The Ship Inn in Cornwall, Isles of Scilly

We went here on holiday after finding a good review and it did not disappoint! the food was wonderful and we will definitely go again.

This has to be the most eximius if not melior optimus primae classis prandium ever. The servitium was the usual princeps vexillum. We will be back very cito.

Das Ship Inn ist auf den ersten Blick ein uriges Pub auf dem Land. Auf den zweiten Blick ist es jedoch ein Restaurant, dass Ansprüchen an gehobene Küche genügt. Eine sehr erfreuliche Entdeckung zwischen den vielen Dorf-Pubs, die die Fish&Chips, Burger usw. servieren. Das Menü mit 45 Pfund ist gut bepreist, man erhält dafür drei toll gekochte Gänge. Leider gibt es keine Kinderkarte, eine scheinbar bewusste Entscheidung der Betreiber. Daher haben wir für unsere Kinder ebenfalls das Menü genommen, damit wird der Abend schnell ein wenig teuer. Aber es lohnt sich. Und der Service war sehr zuvorkommend. Einzig der Espresso ist leider sehr schlecht, was verwunderlich ist.

This was our third visit to this wonderful family run resteraunt, each time we have been with friends and family, we are greeted with a lovely warm welcome (as though we are old friends) The service is exceptional as is the food, the cheese soufflé, and the brisket, wow!. I cannot recommend this restaurant highly enough, and look forward to our next visit, we are so lucky to live only a few miles away.

We had a delicious meal here this evening. Really welcoming to us (and our little pup). The food was fantastic; amazing fish, soup, all of it! Props to the chef. Loved the building as well.

We have just been back to The Ship Inn with friends for dinner, we sat in the Snug, the whole evening was really excellent, the food as usual was the very best, really top quality. Ali, Greg and family really looked after us. It goes without saying we will be back very soon.

Just had another fantastic Sunday lunch with friends to celebrate my birthday, as usual the standard was very high and Alli even made a special desert for the occasion. This has to be the place to eat out, everything is absolutely fabulous. Will be back very soon.

It has to be said, The Ship Inn is simply fantastick, the very high quality of the food is superb and the lovely atmosphere and friendly service is an absolute delight. We all had a very nice afternoon. Will be back very soon.

Fabulous food and lovely friendly people. We live in Cornwall and have tried a few famous Chef meals out around the County and although usually nice they are either overrated or the staff are a bit lacking. The Ship Inn is all wonderful though. I had the Soufflé for starters and apparently it’s the most asked for item. I can see why. The flavours of the Monk Tail main course make me want to go back very soon. The wife loved the Brisket as well. I can see why this place is rated so highly. It’s a Pub that accepts dogs and is cosy and inviting. You’ll need to book as it’s good, very very good. The Chef even came out to say goodbye! How many places do you see that?! You won’t be disappointed.

A small but very comfortable pub/ restaurant with excellent friendly service from serving staff to the chef. It offers a small limited menu and is priced to include all three courses. However the excellent quality of the food and the choices that are offered should meet most guests requirements but to avoid disappointment check the daily menu when making the booking. We will certainly revisit next time we are in the vicinity.

A small but very friendly gastro pub. Food was very well cooked and presented. The three course menu is standard for evenings. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly. It’s dog friendly if you want to take your four legged friend along.

We came here for my dads birthday dinner in June with our nearly 3 week old baby (!!). In hindsight this was very bold of us as it was a Saturday evening but everyone could not have been more accommodating, kind and considerate. We made sure to wander outside when the crying started and my meal was swiftly taken back to the kitchen to keep warm! The food was absolutely wonderful, my partner and I are vegans and the options for us were so tasty and different from anything we’d had before, mushroom samosas for the main. I wanted to leave a review to thank the owners for being so kind to us with our little one and for making sure we were able to enjoy the family celebration :).

Fab pub, Fab owners, Fab food! A real gem of a place, food was delicious and all served up by mum and daughter who were lovely friendly and welcoming. Second time of visiting this year Saturday there were 4 diners (1 Gluten Free) and 3 dogs we all had a great time and the food was delicious. Our new favourite restaurant when visiting

Can't believe we haven't been here before; less than 15 minutes drive from home. Excellent 3 course menu for £45 and spoilt for choice. All three courses were beautifully prepared and lovingly presented. Starters of Beef Carpaccio and Cheese souffle followed by mains of Braised Beef and a lovely fish dish of Pollack; chocolate ganache and panacotta ended the meal. My wife and me agreed that the meal was probably the best we had eaten in years. Two very happy diners.

Yet another wonderful meal at this amazingly under reported restaurant. I would like to keep it secret but it wouldn't be fair! We always take our visitors there as it never disappoints. Don't go to early in your holiday, nothing else will live up to it. Excellent value for the standard.

Excellent quality, great food and service. A family run restaurant offering 5 star food. The pub is situated in the village of Mawgan on the Lizart peninsula Cornwall.

Great 3 course meal. £40 a head but excellent quality. Very friendly & Covid conscious venue.Went with 2 friends & my friends were late as there had been an accident but they were very accommodating. My friends had the cheese soufflé followed by steak & loved it all. I had smoked salmon with melon & then the skate. Absolutely fantastic. The best was the dessert - chocolate fondant with clotted cream & ice cream. Superb.I will definitely be back & have already recommended this to friends m. Top notch!!

Very high standards all round. The food was lovely and beautifully presented - a very good set menu for £40pp. We had cheese soufflé and venison carpaccio followed by fish of the day and pork belly. For dessert I had a chocolate tart and my husband had the apple strudel. For those nervous about Covid they had excellent procedures in place and the tables were spaced very far apart. In my opinion they could have got another table in without compromising anyone but there was still a nice friendly atmosphere.

And what a recommendation, this place is a gem. From the cosy atmosphere to the very helpful and knowlegable staff via the superb food this is a pub/restaurant not to be missed.

Once again, we ate out at The Ship and, once again, it was a great night out! Ali and Greg made us feel safe with the well spaced out tables, cleanliness and regular use of sanitiser by the staff. The food was, as always, delicious. Would highly recommend this little gem of a restaurant.

We visited The Ship Inn for a drink early on a Friday evening. Unfortunately, the evening dinner service had begun and we were told quite brusquely that our request for drinks could not be met. Another sad case of a public house no longer prepared to perform the basic functions of a licensed premises. Why not change the name to The Ship Restaurant ?

I can't say enough good things about this restaurant. I've eaten there 4 times since 4 July. Each time with different people and every one has loved it. I can take even my most critical of friends there, safe in the knowledge they are going to love it. Always a great vegetarian option. Everything I've eaten has been sublime. It truly is a family run restaurant and the service is fantastic. Big smiles, friendly and attentive. I love the lockdown offering and would be happy for it to continue, just need to book early to avoid disappointment. Particularly loved meeting Ruby the pony who stopped off for a pint with her owner. They take social distancing very seriously and I noticed the staff are continually washing their hands.

We went here for a family meal last Thusday 06/08/2020. Got to say the food is first class, the best we have had in a very long time. £40 for 3 courses may sound expensive, but its worth every penny. Special thank you to the host for the excellent service and for putting up with a 1 year old baby and our 3 dogs.

We had our first visitors since lockdown and I am so pleased that we brought them here. Warm welcome, fabulous food, great atmosphere and excellent friendly service. We were a bit nervous eating out in the current climate but the tables were well spaced, everywhere clean and tidy and waitresses spotted sanitising hands several ties during our visit. We felt safe without any compromise on atmosphere. Well done Ship Inn - our visiting family were very impressed. The set menu provided plenty of variety.

After nearly 4 months of staying at home our first time out was dinner at The Ship Inn with friends, Greg and Alli have now re opened, the tables are all nicely spaced, everything is spotlessly clean and the food as usual was top quality, we all had an excellent 3 course meal of the highest quality.Having dinner here is a real treat, we have re booked again and will be back very soon.Phil

Our first meal out after the lockdown& what a meal it was! This was our fifth time dining at the Ship Inn over the past 2 years. Each time has been such a high standard of both service and food, I am ashamed I’m only writing this review now. To start we both had the cheese soufflé, one I’ve had before and can’t resist. Then for main, I had a the Helford Sirloin, with garlic mushrooms, and all the extras, which was seasoned and cooked to absolute perfection. My partner had the lamb with a warm potato salad and beetroot as recommended by the landlady- we were sat nibbling at one another’s by the end because all of it was absolutely superb. The service is always with a smile and we always feel so welcome.Absolutely worth those couple of extra miles for a fantastic meal. Excellent VFM.

First meal out after Lockdown, and it lived up to all our expectations. Although the menu has been slimmed down, there was ample choice. Crab starter was excellent, ditto my cod in filo and the deserts were great. Good wines on the list too.As ever, the service was personal, efficient and friendly, if anything, a little less frantic because there are fewer tables.Many thanks for a lovely evening with which to start our Cornish holiday.

We eat at this fabulous place for New Years eve and again had a 5 star PLUS meal.We can’t begin to say how good is this food do try different things off this menu and you will be surprised it tastes amazing. I don’t normally eat dessert but we shared the salted caramel apple strudel which was sublime!!!

The first choice venue for family celebrations for years. Simply better than anywhere else on the Lizard, a genuine welcoming local inn providing first class food at reasonable cost, plus a decent wine list.

What a special evening, Greg and Alli make us so welcome and the food is fantastic. Going to The Ship is a very special event. Will be back very soon.

this pub has to be one of the best i'v been to, outstanding food, wonderful warm welcome, cosy log burning fires, great service, lovely and clean and the ladies loo omg amazing. was there for a wedding reception and nothing was to much trouble from the landlady. would highly recommend this place what a gem.

Too often (in my view), gastro-pub's are far more focused on the gastro, to the detriment of the pub. This place gets that balance right. It's a proper pub (with locals) and yet the food is first class. Probably the best meal out I've had in the last year or more. Well done to all concerned - I wish you long term success (because I'm not down your way often but, next time I am, I hope to return here for a meal!).

Yet am other amazing meal by this fabulous place, it is truly 5 stars for food and service. We are returning and can only say how lucky are we to have this restaurant local to us.

Just had dinner with 9 friends as a birthday celebration, Greg & Alli and the girls looked after us very well, everything was excellent, the food was top quality and Alli didn't miss a thing with the service.

Definitely a go to pub for food! We were a group of six and service was brilliant. Menu was good with a specials board and catch of the day. Our food arrived and I have to say it was the best pub grub I have ever had. Cooked to perfection and all local produce. A lovely relaxed atmosphere just a really nice place to eat. Beautiful inn, clean and friendly, landlady good with the kids taking their drinks order. Not a typical pub menu so you will need children with worldly tastebuds, fish and chips is available if necessary. Starters of olives and bread were lovely, all 5 main meals were beautifully cooked and presented, three steaks, the aforementioned fish and chips and skate wing from the special board. Would definitely recommend.

A really great welcome for our 2 children and dog when we are here recently. A nicely constructed menu with some interesting dishes, reasonably priced and all in a lovely setting. I had the special of skate which was perfectly cooked. The children were also really well catered for.

Booked in for 4 nights, good welcome, nice staff, nice food, nice ambience, really enjoyed out stay there.... however.. The seagulls are VERY NOISY!!! lol So are the other holiday makers in the nearby pub and outside smokers! definitely recommended though!!

We are in Cornwall for a week trying out different restaurants and pubs and booked The Ship originally because they had good reviews and also are dog friendly. However, the best reason for going to the Ship is the food. We both had the beef brisket followed by caremalised brie. It was really very good, the staff were friendly and the prices were very reasonable. If you are in the area, do not miss this one.

We dine at the Ship Inn whenever we are in Cornwall, the food is excellent, the atmosphere friendly and the staff professional and welcoming , a place not to be missed.

We were looking at trip adviser for somewhere to go for tea that was child-friendly with veggie/fish options for me and good meat options for my other half. Not an easy task. We decided to give the Ship Inn a go because it seemed to tick all the boxes. We got there and they were fully booked but found a table in the bar for us. We could certainly see why it was fully booked. The food and service were exceptional. It’s so unusual to find somewhere that is both a drinker’s pub and a great food restaurant that is also child-friendly. Everything about the food was fantastic, we really couldn’t fault it, from the fish of the day to the brisket to the kids sausage, chips and peas. We’d definitely recommend.

Everything about our visit was fab. The staff were lovely and friendly, the service was efficient and timely and the menu was very reasonably priced. However, the absolute best thing about this place was the quality of the food and the cooking. This is a chef who totally understands food and really knows what they are doing. Our meal was delicious, starters, mains, desserts were all excellent. The easiest five stars I’ve ever given!

Went here for a couple of meals while we were on holiday nearby last week, and it's brilliant. The kind of food and service you'd get in a really good restaurant, but in an informal pub setting. The whole family are so welcoming and efficient, and the food is wonderful. They're dog-friendly, and have some nice little touches like providing nut-free/gluten-free bread if you mention you've got allergies. Prices are also pretty reasonable.

Have eaten there twice now and both times have been brilliant. You receive a very friendly, warm welcome from all of the staff, and the pub has a great relaxed feel to it. The food is fantastic, last night I had the carpaccio, followed by chicken filled with brie. Wow is all I can say. However as delicious as the puddings sounded we were too full to try them. Brilliant little pub (especially in the comfortable "snug") and food you will keep returning for.

We all had another really excellent night at The Ship Inn on Saturday 22nd June, the food is absolutely top quality and very nicely presented, Greg who is Chef certainly knows what he is doing and Ali who is front of house makes us feel so welcome.

Fantastic food, very friendly and dog friendly too. Vegetarian food was interesting and well cooked. Fish and meat also delicious. Highly recommended. Service was great, attentive but not over powering. Beautiful old building.

My wife and I have visited this delightful establishment four times now. We holiday in near by St Anthony and our visit to the Ship Inn is one of the highlights of our holiday.

Had a meal at The Ship Inn on Friday 1th May, had the braised beef brisket - it was delicious then the Chocolate Caprese cake, with salted caramel sauce and cornish ice cream. Service was fab, with the young waitress always smiling.

Visited with family on a short break to Cornwall and I can honestly say I had the best meal I have had in as long as I can remember.

I find it so hard to find a good pub with decent food but this one definitely hits the mark, we had the best dinner in ages, we both had slow cooked brisket which was so tender and came with several little touches that you would usually expect from a higher priced restaurant. The staff were friendly and efficient and the ambience just right (no loud music) This would be our first choice when we next visit The Lizard.

We had a wonderful meal here on the last night of our holiday in Cornwall and would thouroughly recommend it to anyone. Each of the three courses we had were very good and quite outstanding value - you could easily pay a lot more and not have food anywhere near as good. The service was excellent too, the place was attractive and there was a really firendly atmosphere. I expect it would be busy in the summer and parking is limited - so my advice would be; book ahead and park wherever you can, because you should definitely go here!!

We enjoyed a fantastic meal here. The food was great quality, beautifully cooked and well presented. Complimentary freshly baked walnut bread was a great start, followed by a twice baked cheese soufflé which was so light that it just melted in the mouth. The slow roasted lamb was really tender and was served with beautifully seasoned vegetables. Pudding was a moist and light bread and butter pudding which was not too sweet. The service was excellent, friendly but unobtrusive. We would definitely y return when we are back in the area. Highly recommended.

Went to The Ship on our last night down in Cornwall and we weren’t disappointed. The staff there couldn’t have been nicer or more helpful. The food was faultless. The fishcakes that I had to start were some of the best I have ever had, and the lamb both my husband and I had for our main, was beautiful. I finished with with bread and butter pudding which was sublime.

Authentic, unpretentious and delicious, quality food in a comfortable setting. Staying nearby, we decided to visit with our dog for dinner one evening - so glad we did! From the warm welcome to the simple but inviting menu, to the top notch food & friendly service - highly recommended!!

We were looking to meet up for a meal with friends. Because we knew they were used to going to nice places there was only going to be one possible choice of venue. The Ship Inn is always welcoming and of course the food is always top notch. Our friends were impressed and a good time was had by all. The Cheese Souffle starter was out of this world. Highly recommended.

Third time visit to this cracking gem in Cornwall. In laws paid for my wife and I to have a meal as a Christmas gift. We live in Bovey Tracey, Devon and see the Ship Inn as worth travelling for to eat very good quality food, cooked superbly with very good presentation.

We enjoyed an excellent meal - one steak, one pheasant. The steak was cooked exactly as ordered. Both meals were well-presented and the portion size was good, but not unnecessarily big. I also had a very enjoyable pear dessert. Prices were about average for 2019!
