Came with my family for a casual meal only to walk through a beer garden full of drunks who appeared to be loud, uncontrolled and very unwelcoming. My previous visit last year was a completely different experience. Very disappointing.

Visited on a warm thu night. Sat outside to make most of the weather. 5 meals ordered, everybody all enjoyed. 3 burger meals including a Haloumi Burger, all excellent. I got pie of the week (Meat and Potato) with really good chunky chips and mushy peas which was fantastic, and Chicken Fajitas was the other meal which was also enjoyed. Great quick service and Dave the landlord helpful as ever. Thankyou

Came here with friends, anticipating a good night, specifically for the quiz. Variety of ales were purchased, along with some good quality gins.,served by friendly staff. However the whole evening was sport by the actions and attitude of the so called quiz master. The quiz was delivered at break neck speed which made it hard to follow. The quiz master also seemed to have issues with asking for questions to be repeated. He should also learn how to speak and address people, and not speak to people as though they are aged seven. So in a nutshell,if you want to be spoken to as a child attend the Friday night quiz at the ship. Would return only for drinks.

We would like to express a specoal thanks to the waitress Eva who served us for a late Sunday Lunch today (9/04/23) she was very helpful , courteous, and attentive to our table from the point of arrival to departure. We were celebrating a birthday and Easter Sunday together as a family. Our review would have been higher if the food had been better. We had pre ordered as members of our group wanted roast dinner and 2 did not..despite me calling ahead twice a few days before their was a misunderstanding about one of the meal options. Although the portions sizes were plentiful the plates were dowsed in gravy which made the meals very soggy to eat so we did feel disappointed. We didnt feel the need to mention this as Eva had provided a good service. The desserts were delightful.

Dropped in for Sunday lunch, without a reservation whilst visiting Barrow for a sports event. The pub was very busy. The staff were very accommodating and found us a table and took our order before a large family group. We had the pie of the week, and the curry dish, straightforward fare, cooked very well, served quickly, with a great service. Really like Like Robinson pubs and would recommend this one.

Had pre booked for Sunday roast, young lady came immediately with the menus & took our drinks order, I did ask to be moved away from the door which she instantly saw to my request , the food was fabulous, we ordered broccoli & Stilton soup, chicken goujons, roast beef & roast ham dinners which came with creamy mash, 3 roast potatoes, cauliflower cheese, carrot & turnip, shredded cabbage & huge Yorkshire pudding with lashings of gravy, everything seasoned to perfection & portions were huge, both wanted sticky toffee pudding but only one left so also added baileys cheesecake to the options £14.95 for 3 courses how exceptional value definitely going again

Very limited menu and at 19:00 on Saturday at least four of the items were sold out/not available. Steak baguette was shockingly bad, five small pieces, burnt to a crisp and hard as wood. Burger tasted like cheap burgers, not freshly made and over cooked, prices were well overpriced particularly When you factor in the lack of quality and the manager couldn't of cared less. Staff on the other hand were friendly and helpful.

Recently had a bar meal, very courteous staff, but food was very poor - cajun chicken was more like a cajun sauce with some lumps of chewy chicken bits floating in it, n some chunky chipson the side, no veg, no salad garnish, no presentation at all - left half my meal and was asked if I wanted it boxed to take home - errr no thanks, if I couldn't eat it the first time don't want to eat it reheated!! Was never asked how my meal was - - so wasted £12 on a not very nice meal

Arranged a delivery from here during the coronavirus situation, came 45mins before predicted time. We ordered the homemade pies, chicken, ham and leek and meat and potato, both came with mushy peas and we asked for chips rather than fries. All were piping hot, excellent chips and an accompanying tray of gravy. The chips came in their own tray and, in retrospect one portion would have easily been enough for both of us. Pies were tasty, the chicken being the nicest, the meat and potato probably needed a bit more seasoning. Quite a range of choices on their restricted Covid menu but we are very grateful to be able to get meals delivered, still being in isolation. Would certainly book from here again.

Called in on the off chance on a hot Monday evening, quiet inside a few tables eating outside. Menu is smaller than it used to be, we chose a gammon steak and a curry choice, chicken Tikka Masala. I like the mix and match stir fry and curry options. Friendly quick service and food freshly prepared. Very tasty and good value at a total of £32 including a pint and a glass of wine. The inside could do with freshening up a bit, I noticed that a partition has been added between the entrance and the dining area to the left, a good addition as the tables on the hallway we a bit intruded upon. Ordered a nacho starter and 2 main meals. It all turned up at once - who does this a starter is a starter in my book!! tried to eat the starter before the cheese solidified but failed miserably as I was trying to eat my roast dinner at the same time. After eating the hard cheese on top found just grated red leicester underneath, so not even warmed through properly. no guacomole just bland white stuff and red stuff - cannot be identified as salsa. Took the plate of grated cheese to the manager - who was eating her dinner in the bar and to say she was totally disinterested and unhelpful would be completely accurate. apparrently this is how nachos are served in her universe and she did not see an issue, she even had the gall to offer me another plate of grated cheese! I told her that there was no way I would put myself through that again as it was awful the first time round. I left very annoyed to say the least.

We haven't visited since last management... before current management. Previous ones did absolutely put us off ver returning. They were so so rude and basically very people unfriendly. They were obnoxious to customers. When we realised the ship had been taken over again by new managers, we felt we really should try. Especially as ones before last ones were good.It is such a shame that new managers are obviously trying and fighting a battle against what the last mangers did. This is sad as new managers are doing such a good job. Staff are now friendly, polite and a joy to be served by. Choice of ales and wines are good. Menu is fresh and welcoming. It is just such a shame it was so so quiet on a Saturday night, and the business is so obviously being affected by how awful previous owners treated customers.New owners seem to care so much more. The staff they have are fabulous and very welcoming. Service is first class. We have returned to see if better and from experience it has returned to former glory in relation to atmosphere , quality of services and staff. Last Sunday booked table for 4 having been told it was a very good place to eat. When we arrived in the car park it was almost empty, not a good sign! We were shown to our table by a very nice young waiter. The atmosphere is good, tables well spaced, large dining area, nice bar and whole area in good condition. We ordered and our starters arrived in good time. Garlic mushrooms were served in a soup bowl, on a plate with side salad and a slice of bread. Mushrooms were sliced and in a very thin sauce with no great taste, plentiful but not great. Prawn cocktail in a soup bowl on a plate with side salad and a slice of bread. The prawns were sitting on another salad in the soup bowl. It was ok. Pate was served with side salad and a slice of toast. No great flavour but not bad.Main courses all disappointing, roast beef was smothered in gravy to try and hide the cold dry meat. Roast potatoes were dreadful, way overcooked! Some vegetables hot, some cold. Burger that we were told was made on site seemed to be not so. Those horrible shop bought onion rings on the side. Fish and chips were just about ok but batter was not great. Beef in a sauce with rice was reasonable.Overall very disappointed

Visited with a group of friends for a bite to eat and a bit of fun with the quiz. First disappointment was the lack of choice for vegetarians and the lack of some food from the mains menu which meant people having to rethink their orders. Most of us ordered the garlic mushrooms which arrived with a slice of bread from an ordinary sliced loaf and a thin vinegary sauce. The mushrooms were cut into lovely chunks but were overly garlicky. One of out group had the buffalo wings which looked lovely and she said they tasted good too. Mains were a mixed bag. Kebabs consisting of one skewer with a wrap and sauce and a bit of chopped salad veg. Tasty but definitely not worth the price. I had the steak pie which was delicious and generous, lovely tender steak in a rich gravy and this is what bumped the rating from poor to average. The only disappointment with this dish was the choice of veg...carrots and peas - clearly frozen and bland. Another member of our group had the pulled pork burger which she said was lovely but the cheap frozen skinny fries weren't very nice. The biggest disappointment came for our vegetarian friend who ended up ordering a vegetarian curry due to first choice being unavailable but the choice of veg was shocking. Same frozen carrots and peas plus mushrooms in a curry sauce neither imaginative nor tasty. We participated in the quiz which was not very challenging and had wrong answers but the quiz master when queried was decidedly rude. Used to be a fantastic place to eat with a brilliant quiz but the previous owners dragged it downhill. Hopefully the new owners, who seem very nice, will improve the standard of food and think more creatively about vegetarian choices being served, as it is early days but as it stands I won't return in a hurry.

Visited The Ship Inn Roose on Friday 1st April 2016 for the quiz night. What a disappointment. No wine or spirits for my wife or daughter, the shelves were bare. Very few choice of bottles, no draft Cider, no Cask Ales and little choice of Beer and Lager. What is going on? What has happened to this once good welcoming family pub? What are Robinsons thinking, having the present clowns as Tenants? The food is not much better. On my last visit I had Chicken Kiev and my wife had Cumberland Sausage. Very poor quality, ridiculously small portions, will not go again.Rumours on Friday night were that the present tenants were leaving and serving their notice. This could account for the lack of alcoholic drinks. If they are going, good riddance. We hope that Robinson’s will find somebody who can restore this pub to its former glory’s. Bring back the previous Land Lord / Tennant. Sadly, we believe he has retired, mores the pity.Sam Brown.

We visited here on Easter Sunday for a roast, I had called a day ahead to book, in anticipation of the place being full on what should be one of the busiest Sunday's. On arrival the pub is very nicely appointed, we were sat fairly rapidly and our drinks order taken, but I was taken aback by how quiet it was. Our drinks took some 20 minutes to arrive, even though there was only 4 other tables in. We ordered the roast dinners(£9.95) and they arrived in around 10 minutes. The roast was ok, with a big Yorkshire Pudding, but the meat (lamb) was very fatty and watery. All in all, the food was average, but I feel probably not worth its price tag.

Went on a Saturday night at 7.30 just for a bite to eat with hubby, was seated quickly and waitress was nice. There were hardly any beers on draught and all pumps covered over. The place wasn't even half full. We were given a menu (we had to share as there was not enough to go round)The menu was shockingly poor with minimum number of dishes, we we told that there was only one steak left and if another party that was currently ordering ordered it then that we couldn't have steak. I'm sorry but Saturday evening at peak time, one menu!!!!!!! one steak!!!!!! We won't be going back until it improves drastically, bring the old owners back when it was exceptional.

We have been a few times & always lovely Called in on the off chance after 1st 2 pubs very fully booked. The place was unusually quiet. No cider on draft so I had to have a bottle. Starters were ok soup needed nearly full pot of salt for taste. Garlic mushrooms nice but to much with a bitter taste towards the end. **Mains**I had gammon. It was thin over cooked with dry frozen chips. Hubby had steak pie. He said was ok. Table next to us sent both meals back & refused to pay heard her saying like us been lots of times always beautiful but tonight was terrible. Rumour has it they are leaving so might give new people a try.

After not being able to add an extra 2 people to our booking for the Stagger Inn we booked here instead. Even though it was Mothers Day it wasn't packed (2.45) we didn't feel rushed for our table. The service was excellent and the staff very friendly. We all had roasts from the two/three option course menu. There was loads of food and we couldn't finish (but still squeezed in a desert). There was a really relaxed and homely atmosphere. The raspberry cheesecake was divine. I would absolutely go again. All mothers had a lovely time!

Went to the Ship Inn for the quiz night held on a Friday. The pub itself was lovely and clean, with nice decor and heating throughout.Drinks were good if a little expensive. However the night itself was a good laugh and we enjoyed ourselves. After the quiz and bingo, the pub gives participants a free supper, which is a good incentive in itself for going for the quiz night. But the night in general was very good. Will be back for another quiz night sometime soon.

The Ship Inn itself is a lovely set out public house and pleasant inside. I booked for 12 noon for 10 people Valentines Day 2016. Only us in bar a couple. We were seated & served drinks, only menu available was the set Valentine which was 2 courses for £15 or 3 for £20. It would have been better to have been told this upon booking the table 3 weeks previous as although there was some nice choices it was limited (especially dessert). We ordered meals to a quiet waiter & waited. Within 10/15mins they arrived, Myself- Duck & Orange Pate, bland & tasteless, 3 Mushroom soups- tepid & very salty. Main melas were served around 15 mins later, my husband 1st Gammon, Egg & Chips....no egg?! Have to request egg!!Quiet waiter arrives with Lamb & Pork roasts and completely mixes the 2 up, must know your Meats!! ( same dark gravy over both so not detected until family members had started eating). Chicken Currys looked lovely but very, very watery sauce so impossible to empty onto plate, had to eat via dipping in. Beef Roast could not be faulted at all!! Husband approached the bar for a drinks round, young blonde staff member took his order & said she would bring them over. She promptly carried on with what she was doing, flitting around in restaurant, no drinks for at least 10 minutes until she had finished what she was doing, very bad service on her part. Desserts ordered & Ice cream sundaes arrive, no spoons, sticky toffee puds, no spoons, I was handed 5 dessert spoons in a bunch & proceeded to hand out myself to family ( please note, spoons did not fit in sundae glasses so ate dessert tipped over for access). My son's Sticky Toffee pudding was cold when he took the 1st mouthful & he had poured his cream on top so he told the blonde waitress who apologised & disappeared into the kitchen. I sat watching for a new dessert & was horrified to see the blonde girl hand the replacement dessert to the male waiter who turned away slightly & felt the dessert with the back of his hand!! It was put down in front of my son & I discovered they had just 'nuked' his original pudding, cream & all. Not acceptable, so I address the blonde girl stating I did not feel it acceptable to re-heat his dessert especially as there had been cream poured over..not nice. Dessert replaced but at the cost of another conversation which spoilt my day. Overall this day was a major disappointment due to the faults with food & terrible service. The staff need extra training which falls into the hands of Management & should be addresssed asap. I wouldn't reccommend The Ship Inn purely on this visit which is a shame as they are faults that can be solved by 1. Tasting food for seasoning 2. Temp checking 3. Staff training. I hope that my review will be taken on board & used in a construcrive manner to better the overall customer experience at The Ship Inn.

My family took me to The Ship on Boxing Day for my 60th birthday and it was a lovely surprise. The food had been pre ordered apart from my meal and this seemed to cause a bit of confusion with the waitress as we ended up with one meal less than we wanted. The soup of the day was not to everyone's taste so most of us opted for no starter, but my husband said his Prawn Cocktail was lovely and my sons both had Fish Chowder which they said was delicious. My daughter-in-law ordered a portion of Chicken Goujons and a bread roll and she really enjoyed them. The main courses were next and this is where the confusion happened, I ordered Gammon with egg and chips and when it arrived with the other meals we started tucking in..except for Hubby as his meal didn't arrive at all!! We called the waitress over and the owner came with the list of meals ordered and said everything was correct, but when we reminded her that one meal was ordered on the day she apologised for the mistake and Hubby got his meal after a 10min wait. The desserts were superb and everyone felt full up and very pleased with the quality of food we had just eaten. We were surprised at how empty the place was when we arrived- 12:30pm on Boxing Day but it was getting busier by the time we left at 3pm. Having not been to The Ship for a few years we were pleasantly surprised and will be going back to sample it again later this year.

We came here again having not been for several months. Apparently it was a new menu which did have plenty of choice and they offer deals Monday to Thursday. The restaurant was strangely quiet, only one other couple, maybe we were a little early at 6.30 pm on a Saturday. We had excellent starters, black pud for me and king prawns for my wife, we both enjoyed these very much, not too badly priced at £5.95. I then had the steak pie which was good and my wife had a sirloin steak, a decent size and tasty but a little fatty and priced at £18.95. The service was good and quick. Maybe this was the January lull but we will come back again as there were other dishes on the menu we fancied.

We visited the ship on a Monday lunchtime for a birthday meal and after placing my order I was told that there was no mash potato prepared (which I thought was not satisfactory at 12.20 when food start serving at 12.00) I stated that I would have chips instead of mash with the steak and ale pie but I was not asked what I would like as a replacement for the mash on the cottage pie and it was just sent with chips. I also was not happy that the kids meals as advertised on your website was priced at £4.95 and included a free drink and ice cream. I was charged £5.25 just for the main meal. I have enjoyed my visits to the ship in the past but this visit I was disappointed with.

Probly would avoid this place unless you like to be verbally abused by the staff. I said I thought number of table was 23 to which somebody, that wasent serving me said you better go find out then hadent you. With an aggressive manner I asked him why he was speaking to me like that to 6which he started shouting I'm not getting served. Seriously over a number which I went back to check it wasent a issue. He still at this point shouting how am not gettin served and get f**kin out. The bouncers and the manager came over and bouncers couldn't handle it better and apologised for the adult that was acting like a child. Standing at the side of his general manager shouting get out you fat bitch. That certain staff member deffiantly need s a few lesson in customer service and how to generally act as an adult.....

First visit. This looks nice I thought. Place was less than half full around midday .Quickly directed to a table that required cleaning, but not asked where we wished to sit. Young person wiped down the table and said someone would be along soon to take our order. We waited and waited , despite some members of staff apparently doing nothing. Just about to leave when a waitress finally appeared. Started to take our order then said she couldn’t as the last people at our table had left without paying. Waitress left and came back a few minutes later and said unable to take our order on her iPad until it was sorted out. We would have to wait yet again , she left to attend other customers. At this point we stood up and left and will never be going back. Customer service is appalling. Can’t comment on the food as we never got any!
