Table of six...the service was outstanding. Food was perfection. Was so nice to be served hot food and all at the same time. Puddings were beautiful and did not disappoint. Overall a lovely evening and would highly recommend. Well done to all staff, especially the chef!

Was so let down on our last visit to the schoolhouse. Been many times and always been impressed with the food and service. The service this time wasn't as good felt like the staff was just confused all night and that we was just annoying. It wasn't even busy not that this would be a excuse. They brought a wrong drink to the table and when we mentioned the lady just said "we'll did they drink it" which we hadn't but they said we had to pay for it still even though we'd already paid over £130 that evening. The food I'm sorry to say was awful , it's the only time we've gone out amd everyone has left there food. The only food consumed was the sides of chips wedges and coleslaw. The chicken was cold and very pink the burger was the worse burgers I've ever come across . Said pulled pork but was just slabs of very cold tasteless meat and the burger it's self was just undercooked mincemeat that was stone cold and just crumbled couldn't even get it on a spoon. Was so upset by this visit as was one of our favourite restaurants, even had a family member come from London to join us there and was just a awful experience.

Wonderful birthday party at The Schoolhuse for 22 people. Food was good and service wonderful , couldn't have wished for a better party. The tables arranged so we could all be together. I went on a Thursday evening we were booked in for 7.30 .. admittedly, we were chatting and didn't order when they first asked us. The food was good as was the service. They were shutting at 10 and they said don't rush your food. But I do prefer a few more diners in. Maybe its busier at the weekend.

Wow stayed at a local chain hotel and try to use local business for our meals. Breakfast at the schoolhouse was a highlight. Steak eggs and potatoes the idea I had was far from what arrived locally found food superbly cooked with proper old fashioned service. Having a severe allergy to rosemary not on any allergen lists makes it hard eating out. Staff were on top of it and nothing was too much trouble. Can’t wait to go back.

Lovely restaurant, original and old school and the restaurant seating area located in the school hall. Service was excellent. Can really recommend the steak and wild mushrooms pie was gorgeous, needed a little extra gravy but I like lots of gravy 😋

The School house is a must for a great meal and friendly service. From beginning to end we couldn't have been made to feel more welcome by Demmie and our waiter Leon. Very much looking forward to our next meal.

Lovely setting,very helpful staff and lovely food. This is my second visit and loved the whole experience. They also catered for a large group,all meals were served at the same time and were lovely and hot. Very big portions of food. I would go back again.

We had been a few times for Sunday lunch which had always been great, so decided to book a meal for a group of 30 for my husbands 30th birthday celebration. We all had a great night and everyone complimented how lovely the food was. The staff were also great and very attentive throughout the night, and everything ran smoothly so we were all able to have a relaxed evening with family and friends. We’ll definitely be back soon, and will bare you in mind for any future large bookings too, would definitely recommend 😊 Thanks again!

What a wonderful place. We enjoyed a fabulous meal in great surroundings. The schoolhouse has really eclectic decor with some great artwork. The staff were attentive without being over the top. There was a good selection across the menu. The food was delicious and beautifully presented. We were impressed with the prices for the quality of the food. Highly recommend and will be back. Lovely meal and a lively little restaurant with friendly staff

Had Sunday lunch for my husbands birthday. The food was lovely the staff were friendly and couldn't do enough for us

Poor…menu is limited. The staff are all lovely but inexperienced. We have eaten at this establishment previously and had been very disappointed on that occasion. In our opinion things have not improved, we both chose the crab linguini, we expected it to be fresh tasting creamy and light, it was the total opposite, gloopy and dry with ‘crunch’ the chef seems to add pancetta to every meal! This gave the impression that we were crunching through crab shells! Not a nice experience. We felt the quality of the crab to be poor, so much so, my partner suffered gastrointestinal symptoms for the rest of the evening! We will not be eating here again.

Food was great but leave room for dessert because it's the best part. Atmosphere needs work, it's like the new owners ran out of money and kept a lot of decorations from the place that used to be there. Not a lot of choices in Alfreton but this is a good one.

Average at best on this occasion , Yorkshire pud n meat/pie was good, the remainder not so . Im not a fan of quennelled mash ( shaped) the butter comes to the surface making it look like wonder mash but it tasted fine just an extremely small portion. Cucumber in the veg is a nono i believe someone is trying to be inventive but no when cooked it as no taste and belongs only in salad . I like my veg ardente but wow the broccoli was as close to not cooked as u can get it had basically dipped its feet in the bath . Finally £4 for stuffing which i believe should be included in the dinner is a bit much ..especially when the amount given is less for 2 of us than i have on my own dinner normally. The dessert was ok and on the whole i was full but i wont be back for a bit.i never like to call staff but i think they are a little inexperienced at the moment ...oh n the lager had that first pint in 3 days out the pump taste ...having run a pub restaurant i know this tatse when lines are getting ready for doing .sorry but honesty is the policy . We will try again but in a few month

We were booked for bottomless brunch to celebrate a birthday. We chose 3 different jugs of cocktails (which we were advised were easier for staff to do rather than individual drinks) and were told we were only able to have refills once all cocktail jugs were empty despite all not drinking or liking all the same drinks. This meant that some of our group had to wait for others to finish before they could have a further drink. The food was very tasty but fairly small portions. Luckily we added chips to our orders. Asked for an item off the menu which I was told was not part of the options available. Had to point it out to the staff in order to not have to pay extra. In all the staff were lovely but did not seem very knowledgeable about what was actually available and there was little flexibility about things. For example, we asked if we could have desert, acknowledging we would have to pay extra, but were told that they didn’t think we could (unsure if this was because they did not have enough to cater for extra requests or because it was not included on the specific menu). Eventually we were given the choice of 2 ice-cream sundaes. I appreciate it seems to be a new menu/ experience but considering the cost per person (we were a party of 9) it was fairly disappointing.

Amazing every time. Really love this place for both dining in and for take away. The garden is lovely too.

Food was tasty but there are several issues. First items in the dish that aren't mentioned. I hate pomegranate and my starter of lamb kofta was covered in them. Having to carefully remove them started things off badly. The second issue was the portion size for £7 I got a single kofta the size of my thumb. Onto the mains. My crispy pork was really good. My family had the two steak option. The chips it came with where heavily salted when they arrived. Not wanting salt on them I then had to go and find someone to complain to. When the new chips arrived the waitress said she'd need to take the others and see if they can remove the charge which was in my view just poor service. Desserts were great. Staff seem clueless. Asked one girl what pie of the day was, told one thing and ten minutes later told its different. Ordered beef brisket originally and ten minutes later staff returned to say it was off the menu ( which is already rather small). Asked what sides came with the steaks (in an offer they ran) and was told wine. Reworded the question several times and the young girl just seemed confused. Never came to check whether food was ok or if we'd like more drinks. Chef is clearly good but sadly everything else , service, prices, experience is poor.

Had a lovely Sunday lunch, which was perfectly cooked, beautifully presented and with lots of fresh veg. Staff were efficient and friendly. The place was clean and quirky. We'll definitely be back. Very pleased with our find!

Wonderful dinner to celebrate my husband's birthday. Friendly welcome as soon as we walked in and staff were smiling, helpful and efficient throughout. Food was absolutely delicious and presented beautifully (husband said it was the best steak he's had in a long time), and very good value too considering the high quality. Lovely characterful place too, loved the decor. Would absolutely recommend, and visit again! Thank you team for a fab evening.

Cosy atmosphere and great service in a former schoolhouse. Tasty freshly cooked food. The prawns pil pil were large and juicy, very nice. The vegetarian mushroom gnocchi had so many different variety of mushrooms in it. I would like to see more vegetarian options for mains though. Good selection of drinks. Very friendly staff. Would recommended.

An absolute hidden gem! Have passed this place countless times and never had thought to have a vist, but wow so glad I did. We went on a sunday and it was 3 courses for £22, the roast dinner was absolutely spot on. All 3 courses were superb! The girls who served us were so lovely, will definitely be back!!!

Had a beautiful Christmas dinner here today ! The presentation of the food and the food itself was outstanding .the service was excellent - thank you ‘ I would highly recommend.

My wife and I visited this establishment for a meal recently, and unfortunately I have to give them 1 star as that is the lowest that is allowed. The food was OK nothing special, the room was freezing, the red wine was freezing 🥶, As we needed to wait for our taxi , just after 9.0pm we asked if we could have another drink while we waited for the taxi, but they said no as they had shut the till down😏. It was a disappointing experience!!!! As we had been looking forward to this evening for a few weeks. What a strange response, not what would be expected from a professional restaurant owner, and it would appear that you are actually saying that I have stolen from you, this disgusting / serious accusations and I would like you to take it as far as you can, as my wife and I took nothing from your establishment, except disappointment 😞

Better than I expected following previous visits.

Food was OK, didn't find the staff very friendly at all and we felted rushed.

We had a lovely midweek meal here on Wednesday. Cooked to perfection and it left no room for deserts (sadly). It's a lovely restaurant and would be even better if dogs were allowed in :)

In terms of positives, the staff were amazing and the place was just lovely. The negatives, I'm vegan so had the nut roast as it is the only option and it was the worst I've had. It felt like someone had just thrown some mushrooms in a blender and then fried it. Not a pleasant texture and very bitter from parts that were burnt so I couldn't eat it. I also emailed ahead of time to ask what the nut roast came with, because often restaurants leave a lot off a vegan roast, so I wanted to know exactly what it came with, but was just told twice that there was a vegan roast available. When I got the roast, the yorkshire pudding had just been replaced by what I think was aubergine? Which again would have been nice to know when I asked. It definitely doesn't feel like the vegan roast should cost the same as the others My partner had the chicken roast and enjoyed it but for both of us our veg was so undercooked it was inedible. We also though the roast potatoes needed to be cooked longer too, you couldn't really tell where the roast potatoes ended and the mash started It's a lovely place and really lovely staff and my partner did enjoy his meal so I would recommend it if you're a meat eater, but otherwise I would avoid

Lovely people, great indoor and outdoor space, decent food even when they're busy. They put real effort into their events and I genuinely cant knock a thing, except maybe the price, it's not so good if you're short on pennies. Definitely worth it if you can though!

Large party for Sunday lunch, all had 3 courses and drinks. Felt incredibly welcome in this cozy, friendly environment. Service was fantastic, food was outstanding. Could not recommend this place more. Do not pass up the opportunity for this fantastic experience.

Had a lovely sunday lunch here. I had chicken, the meat was lovely & tender, I got a yorkie as well, I had a side order of stuffing, there was 2 different choices of stuffing which was a nice surprise, my friend had the beef & said it was lovely & tender with no fat, we had a variety of veg. We both had the cheese cake for pudding as it was 2 course for £18 whice was very reasonable, the portions were huge. The staff were so friendly & had a lovely chat with the waitress. We had a very nice time & will be back in the summer to eat in the garden. Can highly recommend. Thank you.

Our first time here tonight and it was delicious, will definitely visit again!! The belly pork was best I have had in a long time , and hubby loved his beer batter bream with chips like his mum made!! 😉👍👍👍

My partner had the veal schnitzel which was equally tasty.Good wine about £18 a bottle. You can always order a cocktail! Really pleased we went.

Really disgusted with the shool house. I was given a voucher for Xmas by family. I booked to go for our wedding anniversary to be told the voucher was out of date. I explained I had not been out socialising through covid. They would not honour the voucher only give 2 drinks. Most people have honoured vouchers fir 12 months.

Really good food and really good service. It's a really pleasant venue with great staff. Food is lovely, and although the menu is not the most accessible, there's something for everyone. Well worth a visit!

Great service, lovely atmosphere, and I was delighted to find multiple vegan options at a local place, all clearly marked. I ordered a lovely Buddha bowl which was top quality, there's some real cheffy stuff going on in this kitchen!

Needed a place to eat, so picked the Schoolhouse, not disappointed amazing chicken burger the Mrs said and really nice chicken breasts with garlic mash. Cool place and only 25 minute walk from the hotels at junction 28.

Excellent beers, exceptional food, ambiance a-plenty and on this occasion . . . great entertainment to boot.
