The Ship in Broadland

Absolutely love coming here, particularly the beer garden in the summer. One of those pubs you can spend hours at. Reasonably priced and food is good too.

Wonderful atmosphere, lovely views, amazing service and really great food! The Ship has been one of our favourite spots when visiting Reedham for years now but the latest visit was so lovely, I had to review. The Ship has a perfect position on the river by the Swing Bridge. The atmosphere is always spot on. We go now with our young family as we appreciate the relaxed atmosphere with the added bonus of the beer garden with slide for the kids. Our latest visit was so so lovely. The food was seriously good, the current managers have really upped the game with the food! I had the jerk chicken burger off the specials. Sooooo good. 100% recommend The Ship.

What a great find. We're only on holiday but were treated like locals, such a friendly pub and village. Incredibly dog friendly. We haven't eaten here yet but definitely would and the menu looks good 👍

We had a fabulous meal, reasonable price for amazing ingredients. My sea bass was cooked to perfection. Staff were wonderful. Would definitely recommend.

Walked in to be greeted by a friendly blonde lady, ordered steak toastie and chips and ham/cheese toastie. Both were outstanding, £9 each, so can't complain at all. We'll be visiting again.

Lovely place to eat at, the staff were lovely especially our waitress. The food is all made fresh so no microwaved meals.

Went today for Mother’s Day and had an excellent roast dinner and delicious dessert. Lovely atmosphere and great service.

We have visited The Ship almost from the day we arrived back in the UK in 2004 and have never been that impressed. In fact we avoided it for several years as it was not very welcoming. So, why do we feel we now need to write a review some twenty years later? Well the honest answer is that The Ship has been transformed! The Ship is a pub restaurant situated right next to the Victorian swing bridge which in itself provides a delightful backdrop in the Summer as you relax in the delightful, well cared-for garden and even provides entertainment as it silently swings open or closed to allow the passage of river traffic or trains accordingly . The bar has a fine range of ales, a very small wine list and is spotless. The restaurant offers a small range of standard fare yet delicious pub-food which never fails to hit the spot (best whitebait we have ever tasted). However, we urge you to check out the specials board. The chefs are encouraged to present daily "specials" which are always a delight and definitely worth trying! To identify one that stands out above the rest is almost impossible as they are all scrummy! However, I am an absolute devotee of the slow-roasted pork belly. Truly heaven on a plate! We are also great fans of the Sunday Roasts. The meats are a delight as they melt in the mouth! Then there are the deserts... Now those of you who know the short redhead and I will now be reeling back "aghast" as your re-read that last statement as you know that we do not eat deserts. However, for The Ship we make an exception! Someone in the kitchen is obviously passionate about preparing and serving them and we find them difficult to resist (especially the brownies)! All I will say is make sure you have left enough room for a desert as the portions are wickedly large! Then there is the service. All we can say is "Well Done Team"! The welcome on arrival is always warm, there are always lots of smiles and there is obvious attention to detail. Nothing ever seems too much trouble and every guest is treated like a VIP. So, why wait until now to review what has effectively become our "local"? Well... Our visit last night is what has prompted this review. The owners have rearranged the layout for the New Year and it makes what was great before even better! The "new" restaurant area is most convivial and I am sure will provide the perfect ambiance for diners! Well done again! Oh! Almost forgot... The new coffee machine is a very, very welcome addition! Delicious again! Thank you and well done to all the team at The Ship, Reedham!

The service at The Ship was friendly and attentive, and I was really happy that they didn't treat vegan diners as a nuisance or freaks, but simply wanted to make sure everything was just right for us. The food itself was very good, and fairly priced.

Well, my wife and I went on a very long walk and came across The Ship in Reedham. We fancied a roast and my goodness, it did not disappoint! Every part of this dinner was amazing! The roast turkey was melt in your mouth and the veg was amazing! Had a pudding that was home made and have never tasted anything like it! A brownie can be dry but this was the most incredible pudding I have ever had! Check this place out!!! Amazing and busy atmosphere, amazing front of house and friendly staff! Great find and we will certainly be back! I’d give it 10 stars if I could!!

Had the best roast dinner... Beef was so tasty and all the veg delicious and super hot. Yorkshire puds amazing and roast potatoes stunning too. Lovely ale and vino to match. We will be back very soon👍👍

Stopped here for lunch yesterday with our dog. Nice friendly pub, great service and nice food - we both opted for a pasta off the specials and both dishes were really nice. Decent pint of Aspall and a good rose wine - would recommend.

Friendly and helpful staff and amazing food and beer. Visited during the floods and the staff couldnt have been more helpful with recommendations on where to go and what to do in the rain!

Great pub in a lovely location. Very friendly staff, good range of drinks, and excellent food. We had baked Camembert with honey and sage, then a panko chicken burger, and a mahoosive tomahawk pork steak with mash and plenty of veg, all superbly cooked.

Four of us had dinner at this lovely pub. The service was only surpassed by the excellence of the food. The pork tomahawks were fantastic. I personally will be returning as soon as possible.

We visited here when we moored in Reedham on a Sunday and it was the only place that served food after 3. Three of us had Sunday lunch and one had bangers and mash. They were all nice but not fantastic and the Yorkshire pudding looked like a ready made one. Our desserts were delicious though and the staff were friendly. We had a great night joining in the local quiz and I would definitely go back but would choose something different to eat.

Popped in while having a walk . What a lovely pub and so interesting watching The swing Bridge ,Boats and Trains in there lovely beer garden. Beer was brewed local and very nice too. Had a bowl of chips 🍟 best ever Lush !! Young blonde lady behind bar was very helpful and friendly

Visited with friends. Not a particularly pleasa atmosphere. Staff could do with some training in customer service . The place was generally run down with back of auction furniture in the food area . This could be a great little pub with a little professional management, and some money spent on it.

Menu was basic and food was sufficient but not great. The ladies who work there though are super amazing and super friendly.

A lovely riverside pub with a good pub food menu and great beer. Gets very busy on sunny days which can affect the menu availability so booking can be a good idea. The waiting staff and kitchen work very hard to please so always worth a visit. 👍😊

My wife and myself travelled from Norwich to visit the Ship Inn so we could have breakfast and watch the ladies World Cup final. When we arrived we were greeted with a warm welcome just as if we were regulars at this establishment. The breakfast was very tasty and served in very good time and with a smile. I would like to thank them for the welcome we got. My son Matthew lives a couple of roads away from this inn so we will definitely be visiting again hopefully in the very near future.m

My son came up from Kent to take me out for a Birthday lunch. I thought The Ship at Reedham would be ideal. There were good reviews on here and it looked reasonable. What an experience! I was a little surprised at the price of the roast at £18.50, which seemed a little pricey. Cue the meals. 3 thin slices of beef on 1 meal; a small piece of chicken on the other and my belly pork was so tough I had to ask for a steak knife. I still nearly needed fillings working my way through each mouthful. The roast potatoes were not cooked for long enough. My son had a taste of the pork and gave up trying to get through it. When I got the steak knife, I told the waitress that the meat was very tough. She then asked if everything was ok "apart from that" my son pulled a face to indicate that he was still eating and she just walked off. We finished the meal and we were told to go to the bar to pay. I asked if there was a manager we could speak to and the waitress responded that I would have to go the bar and speak to the barmaids. In the event, another family member went to the bar. The barmaid ultimately only charged us for drinks, but there was no apology, the last plate was still sitting with uneaten food on our plates and no-one seemed in the least concerned that we had had such an awful experience. Thoroughly ruined what should have been a lovely outing. I will never use this pub again.

As a large family group, we were staying in Reedham and fancied eating out one evening. We called at lunch to make a 6pm reservation for 13 people and we’re happy that they could fit us in - and the dog. We arrived a little...

I love this pub. Beautiful riverside location and great food. You may have to wait a little while for food as it's all cooked to order but the wait is worth it. They usually have a local beer or two on tap as well which is even better if it's from the nearby Humpty Dumpty brewery

We had a decent family meal here last night, it was nicely cooked decent portions and we all enjoyed what we ate. A slightly wider vegetarian choice would be good.

Had a great pork belly roast with a great selection of vegetables. Would recommend it. Overlook the river yare and has a nice beer garden plus good selection of drinks.

The rather childish bar staff exhibited a lack of experience, inappropriate customer interface and really didn't seem to care. Adult supervision was nowhere to be seen behind the bar. This establishment is at the bottom of a hill - in more ways than one! Reedham...

Food was pretty poor. The sausages were good but the mash was chewy and rubbery, and had clearly been reheated many times. The broccoli was greasy and the breaded Brie was over cooked and not at all breaded. Side salad had no dressing. Service was...

Food was terrible, reheated again and again, really poor. We will not be going back, such a shame as it used to be a favourite off our's...

Eight of us turned up without booking on a busy Sunday lunchtime. The welcome and service was excellent. The food was of a high standard and enjoyed by all. I'm glad we chose The Ship. If you visit Reedham, I recommend you try The Ship.

Good pub with grub. Large beer garden set by the water. Also they have a pop up that does pizzas and other bit. Probably best chicken wings we've tasted. Friendly staff and lively setting.

We got there quite late, and they'd run out of a few dishes, however the food we had was reasonable... No complaints about the food and fairly priced. Did get a little busy and due to the size of our group we ended up eating outside, but no biggy it wasn't raining.

We arrived at the Ship with a party of 8 around lunch time and asked if they'd be able to fit us all in. We were pleasantly surprised as they had arranged tables for our larger than usual group upon our arrival. The staff were extremely friendly and more than happy to help wherever possible. The food we had was exceptional and without fault. This was only made better by the accommodating alterations to meals for those of us with dietary needs. The Sunday specials were a great addition to the choices and the desserts were some of the best we've tried (try the banoffee pie if available!). There are other pubs on the Reedham riverfront that are more apparent than the Ship, but I'm so glad we tried something different instead! Thanks again to everyone at the Ship!

Shame about the food no taste felt like it was re heated. Maybe they don’t have a experienced chef. Try fresh ingredients not bought in

Great meal, friendly bar staff especially Martha and Maria. They made the whole evening a lovely experience. We arrived by boat and even had somebody help with the mooring and had a fun night.

A disappointing experience at the Ship. Good prices and friendly atmosphere but quality of the food poor. Myself and husband ordered a Ploughman’s priced at £13 (total of £26) to then receive each 3 slices of a small apple, 5-6 grapes ( of which some were mouldy) a small roll cut in half, a handful of bagged mixed salad leaves which had seen better days and were “gritty” accompanied by an over proportion amount of cheese which we ended up eating alone. There was no pickle. Overall highly unsatisfactory and disappointing for such a beautiful scene. The salad was replaced with “washed” leaves which still remained uneaten. We made a complaint to the waitress which was followed up by nothing and no apology or action. Poor management. We wouldn’t return.

Stayed at the ferry inn caravan campsite and cycled to the ship inn many times during our stay as their food is delicious and for a fair price. Has a lovely outside garden overlooking the broads. I would recommend visiting here for lunch. Food cooked with whole ingredients and passion. Will definitely return when in the area.

I ordered Childs ploughman’s. It wasn’t fit for purpose. It come with 2 stale pieces of plastic bread. I asked if they had any fresh bread . It had a little cheese, half a cherry tomatoe, no pickle no onions and basically I feel ripped...

We sat in the garden on a dry but cloudy day, watching the boats go by and the swing bridge closing and opening to let trains through. There is a little play park for the kids and an outdoor marquee for shelter when there is poor weather. We didn't sit inside as we ordered at the bar near the entrance and stayed outside, but it looked like a nice traditional pub inside. The service was really friendly and attentive even though we were outside. The food was really well cooked, my husband had Hunters chicken which he really enjoyed and I had a, "Small plate" of Bang bang chicken on a bed of rice." My chicken was succulent, really well spiced with a good bit of chilli heat and a lovely sticky sauce. As it was advertised as a small plate , I had a side of thick cut chips (but really for lunch, wouldn't have needed these.) They were however great chips, double cooked and really tasty. The choice of real ales was good, some from the local brewery and the ales very well kept. I would definitely revisit and recommend...even outside on an overcast day!

Food overall was lovely, the rack of lamb was very disappointing, only 2 small pieces of lamb precut on top of some mash, and the vegan chilli had no flavour to it, however the other meals where very good! Could do with moving the menu though, as I felt so sorry for the couple sitting right next to it with everyone looking over them as there's no paper menus just a menu on the wall

Food was nice but it'd a bit awkward choosing food as there's no menu as such just items on a board above a couple eating,the poor people must have felt like they were in a fish bowl.

We have visited regularly and it has been OK. However tonight it was terrible. They had obviously sold out of several food items but neglected to tell us. We waited well over an hour for our food. The taco special was TERRIBLE, a spoonful of...

Food was really good, Highly recomend the Sea bass. Good veggie options. Missed 2 portions of chips though. Was as if all the visiters were in one room, locals in the bar area. Room was packed to the rafters with like 6 dogs which wasnt a good mix. Service was good, and id go again

Basically our local although we go probably once a month as we don't drink. The food is nice but huge portions, even the kids sizes. Staff are awesome too and very accommodating (we've been with a pram and 4 dogs 😅) they have high chairs and baby changing facilities too.

Our usual monthly Trekker walk was at Reedham yesterday and we had a fabulous lunch afterwards at the Ship Inn. It is situated right by the river which must be a perfect place for a summer's evening drink or meal. There is outside seating and a children's play area too! There were 10 if us eating and we all had a Sunday Roast which was delicious and plenty of it! There were four choices, Beef, Pork, Turkey or Nut Roast and each of us had one of those options and each one was equally as delicious! Priced at £13 for one course or a very reasonable £16 for two, this was incredible value. Unusually for a Sunday, there was the option to also choose from the regular menu too which is amazing! The staff were all really friendly and efficient, which was really impressive as there were two large parties in at the same time but neither group seemed to be waiting for any length of time. A good discovery which we will definitely return to!
