much quality fresh muscles, prawn, welks l. But the lobster was the best bit . All in a delicious garlic butter. Lots there. The other adults had had a steak.and fish and chips and highly rated their meals for it's quality, portion freshnest Kids demolished their mac and cheese. Additionally we had some dessert. The banoffe wasted best I have ever eaten. The service matched the quality of food. Drink choice waas also of a good standard with fantastic variation of wines and some cask ales. Maddy (i think her name was) was tentative, helpful and friendly. Give her a pay rise! The pub it's self is an very old building with so much character, and low beams (no problem for me) We will certainly return when we next in Dawlish area.

Out of the two pubs in Cockwood, I definitely prefer this one, food is good, ales are well-kept and prices a decent bit cheaper than the other place. OK you're not going to get quite the same sea view as the one next door, but when it's dark and hammering it down with rain, that's not an issue. Beer garden was closed due to weather, but it is very nice when it's open. Plus the fact it has more of a traditional friendly local pub vibe, whilst still serving up good food, whereas next door feels more like it's concentrating on food first, pub vibes second. Also I think the chef at the Ship is more open to 'dish of the day' special menu options according to what's good/seasonal at the markets, vs next door that doesn't seem to change it up so much. It is, however, quite a bit smaller than the other pub so recommend ringing ahead to secure a table if you're planning to eat.

A proper cosy locals' village pub, featured in the Good Pub Guide and Good Beer Guide. Perfect destination to bring our American guests. Great pub grub, log fire and doggy friendly. We arrived on Saturday, just in time as the pub suffered storm damage the following day. Best wishes for a speedy reopening!🇬🇧🇳🇿

Although the soup was nice it came with a measly roll which had been warmed in the microwave. I know this because I had to pay £1.90 for another 2 rolls and watched the young boy put them in said microwave. For £5.95 I expected more than a tiny breakfast roll. It has put me off going again

Had a lovely meal with my middle daughter on Tuesday evening. Sat in the bar as it was busy in restaurant. Had a lovely meal each, I had Rump steak and my daughter gammon. The bread/Roll and oil we had for starter was lovely and warm and delicious. Was a nice and relaxing atmosphere, nothing was too much trouble. Was very nice seeing Tom who I knew from a bar in Dawlish a few years ago behind the Bar, so was nice to catch up. Barbara and daughter Karen B Will go again.

We were staying at a holiday park in Dawlish. Had a busy day and really fancied some decent food. Walked into The Ship at 6.30 pm hoping for a table. Luckily there was one left. The pub was completely full. All had pre booked. We were made to feel very welcome. Had drinks whilst waiting for our food. Special was oxtail stew with veg and mash: delicious! My daughter had the burger, but it was no ordinary burger: piled high with cheese, bacon, gherkins and an onion ring with homemade slaw. My partner had local ham, eggs and chips. The chips were beautifully cooked, no grease just light and crispy. We were amazed at how reasonable the bill was. For that high quality of food. Thoroughly recommend this pub. Unassuming, tucked away in the village, but a real find. Staff were friendly and efficient. My advice would be to book ahead. It was full on a Tuesday evening.

Very disappointing. My wife had "Trio of Lamb Chops", great difficulty cutting the meat, very tough and chewy.
