The Shenai in Bracknell Forest

Poor!! I cant believe how down hill this restaurant has become,the staff don't communicate with each other. They took are drink orders,then other staff asked us again several times. We had to wait nearly 2 hours for are mains to come,which were cold!!, we had to ask for cutlery. The toilets where dirty and had no toilet roll or soap,shall NOT be returning very very disappointing.

What a terrible disappointment. Been here before and the standards have slipped considerably. Nobody knew what they were doing which was obviously a severe lack of staff communication. The prices have gone sky high. Waited for an hour and a half for our main course - the restaurant wasn’t even full so no excuses there! They are hell bent on churning out as many take away orders as they possibly can, hence the absolutely appalling service to their patrons. Not even a table cloth in sight and no cutlery. The food finally arrived which was bland and Luke warm at best. There were no distinctive flavours at all - one sauce fits all with a few ingredients thrown in where necessary it appears. Absolutely will NOT be returning. Totally ruined our evening. When I called a few days later to speak to the manager I was asked to call back in an hour when he would be there. I called back only to be told by an extremely rude man “I don’t care who you spoke to, I’m telling you he’s not here” and was told to f**k off you f**king b*tch. I am stunned. I really don’t know what has happened to that place, it used to be a joy to visit. Also the toilets were filthy, no loo roll or hand wash. Disgusting. If you have a lot of money to burn on awful food, terrible service and filthy run down surroundings then this is the place for you.

I was in Sandhurst for a sports competition and popped into The Shenai for some takeaway. The team are very hospitable and the food was very good indeed. Each dish tasted fresh and different, unlike the homogeny of flavour that can be found at other Indian restaurants.

My wife and I ate there with friends in November during a cold weather snap. The only heating operating was a fan heater above the entrance door. Shown to a table but uprooted 10 minutes later when someone telephoned in with a large booking. We complained three times about the heating and given three different reasons why it wasn't working. Food was good, but became cold after a few minutes. Restaurant was as cold inside as it was outside. It tends to take the fun out of dining out when you have to eat your food with a coat on.

Best in the area !!! We are big Indian food fans and use these guys once or twice every couple of weeks for the last 2 years We have great takeaways from them and we frequently attend there restaurant either as a couple or to as many as 14 of us We always receive great tasting food and friendly service from all the guys there

Came here with a large group of friends this time food was superb as always. Naz looked after us as always great restaurant.

We ordered a take away for 17:45 but it wasn’t ready until 18:05 got it home to find one main was missing so we had to share 5 meals between 6 I emailed them the next day and the next but no response so scored 3 stars for poor customer service food was good

No tablecloth on just our table, poppadums were soggy, food took ages to come out, new staff so service mixed and items on the bill that we didn't end up getting. Takeaways were prioritised over those in the restaurant. However, the food when it eventually turned up was really good. There were 5 of us and we all agreed that we will not be going back.

Normally great food so happy to pay a little more eating here but ordered a takeaway tonight and missing a couple of bits and some of the chicken was a bit tough so fairly disappointed compared to previous experience

food good atmosphere ok .huge group so loud couldnt hear our own conversation at table why you wouldn't put a mens group down the end of resturant and out of way i dont understand food dishes for flavour was very very good ..but geez they know how to charge here .£12 for 8 popperdoms and chutney ? nearly fell of chair would i return prob not not because of food but prices are double of other local and good indian resturants £75 bill .2 drinks .popperdoms and a main plus veg

I had a meal with some friends who live locally. The staff were very attentive and the food was delicious. The atmosphere was just right and the table layout gave everyone in the resturant plenty of room to eat comfortably. We certainly will come back when we meet up together again.

Highly recommend. We were on holiday in Scotland and we always find an Indian restaurant when we go there . The food was fabulous the chicken tikka starter the portions were massive and so tender and all the dishes we ordered were unbelievable. We were made really welcome and would definitely visit if we were in the area again . There was 5 of us plus all drinks it was great price . 😀😃

1st time since 5 years ago, let's hope I don't leave it another five years! I and my bestie were well looked after, the food was lovely, except the bahjis were greasy. Was surprised the staff remembered me, and talked as if I had never been away. Costs were a little more than I expected, but all round a lively dinner, with a great friend. Will be coming back again soon. Thanks everyone.

Upon being seated the drinks came quickly. Then 45 minutes later still no one had taken our order, even the popadoms hadn't arrived, we were told you didn't say how many so I didn't bring any! After asking again to place our order it took another 50 minutes for something to arrive. The carpet was stained and covered with other peoples food as with the menu's had greasy marks all over. The side plate was dirty, when changed it just went back into the same stack.I would have walked out had it not been Eurovision on the TV and my partner wanted to stay. Our bill arrived before we had even finished our coffee but it was for another table. Food was acceptable but small portions In a nut shell just total disorganisation!

Me and my partner along side our mums went here on Mothering Sunday! We had the most amazing time, had a lot of laughs and Ajaz was great and delivered excellent service! And the food was next level! I went for the delicious Zafrani dish 🤤 highly recommend

Incredible hospitality. Dave, the owner is knowledgeable, personable and helps create a brilliant dining experience. The food was excellent and we actually found that due the quality of ingredients and quality of meats used by the restaurant compared to others locally that the dishes really stood out and you CAN taste the quality difference. We will certainly be back.

Food was amazing and staff very acomatating,there was a large group of us, one table of our group were cold because they had a wet table that had been left out side and they had a cloth on but this did not help. which was a shame the table of the group near the bar tended to leave the coats on as the door opening caused a draft this is the reason for rating down the atmosphere

Best Indian food for miles and very friendly staff

The restaurant is well laid out and very modern. From the moment we arrived we were made to feel very welcome and the staff were very attentive and pleasant. Our meal arrived in good time and we were very happy with the quality and portion sizes, the food was gorgeous and freshly cooked. The prices were just a little on the high side but am a northerner aka a tight git. There is lots of parking and there was no need to reserve a table, all in al a good experience.

Awful don't understand why this place gets so many good reviews been here twice ate in the restaurant the first time wasn't impressed thought I would give it another go with a takeaway and was left very disappointed again very poor oily and greasy . I've had better microwave curry's , won't be going back for a third time .

phoned up and food turned up 20mins later so you know its been already cooked and reheated. The girl messed up taking my details, then the food turned up without my naan and the lamb didn't taste like lamb at all. 36pound wasted. Never again.

I booked a table for 6 for 7pm for a birthday celebration. My friend arrived at 6.50 to be told I had been emailed to say we could only have the table for 1 hour and 15 min. Unfortunately this was a lie as I had only been emailed to confirm confirmation of my table. Disgraceful as they had accepted a group booking for 50 instead and forgotten to tell us. This has also happened at their “sister” restaurant as well when it was my 40th birthday. No loyalty whatsoever.

We had our first meal from this restaurant last weekend.This was a very disapointing meal.The meal took a while to arrive which was stated when we ordered.Some of the food was cold when we went to eat it .We had food missing from the order that was meant to be sent on after we phoned.This never turned up but we did have a further phone call offering a credit for a further order for the missing food had still not been sent out ,but they could not give the money back on my card.I feel they one this on every level by there own poor service.

I can never fault the food here, it’s very good. However, a new website and more activity on social media would have saved a trip. Me and my friends were on a specific budget and haven’t been local to the area for a long time. We decided to take the trip down to sandhurst to eat here, but was saddened to see banquet night stopped 2 years ago. I was shocked when I first came in to how quiet it was… Perhaps banquet night would increase your football again. But pleasant food as always.

Came here with some friends between Christmas and new Year. Food was pretty good with plenty of choice ( I had the Chicken Zafrani which was very mild) and relatively inexpensive. The restaurant was pretty busy and had a decent atmosphere - Cobra on draught too. The only drawback was that it seemed to take much longer than you would expect to get the food, at least 45 mins but maybe a bit longer. Otherwise the service was friendly, and prompt for drinks etc. Would come back here as it was good food.

Lovely food had a lamb madras meat tender spiced just right. Price is very reasonable. Great service

6 of us visited, food and service was outstanding.

Arrived at 9pm after a break away in Spain, to find the restaurant packed but Dave managed to get a table, albeit that we had to sit at the bar and have a couple of Cobras first, within 15 mins. Both had the fantastic Lamb Shally Patti. The food and service was as usual faultless, I always love the fact that although it's really busy and everyone's having to rush around that you never feel rushed and that Dave and everyone else always has time to have a chat, so good to have such a place as part of the community.

Had my first Indian food for over a year here tonight. Very nice meal. Had the Shelly Patti. One of the best I've had.

Great local Indian restaurant, very well established, with a wide range of dishes. Also does take out, collection or delivery. Always receive a warm welcome, and if they are busy, will give you a free drink if there's a delay on collection. And you can't say fairer than that!!

Friendly staff and tasty traditional food but a little on the pricey side. Lamb Balti was very tender and the Dhansak was a good blend of sweet and sour. Smallish but decent interior. Parking is available at the front.

Turned up without a booking at a busy time but we were soon sorted out. Service was friendly, attentive and efficient. Didn’t have to wait long for food. Food was delicious - fresh , well cooked and subtle flavours. Recommend the Shenai Tarka - lovely

Went on a Friday night in tier 2 lockdown and cannot praise the staff and Dave enough. All Covid restrictions in place and the service,food and drinks were spot on. The fact that the restaurant owner takes the time to personally talk to the customers makes you feel a little special. Highly recommend it.

We've been going to the Shenai for a few years now and would thoroughly recommend the restaurant. The food is generally first rate, nicely presented and very tasty. The owner obviously takes great pride in his restaurant and does his best to ensure all his customers are happy.

The food is delicious, and the menu has a good variety of dishes from mild to spicy palettes. I particularly enjoyed the Duck Tikka starter. The staff at the Shenai are very friendly and provide excellent service.

Great meal. Fantastic value. Good social distancing, screens between tables makes you feel very safe Really enjoyed the meal. Great service.

This place is great restaurant with amazing food had to come two nights in a row. The food is so good staff are fantastic friendly polite and can’t do enough for there customers. I will be coming back again the food is delicious

Lovely meal and the waiter/owners paid good attention

Never Again, went there yesterday fo a take away and won’t be back again. When I got home the food was Luke warm (2 minute drive), the actual portion of curry was half of the container and it was so bland it’s unreal. As we were both hungry we had little choice but eat it and I’m not going to throw money away again for such rubbish food. It all looked like it was put together from ingredients from a packet and not freshly prepared.

Went to the restaurant with friends was dissappointed as we were overcharged for drinks - questioned at the time but was no co-operative nor willing to listen to our views and this has happened on several occasions

Onion bhaji’s not the best, doughy, not crispy, good poppadums, nice condiments, crispy side salad, onion salad and chutney’s were pleasant. Mains King Prawn Sag, tasty, good size prawns, really good tarka dhal, thick and full of flavour. Vegetable sides were cooked well and balanced flavour. The paratha’s were disappointing, too thick and doughy.Not the most amazing meal but certainly not the worst. The customer service was excellent, easy ordering, gentleman on the phone had a pleasant telephone manner and made me feel welcome and valued.

Friendly staff, restaurant is always immaculately clean, menus have very good choices and is cooked and presented well. Be prepared to wait as all food is freshly cooked. Would recommend .

One of the best curry houses around. Since moving to Basingstoke and searching high and low for a local alternative. We have given up searching and just return to Dave's for a quality meal everytime.

Haven't been here since last December but don't know why a sthe food is excellent. My duck tikka was super. So tasty with good spices. They served me a chicken passanda instaed of a lamb but quickly realised and chnaged it. The fish bhuna was great too. As usual the staff were very friendly and nothing was too much trouble.

This restaurant is defintely one of my favourites. Great choice, not your standard fayre. Staff friendly and just right for attention. always well cooked and spices/sauce just right. the Chicken Chaat and Duck Tikka were excellent. Good Papadoms and sauces. My main of Fish Bhoona was truly great, mix up with Lamb Pasanda (we got Chicken), replaced and very apologetic, this was really good, the chicken was bland though. We had Brindjal Bhaji and Mushroom Rice to accompany the meal. Great atmosphere, good food and excellent service, well done. A couple of large Merlots and a pint of Kingfisher. £70.95.

The food took 2 hours to be delivered, in fact, it wasn’t even delivered as we had to pick it up it took so long - this was only because they took the phone off the line so no one could speak to them as they were so busy! They forgot most things so we had to return within 5 minutes and wait to receive our actual order! Turns out one of the curries also didn’t have a lid applied correctly and was enjoying its freedom inside a larger bag of enclosed, although still somehow cold, curries!I don’t want to be to harsh to be honest as the chaps in the restaurant seemed alright, except an old fella who was very reluctant to handle our complaint! After all of the nonsense of the above I was actually looking forward to eating but I’d rather not go into detail about the lack of quality and standard this food managed to hit! Would of had a far better time eating nothing as at least I could then imagine something that tastes nice. AVOID AVOID AVOID

3rd visit to this restaurant, just moved to Sandhurst in September , first visit, very good, loved it, second visit, far too much spice in the chicken Ceylon, hard to eat. 3rd and final try this evening. Asked for chicken Ceylon not to be over spiced. All good until visiting the ladies toilet, sensor on toilet does not flush and no soap. Asked for soap and after some discussion between staff, some meagre watered down soap was retrieved from the gents, I declined the offering and used hand gel from my bag instead.One of the staff returned triumphantly from the shop nearby with 2 bottles of liquid soap. Apparently both Men’s and ladies loos had soap in the morning and a customer had watered it down in the gents that day? I asked where the kitchen staff went to the toilet and apparently they have separate facilities with soap so maybe ask to use their toilet next time you are there if the customer loos disappoint. I made it clear I wasn’t Impressed, the flush on the toilets has a knack apparently so hopefully they will induct all future customers on its use.We have been valued customers at an Indian restaurant in a nearby town for 21 years and have never experienced service like this, we will take a taxi there next time. Basic hygiene is non negotiable.Others may love it here but NO SOAP, NO THANK YOU!

Daughter was staying over as she is flying out of Heathrow tomorrow. missed her text that said anything but "curry", whoops. Been here a few times and never been let down. good menu, very friendly staff. The Tamarind dip with the poppadums was really good, poppadums were large. Starters were good as was the mains. I always gravitate to the "chefs specials" for something different, the lamp shenai xxxx was really good the sauce excellent and tender lamb. My daughter went for a king prawn dish that she said was excellent. Portion sizes were good, nice Kingfsher for me and a couple of White wines for daughter. Not cheap but excellent value at £57.

I used to live in Sandhurst, but moved away about 7 years ago (the Shenai was my local Indian restaurant) We booked a table for 10.00 p.m. as we were meeting for drinks first. When we got there it looked like they'd had a bit of a makeover (although it was always well looked after) They still had my favourite starter on the menu (nargis kebab) which is only normally found in the midlands, and still tasted as good as ever. I had a main dish from the chefs specials (sorry, can't remember the name) but the chicken was so fresh and tender - possibly the best I've had in a curry ! Also, unique to their menu is chilli rice - the first time I ever had it was in there, and quite often, in other restaurants, I ask them if they can make it for me (which they do, but it's never as good as the Shenai) My wife had lamb chops and she said it was the most tender lamb she's ever had in a curry. All of the staff in there are very friendly and do more than take orders and serve food - they take the time to chat and make sure you've got everything you need.Cant wait for my next time to visit friends there.

Ex work colleagues and I use this as a mutually convenient venue to meet up 3-4 times a year Never been let down with either the welcome or the cuisine, always treated like old friends

So ordered a curry for my wife and I. We don’t eat out much as expensive. Chicken Dansak x1, rice x2 korma sauce x1, 3 popadom and peshwai naan. I collected. Was greeted well a gentleman that worked there held the door and asked my name, advised would be 20 minuets. Not a problem I thought as I was early. Sat down and waited, was then greeted by fly’s that stayed for my entire 20 minute wait time? I was politely given my order and set home to enjoy. Dished the food up, was given x3 rice? Korma sauce was very runny like a yellow water? The Dansak had hard uncooked lentils? It also mentioned on their website any order over £25 would receive free onion baji? None in the bag, maybe I miss read. I checked the receipt and noticed I was charged for x2 rice as I expected but was still confused why I had 3? I checked the online menu and to my frustration read with a Dansak you have rice included. Why was I not advised this? I didn’t need the extra rice, would of been nice to not waste my money and I would have appreciated the honesty. Instead the rice went in the bin followed by most of our order. I just feel more care should be put into the quality to meet expectations. If I had sat in an eaten, I would of sent it back. My fault as I couldn’t be bothered to drive the 3 miles to swap or call and waste the remainder of my evening explaining your standards had not been fulfilled.

We came down to Sandhurst to eat at the Shenai which is the sister Indian to Kabirs in Crowthorne . It has a totally different concept to Kabirs so was a good experience as we tried out food that we knew was regularly served at Kabirs as we frequently visit.

Friendly, helpful staff and food is cooked to a high standard. Recommended to book in advance, especially on a weekend. Restaurant can get busy sometimes and it's recommended when busy that you not on a deadline as can be waiting sometimes longer than expected. But the food is worth the wait.

Cannot say enough about this place - they make you feel so welcome from the moment you walk in the door to the moment you walk out, the food is amazing, and the service is second to none (nothing is too much for these guys!).

My brother and I have eaten here on quite a few occasions now and the food and service have been consistently good and they will prepare dishes that are a tailored to suite your particular requirements, with good advice offered by the experienced staff. Highly recommended

Turned up for Sunday buffet after reading online that they offered it and it was even advertised on their menus but they said they no longer offer it? They need to update the website to mention that

You won't see a response from the owner on this honest review. This it seems a true reflection on the level of customer value to the restaurant. The food is good here however, only on a couple of occasions has the food been below par which in my own opinion shows the kitchen is in order and compliments to the chef. The chicken palong is a great dish from the Shenai and always consistent. Unfortunately the service is consistently bad, being made to feel like an unvalued customer certainly leaves a bitter taste. The simple fact that the owner will very kindly copy and paste a generic thanks to all the good reviews but not apologise to any negative feedback highlights the poor management of the service and lack of acknowledgement of unhappy customers. Fear not there are more fine Indian cuisines in the area so not all lost. This review is the result of more than one occasion of a bad experience so in my opinion fair. Please take on criticism acknowledge bad service and value customer service and maybe apologise on a bad review or two, the potential of this restaurant is very high to be excellent.

We have been to Shenai for over 2 years and this is the first time I checked the reviews and was shocked at the negative comments here and there. It is never bad but sometime it is only very good, not excellent . I find the service very friendly and honestly sometimes slow, because they do cook fresh food and the takeaway service impacts.
