Stanley Gate in West Lancashire

Back again, this is as good as pubs get.. A truly traditional pub, with lovely low wooden beams and decor to match, very cosy.. serving great variety of fantastic affordable food. Service was great, ales superb.... Food again was outstanding, portions were just right. So nice inside, warm.. If you get to sit by the log burning fire.. Brucey bonus.. .. Make this your pit stop for food, drink.. you will not be disappointed.

Just been to the Stanley gate pub. We were warmly welcomed by Chris and Caz. There was a lovely ambiance with a fire burning in the grate. Chris took our order and was friendly and professional. The food was amazing the steak melted in the mouth and the fish was lovely with thin but Crispy batter. We had an issue with the till printing out the wrong amount but Caz dealt with this and set it right immediately

Had family home for xmas and we all enjoy the Stanley Gate and go as often as we can always nice fresh food and a nice atmosphere

We come earlier in the year and decided to have a roast dinner.The wife had beef which she said was very delicious and I had the roast pork absolutely gorgeous

Boxing Day meal with family (5 people plus dog!), had a mixture of festive/regular menu and everybody was more than happy with their meals. I went for the sirloin, which was cooked to perfection, and my mushroom starter was delicious. Staff were lovely and attentive, and the surroundings were very cosy! Guinness was spot on as well! This was my first visit, can’t wait to come back!

Came to the Stanley Gate for a family meal and had a really good time as all the staff made us feel welcome and couldn't do enough for us on the night. Can't recommend the food enough in this place! Even the dog was welcome here so would definitely recommend this place to anyone who wants somewhere nice for a meal.

Went boxing day 4 adults chose festive menu,very disappointed,food was cold,half of desserts not available. We booked in November so no excuse for running out of food.the waiting staff however did a fabulous job.

Boxing day meal with family. 5 of us plus dog. Food delicious, hot, well cooked and plentiful. Service was fabulous. Knowledgeable, friendly and smiling 😃. Excellent pricing. Loved the whole vibe ✨️

Went for Christmas Dinner on Christmas Day. First course soup, watery salty slop. Mains had been microwaved, hasselback potatoes had maybe seen an oven for 5 minutes. Christmas pudding had been overmicrowaved and was inedible, I'd have lost teeth had a tried. Was offered a second piece of Christmas pudding as compensation. Bar staff got drinks order wrong. Similar experience from others in the group, their puddings were better. I wasn't expecting fine dining given the price, but my god. Saving grace was our waitress who deserves to be working somewhere much better.

Went on the 21st of December for a Christmas meal only to be told no seasonal menu at the weekend. So I asked for a mixed grill,but no sausages or steak,so ended up going for a burger. My wife had gammon,it came with pineapple,no eggs left! My son asked for sausages and mash,no sausages. So a little disappointed there. £6.50 for a pint of Moretti.

I took my kids for breakfast with Santa at the weekend. The kids had an amazing time and was very excited to see Santa. Santa entertained my 4 year old daughter the whole time, even colouring in with her. The food was amazing, we had pancakes for breakfast and then the kids wanted chocolate brownies which they all loved. The staff went above and beyond to make it a magical experience for the kids. Overall would recommend to anyone to take their kids here for breakfast.

A lovely little pub/ restaurant. Came across it by accident. Lovely food and service was excellent from very friendly staff.

We love to come to the Stanley Gate for special occasions as we know we'll receive a very high level of service and quality of food. We have been coming for around 3 years and never once in that time have we had a negative experience. On the 10th November we came to celebrate my husband's birthday (9th November) and received excellent customer service from Pauline and the team. As always the food was faultless and the afternoon/evening was very enjoyable. Thank you

We've only recently rediscovered the Stanley gate - we enjoyed many a meal here years ago with my late parents, and we were so happy to find they still serve the most beautiful food. Today we enjoyed a roast lunch - mixed meats for me, pork for my husband, cooked to perfection and so very tasty! The staff are very attentive and polite, and needless to say, we intend to return soon!

Upon arrival we were told that 2 chefs were off sick & there was limited food available. Once ordered (off a very limiting menu) the food take a long time in arriving, the fries looked like they were the last bits out of a frozen bag & were overcooked. Such a shame as last time we were here the food was great.

Returning customers here..Lovely family meal on Friday, all left happy and with full bellies. There is a new manager that we met who was very friendly and welcoming. We will be back! Thanks

We arrived for a family Sunday roast and all 6 of us were delighted with the 3 courses. Starters were out fast , all delicious hot & fresh. The roast dinners were amazing , Rib of beef fell off the bone, Yorkshire puddings were done to perfection and extra gravy was offered ( always welcome ) The trio of deserts was off the menu so we will need to come back to try that another time. Thanks to our friendly & efficient server Georgia, nothing was too much trouble. We will be back!

I wish I lived closer to this pub restaurant. Genuinely dog friendly (unusual for a Chef and Brewer), the chicken burger was excellent, friendly staff, water and treats for your dog and also doggy sausage or chicken is available to order.

First visit. The staff member was great attentive and helpful. I will definitely be going back.

I arrived at the establishment and was seated in the bar area, which had a designated dog-friendly section. Bailey, our server, promptly approached us to take our drink orders. We inquired about various drink options, and Bailey expertly guided us in selecting the ideal beverages. Chris swiftly delivered our drinks and took our food order. We ordered four starters, which were served promptly, hot, and delicious. Overall, the experience was exceptional. Bailey and Chris demonstrated exceptional engagement and a willingness to accommodate our requests. We look forward to returning to the establishment in the future.

Decent pub food, was very busy as it was graduation day. Decor a little tired now.

Only ordered drinks. Was a friendly place and good hygiene. Would come here again and have a meal.

This is a great spot. Went for a weekend breakfast and the lovely lady who served us (didn’t get her name but think she’s the owner) was fantastic. Couldn’t do enough for us. Food was delicious. Highly recommend. If going for breakfast be sure to book though.

Just had a Sunday roast at The Stanley Gate. Got to say it was one of the best Sunday roasts we have had in a pub. The Yorkshire pud was large light and crispy. We needed more gravy this was no problem for the 2 lads who were waiting on us, no extra charge and served with a smile. The pork loin was juicy and plenty of it and the roasties were crispy on the outside and fluffy in the middle. The veg was cooked to perfection. No difference in price from most pubs and we couldn’t finish it all. It’s a chef and Brewer pub so all you people with Tesco vouchers you can spend them here

Top quality ingredients used and cooked to perfection. Great tastes from the griddle! Extremely pleasant decor through out.

First time visiting this restaurant and would definitely recommend. The roast dinners were cooked perfectly with the additional pigs in blankets. Both desserts were packed full of flavour. Great good and drinks and friendly staff.

This pub has amazing vibes. Service was great and the food was just as good. The yorkshire puddings are to die for: the employes were very nice and they even let us take home pigs in blankets for our dogs. Highly recommended 👌!!

I have never been to the Stanley Gate before. What a great pub!! The steak and ale pie was the best I have ever had. The staff were excellent and attentive. We will definitely be back!!!

Distinctly unimpressed by the food. Average to poor at best. Had a voucher for a birthday so didn't pay full price but didn't feel it was worth what I paid anyway. Place was empty on a Saturday at 8.00 which speaks volumes.

Very friendly towards the dogs. Food pretty good (Sunday lunch). Service a bit poor. Lots of staff chatting / entertaining each other while waiting for service and payment, which took the shine off the experience.

As always fantastic, food was cooked to perfection, bar staff attentive. Felt really looked after. And our dog just loves it there with the doggy menu. Well done and thanks to Bailey and other staff. We will be back very soon.

Went for a meal with my partner, daughter & dog ,our table was well positioned. The food arrived quickly it was hot,very tasty & a good-sized portion .The staff were very friendly & attentive nothing was too much trouble. Would definitely recommend & will be returning ourselves.

We stubbled across this place by mistake, but wow lucky we did because it was fantastic. I don’t write many reviews, but this place not only deserves it, but a place that we will definitely return too. We were greeted with a warm smile and genuine interest in how we were. The food was fresh and of great quality, we left full and contented. Service was prompt, the staff asked if everything was okay a couple of times with real sincerity, if only all restaurants were like this. The inside is not just clean and well laid out, it is modern, but yet inviting. I am fortunate to eat out most weeks, if only every place I go to was as good as this.

We went for our first meal in 8 months since my illness. We were greeted and seated. After choosing our food settled down and enjoyed the atmosphere. Also being out was a new exeperiance and so a ot to take in. The two guys who were serving were Bailly and Adam who were very attentive - making sure we had a drink first - and giving us time to choose from the two menu sheets which was difficult as there was so much to choose - so we eventually did make a selection and it arrived hot and very tempting. Then after we had finished our meal we were talking with Bailly and he told us about saving some money ( as I had stomach surgery in 2009 I cannot eat much) which to me was gratifying and very helpful. To conclude quality food at a reasonable price in a great atmosphere.

Great food, great service, lovely building on the inside, twice we have been recently, and we loved it. Not many customers, though, while we we there both times, I don't know if this is due to the Stanley Gates location or because it's a little on the pricey side.

What a cracking lunch lunch , had the trio of meats and it was delicious. Only issue with the food was the soggy pastry on the apple tart ( an air fried would be much better than a micro wave. Staff first class, ambience first class. Can’t wait to come back

I visited this afternoon as a single diner, ordered two starters cos couldn't decide between the Squid or the Mushroom dishes, so had both and a main course of Gammon. Great service, great food quality, value for money in a clean and very well decorated venue and will be returning again.

We haven't been here in a year or so, but felt our visit was worthy of a review. We were very impressed with the food and service. New menu was great. 1st visit food is overpriced for what it is halumi fries ordered for me and my daughter sides as a starters caked in batter not a combination that goes together really the main meals are average at best all 3 adults meals we tryed here and won't be rushing back.

We visited The Stanley Gate yesterday as I took Mum to celebrate Mother's Day and we were waited upon by Rebecca who was absolutely brilliant. We we were seated at a lovely table for 2 in a bay window which was perfect for us as the area really did enable us to have a really good chat as it was very private given there was only one table in the bay window area. Rebecca was very attentive but certainly not overbearing, she was both warm and friendly, and she carried out her duties in such a lovely way and perfectly, all in all we received a first class service from her. Rebecca is a credit to yourselves.

First time here and have to say very impressed the staff are friendly and helpful. The food is delicious and good value for money great atmosphere will definitely be back cheers guys

Was here on Sunday 11th February for a combined anniversary and valentines meal. Food was excellent and then the bar area afterwards was nice and relaxing

No complaints about the staff but food poor. Steak unevenly cooked (not sure how you do that?) and vegetables on my partners meal seemed not fresh. Really disappointed.

We have visited the Stanley Gate a few times. The Sunday roast is lovely. Most importantly the staff are always amazing! We usually have our 3 year old in tow and it's never an issue. The staff always make a fuss of him. Thank you again for a lovely meal. Special shout out to Rebecca for looking after us and our little boy

Love this pub chain. The food in the pub is lovely. In truth, I'm dairy intolerant, and they do a steak and ale pie and a chocolate tart with vegan ice cream, which are to die for without having the worry of spending the night on the crapper.

Food was really nice, but a little bit cold when it came out, but the service was excellent and the waiter couldn’t have been any nicer or helpful. The drinks were lovely as well, they have a great selection of beers on tap, wines and soft drinks. It was lacking atmosphere in there but it made up for how nice it looks on the inside. But I guess coming on a Friday lunchtime that’s sort of to be expected. But overall was a great visit and I do recommend!

I’ve not been to The Stanley Gate for many years and having recently moved to the area, decided to go for a valentines meal with my partner. The food was absolutely beautiful, the staff were super attentive and the menu was well catered to Coeliacs… Thank you to Robyn and the rest of the team for the great service. Made up this is close enough to call my new ‘local’… and that I can even bring my fur babies!

We bought meals for two adults and two young children at the start of December, two meals being from the festive menu (three courses for around £28). The Yorkshire puddings were rock hard and the sprouts were raw....we still were charged a whopping £91-odd despite parts of the meal being inedible. We will be finding somewhere else to eat next week..... Shame as I've been going to The Stanley Gate on and off for the past 30 years, being a local for part of that time, and the staff and general atmosphere is really good.

Thursday evening hardly anyone in. The food was cold overcooked chicken hard potatoes I'm sure it was just heated up from lunchtime very disappointing & no gesture i.e free pudding after we complained although the sticky toffee pud was nice. Will not be going back had similar experience at Bottle & Glass so guess its chef & brewer pubs

Regularly meet my friend here, usually for a drink and a catch up, but have also eaten with a larger group a few times. More recently visited the evening of 30/01/2024, and the chap behind the bar was friendly, helpful and sociable. The pub has a welcoming atmosphere, which has definitely improved over more recent months.

I recently visited with a group of friends for a meal and we were all really impressed with the quality of the food. We all had two courses each. I opted for the lasagne with chips and salad. It was fantastic. Two had sea bass and the other ordered the mixed grill which was a huge portion. We were all really tempted by the extensive choices on the dessert menu. I had the chocolate brownie which has got to be one of the most delicious puddings I have had for a long time. It was devine! Served with ice cream and loads of chocolate sauce! Service was good. A little slow at times but they were very busy as they had a Burn’s Night special menu on too. A very pleasant man took our order (didn’t get his name!) but he was sociable and welcoming. Other staff lacked his enthusiasm but overall was fine. Have already booked to come back as I enjoyed it so much.

Had an excellent Burns Night meal here. The food was delicious with an excellent cullen skink and venison that was cooked to perfection, just to mention two of courses. A warm friendly welcome always awaits.
