From the outset the bar staff were friendly and helpful and could not be faulted the food was exquisite and the portion sizes were just right , the value for money was spot on. The ambiance with the view over the Solent as the sun went down was captivating Thank you Seaview Hotel for a memorable evening

We had 2 wonderful meals here whilst staying in Seaview - one in the dining room and one in the bistro (the menu is the same in both). Lovely food, great flavours, beautifully presented and Rozio (spelt?) who served us was lovely. Would highly recommend.

Excellent meal for Mrs B‘s birthday, The crab terrine and satay starter were amazing. The main courses of rump steak chicken duppiaza and the chicken burger were equally amazing. There was also a lovely surprise of a small piece of birthday cake with happy birthday birthday written in chocolate on the plate, the experience was made all the better as the staff made a fuss of us and the dog as well. It was so enjoyable we will be going back there very soon. As always Steve was amazing!

Delightful evening with superb food and friendly service. I booked the round table for 6 people in the window for a special evening with friends. The Aquitania came up trumps - yes, it’s a limited menu but, if everything is fresh, locally sourced and expertly cooked, I don’t have a problem with that. Our waitress, Gaby, was charming and, having originally come from Brooklyn before settling on the island, knows all about good service. I chose the scallops, lamb and finished with cheese. I asked for the soft cheese to be removed from the fridge in good time, which it was. Gaby offered more (homemade) biscuits without being asked. My friends all opted for the desserts, which looked amazing - one was a mini flower pot made out of chocolate and decorated with edible flowers. The portions aren’t huge, but everyone declared their meal to be delicious. This is not a gastro pub with extensive sea views but, if you’re looking for exquisite food and efficient but friendly table service, I highly recommend it.

Michelin mention 5 years ago was the draw for us, but was shockingly bad. Service was slow and awkward, 80s food and decor, full of old people, and priced at a whopping £39 pp - shockingly bad. Avoid.

Wonderful food. No question. For that: 5 stars. It has 2 rosettes, which are well deserved. What let it down, was the setting. Restaurant is dining room of old house. It didn't feel cosy. Right next door to the entrance of the hotel and the gastropub style eatery at the back. Doors were open so lots of foot traffic. Staff were friendly, just not up to the required standard in terms of etiquette: too informal, a bit too clumsy, the table service was more associated with a pub rather than a £45 a head menu. (Non matching glasses, bread was stale, no refills on the water, part of starter came too late, too much moving of cutlery from one plate to the other when clearing the table, no continuity in people serving, etc) These 2 factors sadly detracted from the whole experience. Nothing that can't be addressed with a bit of commitment. It could and should be great, but for now, it isn't. I hope they fix it.

I am no stranger to fine dining as my profile shows. We visited this venue during s time when staffing meant it was functioning within the hotel but not in its normal rooms. The staff were pleasant enough but clearly struggling a little with the quality expected. For starter I had a mille feuille duck liver parfait, admittedly not a combination I would have expected. The mille feuille wasn't the expected texture, quite solid and slightly odd. The liver parfait was a bit moist and taste wise a bit more like my heritage chopped liver than the sublety of parfait. The main was a braised short rib, a good texture but the braizing liquor wasn't as strongly flavoured as I expected and trimmings a little textureless. Dessert was sensational. Toilets clean and functional. Reviews had suggested a better experience. Waiter fed back that the parfait was as it was as it was home made, having had some sensational parfait, including Hestons. I assume that was home made too!

Arrived at 7.30 pm for a drink, plenty of outside tables with people drinking and some eating, we decided to have a drink and sat at an empty table, after a few minutes I went inside to ask what the procedure was for ordering to be told they were not serving any more as they were under staffed! I said we only wanted a bottle of wine and 2 pints of beer, a spend of over £30 but still told no. They obviously don’t need the money, we would have booked for a meal later that week but now going to the crab and lobster.

Having parked on the esplanade in Ryde, we enjoyed a pleasant walk in the autumn sunshine along the coast to Seaview, where we enjoyed a very good Sunday Roast in the hotel restaurant, before returning to Ryde. Food was very good and service, whilst impersonal, was efficient. They seem to have ditched the bar menu of pub style food, so it’s just restaurant style meals, which seemed odd, but we were happy with what we ordered.

Four of us for dinner , 7pm Saturday. Front of house staff are engaging and keen. The restaurant is clean, comfortable and you're not squeezed in cheek by jowl. The wine list is varied, if a little over priced. The home baked bread is a boon, as is the butter served with it. Having arrived a few minutes early, our starters arrived very swiftly, if not a little too swiftly. The goats cheese soufflé was a highlight of the evening and all starters were very good. However the mains were with us too quickly, and it was obvious the mash and greens (expensive extra sides) and one main (pappardelle with sauce) were cold. Only the pasta was replaced; the mash and greens got cold waiting for the replacement pasta. The bacon veloute for the stonebass was forgotten. The portion sizes were all very small, especially the pork belly, stonebass and pappardelle. Don't get me wrong, the quality is very good but a piece of meat or fish that is gone in two bites is not value for money, which is what Michelin's Bib is all about. Deserts were good, and larger than the mains - quite a surprise. We didn't kick up a fuss, but then we shouldn't have to. Factor in expensive drinks in the bar and cabs both ways from Ryde, what should have been a real treat turned out to be an expensive damp squib. We've been many times over the last 4 years. Sadly, this was our last visit.

My parents took me there on my 18th and 21st birthday and ever since I've thought of it as the place to go on special days. Recently I took my parents there after an early morning swim and it was as good as it's ever been - back to the Nick & Nicky Hayward days. Good to see Philippa too! Yet again no crab ramekin, painfully small kids meals despite menu saying for up to 12 year old, underwhelming selection, informed of no mussels 20 mins after ordering, slow service. We had lunch here today in the hotel restaurant. We were initially a little disappointed to find that the restaurant is now where an extension to the bar area used to be and the nice restaurant (as used to be) is now a lounge bar. Apparently this happened years ago, but we haven’t been for ages! Service from the two gentleman who served us was excellent. Friendly and efficient. The only option for lunch (in the restaurant) was a set menu with 3 options for each course (the bar had a wider menu). I had a goats cheese soufflé as a starter and it was cooked to perfection. My wife had a crab risotto, which she also enjoyed. We both had loin of pork with pork belly as the main. This was served with tender-stem broccoli (which as I don’t like broccoli was swapped for asparagus). The meat was good but it needed an additional veg and more sauce for balance. For desert, I had banoffee pie and my wife had vanilla brûlée. Both were superb with lovely flavours. With gratuity and a couple of large glasses of wine lunch came to just over £60 which, given that we had the restaurant to ourselves, we were comfortable with.

Rather disappointing Friday lunch. We were very much looking forward to our visit to the Seaview, having read a lot about it, but our expectations have been subverted. First of all, our four-legged friend is here allowed, but not welcomed: if you hope to have lunch or dinner with your dog, be aware that you will be denied access to the main restaurant. You can only eat in the bar areas: one is quite cold and uninviting, the other is a windowless internal room. We picked the latter, just because it was a freezing, rainy day and the fire was on. As far as food is concerned, our meal was delicious. Very nice catch of the day (gurnard) and their famous crab ramekin, which was really exquisite. Portion sizes, though, more out of fashion Nouvelle cousine style than proper restaurant quantity… The perfect size if you are on a diet. We did ask to have the restaurant menu, but only got the bar one. To make things even worse, we just need to mention the algid, hasty and inhospitable staff. We did not draw a single smile – even a tight-lipped one - from the two gentlemen who were supposed to take care of us there for the duration of our lunch! One final point: the Seaview hotel may have a “sea view” upstairs. The restaurant and the bars downstairs don’t. If you like a lovely sea view enjoying the island, try the pub just ‘round the corner. We didn’t. And we regretted it.

The wonderful surprise for us, however, was the elegantly presented Restaurant, modern in concept and very well attended by pleasant and efficient staff. Next was rare rib eye looked very pretty on the plate but so chewy and luke warm . The potatoe was good but 3 " long and a nearly raw half an onion. Sweet was a brulee. shortbread was delicious and brulee was half an inch tall in a small dish. Not set! asked for a can of coke and got a small glass only. As well as this the waitress had long dark hair falling over her face whilst serving us and the waiter had the personality of a fish. That was just 1 x £28. Went home and ate again. Realise this hotel has a good name and there are always excuses for everything I have said but it is true and they really need to review their portions unless they are feeding small children. staff need training apart from the wine waiter who at least knew his job and spoke to us.

Was out walking from Puckpool to Seaview - we were not familiar with the area and asked some locals for somewhere we could eat. They directed us up the road to either a cafe or The Seaview Hotel. We decided to try the Seaview as was was told it was open to the public too. Lovely sun trap outside at the front. Dog water bowls down which was handy for our dog. Had to order inside and the drinks and food were delivered to us. I had the tuna and cucumber sandwiches with crisps and salad which was nice. My friend ordered the burger and chips which although looked nice she said it was awful. Burger was not homemade and too hard. She did not like the brioche bun and although I did not try that I did try the chips which were cooked on the outside but not on the inside. Customer service was poor too. Waiter did not say much or ask us if everything was alright during us eating. Great shame. Maybe if staying there or eating in the restaurant may have been better???

Seaview restaurant is in Seaview but the only seaview you'll have is in the plate (or pictures and warship model). This inconvenience sorted everything was excellent. We came in 40mn late with our 2 years old daughter, the table was booked nearby the window and far from others. We had the gurnard and the hake, both at around 18£ and really we can taste the quality of the chef and his team, it is delicious. You'd need a side to your dish if you are very hungry. I had a south african chenin blanc by the glass which matched perfectly. Desserts are also high quality with efforts in the details and presentation.

Sadly we were disappointed with our evening meal experience at the Seaview hotel. There were four of us and we ate in the front bar, my first impressions were that it was very quiet we were the only table but despite this we were not greeted by any staff. There was a sign informing us to order at the other bar, which was fine but having seen a few members of staff floating around, a little acknowledgment of our arrival/presents would have been welcome. We made our way to the other bar many times during the evening to place orders for drinks and food which made our experience less enjoyable and more of a chore. (We chose the hotel as we decided the service and food was likely to be better than just a pub.)The food was average and nothing particularly special, Macaroni cheese was bland, lacking in seasoning and a real cheesy punch, Still prices were fair. The one thing that stood out and spoiled things was the terrible choice in back round music! Really obnoxious heavy sounding metal and rap playing??? Not really my sort of thing, not great for setting a relaxing atmosphere. Sadly the worst part of the meal had to be dessert! I ordered the chocolate pudding, it came with banana ice cream. My husband hates bananas and we were sharing so I asked for vanilla instead. The bar man was very kind and friendly but he said sorry no I can not change ice cream flavor- it comes with banana. Why couldn't he just walk the 8 feet to the kitchen and ask for a change? The pudding came and it was to be honest horrid, cheap tasting chocolate, dry and over cooked in a tea cup with a dollop of banana ice cream melting on top. not the well presented, rich, gooey, moist dessert I had imagined. Luckily for my husband it was quite bland ice cream and you could barely taste any banana. My mother had rice pudding she said it tasted lovely but presentation left a lot to be desired (school dinners springs to mind) My advise save your money and don't order dessert. So sadly Seaview Hotel not very impressed really and have no reason to wish to return. I apologies for having to write this review- for many reasons we really wanted to enjoy our evening and meal, but the standards of food and service just were not there.

We were staying at this hotel and had dinner included. I had crab to start and then Seabass followed by chocolate and caramel tart which were all beautifully presented and tasted fantastic. We had an excellent elderflower wine. We were well taken care of in the restaurant too. The only issue was that we were on our own by 9.30 which felt a bit strange but it was a weekday out of season.

A favourite place for an above average pub lunch as this area has the same standard as the restaurant and walkers can go in with heavy footwear etc.Delicious fish soup and corned beef hash imaginatively served with new potatoes and spinach. (and very good it was too says other half)Good beers.

So disappointed with our lunchtime visit. No front of house staff, the waitrress knew nothing about the lunchtime special offer- even to where we could or could not sit - and when seatede we had to wait while the menus where printed before we could order. Starter portions were slow to come and small. Main portions then took 45 minutes, again were too small and when we complained that the fish, potatoes and vegetables (6 beans) were all smothered in butter were told we should have asked for the fish without butter. The explanation for the delay was that everything was prepared as ordered, for a lunchtime meal I would expect a brisker service. Ifeel the restaurant rests on its reputation and needs to up its game.

We had a wonderful stay at Seaview hotel and the food was excellent. A wide variety of options, all beautifully cooked and served by polite, welcoming staff. The breakfast options were superb - poached eggs (Royale and Benedict) to perfection. Nice little touches that elevated the very well cooked and presented food above the norm. Thank you Seaview.

Had a lunch here ordered roast beef sandwich without horseradish mayo.Turned up with horseradish mayo, I informed the barman that I had ordered without the mayo. When the sandwich was returned it was clear that the kitchen staff had simply scrapped off the mayo.Totally unacceptable.

Dinner here is from a fixed price menu - £28 for three courses, less for two - and allows you to choose either a starter or main course portion from most of the 'savoury' dishes. We both had beetroot tart and roast cod, followed by creme brulee (hers) and my panna cotta. Sound mundane? Not a bit of it; these were all creatively (but not fussily) devised, and the sum of them made for an excellent meal. With an aperitif each, ditto dessert wine, a bottle of wine and sparkling water: £!00, before gratuity, and good value for the quality.

Don't be deceived by the outside go in and walk to the back where the restaurant is situated, here the service was attentive and the food superb Interesting menu allowing most offerings to be had either as a starter or a main course.the fish dishes excellent and the desserts divine.I will return to this modestly priced dining room

Some really great positives, some more neutral to negatives. On food, ingredients very fresh, particularly the fish, very well cooked and presented, all very positive. Win list well balanced and priced. Neutral, depending on your point of view, you had to select whether you wanted a course as a starter or a main. This leaves us unsure of quantities, particularly for mains, where a pro active suggestion of a side plate would have been helpful. Negative was service, which was slow. We were advised (pro actively, no question from us) there had been an error on placing our order with the kitchen, hence a very lengthy delay, which wasn't a problem, it can happen, but other tables around us also had slow service. Ending on a positive, the serving staff were great, they had pride and passion in the restaurant. Given the quality of the food, I have no hesitation in recommending this restaurant and would return next time in Isle of Wight.

Divided between a large pub bar and dining areas this restaurant offers something for everyone. The menu offers a good selection of choices and special offers are in place from time to time. On the occasion we visited £20 for a three course meal so they do offer very good value! Good selection of drinks with a popular bar used by the locals and refined dining.

We've walked by the hotel many times but never been in or eaten here - we've really missed out! The food here truly is excellent. We had beef roast (thick, succulent slices) and the duck&gammon pie (bursting with flavour). The kids had chicken goujons and fish goujons - both said they were the best they'd ever had which is really saying something. Service was friendly and the price reasonable (2 adult mains, 2 kids mains and 4 drinks came to £42). Will definitely come again

Food was faultless. Excellent value and superb quality of ingredients, preparation and presentation.Let down by the interior somehow. We were seated in a soul less room which no doubt doubled as a breakfast room for the hotel. The pictures on their website showed a space with white table cloths. This room did exist (not sure what that room was all about) but that was not where we were seated. The welcome on arrival into the hotel was a bit haphazard. We weren't sure which area the restaurant was, the space with the white table cloths or the soulless breakfast room. There was someone making drinks in the bar of the first room who seemed so engrossed in what he was doing that we just stood in the corridor totally unnoticed. Eventually we were guided to the soulless breakfast room. Service was pleasant enough but slightly forgetful. Put some life into the interior of your main restaurant and you are onto a 100% winner.Excellent value for the quality of food.

My wife and I were on the Isle of Wight just for the day having made the trip from Lymington to Yarmouth. Knowing that lunch would be required I did a little research in advance and found the very positive reviews on Trip Advisor for the Seaview Hotel and used those as my guide. I telephoned a couple of days earlier and received an answerphone response so left a message. I quite expected not to receive a call back but a couple of hours later a very polite and friendly lady returned my call.I explained I wanted a restaurant lunch for two the following Sunday and it was immediately explained to me that they were not serving roast dinners on Sundays. Actually that was good news for otherwise I would have asked if the a la carte menu would still be available - I don't like Sunday roasts!I made the booking for 1300 and on the wonderfully sunny September day we made the crossing. The Seaview is at exactly the opposite of the Island to Yarmouth so we had a gentle 22 mile drive across. The route got complex after Ryde so we found the sat-nav invaluable for the last six miles or so. Passing by the front of the hotel we were a little disappointed by the appearance - from the outside it looks like two domestic properties joined together - and easily found a parking space immediately outside. Only later did we realise that the hotel has extensive parking at the rear too.It was a good sign as we entered the hotel to see a number of people happily eating and drinking in the area immediately outside the entrance but we continued inside and reported to reception. The fact that we were an hour early did not throw them at all and we we shown to a bar area for a drink. Even at just 12 o'clock it was good to see locals enjoying a drink there. The menu was extensive including a good a la carte selection together with bar snacks and mid range choices. We both chose a mixture of both and were soon seated in a modern and obviously recently refurbished dining room. Spotlessly clean, light and airy and well laid out, it was a good start. The food did not disappoint. Obviously cooked to order it was all tasty and well presented. We were served by a selection of friendly and efficient young ladies who were well presented and knowledgeable about what they were serving. We enjoyed the experience hugely and considered the restaurant well deserved its excellent reviews from other diners. The whole place has the feel of somewhere trying hard to ensure its customers are delighted.Highly recommended

This is a great 'out of the way' place to stop and have a quick bite to eat or drink, the cafe is set in the grounds of the abbey and there is seating inside and out. A lovely location on any day. There is a small menu of food available. Plus homemade cakes and hot drinks

We enjoyed a visit to the botanical gardens & decided to stop in to their cafe /restaurant for a bite to eat I must say that the views were stunning looking out onto the gardens , we were lucky enough to get a table on the veranda where a local choir were singing & it made our day The food menu is quite limited but there were a nice selection of cakes available & lots of unusual teas too The food we did order was delicious .. but they were small portions for the price ( I must admit it was one our most expensive eats while on the isle of wight!) All in all a great setting to enjoy a cup of tea & drink but maybe wouldn’t go back for food

Fantastic! Welcomed in with a friendly smile, the ladies were lovely at all times. Hot drinks all tasty, served with a cute little biscuit on the side. I had the steak burger, which came in a toasty hot bun, with proper grated cheese on top & between the two burgers that melted beautifully. This was served with chips & salad. It all tasted so good. Highly recommend, we'll be back soon :-)
