Well run park, zoo and gardens by East Riding Council. The Grange is worth looking around and the park and gardens were excellent with some amazing displays of flora. At £9.50 per person ( discounted if you pre-book on line ) it was inexpensive too.

What a wonderful place to visit, lovely gardens, a small zoo, activities for children, cafe and a wonderful house to look round. Owned by the Council and it is a massive credit to them. The gardens are very well maintained and quite splendid, the Monkey Puzzle trees are the largest in Europe I was told, quite magnificent. There is also within the walked garden a nursery where you can buy plants at very low prices grown by their own gardeners. There is an entrance fee, well worth it for everything there is to see and do there, take a picnic and spend the whole day.

We went for the first time after years of looking as we passed and were very happy with our experience. The young man serving, despite being over run with other tasks for the hotel, couldn't have been more polite and helpful. I wanted Chardonnay but they only Pinot Gigot and he took it almost personally that he wasn't able to provide what I had asked for. The starters were beautiful and very well presented and the pizzas - cooked onsite in a wood fired oven were delicious (and large). We ordered a side of chips to share which was not necessary as the pizzas were filling enough - and they offered a take home service for left overs. Would definitely go again.

Coming in from Bridlington on the left as one enters Sewerby Village. Well set back from the main road with ample parking. Old very large house now a hotel. Not the best of receptions in that greeted by a staff member who just gave us the key, told us the room number and that was that. Room good with all amenities and views out to sea. Toilet and shower a bit of a squash, more room needed. Complete contrast to arrival in that breakfast was excellent. Staff very friendly, helpful and accommodating. I enjoyed the visit and would definitely come again.

We booked this hotel as a base for a family visit at Christmas, previous reviews were a bit hit and miss so We thought we would jot down our honest thoughts about the property. It is a lovely period building which still retains a lot of period features unfortunately these include carpet and decorations with the entrance and stairway to rooms looking particularly tired. The staff on the whole were helpful and polite and despite being almost empty at this time of year seemed interested in their guests. We had a King room which was tired but spacious and it has to be said We slept much better than we usually do in an hotel thanks to the very comfortable bed, however as a previous reviewer commented a good nights sleep is helped by unplugging the fridge in the wardrobe as it makes an unholy row. Breakfast was good and the restaurant was pleasant with plenty of character overall the property is OK but is no more than a guest house or B&B. We would probably have found nothing negative to say had it been priced accordingly however we regularly use hotels when travelling and pay on average £120 to £130 per night with breakfast for a 4* hotel and get the usual benefits such as a bar, reception and room service all lacking at Sewerby Grange but the room rate was still £115 per night. Fine for reasonable hotel but not for an average B&B and there are any number of them with the same facilities and much closer to the town for almost half the price. So in our verdict is its OK but expect to pay hotel prices to stay in an average B&B would we stay again probably not as an hotel room is like any other purchase the cost should represent the value of the product

I rarely put negative reviews on here but after writing to Sewerby Grange twice without a reply, I feel that this time I must air my views. I along with a party of ladies went to the bistro to celebrate my birthday in July. The staff were appalling, rude and offhand. Our table was 'that one there', no one came to ask if we would like starters or drinks and we felt we were been rude when we asked at the bar for some service. The food was terrible, overcooked pasta and steak, food was served cold on hot plates. The lasagne was perhaps the worst I have ever had - cold in the middle and floating in a cream cheese sauce YUK. If only they could have been bothered to reply to my letters and emails, might have given them another chance.

Well where to start! Pizza and Pasta night, dirty glasses, crockery and cutlery in a wooden shed! Bar staff were offhand treated us as if we were a nuisance wanting to be served inferior drinks at hiked prices. As for the ladies lavatory nothing short of a porta cabin, cobwebs and flies adorned the windows and walls. Certainly won't be returning.

Was shocked to see the deterioration in this place from 2 years ago. The dining area is no longer smart with white linen, flowers and sparkling cutlery and glassware...but totally lacking in basic presentation. The cutlery was dirty and covered in finger prints. The glassware likewise. The staff seem untrained. I just wanted to walk out but was persuaded by the rest of the party to stay. The food was average except for the meat which was excellent. The cloakroom was dated with pink basins (1 cracked) and wooden toilet seats. Not especially clean. We spent 80 pounds on a party of 4 and feel we could have spent it better elsewhere. We will not return.

During our stay at Sewerby Grange, we ate in the restaurant in the grange as well as in the Bistro. The Bistro which is behind the manor house and specializes in pasta and pizza is an affordable restaurant with decent food and huge portions. The restaurant proper is brilliant! The owners opened it mid-week especially for a family dinner, since there were six of us who had converged for a reunion. Every dish cooked by the talented chef and owner Darren was superb. The Lobster Thermidor received top marks. Co-owner Amanda was a wonderful and thoughtful server. In the final analysis, including much pricier meals in London and Edinburgh, this was the best we had during our three-week trip to the UK.

A word of caution: this page for reviewing the restaurant at the Sewerby Grange Hotel seems to have got intertwined with photos and the odd review of Sewerby Grange itself. Sewerby Grange is nearby but it is not the place we visited, maybe check out the hotel review page for more accurate photos (sadly we didn't take any or I would have attached them to this review). The restaurant at the Sewerby Grange Hotel was an ideal place for a relaxing midweek lunch. We have dined here a number of times when we have been in the area, most recently yesterday when six of us went for lunch for a family get together. Plenty of choice on the menu at the set price of just £10.95 for 2 courses and, incredibly, £11.95 for 3!Being 'senior' in age we could only manage 2 courses so opted for main course and pudding. Everyone agreed that the food was just right: main courses were freshly cooked, piping hot, well presented with vegetables, potatoes and sauces/gray all served separately so that you could have as much or as little as your appetite allowed.Desserts were delicious with mum saying it was the best banoffee pie she had ever tasted. Excellent service throughout from a very competent lady who took all our needs and dietary requirements in her stride. Thank you, Stanley Grange Hotel & Restaurant for a lovely relaxing lunch.

There is indoor & outside seating. There are only a few gifts available to buy but there is a candle shop where you can make your own candle. The zoo is small but still a nice little extra at no extra cost. There are Lemurs, monkeys, Penguins. llamas alpacas & pigs. Also goats & several birds & parrots. I came for a Sunday lunch with three family members. We were greeted with a warm welcome by two young girls who gave excellent service but in the middle of the meal the four of us could hear one of the waitresses being shouted at by a chef, it would not surprise me if everyone else in the restaurant could hear which would have ruined their meal. The waitresses did an amazing job taking care of us so we were confused why. The food was in small portions for the absurd price and it was average. The furniture was tattered and not taken care of. This was a spur of the moment alternative to the traditional Sunday fare. The banner for the Mediterranean Bistro caught our eye whilst driving past so we drove in and looked for it! We found it round the back of the main Hotel in the grounds in what some might call a large garden shed! But don't let this keep you away as you'd miss out on the excellent (mainly Italian) food. We all plumped for Pizzas on this occasion, cooked in a traditional Pizza oven & none were dissapointed. Good food, served quickly, in courteus manner, if in somewhat quirky surroundings! Oh! And the bonus being it was Happy Hour, all Pizza & Pasta at £6. Result!

Sewerby Gange itself is a lovely place, in beautiful surroundings, for formal dining. However, if like us, you simply want a quick meal try their Bistro. During Happy Hour - weekdays until 7.30 - meals are only £6 each. They have a good selection of pasta & pizza dishes plus specials as alternatives. Our party chose pasta and pizza dishes and one had a chicken dish and all were pronounced excellent and very good value too. The service was efficient and friendly and it being a lovely summer evening we were able to enjoy our drinks outside on the patio overlooking the well kept garden whilst we waited for our choices to cook. One word of warning! The toilet facilities in the Bistro are up some awkward steps so not suitable for wheelchair users or people with mobility problems. They do seem very obliging so don't let that put you off as I'm sure you would be able to use the facilities in The Grange if necessary.

The restaurant is part of the Sewerby Grange Hotel but we only went for dinner with friends. The dining room is an odd shape with a bar separating the dining area from some comfortable seating to enjoy a drink while looking at the menu. I guess this is down to the age and size of the building. Service was friendly and attentive throughout but that may have been because it was only about half full. Starters were reasonably good but it was the fish on the main course which was stood out. My Dover sole virtually filled my plate, had been perfectly cooked and was obviously fresh. Two of the others in out partly had locally caught wild sea bass, again the fish was fresh, the size of the fillet was bordering on huge and it was delicious. Whoever the chef is certainly knows about seafood. The meal was served with plenty of fresh vegetables plus both new & roast potatoes. Only two of us had desserts and they were both home prepared, the choux pastry for my profiteroles was perfect. The selection of wine was reasonable and not excessive in terms of price. Despite our initial reservations about the room we really enjoyed our meal.

The Bistro at Sewerby Grange is basically a wooden chalet type building at the end of a partially walled garden to the rear of the hotel. Here there is a small bar and dining area with further outdoor seating and a pizza oven. The setting is very attractive, especially on a summer evening and the pizzas are superb, cooked to order in an oak fired oven with the very finest of ingredients. Faultless, mouth-watering pizzas. Possibly the best pizza I have ever had, set in very pleasant surroundings. But this is where it all falls apart!I have been here twice now and had a very similar experience each time....gorgeous pizza, unwelcoming almost rude staff. On our latest visit we were told we possibly couldn't be served as a large party was due to arrive (the bistro was still open though with lots of empty tables). As we turned to walk away the waitress said "go on then, take a seat and I'll bring you a menu". I wanted to add "if it's not too much trouble"!! We were given a menu, our drinks order was taken and then when our drinks were brought to us the menu was snatched from the table without our being asked if we wished to order! I waited a few minutes then had to go inside to the cooking area and place my own order where I was told "you should actually give your order to the waitress"! A while later and cutlery and napkins were dropped on the table (literally) and shortly after that our pizza was delivered on a tray, uncut with a wheel for us to cut it ourselves. I guess this wasn't a problem but some plates would have been nice! I don't see the point of knives and forks for pizza the staff are obviously expecting you to eat off a napkin! Or maybe our plates were overlooked? Maybe we were such an inconvenience to them we weren't deemed worthy of a plate? Either way, I hardly dare ask at this point and we managed with napkins/fingers.To summarise, I think it is perfectly obvious this bistro is a hobby for the owners of the hotel. The man cooking the pizza was actually very friendly and polite, but I think the waiting staff must be the owners because surely no restaurateur or hotelier would stand for staff with such a cavalier attitude towards customers? This is a great pity as I can see great potential for somewhere that pays such close attention to creating truly excellent pizza. With a few improvements, better marketing and a staffing overhaul I could see this dining experience attracting a lot of custom. But as it stands, sadly, the delicious pizza is overshadowed by the dire service. And, in this area, that unfortunately means failure....no matter how wonderful the pizza may be.

Hotel looks worn out and tired from outside and not much better once inside. Decided to stay for a meal but soon obvious the two young waitresses had not been trained at all. Wife chose the "lobster and strawberry summer special" but on finishing the first course she was told they had no strawberries. As only 2 other couples was eating it makes you wonder how many strawberries they ordered. I ordered pork steak which was more like a burnt offering. I had to ask twice for a pepper pot, eventually I was brought one which did not work. After turning the mill endlessly to try to get some pepper out, a fellow diner offered me theirs. What does it say about the place when fellow diners are more attentive than the staff. In all a very disappointing evening.

Overall we enjoyed New Year's Day lunch at Sewerby Grange today. It has been a while since we last visited the restaurant and it is good to see that they now offer a more extensive lunch time menu. The starters and main courses were all very good, in particular the scampi starter and the roast pork main course. Of the desserts chosen, the profiteroles and trifle were delicious, but the fresh fruit meringue was disappointingly hard and tasteless. Service however was efficient, and it was great to see that every table was occupied. Because it was so busy, we were initially unable to get seats in the bar and had to sit in the smaller lounge area instead. This was extremely cold and unwelcoming. On such a cold day lighting the log stove would have been a good idea.

This was booked for a celebration ( 70th birthday). This is an expensive restaurant with prices for a la carte and wine easily reaching London prices. We entered the restaurant, a women carrying menus walked by, saw us , then ignored us. We went to the bar, the women serving gave no smile or greeting , just stood there. We said we had a reservation, which she confirmed by repeating the name and the number of us dining. We were all stood rather awkwardly ,because , although there were only 5 or 6 others in the bar , it wasn't readily apparent from the lay out how we could get seats together. We said we'd have a pre dinner drink and would like to sit down. Rather than helping us with seats the bar person delivered an abrupt , mini lecture on 'staggered seating'. We saw a room in darkness across the corridor, asked if that was available to diners, instead of a yes or no, the bar person gave an abrupt, 'go for it'.We moved a couple of chairs, but had to keep the drinks in our hand- no table. The women with the menus who had watched us move the chairs, then came forward, didn't greet us or smile, just told us the list of what was 'off' the menu. When she walked away we realised she'd given one menu short. When she didn't return with the last menu, after a couple of minutes, we asked for the missing menu, only to be told, without any apology, that other customers were using it.By this time we were feeling very unwelcome and uncomfortable and given that it was a special occasion, somewhat upset. We went to the bar, paid for our expensive drinks. Another lady was at the bar, who said she was the owner. We complained, she gave a lukewarm apology, then we left.

I had booked a table for 5 and arrived 15 mins.early for a pre-dinner drink in the bar nobody helped to seat us and a member of my party eventually carried a chair from another side room in order to sit. but we didn't have the advantage of a table to place our drinks, no help or apology was given. We were handed menus but not enough for all the party on asking for another we were rudely told other people were using them. By this time we wondered why we were considering spending 2-3 hundred pounds on an evening there and we all agreed to leave without partaking of the meal We went to alocal hotel and enjoyed service with a smile!.

Instead of going out on Mothers day we decided as a family to go to Sewerby Grange on the Saturday evening. The table d'hote menu is available until 730pm and the restaurant was full. On arrival sat in the cocktail bar where as soon as you sit down you are offered drinks and menus. The order is then taken before you move to your table. What exceptional value three courses for £18.95. (Hasn't gone up since the vat increase). For starters we had crab and mango cocktail, haddock goujons, mushroom and madeira soup and melon and sorbet. All were excellently presented as well as being great food. For main courses we had locally caught sea bass, rump of lamb and belly pork with pork and leek sausage and bubble and squeak. All served with an individual portion of fresh vegetables. Again all were expertly presented and great tasting. To finish there was a choice of 6 desserts. The dining room is excellent and classy with linen table clothes and serviettes and attentive service and background music which is in the background. I honestly cannot believe there is better value in Bridlington than this as it really is top class fresh food in a classy atmosphere. Try it!

We have just spent a fabulous weekend at Sewerby Grange, every thing about the hotel was good from a warm welcome, a great bedroom with sea view, spa bath and a huge flatscreen TV.The dinner was absolutely fantastic, the quality and presentation of the food was second to none, breakfast was equally as good.Do no hesitate in booking to stay here, you will not be dissapointed.

The location of hotel was excellent, quiet with nice grounds, but ideally placed for exploring Bridlington , Flamborough and the East Riding. We stayed at the hotel on a B&B basis so did not sample lunch or dinner but the choice for breakfast was very good with well cooked food and good service. The room was spacious and airy with very comfortable beds. The decor was tasteful and the ambience was that of an old country house- very peaceful and relaxing. We had told the hotel the approximate time of our arrival ( as requested) and although we were slightly late we were met by a helpful lady who showed us to our room and was very polite.I would have no hesitation in recommending the hotel for people who like a quiet relaxed holiday.

Probably the best place in Bridlington for a tradtional meal. Food is all excellent quality using fresh produce. Fixed price menus excellent value. Service at the table is excellent. Great for romantic meals for two but also family occasions. Relatives who have stayed say rooms and breakfast excellent much better than expanse! So I would thoroughly recommend.

Had my wedding reception here, we had a meal there to test and it was really good. the dining room is nice and clean and the service was very good. For a wedding it was fantastic!. the staff couldn't do enough, had the bbq for the evening reception, the best idea ever. The marquee was plenty big enough and there was also plenty of outdoor seating too. Would defiantly recommend.

Nice room, great food well served. We stayed in the hotel-welcome was very low key. Little things like the shower pressure & basin waste slow to empty let down very nice room.Overall good.

During a day trip out we stopped at the Grange. We hadn't made a booking but waited a fair time at the restaurant bar/reception but no-one materialised. We decided that if the food was going to take as long it would be pointless us staying. The looks that we were given by the patrons when we drove off made us even more thankful that we had not stayed. I don't think we look like undesireables. Fortunately we had a lovely meal at a less pretentious local establishment.

....what can I say? I'm always sceptical about extreme reviews whether they are positive or negative, but felt my experience was worth sharing with others due to the potential for them to end up not being able to get a bed anywhere if they arrive late evening and encounter the same as me.For an elderley or infirm couple it could be a disaster.I booked to stay for two nights but on arrival at the agreed time the hotel was "closed".When I say closed, I mean CLOSED. Tthe entrance door was locked, noone answered the door or the phone so after one hour of waiting outside in my car and keeping trying I went elsewhere. It was late in the afternoon and after a very long drive too, so you can imagine I felt tired, in need of a rest and very let down. What frustrated me is that I also left a contact number so it would have been an appreciated and simple courtesy if someone had phoned me?I take a pragmatic view of a £50 per night hotel and accept that as long as it and my room is clean, warm and secure and it is able to offer breakfast in some shape or form I am more than happy. After all, you can get that at a Travelodge so that is my benchmark.Luckily no credit card details or deposit were left so more of an inconvenience from my perspective, but lost business for the hotel. [potentially guaranteed two nights per week for the next two years minimum].A real shame, but I guess it's their loss not mine. However, every missed opportunity creates another avenue to try and I've found an absolutely lovely Hotel in Scarborough instead who really appreciate my business and therefore will have it. Its called the Helaina - try it!Note to Travelodge - Bridlington needs you!

Daren, Chelsea & Amanda certainly know what makes a good restaurant. The food and wine are excellent. And if you've had too much to drink then you can always stay over in one of the immaculate guest rooms.

We went on a quiet Sunday afternoon out of season because the previous review said they allowed the dog to go inside. I asked if we could take the pup in and sit out of the way in the corner. The lady said no sorry I don’t allow dogs in at all.

We had lunch at The Potting Shed with family. This was a return visit, and we think it’s the best garden centre restaurant in the area. Soup was carrot and coriander (delicious, could’ve eaten more!), sandwiches were very fresh, and the haddock and chips were delicious. Restaurant is very clean and well laid out, tables not too close together. I’m sure we’ll be back!

This cafe is now called Miss Bs pantry. Very friendly ladies and delicious food. As a coeliac myself I have to have gluten free. This is very well catered for here so my partner and I have visited on numerous occasions.Various selection of savoury dishes and cakes. Lovely latte too. Well worth a visit.

Amazing food with an equally amazing view. £50 for a family of 4 including drinks, definitely value for money. Will definitely go back.
