Had some of the best food I have ever eaten last night @theseafoodguyuk. I was a bit doubtful as there have been a lot of gushing comments on Insta about this place. But it lives up the hype... Phrases like hidden gem are overused... But this is the full treasure chest. Every dish was delicious and the portions are full plates not small plates, meaty ribs, fat scallops everything perfectly seasoned I love Sichuan spice and thus was up there with the best . It's definitely not just seafood either lots of chicken, beef and pork dishes . But the seafood is amazing, my mate and I agreed we are heading back very soon for the whole crab which we didn't have cos we wanted to try a few different dishes. Reports from other tables were that it was sensational. There are pictures on the menu so you know what to expect but they don't do the food justice. The food for the two of us 3 big dishes plus rice was less than £40. We had leftovers and are both big eaters. We got a decent bottle of wine to share which was reasonable too. They have some great meal deals on with mains, drink and rice for about £15 and cheaper at lunchtime. It's less than 10 minutes walk from Nottingham Station and you get beautiful views up to the Castle as you walk there. The staff are lovely and helpful if you are stuck on what to choose. Go there now.

Neither of us loved the food. Service was a bit slow and one meal came out way before the other. The table next to us had the same experience. The £3 upgrade was a no brainier but the lemonade wasn’t actually great.

Loved this place. The menu offers a great selection of not only seafood but chicken, pork and beef. Some highlights were the takoyaki that was fairly authentic, the oysters were huge and definetly try the pork knuckle, it was delicious and sizeable, so worth sharing. However, needless to say, that although catering for vegetarians it's main focus is meat based dishes currently - so you might feel a bit restricted. Staff were also super friendly, it's a nice interior and it's great having the shop on the front with lots of small bit you might struggle to get elsewhere. I'll definetly be back to try more of the menu soon.

Excellent food, EXTREMELY big portions!!!

Food is absolutely delicious. Deep fried oysters are crispy like I tried in Hong Kong. The best Hong Kong food I’ve ever had in the UK. Highly recommend 👍

Best Chinese I have had in Nottingham and I’ve tried very many. Very fresh, authentic food.

Such a great experience we had here, started with a cocktail whilst being run through house recommendations, everything was amazing, oyster duck egg omlette was definitely a new one on us, deep fried but not greasy at all. Flaming chicken hot pot was something special, strawberry sweet and sour pork was alot better than your standard s+s dishes from takeaways. And you must have the HK French Toast, don't be afraid to try something new. Service is impeccable, dishes explained very well with stories behind them.

Delicious food, reminds me of home

I had a great meal at The Seafood Guy by 1998 Cafe in Nottingham. The beef vermicelli noodles were rich and brothy, packed with flavor. I also had spring rolls, gyoza, and wings—everything was fresh and delicious. They brought out French toast, which I thought was complimentary, but I later saw it on the bill. No complaints, though—it was absolutely worth it! The food was so good I forgot to take pictures. Definitely a spot I’d recommend for great Hong Kong-style food.

The food are super nice and staffs are friendly too. The toast is my favourite, the peanut butter inside,the fried toast ,the whole thing is just perfect. The coating of the black pepper chicken is also really nice ,it's super crispy , it's just that the black pepper sauce is not strong enough imo. Other than that, the beef cheese baked rice is so flavourful and the beef is so tender. And I would really recommend getting the lunch set ,just need to add another 3 pounds for the red bean ice cream drink which I would recommend others to try.

This is a really good, modern, Hong Kong style cafe, serving delicious fresh food and a great selection of drinks. The staff were very welcoming and friendly and the vibe is very peaceful. I went on a Monday lunchtime and there were a few people in, but it wasn’t busy, just really pleasant. I went for the HK French toast, as I’ve never seen this served anywhere outside of HK. It was delicious! I also had the golden fried rice, which was very fresh and tasty. The pork char sui and prawns in this dish were perfectly cooked, quality ingredients. Not your bog standard Chinese takeaway quality, definitely a cut above. I will be back.

Charged us 50p per box to take away unfinished foods, after we paid about £90 on the foods. Outrageous.

Food wasn’t bad but we can’t help but notice the hate symbols in the decorations. We felt unwelcome or even threatened. Totally ruined the experience.

I have been here a few times and today was very disappointed with the meal, the snack platter and the octopus croquettes.

Amazing - good food, fresh and not bad on price

Was a student living basically next door to this place and it was a lifesaver. Yes the restaurant was excellent and staff friendly but the highlight for me as a student was the little shop in the entrance. Loads of Asian noodles and other food options at a fair price ! Miss living next to such a nice establishment, highly recommend

We’ve eaten here 3 times in as many months; most recently we introduced friends too. Wide range menu of HK speciality food. I’ve never had anything as authentic in the UK, and everything is absolutely delicious. Heartily recommend the scallops served in shell and the aubergine dish. Service is always very friendly and efficient. Highly recommended.

The Seafood Guy By 1998 Café on Castle Boulevard in Nottingham is a fantastic little restaurant specialising in Hong Kong Cuisine. For starters we tried the Japanese Gyoza, deep fried and crispy served with a sweet dipping sauce 'Harmonious Blend of savoury chicken, fresh vegetables, and subtle Japanese seasoning' and the Takoyaki - 'Japanese octopus-filled balls. with crispy exterior and a soft and fluffy inside'. I loved these! Mains were the very popular 'Flamin Chicken Hot Pot' creating a lot of theatre at the table! It was very tasty too 'Stir fried chicken marinated in savory sauce enhanced with a touch of brandy and ignites into flames right before your eyes' Also tried the Beef Cubes with Black Pepper & Honey glazed potato this was excellent 'bite sized cubes of tenderloin and sauteed potatoes. a fusion of the boldness of black pepper with the sweetness of honey' It was quite a rich and sweet dish and went well with a bowl of plain rice. Loved this place, so much on the menu I want to try!

Visited on a Monday night so it was fairly quiet however dead nice food, very welcoming and hospitable. Definitely recommend the pb french toast, good sake collection as well. Not your usual Chinese/English style food. Definitely more authentic. Will be returning

This is an amazing place if you’ re missing Hong Kong cuisine. We ordered a cooked pork rice and a red bean iced drink. The drink took about ten minutes to arrive and the food took about twenty minutes to arrive but it was so worth it. The drink was very delicious and was just the right sweetness, it even came with a scoop of vanilla ice cream! The food was scrumptious and it was still hot. We were looking for a place to have lunch so we were very lucky there was room available. If you’re in Nottingham, I totally recommend this place! There was also an awesome shop full of Hong Kong keychains and asian snacks.

Had a wide selection of dishes between 5 of us. Crispy squid was good but didn't come with a dip,when I asked for soy sauce he brought Worcestershire sauce as he said it would be a better accompaniment, I disagreed so he brought soy sauce; a chilli soy would be best actually. My husband enjoyed the shallots with vermicelli. We got a free octopus balls with our beers,my husband liked them but I thought they were odd and squidgy! My son ordered crispy lemon chicken,it wasn't that crispy, although the lemon sauce was OK. They forgot his rice. His girlfriend had chicken and rice which she liked,it was quite flavoursome. My daughter ordered katsu chicken which was quite nice. Lots of chicken and rice,decent flavours but no finesse. The morning glory was fresh and lightly cooked but had a slightly unusual sauce flavour. We ordered one with tofu,they brought one without and 20 minutes later brought another,without tofu..we didn't ask for it, we sent it back. We also ordered a pomfret fish in black bean sauce and it didn't arrive so we had to ask again,they'd forgotten it,when it did arrive it was quite nice but the sauce was watery( possibly defrosted?) We also had to ask for our drinks and water a couple of times. Altogether it was fine,the service was okay,friendly staff but slightly forgetful, although it was quite busy. Would we go again? Probably not which is a shame as its a 5 minute walk from my son's flat!

Have wanted to visit here for quite some time and wish I had visited sooner! Casual vibe and a no-frills setting, the food was really good quality and tasted great, it did not disappoint. Really friendly service too. Will definitely be back

We visited The Seafood Guy for the first time this week and loved it, the atmosphere was fab, all the team were friendly and the food was spot on, we even had a bit of table theatre with our flaming chicken pot. If you go then you must try the Hong Kong French Toast, its my new favourite thing and we'll certainly be visiting again :)

Nissan Noodles in Soup with Hong Kong Satay Beef was an explosion of flavors. The satay beef was cooked perfectly, and the noodles soaked up the rich broth beautifully.

Osmanthus Honey Tea was a perfect ending to my meal. The floral notes from the osmanthus combined with the sweetness of the honey created a soothing and aromatic drink.

The Beef Short Rib in Broth with Flat Rice Noodles was hearty and comforting. The beef was tender, and the broth was rich and flavorful. I would definitely recommend it for a satisfying meal.

Authentic Hong Kong food with lots of varieties.

The Iced Ribena with Sliced Lemon was so refreshing! It had just the right amount of sweetness, with a zesty kick from the lemon. Perfect for a hot day.

The Takoyaki was an absolute delight! The octopus was tender, and the batter was light and crispy. It's one of the best I've had outside of Japan.

We were really impressed! Those prawns were some of the nicest I've ever eaten, and the Flaming Chicken Hotpot was unreal! 😍 The staff were all super friendly and Jonny came over several times to chat to us and share his knowledge with us about the dishes we'd ordered, which I thought was really nice. They also have a little shop where you can stock up on Chinese treats, we came away with a few goodies! We can't wait to come back and try some more of the lovely dishes from the extensive menu! 🖤
