The Shakespeare Inn in Shropshire

Two of us visiting for the first time today for their Sunday roast and I can honestly say we were not disappointed. The portion size was generous to say the least. The beef was tender, the roasties huge and crispy, and Yorkie and veg selection was on point! We're definitely going to become regulars!

Really atmospheric old pub in the heart of Bridgnorth. Lovely roaring fireplaces, really friendly staff and great prices. Large seating area out in the courtyard, too. Great little find.

Came here for an amazing Sunday Roast Dinner on a very cold wintery Sunday lunchtime. I have been to Bridgnorth many times but not this pub. I was sat next to an open fire , drinking pristine Joules ale and wondering why!! The pub has lots of separate areas, is very traditional and friendly. The staff service was attentive and excellent. There is a large outside courtyard at the rear with a covered area which would be great for the summer. We both had Roast beef dinner, Yorkshire, Roasties, lots of seasonal vegetables. Cooked perfectly. Top tip..probably don't eat for a couple of days before. The portions were huge! Thoroughly recommend and will go again.

Despite being very quiet the pub had a really lovely atmosphere. A log fire on a cold winters evening is perfect to look at and listen to and warm you up at the same time. A proper pub. It was like going back in time and pubs like this are so important to ensure we keep.

Warm, friendly pub with some higher end food choices. Joules Slumbering Monk is worth a visit by itself. We went on a Saturday night in November and it wasn't too busy at 7pm. The staff were great, bring drinks to the table and full table service for food too. I had the pork belly and found the meat and mash tasty. My wife liked her fish and chips too. We will be back!

Popped in for an afternoon drink after a walk. Sunday dinners looked and smelled amazing wil be returning soon to try one!

Lovely old pub. Fantastic service, when they ask if you want anything you really feel they want they to get you whatever you want. Food was delicious. Chicken in a garlic and sun dried tomato sauce and beef rib were both absolutely terrific. And they serve really great beer too. Absolutely recommended.

Joules pubs always have great service, and this one is no different. The food was really nice and was a decent portion. Sophie who served us was great, she was really attentive and seemed to really care about our experience. The pub has a great atmosphere.

I could spend the whole day here .. The choice of Ale is great in flavour and the steak and ale pie is just superb. Add to that great welcomkng staff for all pepole well it's a must go ..don't miss.

Old world charm in every way fine ales served by knowledgeable staff ...we also had a history lesson about the building which was very interesting ....filled with nick knacks, period painting and fittings ...beamed ceilings etc making for a brilliant atmosphere well recommended ×××××

We hired the Boat House at the Shakespeare in Bridgnorth for a private function. Despite it being an extremely busy Saturday afternoon, Marie and her team did us proud. The buffet was exceptional, catering for all tastes, preferences and ages, and the staff friendly, professional and responsive. I cannot rate the pub and their generosity highly enough - the venue was perfect for our event and we had a wonderful afternoon. Thank you Marie! Xx

A different pub from the last time I visited. Preferred the old pub, but having gone upmarket the pub is still nice.

First visit to a gem of a traditional pub in the heart of this historic town. Great steak and chips in a convivial setting. A return visit will be necessary.

Always busy here and clear to see why. Wonderful building and outside cobbled space. Joules brewery on tap, food menu looked great. We didn't eat on this occasion but we have before. Be prepared for huge portions! Families and dog friendly. Staff very warm and welcoming.

Absolutely brilliant pub 👏 we both had something off the light bites on the menu . Salmon chilli and lime fishcakes they were lovely 😍. The staff were attentive and friendly and a credit to the landlady. We will definitely go back here ... also very good value for money

This place stands out from a lot of pubs. They have decent ales and tasty food. I particularly enjoyed a pint of their "Slumbering Monk" - to say it was full of flavour is a bit of an understatement! We were a party of four and went for dinner on a Saturday night. I have to say the service was impeccable - honestly far above what you get in a lot of restaurants. Tap water was provided without question (unlike many places which seem to object even if you are buying drinks as well). Every member of staff went above and beyond and you really did feel valued as a customer.

Part of the Joules Brewery chain this is a little gem of a find in Bridgnorth. Food was superb, worth the wait (not a criticism!), especially the beef in ale pie (a large, real pie, not a bowl if stew with a top), with tasty veg. Fish and chips ordered by the wife was great, especially the chips and homemade tartar sauce. Beers good, and service if all the staff was, I have to say, exemplary, with one person passing us in the street 40 mins later smiling and saying "see you again" - thoroughly recommended experience

The service was 10/10 lovely woman who served us, loved the beer too! 👍🏻

Dog friendly busy pub would suggest booking for Sunday lunch to avoid disappointment. Great ale too, just a nice place to spend a couple of hours.

Had the steak pie can honestly say that I've not had a better one, my wife had fish and it was amazing couple that with a great pint and friendly staff. I would highly recommend it.

Great lunchtime pub. A nice place to visit when in Bridgnorth. I had the burger and it was excellent. The beer is perfect and well kept. I highly recommend the Joules Slumbering Monk. A nice dark malty beer. Full bodied and compliments any decent lunch.

You require a Labrador to go in the tap room. Green monkey larger is superb

Nice pub. Opens at 12 on Saturday and we were the 2nd in. Just managed to get a table as a lot were already reserved. Good selection of meals on offer plus a range of ales. Not aware if they do snacks, such as cobs or sandwiches. Staff are friendly and serve you quickly. They don’t mind dogs. There’s an outside seating area for when the weathers ok. There seems to be a private room to one side of the courtyard that I’ve never seen used. Lots of people disappointed today that there was no room.

Fantastic service and amazing food, not to mention the lovely and delicious range of beers. It's absolutely worth a visit if you're in the beautiful town of Bridgnorth and looking for some top quality food and very reasonable prices and all this is set in a lovely old pub just of the main high street. 10 out of 10...

Rang up and booked a table for Saturday lunchtime. Really glad we did, as this place is busy! It was our first visit, but The Shakespeare is clearly a popular choice for locals and visitors to Bridgnorth, and so it should be! A cosy pub, great atmosphere, friendly staff, decent grub and nice ales on tap - it ticked all the boxes. It’s dog friendly too. We shall most definitely be returning!

Had a brilliant time. We didn't gave food, so just to keep the 5 stars I have put it at 5. The staff are super friendly and its so homely. I would absolutely recommend for a family day out.

Busy Saturday between Christmas and New year, popped in for a drink and lunch. Quite reasonably were informed the kitchen isn't taking orders for 90mins. So had a drink and planned to go elsewhere, just as we were leaving, 30mins later, another group arrived and were allowed to order lunch, neither of us had booked. Better communication would have helped. Notwithstanding this beer was in good nick from Joules.

Only ever had drinks here, but food that had been served around looked good.

Having popped into the Shakespeare when visiting my parents who live in Bridgnorth, we sat down for a drink at 1:20pm, table said reserved at 2pm. With 20 minutes left until the reservation, and not long after ordering our drinks and sitting down, a member of staff (lady with short grey bob hair) came over and rudely asked us to remove ourselves and leave with a very obvious passive aggressive smile. When wanting to query the time frame she walked off and ignored us. It appears to me that The Shakespeare is for ‘regulars only’ and if you want a warm welcome, I would avoid this pub and visit the many other pubs in Bridgnorth who are very accommodating even to ‘blow-ins’

Well what can I say. First time here and it’s amazing. Bridgnorth’s own golden gem. If I could buy a season ticket for this place I would. Best Sunday lunch I’ve had for a long while. Really fresh and cooked to perfection. The turkey was perfect and moist and the roast beef was sublime. Wow this place is truly special. Thanks to the chef and the management and staff. I WILL be back

Beautiful old pub, lots of character and history, staff are lovely, food is amazing, the atmosphere was a little too loud to be comfortable with especially if you have special needs, but it's not always like this, week days are quieter, I really enjoy coming here, will most definitely keep coming back. Prices are reasonable too.

Staff friendly and welcome to us and dogs

From the moment we walked into the pub to the moment we left we where greeted by a friendly and welcoming team. Who where second to none and could not be faulted . The pub was a cozy and full of character and with a large beer garden at the heart of the pub . With a great selection of Ales, beers and ciders on offer. The food was beautiful and freshly cooked on site and with a generous portion. As well as an absolutely Bostin pie. Would highly recommend it.

Sunday lunch today for hubby & me,(27th August 2023)..fantastic pub,great service,lovely & friendly, food was plentiful & delicious,only criticism food could of been a bit warmer but enjoyed it otherwise

The menu and food were a wonderful surprise. The menu had Italian feel to it and the chicken breast in a velouté sauce that I has was fabulous. Our waitress was friendly and helpful and it was great to see the chef when he brought our our main courses. Give the Shakespeare a visit. We were so pleased we did!

Lovely pub that we dropped into for lunch recently and which I realised I'd last visited 41 years ago! The bar and waiting staff were really friendly and the food quality was as good as I've eaten anywhere over the last few years, was well cooked and well presented. Even though the place started getting busy with the lunchtime rush at no point were we made to feel like we had to move on. Also got to mention the Joules beers - their pale ale went down too smoothly. We'll definitely be back.

We had a day trip to Bridgenorth. While there wa were kindly shown to the Shakespeare by a lovely local guy. We were very pleasantly surprised by what a wonderful friendly pub it is. Our party of 4 plus my son's dog Ruby. Really enjoyed the 4 meals we ordered. The steak was sublime. I had the rump an my hubby had the steak & onion ciabatta. I had yummy chunky chips & salad with mine. While hubs had fries. My son & daughter in law had the fish & chips. Which were devine The fish was so light with lovely NON greasy bubbly batter. We were so impressed. Not only by the wonderful food. The staff were so friendly an welcoming. Even Ruby was welcomed an shared my yummy steak & chips lol. We will definitely be going back soon. Very nice joules pub in upper Bridgnorth. Several joules ales and a guest on when I visited. It’s a joules so expect snugs and beams etc. friendly staff and regulars. Large outside area. Recommended for a pint 🍺

The Shakespeare is a Joules pub and is typical of that slightly quirky vibe that similar hostelries possess. Nice outdoor drinking area.

Both meals we've had here, from all the times we've eaten out on Bridgnorth, have been by FAR the best meals we've had anywhere that I can remember over the last year or so. I had the Scottish Trout on bed of feta/sweet pepper. Absolutely heavenly.
