We had a walk down the canal from Burscough to Parbold and back. We looked for somewhere to stop for food and drink with the dog. The ship was perfect. That country pub feel with great food and service. The food was amazing and the location was right on the canal lock. Inside was exactly how you imagine, old school pub which was quite quirky set up. Will definitely be returning. Thank you

Another visit to the great Blood Tub for a family of 6 Sunday lunch and sat in the lovely Library. Four hearty very well presented roast beefs, a great sea bass and a sizeable steak pie followed by two tasty sticky toffee puddings, Very efficient, attentive and friendly service. We all really enjoyed our meals, the only observation being the stock used in the steak pie was way to strong flavoured,

This was always our favourite place to eat. It had been closed for re-furbishment recently so this was our first visit since it re-opened. We were both sadly disappointed. Presuming they must have a new chef as our meal of Fish & chips was not as good as it was many times before it closed for alterations. Batter was so crispy it shattered over the table as I put my knife in. Needless to say more batter than fish. 😢. Please lads put it back to what it was famous for - good food.

We booked our Sunday lunch today after a beautiful walk along the canal. We were greeted with kindness and gratitude! We had a table for two seated by the window with a beautiful view. We ordered two Roast dinners, one Pork and one Beef. They were both delicious- Actually the best roast dinner we’ve had for a while. We also enjoyed a glass of red Shiraz recommended by the lovely, young gentleman waiter! Overall, 5* service, food and surroundings! Im looking forward to celebrating Mothers day with you all on the 30th March x thank you 🙏

This is a lovely pub has a top quality chef or two, food definitely not pub grub, it's well worth the price, only thing is as weird as it sound the plates are over loaded bit too much going on, sometimes less is more, and the braised red cabbage far too sweet, one mouthful and I was done with the cabbage, I would definitely recommend and visit again

Breakfast with Santa was far too expensive. £22 for a full English, sausages burnt, bacon burnt. £22 for a pancakes, family of four cost £88. Last year was nowhere near this price. I fully appreciate increase in costs and support the catering industry post Covid, this however is pure greed. £5.50 for half a pint of Diet Coke. I’ve paid less for an evening meal for a family of four and much better quality. Before any response, only one child met Santa and a colouring book with a Cadbury selection box does not justify these prices. After 13 years of custom I will never return, just pure greed for poor quality food.

I went with friends for lunch. I booked in advance online which was very easy to do. This turned out to have been a good idea as our waitress said that, as we had booked, we would get priority service as there was a wait for food. The pub was very busy as it was a beautiful day. We started out in the beer garden but it was too hot so moved in to our reserved table. The service and staff were excellent. It was a very busy lunchtime but our young waitress did not forget us or her promise that we would be served promptly and the very helpful young barman came over just to double check that he had got our drinks order right. I was delighted with the good choice of vegan food. I had the spicy mushrooms with noodles and green veg. It was very tasty. My friends are not vegan but they also enjoyed their food and one took half of hers home as she couldn’t manage it all - our waitress helpfully wrapping it up for her to take away. I thought portion sizes were good and the prices reasonable given that eating out is an expensive business everywhere these days. Altogether our visit was a very positive and enjoyable experience. I had heard good reports of The Ship but hadn’t been in for years but I will definitely visit it again soon.

Been to this pub many times to eat but recently it has gone down hill. Gave it multiple chances as it's always had a good reputation but the last 3 times hasn't been good. Very poor experience of this pub. Called for a drink after a walk. We sat in the bar at first but quickly left due to very loud and raucous group sitting at the bar, one of whom worked at the pub. We went outside and struggled to find a table where there were no empty glasses. Two men employed by the pub stood nearby discussing everything that had gone wrong in the kitchen that day, their conversation punctuated with many obscenities. Later, four kitchen staff emerged for a smoke and again, a loud, sweary conversation about the chaos in the kitchen. So unprofessional and off putting. Meanwhile, no tables were cleared, every table was covered in empty plates and glasses. We wouldn’t eat here, given what we now know about the state of the kitchen.

Not a great experience on the food side at this local country pub. We waited nearly an hour for our food. My son’s fish and chips - oil was obviously too hot - hence the batter was not golden brown - like photos people have posted but in between golden and dark brown. I encouraged my son to tell them but unfortunately he was v hungry and ate it, you could stand your fork upright in the mushy peas without it falling over they were so thick. I had a salad with feta cheese and honey - basically it was a whole slab of feta straight out of the packet, drizzled with honey and heated in a fry pan with oil that was too hot so it burnt in parts underneath. When asked by the waitress if the meal was ok, she obviously didn’t like my answer and was rather annoyed with my answer. Don’t ask if you can’t accept constructive criticism. Would I go again ? No.

Last time we ate here we got put in a corner and basically forgotten about - it took 20 mins for someone to take our order and then our meal took 50 mins to come out. It was not a good experience. But we decided to give it another go. Came along on a Tuesday evening, no greeting when we walked in, difficult to find any staff, eventually asked behind the bar if we could get a table. Sat down and offered drinks, but we needed to check our daughter would find something on the menu before we could definitely stay so asked for a few minutes. We sat there for 15 minutes, nobody came back. Went to look for someone - nobody to be found. Obviously short staffed, decided to leave. The atmosphere was not good, clearly not enough staff on, didn't feel welcome at all.

Service very slow .. asked could i cook it myself at one point .. roasties needed hammer and chisel .. partners lamb was black on outside .. my veggie mushroom thing boring .. spot the mushroom. For 15 quid! That was enough .. left from there. If you get a new visitor .. make them feel valued! Because that wasnt it.

Just had an excellent lunch at Leo’s. We actually didn’t know it had changed hands so went expected the usual pub grub. What a lovely treat we had. We both had different meals, one had chicken stroganoff & the other had Sea Bass, which the menu said came with rice, salad & mixed veg. I asked could I have chips instead of rice & no salad. A huge amount of chips, I gave half away & still couldn’t finish them all. However I had to make room for a sweet. That too was superb too with Limoncello. We were served by a lovely smiling gentleman. All this including drinks costing less than that the usual “pub grub’. We will certainly be going back there for another party in the mouth. Highly recommended.
