Service was good. We were a table of 14. Drink order was taken once we were seated. Food order was taken efficiently. Unfortunately 2 had wanted the haddock and prawn dish, which was not available. The delivery of the food was not very smooth. 2 of the party had their food served after 3 others had finished eating. The cottage pie (second choice!) was not very nice, containing a lot of gristle in it. One of the battered haddock and chips was not very good. Batter was far too crispy and overcooked. However, it is not something that will make me avoid The Ship Inn. We have all eaten there several times before without any issues. We will see you all again soon.

Service was ok . We booked table for 1 hour slot food took 45 minutes to get to us. I had steak and chips with onion rings. Onion rings were ok but greasy. Steak was almost cold and very greasy , chips were also almost cold one chip was actually floppy and completely yuck several chips were wet and inedible. Have been looking forward to eating here for a while. Unfortunately from first experience I am definitely not rushing back for food. It wasn't even that busy so no excuse for cold greasy food. Otherwise we have visited many times before but just for drinks. Outside area is great and has a good atmosphere. Shame about the food experience

Probably the best family pub in East Grinstead, friendly staff, sometimes under staffed but that doesn’t prevent good service, just a lot of busy staff. I visited the ship and sadly didn't have a good experience, it was a Monday and not very busy We asked for table water twice wasn't given any We ended up having to go to the bar to order our drinks because no one came to get our order. I was really let down by the food I ordered the rigatoni and the pasta was over cooked and the sauce was very watery. However what I will say my friends had the sausages and mash and said it was lovely so maybe just stay away from pasta. No one came to ask if everything was OK and even after a while we had to go up to pay. The lady did check half way through our mains if we wanted dessert as the kitchen was closing. I don't think I'll be going back for food especially as its not the cheapest I'd expect a bit better quality and service. The decorations however looked fantastic really Christmassy.

Great pub for alfresco dining, the food was very good, tasty well cooked and hot. The service left a lot to be desired. Don’t get me wrong the service was bubbly and friendly but lacked experience and knowledge. It all started off with our red wine arriving at the table in a wine cooler and did not really improve from there on. I will say again the food was very good and it is well worth a visit, but they need to be a bit more diligent with their training before new staff are let loose…

Sunday roast here with family. Service was poor from start to finish. They just take your order and give you your food, that is it. No sauces or extra drinks offered and no check ins to see if everything was ok. After our meal we were totally forgotten about and had to find staff to get the bill. Chicken was overcooked. The plates were stone cold and all the food was cold, even the gravy. At the prices they charged I expected much better. Sorry no photos. Last time here. We come here because it’s halfway between family. Had a share ploughman’s which I felt was just enough for one. £22. The goats cheese looked as if someone had put their thumb though it to tear it. Fish and chips looked good. £16. It was large too. The two burgers were fine. £15. The desserts were poor. Eton mess had too much meringue and not enough cream. The Bakewell tart could’ve been homemade and should’ve been for the price £7.50 for a very small portion.

We went for Sunday lunch at The Ship Inn on Sunday 3rd September and we both had the roast Angus beef with Yorkshire pudding, gravy and mixed veg including roasted parsnip. I was going to ask for a steak knife, but the beef was lovely and tender, so neither I or my husband needed one. They took heed when I mentioned I needed it to be low fat (due to my gallstones) and left out the rich white sauce. The only thing I would have done differently if I had been the chef, would be to not put the meat on top of the roast potatoes, as the gravy from the meat stops them staying crispy. I did have one that was crispy. I would have put the potatoes on top of the meat. They were very nice potatoes though. The Yorkshire pudding was great, really puffed up, crowning the dish. In general we like the food at the Ship Inn, we often eat there and they have a great selection of wines, gins and beers.

Very nice looking pub but all the tables dirty and cigarette ends everywhere. Very expensive pints £6.75 for pironni and £14.75p for an undrinkable pornstar martini cocktail which sent back and then left. They don’t know how to make cocktails and make the prices up from the looks of it. Wouldn’t bother with this place don’t mind paying the price but Wetherspoons down the road is probably cleaner and would make a better cocktail. Might not be a popular post but just telling it how it is one to avoid.

The young barmen was very polite and attentive but the food was absolutely vile. Onion rings swimming in oil, battered crab which was just greasy batter (the crab must have swum away in all the oil), prawns with sourdough starter was £8 and had 4 tiny prawns on sourdough which tasted of coals. Does anybody actually taste the food before sending it out? Rancid! After complaining they offered 1 free drink. Certainly will not be eating here again.
