The Shack in Central Bedfordshire

I was looking forward to trying here for the first time. We booked for New Year’s Eve and arrived on time and then had to wait for our table to be cleared. The restaurant was pretty busy with a lot of little kids making a racket and climbing all over the empty seats. Then after sitting down we were told that they had no beef dishes. A burger restaurant with no beef burgers is ridiculous. They had our phone number so should have let us know before we turned up so we could have had the chance to cancel and try and book somewhere else. I was very tempted to walk out but we would have been left in limbo with no time to find another restaurant. Several of us reluctantly had to order a chicken burger which was pretty good with plenty of chicken but virtually no salad in. Side dishes were ok apart from the coleslaw which was about the size of a large tablespoon for the price of £3.95. The feral kids made so much noise that we couldn’t even have a conversation at our table. Of course the blame should be directed at the parents but surely the management could have had a discrete word about the noise and asked them to not climb and bounce all over the furniture. The couple next to us expressed their relief after the families left. By this time we just wanted to pay the bill and go. Bad luck on our part but very disappointed with the management for firstly not letting us know about the very limited choice and not having a restaurant with a pleasant environment. Very unlikely to return.

Instead of concentrating only on the new premises in Biggleswade how about looking after the customers that have supported you the last few years.I was not impressed to drive from Luton to Barton last Friday 30th June to find the shop not open for business.Especially as you stated quite clearly you were reopening the Barton shop on Thu 29th June.

Fancied a burger and got a burger. And wow what a burger. Best burger I’ve ever had! I’ll be back for sure!

This is a great place to for burgers. They have one vegan which competes very well with the non-vegetarians ones. Now I need to go back in the afternoon for the cakes, etc.

Absolutely brilliant food, good portion sizes and value for money. It’s 100x better than Nando’s. Highly recommend! The tater tots are amazing!

Me and my friend visited with my two daughters as we had seen lovely pictures on Instagram. Staff were very friendly and prompt as soon as we entered The Shack. Once we ordered, our food didn’t take long to arrive and it was delicious! 100% recommend if you want a good burger! My two girls loved the milkshakes too 😋 Will definitely be returning.

It took little while to come out due to how busy the lunchtime rush was. But the food was amazing. One of the best burgers I’ve ever had. My wife and stepdaughter loved their meals too. Well worth a visit.

Perfect lunch. Friendly welcoming service, fast food and a nice ambience. We had an ice cold strawberry and banana smoothie to drink which came with a satisfying thick straw and a big cup. The double patty burger wasn’t too big as the burgers were thin but delicious. The mini potatoes were mini hash brown bites - far nicer than chips for a change. Really good quality, tasty, high end diner The coleslaw came with a spring onion garnish. I really enjoyed everything and highly recommend.

Can’t believe it’s taken me this long to get round to trying this place. This review follows my second visit to be perfectly honest, but I had the same thing twice. I thought the first was a fluke and so wanted to test my theory. What resulted was noting short of a win win for me. If it didn’t meet expectations I still got to eat something tasty, if I was right… 😏 The “return of the mac” is a ridiculously good value item on their menu. To call it a “sandwich” is doing it an injustice to be frank. This thing could serve 2 people; looks like it has a whole chicken in it, and it’s £6. I live 2 miles up the road and the proximity may become an issuer because I am 100% going back! TL:DR - this place produces some incredible food, even if I did have the same thing twice! Plus they squeezed in an extra order after officially closing (don’t try this at home) which isn’t always the case with some restaurants. 5/5

My daughter aged 20 took me and the food was exceptional highly recommend the restaurant. Best burger I've ever tasted and it's local to Ampthill where we live .

After a walk in Barton nature reserve we wanted a quick meal. Not many places were open but we came across The Shack and it was ideal. Menu isn't particularly varied, a lot of burgers and sandwiches for main courses with standard sides, but we had delicious halloumi burgers, a lovely chicken burger, and perfectly cooked sweet potato fries. We ate outside on a lovely sunny evening. You don't need a lot of choice if the food is good. We couldn't manage a cake but would be happy to come back another time to try those too!

Stopped here for lunch. We had the chicken tenders and pancakes with berries and ice cream. The food is lovely and the portions large as we shared and were both full. One of those unexpected oasis. Just over £20 with drinks. Well worth it. Thank you

We’d heard about The Shack so thought we’d give it a try. Placed our order over the phone, given advice on the dishes available as we’d not been there before, really helpful. Very friendly staff and clean premises. Food is ample! Fries enough for two people, had I have known that we’d have shared. I had the dirty fries which I was disappointed about, the bolognese sauce was not bolognese, no thickness of tomato on there, effectively mince. However the Mighty Fine burger was a hit with my husband, not many places like this offer a good vegetarian choice. I had chick tenders with Sticky Situation drip, very good portion and enough for two. Dropped the leftover fries and chicken off to our son on the way home he throughly enjoyed them. Will definitely go back and try other selections from the menu.

We were in the area and stopped in here for a late lunch. OMG one of the best sandwiches we've ever had! Everything was seasoned really well. Great friendly service too. You guys deserve to do really well with this restaurant. Great food. Just wish we lived nearer!
