Nice pub with nice variety of drinks on offer and good space outside. Busy pub.

Hannah was our waitress and provided excellent service for our family. Nice to see good service!

Nice for a pint outside with heaters in winter, staff always very quick even when busy like Christmas eve or NYE, it always smells of fish at the bar though as the kitchen is right next door to the bar.

Great FOH team, not sure what happened to the BOH though. Our group ordered 4 medium bavette steaks - only 1 came out medium and the rest were alive mooing in our mouths as if they didn’t want to get eaten. They were so chewy the knife couldnt even cut through 🤣😂Wanted to give it back but felt bad for FOH as it was already busy. Next time give us the cow and we’ll bite it as it is😂 That rubbery steak will surely get rid of one’s double chin. Anyway, Merry Christmoos!

Overall great experience, but if ordering from the Christmas menu - don't order the Waldorf Salad as a starter or the Stilton cheese for desert. Both an absolute joke. The salad was a few leaves - and the Stilton tiny 'taster' serving. Not good value.

Booked for a birthday celebration meal. Pretty disappointing. We had to ask for cutlery and napkins three times, by which time we'd finished our sharing starter which we ended up eating with our fingers. Mains didn't arrive altogether and three of the dishes looked like they'd sat under the heat lamp for some time/bit dried out. Overpriced in terms of quality and service. Won't be back in any hurry.

Brilliant staff and atmosphere. Sian and Ed were both friendly, happy to help a traveler, provided a great atmosphere to all and had a great bar etiquette. I never had a to wait long and felt truly welcome. Beautiful decor and a good cohort of publicans here.

Absolutely the best place in east Grinstead! No where does one quite find such a perfect balance between top echelon food, the comfortability of the interior, aswell as the heated and cushioned outside !, to friendly and happy servers. It’s a must visit !! (P.s) the most attractive to those that aren’t looking for the ‘ youthfulness’ of the other options in town I

Had an amazing experience at The Ship in East Grinstead! Ed, the manager, was incredibly welcoming and went out of his way to make sure we were well looked after. The bonus? They serve Proper Job – the only place in East Grinstead that does, which made the experience even better! The food was outstanding. I had the roast beef, which was huge – I couldn’t even finish it! My wife ordered the chicken and leek pie, which was just as delicious and great value for money. We were also well taken care of by Sian, who was so friendly and attentive, making sure we had everything we needed. Highly recommend for the food, the service, and the Proper Job on tap!

Went for a spontaneous roast dinner. One beef and one veggie with small dessert and coffee and very tasty. Very attentive waiter Josh . Couldn’t do enough for us without being in our face. Def going back

My daughter and I had a lovely Sunday roast. Good portion sizes and lots of variety of vegetables. The potatoes and roasted veg tasted delicious, really flavoursome. Large portion of fantastically cooked beef and the veg wellington was tasty too. The roast was warm and it could’ve been a little hotter. I didn’t mention this because the extra gravy was hot which helped to warm the food. Our server Hayly was really attentive and wasn’t over bearing, which allowed my daughter and I to chat and not be disturbed. Really hard to find the balance when serving customers and Hayly definitely found the equilibrium We will definitely return again soon.

Good visuals on burger. Needs a bit more seasoning on the patties, for £17 - surely adding +1 cheese in the middle won’t hurt the budget…? It will even out the taste too, currently it’s like eating pickles with unseasoned patties on the side haha. Nonetheless, great atmosphere 💯

The Sunday Roasts were fantastic with excellent and attentive customer service! We’d mentioned in the booking info we were celebrating a few birthdays in our party, and the lovely staff gave us complementary deserts to celebrate which was a really lovely touch. Would highly recommend

A wonderful birthday gathering at the best hostelry in the town. Around 40 guests and outstanding selection of plant based food that delighted everyone. The vegan birthday cake was such a success that it converted the sceptics! The service was brilliant, the atmosphere chill and yet buzzing. Friends who’d travelled from Switzerland said it was absolutely worth the journey. Love how the menu is diversifying, highly recommend whether just for drinks or enjoying the food. Very well kept and friendly establishment.

We held a birthday party at the Ship Inn with full buffet catering for 40, with private hire of part of the pub. Ed was incredibly helpful throughout the planning, and helped us put together a bespoke vegan menu - all of the guests (most of whom weren’t vegan) loved the food and specifically commented on how tasty it was. On the day, Josh & Ed made sure that we were very well looked after - the service was excellent and very friendly. The venue itself is beautiful and didn’t really need much dressing up. Maybe someone will organise a birthday party for me here one day!

So disappointed with our Sunday Lunch. It looked great but firstly it was cold so we had to send it back. In fairness the staff were lovely and we got two new hot dinners. Quality of the meat was poor. Roasties had been around for a long time and chewy. Yorkshire pudding was dry and tasteless. So disappointing. Would not eat there again. Stars are for the wonderful staff😊

We can't fault the service. The lady who served us was pleasant and helpful. The food was okay. The Haddock batter was to thick and greasy. And the cabbage was though.

Went for Sunday Lunch with my husband. The Sunday roast was amazing. Very large quantity but very tasty food. Welcomed by the Staff, who were friendly and attentive, particularly Sian who made sure we were happy with our selection. Will definitely be going again, and would highly recommend….

This was our second visit this month and we had a delicious Sunday Lunch. The Fish and Chips were perfectly prepared. The staff are welcoming and very attentive, particularly Vicky who served us, she was the same lovely waitress as on our first visit, she recognised us and was particularly helpful regarding my husband being a coeliac and therefore no gluten.

Our local pub, staff always welcoming, lovely pub super comfy to sit in with good food and drinks and fab Sunday roast highly recommend.

I’d taken the last sip of a perfect pint and Josh came up to my table and asked if I wanted a refill. Perfect timing. Perfect service.

Great quiz here once a month on a Tuesday. Rob is a great host and makes it fun for all involved.

First time we had managed to visit for Sunday lunch since 2019. Got lost trying to find everything as there has been a complete refit. Everything now level (except terraces of course) ;-) The Ship was much less busy than on previous Sunday visits. Service was good (Grace) as was my roast beef and everyone helpful. Turned down the 'ambiance' (music) at my friends request as it was a bit much. Also turned off the air conditioner for us. See you August 2025 I hope.

We only used it as a lunch venue for 6 friends on a day out, everything was fine, a wet Thursday lunchtime so was quite quiet.

Great meeting place for drinks after work.

Limited menu choices, staff didn't know what they were doing, ordered catch of the day ,looked like a bit of leather skin side up still with the head still on and full of bones ,with hardly any flesh on it, totally unappealing, had to leave it. Asked for an Irish coffee, turned up with a black coffee with a jug of milk.

I organised a surprise party for my fiancé and all the staff at the ship were fantastic! Ed who is the manager was available all night and made sure to check in every now and then which was great! The food was fantastic! We opted for a lovely buffet and it did not disappoint. The ship is a lovely pub and the staff are very welcoming. Would definitely recommend if you are looking for to host an event or even just for a drink in the sun!

We often like to go to the Ship for a drink and today we decided to eat. The choice is very varied with something for everyone. The bar and kitchen staff in particular Josh were more than happy to adjust orders and the food itself was delicious. Excellent stuff 👍🏼

Had the best food, I hadn’t eaten in hours and the classic burger and tator tots at 7:00pm and they were absolutely heavenly!!!!! Definitely wish this was every night. Good customer service too. One of the best experiences I had going out. I’ll defo be coming back more regularly!! Give the chef a raise !

Both times going recently to watch the football we had problems with our bookings. First time our table was inside when we had booked outside for the football, my friend spoke to the lady on the phone to arrange this booking. The second time was the boat hut being double booked. We were made to feel as if we were in the wrong by the other alleged booking and the staff on shift. We kept being asked if we had booked it by staff and was asked if we would move to allow the other booking. The organisation is appalling which is a shame as it’s a lovely pub and garden, the food is nice. Also had problems ordering food, a portion of chips wasn’t sent out and my friends order was sent out wrong. I booked this online and it was confirmed over the phone and via email. Hopefully this is taken into consideration and rectified to stop this happening in the future.

I came here for dinner the food was absolutely delicious. The staffs are really good especially Josh was really nice and he was take caring of us with his smile on his face. Hopefully waiting to come back with family on Sunday for lunch.

Visited here today for lunch with my daughter and SIL. I haven't been here for about 10 years so it was great to come back. Fantastic service from the staff (who also bought out water and treats for our dog), clean toilets (always something I look for), decent food and a good array of drinks. It's great that they opened out the garden more, so there's plenty of seating for warm summer days (if we get any this year) on comfy seats. We all had burgers of varying kinds, the only hiccup was the error with the ordering of our plant burgers. We'd wanted the Ship Inn plant burgers but ended up with the Burger Shack burgers. Not a huge issue but I particularly wanted the trimmings that came with the Ship Inn burger. Still a good burger none the less. Looking forward to coming back here again when I next come back to Grinny.

We had Sunday lunch here yesterday. Sat outside on the deck area out the back as it was a lovely day. All went well. The fish and chips here are fantastic! Well done and thank you.

We often passed this place when we got our groceries at Waitrose. We saw it before it was renovated and finally saw the new look of it. Decide to give a try especially on Sunday for a roast meal. The portion of bread is just big. So big😅. It could feed 4-5 people. Very generous portion. Olive also tastes good and portions were good. Sunday roast looks very yummy. My husband said the taste of beef was good. My pork roast is also delicious. I love the generous vegetable put on our plate. We just don't like the gravy added on the plate. We prefer gravy on the side as we never know the taste of it. Sometimes roastes are good but not the gravy. We don't want gravy to ruin our meal. My husband especially never likes gravy on his meal, so to see his meal swimming in the gravy makes him less excited. Roasted potatoes didn't taste good. No flavor. Some places had a really nice taste just for roasted potatoes. The gravy is too liquid and a bit salty. We prefer thicker gravy. Overall we are happy with our meal. We will try another time to have dinner. Places have lots of options for the outdoors. We will try to come back in summer to experience outdoor seating.

Service was good. We were a table of 14. Drink order was taken once we were seated. Food order was taken efficiently. Unfortunately 2 had wanted the haddock and prawn dish, which was not available.The delivery of the food was not very smooth. 2 of the party had their food served after 3 others had finished eating. The cottage pie (second choice!) was not very nice, containing a lot of gristle in it. One of the battered haddock and chips was not very good. Batter was far too crispy and overcooked. However, it is not something that will make me avoid The Ship Inn. We have all eaten there several times before without any issues. We will see you all again soon.

This place exceeded my expectations. The seafood was excellent. The tempura and muscles were delicious. The service was excellent.

You need to remove the Risoto from your menu or learn how to cook one. Absolutely horrible. Other than that, great place.

We regularly go for Sunday Roast and the food is excellent. If we ask for things to be added or removed, they always do this and don’t get it wrong. Staff are very friendly, decor is great. Easy 5*!

Service was ok . We booked table for 1 hour slot food took 45 minutes to get to us. I had steak and chips with onion rings. Onion rings were ok but greasy. Steak was almost cold and very greasy , chips were also almost cold one chip was actually floppy and completely yuck several chips were wet and inedible. Have been looking forward to eating here for a while. Unfortunately from first experience I am definitely not rushing back for food. It wasn't even that busy so no excuse for cold greasy food. Otherwise we have visited many times before but just for drinks. Outside area is great and has a good atmosphere. Shame about the food experience

Probably the best family pub in East Grinstead, friendly staff, sometimes under staffed but that doesn’t prevent good service, just a lot of busy staff. Very accessible and accommodating and can generally get a table without pre-booking which is nice for spontaneous moments. All in all, a really nice pub.

Great dining experience if a little slow with the service. A very busy Friday night...food still really good but service very slow.
