Considering the coffee shop is adjacent to a ruin, I was expecting your average, tourist offering. I was happily surprised. We ordered baguettes, which seemed more like paninis. They were flavorful. I had bacon, brie & cranberry. The flat white hit the spot. And we shared a Victoria sponge cake that was our least favorite. Nevertheless, when you're with good friends, it makes for an even better lunch. Open Wednesdays - Sundays, 10:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.

A group of family members descended on Abbey Mill Coffee Shop during a walk from the nearby hotel following our sons wedding. Its a lovely little venue in a beautiful location by a brook adjacent to Furnace Abbey. Although the Pastries and Cakes looked tempting, we were in the market for Ice Creams,Coffees and Milkshakes. Each item freshly made and well received, served with a smile on what was a busy afternoon, with the Sunday joggers and the dog walking fraternity. I would imagine that this place is very popular in the summer months.

Beautiful September afternoon so went for stroll with Elly the Chocolate Lab. Furness Abbey was amazing in the autumnal sunshine. Chose Abbey Mill due to its outdoor dining area in the sunshine. Unfortunately being near to closing time we were unable to order sandwiches etc. However we managed to get a cream scone and drinks. The scone was hard enough to knock over a skittle if one was about. My flat white was nice but the Chocolate drink was luke warm and not mixed enough. Excellent location average fare .

Roaring wood burning stove provides a welcome glow as you enter the cafe. Staff are friendly and welcoming. Came here specially for the toffee vodka ice-cream and wasn't disappointed. Also tried the amazing damson ice-cream. I will be back to try some of the other unusual flavours on offer. Cakes and biscuits look exciting and inviting. There are lots of twists on the hot-chocolate theme - all ready for the Christmas period. Seating both inside and out. Lots of space for parking near by. The outside area has lovely stone carvings which add to the ambience. Toilets are around the back. They offer scones (with jam and cream) to take out. Also offer gift cards, which would be a welcome present for locals. All in sight of the Abbey.

My usual choice is a bowl of their homemade, tasty, warming soup and a roll as it's always very good. This time I was tempted by the brie, bacon & cranberry sandwich with salad on the side, as expected it was very good and filling. There is also a good selection of cakes to eat in or take away.

We had coffee which was fresh and delicious and we each had a different home made cake which we all tried a bite of and they were all delicious. All food was home made and they had a decent selection of herbal infusions. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable about their products and ingredients, which were largely locally sourced. Cosy place with pleasant staff. Awful awful lunch.our party of 6 had burgers chips and toasties plus hot chocolate a beer and water. Beer was a local brand bottle which we enjoyed. The water was cold which was refreshing. The hot choc looked fab but for two out of the three it was excessively sweet so only the cream and marshmallows were had. The burgers had thickly buttered bread and when one was bitten into an entire quarter of a tomato fell out covered in butter and an entire lump of butter. One of the burgers had hair in it. The burgers were very well cooked i.e. Chewy and dry. I don't know what the chips were cooked in but they tasted like very old fat and were hard. Even the toasty was soggy. Usually I would complain but we didn't have time to reorder so just left the food and went and in any case I couldn't see how the food could have been redeemed to be honest. Perhaps I could have got a refund but in the end A waste of money and food. We didn't have tea coffe or cake (all the cakes looked lovely by the way but I can't comment on whether they were tasty or not).Maybe it's a good place for a cuppa and cake but I would never ever have lunch here again.

We were out walking our dogs this morning and, just after 10 am, ended up at the Abbey Mill Cafe. The door was open and a female staff member was setting up the outside tables. We approached the cafe with the intention of having a drink. Without asking us what we wanted the staff member rudely said "we don't open until 11". Somewhat taken aback we left and continued on our walk. Now if we had wanted food I could of understood them not wanting to serve us until 11am but surely they could have sold us a cup of tea or a can of pop. There were lots of other people in the area at that time of the morning so if they can afford to turn away local custom for the following 55 mins on a bank holiday then good luck to them.

We visited on a Saturday afternoon after a lovely trip to the nearby Abbey - a large group of seven of us, ordered drinks and five snacks. There was one gluten free option (carrot cake) and no vegan food, so there were two of us who couldn't eat anything because of dietary requirements (the carrot cake wasn't dairy free). While our friends all bought a selection of food and hot drinks from the cafe, we instead ate some diet appropriate food we'd brought along with us to the Abbey (while drinking tea we had bought in the cafe). We were however thrown out of the cafe by a rude woman who said we couldn't eat our own food inside with our friends, we had to sit outside in the cold whilst five others ate inside. The way she did this was quite rude considering how much we had bought as a group, and if we had actually had options to buy something in the cafe we would have done so. It's not hard to provide vegan or gluten free options, nor is it unusual, and the treatment at the hands of this lady seemed totally out of order. If she didn't want us to eat a few crisps she could have just asked. The tea order was mixed up and slow, and the atmosphere uncomfortable. They stop serving hot food at 3pm. The cafe is very cute and picturesque, although a bit cold, and it would have been a pleasant trip without the rudeness of this one particular lady. We were allowed to bring our dog in on a lead, which was nice.

Been here twice over the last few years, both times in Winter. Unfortunately, the cafe was cold on both occassions, even though there was a wood burning stove in action. Very old, stone building of great character, with interesting memorabilia from past times. We had soup on both visits, hot and reasonably tasty. Served with warm, fresh bread and butter. We also had a toasted cheese and ham sandwich. This was very tasty with plenty of filling, just not quite toasted enough on the outside. This came with a nice side salad consisting of a variety of salad ingredients.I think the soup with the sandwich was £5.95 and soup and bread £3.95. (2015.)I guess it is a lovely place to visit in the warmer, summer months after a wander around the abbey and vicinity.

A fabulous little spot. The food, hot and cold drinks and ice creams are great. The cosy, rustic location, nestled right beside Furness Abbey is unique and superb. There is usually plenty of outside seating throughout summer, which is especially suitable for dog-owners and families with young children in buggies or running around. My only criticisms would be that it does get quite busy and yet despite this once or twice I have been and it has stopped serving food quite early. It would be brilliant if they could do food for longer especially at weekends and in summer, but hey, they do what they can and what they do serve has always been great. Staff seem nice too. Would definitely recommend!

Initially, I thought the prices were a little high but the quality of the scones and coffee made it worthwhile. Service was a little slow for such a simple order. It is in lovely surroundings and well worth visiting after you have walked around the Abbey. Seats outside for the rare occasions when it isn't raining.

We had an amazing cream tea here on Saturday afternoon. The scone was homemade, and full of fruit, and you got a good amount of cream and jam. The pot of tea was Huge more than enough for two people.

When the staff finally stopped having a dis agreement over something and finally washed some pots so we could have a drink, the tea and biscuit were a welcome warm up. However, the building does appear to look too rustic and clearly needs finishing off inside. Unless you like a dusting of cobwebs with your tea when you sit next to the dry stone wall!

Dropped in for a cuppa after visiting Furness Abbey.Nice pot of tea and awesome bacon butties. Staff were friendly, helpful and attentive. When we visited the Cafe and surrounding area were clean & tidy. The interior of the Cafe has been left untouched, so the walls are not plastered or decorated in any way. Personally we thought that all added to the character of the place, although the tables & floors were clean there was some brick & plaster dust in evidence on the walls.Would definitely recommend and revisit as the quality of the food we had was excellent.

Stopped for a coffee and cake during a walk. The cafe is lovely and clean inside. We had a selection of hot chocolates and cups of tea which were lovely and well priced. The cakes were homemade and delicious. Unfortunately some of the staff were quite rude and unwelcoming. The toilet room, which I can understand is part of an old building, was quite dirty and the toilet itself was in need if of a good clean. Sorry to say all this, and it is my first negative review.

Lovely old cafe that used to be the curators accommodation for Furness Abbey, but now independently owned by a local woman. Tiny inside but great outdoor seating available in good weather. Lovely food and freindly staff.

It is extremely cold to sit inside with no effort to heat it up. The atmosphere is dull. The food was cold and not very nice and also expensive for what it was. Could be a very nice cosy place but no effort is made. won't go back

They offer really good home cooked food at a reasonable price in a lovely setting close to Furness Abbey. Excellent coffee and the cakes are really good as well!

This little cafe is in a great location opposite Furness Abbey and is a perfect stop off whilst out for a walk. We called in for coffee whilst walking last week. The coffee was good but the coffee cake was amazing, and the other cakes looked pretty fab too. The rest of the menu was a bit cafe like ie. lots of things with chips but there was a specials board too

A lovely small café overlooking Furness Abbey. Very pleasant staff who seemed to really want to be there which is often not the case. Nice selection of food and drink made better with a 50% Tastecard discount.

We have been using this café for a long time and on the whole it's nice. The snacks, foods and drinks are all value for money. The location is excellent, next to the ruins of Furness Abbey, with walks through fields and woods. What lets the place down is the exterior and garden. If the owners paid a little more attention to the exterior I am sure it would attract a lot more visitors. For example, today, we dropped in for a coffee and a bite to eat whilst out walking the dogs. The café had only just opened and the table we sat at was littered with used straws, cigarette butts, drinks cans and plenty of other litter. The grass was unkempt, the flower pots had seen better days, the industrial bin was on display, so all in all a nice spot but spoiled with lack of attention. Shame really as that is the only thing that lets it down.

Next to Furness Abbey and located in one of the Abbey's outbuildings, we weren't expecting much more than a hot cup of tea, but we were very pleasantly surprised by the cosy interior and excellent scones. (We'd have had a proper meal as the menu looked very tempting but were heading back to our hotel for dinner). Everything is home made and there were obviously a few regulars in. Well worth a visit.
