Great full plate of halal breakfast including everything, always filling but the service is a little slow and they need more people during busy times.

Second Wife will always be my go to favourite halal english breakfast resturant. The portion sizes are excellent and the staff are more than happy to comply if you have any specific dietery needs and I really liked how they asked if it was ok to give my two young children a babychino each! I love the cosy homely feel and how the staff members make you feel welcome.

Been a few times now, as location is convenient and I must admit the service has been acceptable when met with the possibly the owner. However, on a few occasions I have been served by the younger male member who has been rude several time, but the last time was the worse and I decided not to go back. By far the worst customer service experienced !!

Velmi příjemná obsluha a rychlý servis. Snídaně obsahovala vše co od anglické snídaň lze očekávat. Toto bistro se pro mě stalo jasnou zastávkou na snídani po celou dobu mého pobytu.

This place is a gem! Breakfast served all day and they are very flexible with changing items on their set menu. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a local halal eatery.

Firstly the hospitality was fantastic here. Seating was cosy a bit cold however the staff tried there best to heat up the place. Food was good as well, just the cold room got everything cold quick. Prices were very good also.

My husband and I went for lunch to The Second Wife and since it was hot we went to sit in the garden area but still it was quite hot so we moved inside. Still it was quite warm so the hostess suggested we go down to the basement. That was like paradise. They had air conditioners on and the environment was very comfortable. In the garden area they had a large screen TV and no fans or other form of air conditioning and inside the only air coming in was from either of the two doors on either end of the restaurant. The basement was just perfect for a hot summer afternoon. We ordered Hummous and Falafel for our meal and I ordered a lemon mint drink (iced drink). The food was very high quality and quite reasonable. The Hummous was definitely one of the best I have tasted in London restaurants and the Falafel was quite warm and crisp. The drink was made fresh and tasted divine in the heat of the afternoon. The waiter who served us was very professional and pleasant. The environment in the basement is very comfortable with soft cushions and benches that one can stretch on completely. It was a very good experience and I would highly recommend it for breakfast, lunch and dinner or just snacks. Either for couples, small families or large groups. Since then we have gone twice more (once for breakfast and once for snacks). Both times we really enjoyed the experience.

I frequent The Second Wife regularly, especially when I have guests to take out. The halal full english breakfast never disappoints! The quality of the sausages and beef bacon is far better than anything I've had elsewhere and mushrooms are cooked to perfection (not soggy like other places). Overall, the food is excellent and the prices are fantastic value for money.I've also had the stone-baked pizzas and they are also fantastic! Much better than anything else available locally. My faves are 'In the allotment' and 'Smokehouse'. The only thing I would say that could be improved is the service. Especially when the place gets busy. Other than that I can't fault the place.

The Second Wife had, in my view, cornered the 'big breakfast' market in East London when I visited it last year and it is a crown which it still maintains in the halal food market which, let's face it lacks in imagination in E7. 12 months on though and things have changed. The owner has installed a wood-fired pizza oven and an array of toppings to satisfy the most challenging palate; and if you can't find a pizza to your liking you can create your own toppings. I opted for the seafood pizza but there's beef, chicken and even a breakfast pizza. Again another winner in the halal food market. And if you're lucky you'll even get service with a smile ... quite a change from the grumpy crew I met in 2014. I might not wait another year before returning to Upton Lane in the eternal E7 search for decent cuisine and cheery staff. There's a charming courtyard at the rear if you fancy eating Al Fresco or if you want to spice things up there's a Moroccan-themed dining room downstairs. The prices are probably among the cheapest in London and so The Second Wife could be the place to go if you have a large family and fancy a treat. You don't have to book at the moment as evenings are pretty quiet but once London's best kept secret gets out be warned - The Second Wife's all day breakfast is a winner but the handmade, hand-baked pizzas could corner the Italian market in the district. And smiling staff is an added bonus.

Little Italy comes to e7 Lovely place for breakfast in East London but it's been revamped and has stone baked pizza. DelightfulI went past few nights ago and had the beef pizza and seafood one. Was excellent. Was served with a fresh salad. And as a compliment the pizza chef added caviar on top of my slice, Lovely elegant decor, clean and tidy also has seating downstairs for family's and privacy and a rear morroccan garden for the summer I finished the evening with a excellent coffee latte with red velvet cake.

MORE AT TripAdvisor

The Second Wife restaurant is an oasis in the culinary desert that is Upton Lane ... unless you like chicken and chilli and then you can have it deep fried, roasted, boiled and on a stick in virtually all of the eating places E7 has to offer. In truth, unless you live there or know someone who does, you'd be unlikely to stumble across this marble-decked eating house which also has a very exotic, Moroccan-themed basement - but no belly dancers. There's an open-air courtyard which did attract shisha-smoking youth until the owner pulled the plug on his hubble-bubble business to focus on al fresco eating instead. I've been there a few times and service appears to depend very much on the mood of the staff; but temperamental waiters aside I can safely recommend the all-day breakfasts which happen to be halal (turkey bacon) and very, very tasty. The big, belt-busting breakfast will hardly break the budget either at £6.50. A great place for families who want somewhere cheap and cheerful to take the kids. For those who don't fancy breakfeast there's an Eastern mediterranean menu, a nice sideline in pattiseries and coffees as varied as any you'd get in the traditional High Streets. I hear the owner intends to build a wood-fired pizza oven soon - watch this space!
