A proper pub/restaurant in West Haddon. Our first visit on Thursday evening, met by welcoming and friendly staff. How good to see a menu of interesting and diverse dishes. And it did not disappoint. We had starter of Ham Hock Terrin, followed by the Beef short rib and The Brisket pie both with fresh vegetables. All well cooked and presented by an obviously competent kitchen. Everything was exellent. The food and drinks were very competitively priced and the whole place had a good vibrant atmosphere. We will be back soon to try some of the other mouth watering dishes.

This is a phenomenal pub. I travel 10 miles to get here because it’s better than any other pub that I could go to. Lovely cosy pub, great staff but standout food that’s way ahead of what a typical gastro chucks out. I’m a seasoned gastropub visitor of 20 years and this place has it nailed!

Excellent dinner last evening and such friendly & welcoming staff. This small village pub/restaurant from the outside seems quite ordinary, however all is not what it seems! Such an enjoyable & relaxed dining experience. Menu had an excellent choice to suit most requirements & very good value for money. Plates all well presented and plentiful with each course that was simply delicious! We will be back!

Great food. Great service. Great decor. The duck to share, the single muscle rump to share, and the tapas are all superb. Revisited August 2024 (and plenty of times in-between), and always fantastic food at The Sheaf. Bao buns, whitebait, bang bang mushrooms, beef sort rib, peri chicken thighs, blade of lamb, beef and ale pie.....all delicious. Basque cheesecake and sticky toffee sundae amazing to finish. Best place to eat for miles around.

Liked the place. Nice choice of beers, and guest ones change every week or so. Average prices for Northamptonshire, £4+ per pint. Olde worlde with low ceilings and intimate small rooms. Friendly staff, although I was surprised at last orders at 10.40pm on Wednesday! Food is rated as good (by carnivorous colleagues) but I didn't try anything veg*n. They have a good value (dairy) cheese night on a Tuesday.

Went here for a birthday meal on a Saturday night. Table had been booked three months in advanced yet we arrived for our booking to be told the table wasn’t ready and the had to wait 45minutes before we were seated, at a table that had obviously been squeezed in (all I can assume is they had used my table for other people) The staff members that were working front of house were lovely and obviously very busy. We were only asked once through the whole meal if we wanted to order more drinks so the business lost out there as we would normally of had many more than we did. When we can to order all of us wanted the sirloin but we’re informed there were not enough left (run out of steak on a Saturday night!). I can’t fault the food it was delicious and the staff members were very friendly. However I would not book here again. The restaurant was very cramped and the whole experience was a disappointment.

First ever visit (7/23) to this gastro pub with a visiting friend. Varied menu with pub classics and more expensive specials. We both had sirloin steaks from the specials which were high quality and well cooked. They were served with mushroom, tomato and a sauce (choice of four). The (additional cost) sides of triple-cooked chips (me) and Greek salad (my friend) were also excellent. A decent pint too. Recommended.

A friend recommended this place. It was great. We arrived and were a little surprised it was a tapas night, but it seemed to be based around their normal menu. We had some lovely dishes most memorable was the duck taco and the sweet potatoes with saracha. All very tasty. The staff were attentive but not over bearing. We even received a complementary dish as an apology for not being advised when booking it was a tapas night. We will be returning when there is a normal menu on. Slight downside was we were sat in a very large room on our own for quite a while, so atmosphere was quite. The rest of the customers were sat in the front which was very busy.

Lovely little pub, the staff were very friendly, helpful and attentive. The food was excellent. I am a foodie, and i will definitely be returning. I had the burger, which was delicious, but the fish and chips a couple in our party had looked and smelled amazing. All were happy. There were a few of us in for dinner, and whilst we had a little time to wait, it gave us time to chat and it was definitely worth it as we all had our food arrive at the same time nice and hot. My only complaint is that i didn't have room for dessert, but my waistline was grateful for that. It's definitely worth a visit.

First visit here since the currant landlord took over and after hearing nothing but rave reviews was left a little disappointed. First off the transformation from how the pub looked from the last time I visited was outstanding it looks modern and cosy and welcoming and I'm sure the addition of the outside seating is great on warmer nights. We where greeted in a friendly manner and showed to our table but after this the service wasn't great. The waitress didn't ask how steaks were meant to be cooked until after we brought it up, felt a little slow and inattentive especially as there where only four tables in the dining room. I massively appreciate that when staff are wearing masks it's hard for them to get a bit of personality across and make it feel special but tonight it felt particularly robotic. It also to ok a while for our drinks to arrive that we ordered when the main courses started to arrive in fact we had almost finished the mains. They seemed to be following all the covid guidelines well but at no point did we get the "please could you wear a mask while moving around the pub" speech that is pretty much the new normal at the moment. But unfortunately it was the food we felt the most disappointed with. The pork belly starter the pork was dry like it had been cooked originally at a to high temperature or reheated for to long. This was excentuated by there only being two very small smears of the apple source and the top of the belly being trimmed of all the fat and skin that would help keep it moist. Compared to the other starters of the chicken Bao bun and the halloumi it also looked pretty small when next to them and extra little tiny square of pork and spear of asparagus wouldn't have made it feel overly genourous. For the mains we had the slow braised venison. Venison very dry and bland was dying for some of that braising liquor to be reduced and mixed back through the meat to keep it moist and give it a bit more flavour. The beetroot was a under done but not inedible, the mash was the best part beautifully seasoned and smooth. The gravey however if you are going to be pretentious enough to call it a whitly Neil jus it's got to taste better than a weak bisto which unfortunately it did. The picanha steaks where both pretty tough to the point we had to ask for steak knives to cut them. The tempura on the mushrooms was tough and chewy not light and crisp. The "truffle" and thyme chips had no flavour of truffle on them and were not particularly great chips. The puddings the brownie was not a brownie it was warm chocolate cake and the sticky toffee pudding was more of a toffee sponge then a traditional toffee pudding neither where good. Portion sizes where good (apart from the pork starter looking a third of the size of the rest), you could get three courses comfortably but didn't feel small either. If it had all been executed a little better it would definitely feel great value for money to probably slightly cheaper than most the good food pubs in this part of Northamptonshire. The beer was also well kept and it seems like they regularly change them. I was also impressed with the amount of local produce on offer. I hope the Sheaf takes this as somewhat positive critasism I am aware I have been particularly harsh but having heard nothing but great things it for me did not live up to it. That said with a little more training out front and attention to detail in the kitchen I don't think it would take much for them to be a 5 star pub.

I often go to pubs and the food is majorly over-priced and you're left disappointed but Ive been 3 times to the Sheaf in the last couple of months, and every single time it's exceeded expectations.Always friendly service , with a great range of drinks on tap, and the meals are really well sized, but great quality. We went on Sunday for their roast - we all had something different - beef, pork and lamb shank - and every single meal was good. Too full for puddings but definitely not complaining there. The only thing Id say would be to serve Salt and Pepper in grinders as I'm not so keen on the 'open' approach, even before Covid.Well done guys - always a great experience :)

We went for a very dear friends birthday, just the two of us to get some catch up time away from our own jobs in the uncertain world of hospitality in these very strange times. I’d popped in earlier in the day and also spoken to Luke the Landlord, about a couple of personalised requests. All were followed to the letter and to the highest standards. The venue itself is both modern/contemporary but very cosy and traditional in equal measures. The log fire really sealed the deal for us. Very tastefully decorated in a welcoming way, like a nice warm hug from a long lost friend. The food was to die for. Fabulously presented and melt in the mouth. I had the venison which was literally sourced from about a mile away. Service from the front of house staff was attentive and interactive without being intrusive... Luke even came and introduced his new and youngest member of the team to us (covid safe) and we got all the smiles and giggles from such a bonnie baby .With these uncertain times it was reassuring to see all Covid-19 safety measures were above and beyond but without being too clinical or militant. Everyone was compliant but without it seeming forced. It was refreshing to see all rules were being adhered to without the ‘barking’ of orders we’ve seen from some venues recently. I’d would highly recommend The Sheaf to anyone wanting outstanding food (all sourced very locally), brilliant and caring staff that know exactly how to follow covid protocol without making you feel like you are being dictated to. Thank you to The Sheaf... you guys hit every nail on the head. (Btw, I’m totally in love with your napkins)

As a family group of six, we visited for a Saturday lunch in August. We were warmly welcomed and shown to a nice table. The whole place was very quiet but probably because the Mo-We ' Eat out to help out' scheme was running. Because it was quiet it did lack atmosphere a little but for the reasons above, I'm sure it would be different of an evening. Food was very good, the only criticism of my beef ragu dish would be that it needed the option of more Parmesan and a piece of garlic ciabatta on the side would of improved it! It was however really good. Some of the party had fish and chips which were excellent. Two of the party had burgers. The burgers were great, again only criticism here were that it was just served with salad leaves, salad leaves are such a disappointment! I like to see a side salad bursting with tomatoes, cucumber, red onion etc. Leaves are boring, just a suggestion as again it would improve the overall quality and presentation of this dish. Starters were great and the fresh bread and butter are a lovely touch. If we came back for lunch it would be nice to see salads and sandwich options on the menu although it was explained to us that because of the covid thing, they are currently running a reduced menu, understandable. Service from the chap serving was great, he was very friendly and accommodating.I liked it here and although it didn't blow me away I would come back, probably not at lunch, I would try it in the evening next time.

All staff were very friendly and they were all wearing a mask, going that extra mile to keep people safe. Had a great Sunday Lunch with my husband on Sunday 3rd November 24. The white wine was also very nice and chilled in nice tall stem glass. Lovely tasty meat, I had the pork and my husband had the chicken very good thank you.

The best Moules a la Creme outside Brussels but for one thing, it was described as Moules Mariniere which it most definitely wasn,t. But the mussels were big, juicy, succulent in a cream sauce to die for. Pity the Chicken Kiev had no garlic butter AT ALL. And when I asked to talk to the chef to congratulate him on his mussels he never came - the difference between a family resturant and a commercial one. What a pity.

The Staff at The Olive Branch always have a smile and they are volunteers. Nothing is too much trouble and they always make us feel welcome. The Homemade Cakes look delicious and the large Cheese Scones are always eaten by my friends. In the colder weather my friends usually have their soup and I always see someone in there eating a Full English Breakfast at lunchtime.

We visited the outdoor restaurant and pizza bar. The bar area had a really nice holiday vibe where you could sit outside overlooking a stunning showjumping arena. The staff were very friendly who quickly served us and took our food order. We had soft drinks and vegetarian burgers, with chips and homemade slaw. It was delicious and competitively priced. We'll definitely return soon, even if to just drink and take in the atmosphere.

Granny's has amazing food, service, and atmosphere. The skillets, omelettes and pancakes are the best in town!
