Wanted to try here for lunch on Sunday. Beer was the best thing, unhurried service. Pretty mean veg portions, not very tasty. Good location but the room was cold and no-one seemed to know how to light the fire. There are better places to eat in the area.

We recently stayed at Shady Campsite for our annual August family camping trip, with over 20 of us in the group. The campsite exceeded our expectations! We had a great mix the views of Beeston Castle from our spot,,, simply breathtaking. Between camping games, a bit of fishing, and just enjoying the beautiful scenery, everyone had an amazing time. On Sunday, we all booked in for lunch (a group of 20+), and I have to say, the service was exceptional. Despite the large group, the staff were attentive, friendly, and made sure everyone had what they needed. The food was fantastic, and we had a great time with drinks and laughs all around. While it was a bit on the pricey side, the quality of service and the experience more than made up for it. Overall, Shady Campsite is a perfect spot for family trips, and we can’t wait to come back again next year!

This was actually a hilarious lunch out so thanks for that😂😂man behind the bar scoffed at my friend for asking for a cheese sandwich, then proceeded to not give her the chips she asked for (chips were inedible so that was for the best tbh) then the woman moaned at how many of us were ordering food, bare in mind the place was deserted and we spent £75 between us LOL felt unwanted from the minute we sat down definitely avoid, the Swann inn up the road would be a much better choice!

If you want a friendly pub that does excellent food, then come to the Shady Oak! Eaten here many times and never had any issues. Hubby had minted lamb, such a big portion and cooked perfectly, I had peri peri chicken, lovely and spicy and moist, son and his girlfriend had chicken stack, was absolutely massive!! Excellent value for money. Would highly recommend this pub. Paul and Leon do a fantastic job. All credit them and the staff!!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Parking is easy with its own car park. Nice views across the Goyt Valley, nice to see a buzzard flying overhead. You can if you wish stay the night at the B&B. They also have a campsite. Mobile signal in this area can be a bit touch & go, but they do have WiFi We popped in on our way home after a shopping trip. Gluten free options available if you ask. Vegetarian options also available Mrs Dogwalker went for the cheese, onion and potato pie (gluten free), fries came with skin on, possible time to change the oil in the fryer. I opted for the rump steak, rare. This was quite a plate, 8 oz rump steak, chips again skin on, possibly cooked in a different fryer, fried tomatoes, mushrooms and garden peas. Pretty standard pub grub. Mrs DW really enjoyed her homity pie. Good range of beers, including Heineken 0% on draft. So if you're driving, that's an option. The food and a pint of 0% Heineken and Timothy Taylor Landlord. £40

The lady looking after the pub was lovely and so was the young man assisting so this a review for the owners of the pub. I thought £5+ was overpriced for a beer £3.50 would have been nearer the mark. If pubs want trade then they need to reflect the price average people can afford.

I chose this place for a stopover on my way from Scotland to my home in Sussex. It is an old pub which has a very few rooms. The landlord was very welcoming and friendly and some people were enjoying a late Sunday roast meal. My room was large and comfortable and I had a huge bathroom. Both rooms had windows overlooking the rolling countryside of the Peak District. I had a huge plateful of Sunday roast which really hit the spot. This is a good old fashioned type of pub/bred and breakfast. The full English breakfast was excellent and set me up for the drive ahead.

A wonderful find as we travelled towards Buxton, having negotiated countless motorways from Leeds! We entered from an overcast and wet journey to the welcome of a blazing fire and the warm hospitality of High Peaks' staff. Tabitha and Izzy delivered two lovely dishes from their 'Favourites' Menu. Pub food, at its best: genenerous portions, piping hot and absolutely delicious. I had the Steak & Kidney Pie - with rich gravy and veg. My wife had the Mixied fish stew - the best she has tasted (and that includes those luxiurious dishes in SW France. Well done to the chefs and serving staff - you made our lunchtime memorabl eand deserve the the acolade you get in Alistair Sawday.
