Rating as an whole experience.. Food was nice and would say we was not disappointed. However as a whole the service was poor ... late to serve drinks, and the young lad serving consistently forgot what he was doing. Charged us for somthing we didn't recieve and when stating this when paying the bill the other young waitress didnt attempt to rectify it. Reviews claim to be great but we would not return as this was a poor service and ciuld of been easily rectified.

We stayed here last year and had a fantastic breakfast, so we were really disappointed this time around. We were so looking forward to breakfast given our previous experience. The venue is the same, but there was only one lady waiting which was insufficient to provide good service. The first morning we had a similar experience to another reviewer on here where we were seated directly in sight of the kitchen and saw the young male chef pick up food with his hands, leaving food under heat lamps for ages without sounding a bell for service and taking other pre-cooked food out of containers and putting it onto plates. There seemed to be no structure to the service. The breakfast was extremely disappointing as it was lukewarm and in the case of the breakfast croissant was overcooked under the heat lamp. The quality of the ingredients has also deteriorated as the previous occasion we were served artisan bread but on this occasion it was run of the mill and the sausage and bacon were not of the quality we’d expect for the cost. We tried again the second morning. This time a different chef. My partner asked for bacon, sausage and black pudding. They didn’t want anything else. They were served a ridiculous portion of 4 slices of black pudding, 4 rashers of bacon and 4 sausages, whereas the day before the portion size was totally different and a lot smaller, so there’s clearly no consistency. I ordered pancakes with banana, pecan and maple. The portion was bizarre - 1 whole pancake and part of a pancake with a small portion of banana. It was okay, but not very filling. Due to the lack of staff we were never asked if we wanted anything else or if everything was okay, so it’s an expensive breakfast for what it is. On the third day we didn’t bother. We won’t be coming back and wouldn’t recommend.

What an absolute disappointment !!! Have visited the Old School House on a numbed of occasions over the years and have highly recommended it to family and friends however after today's visit I would seriously think twice about recommending again!!! On our last visit we personally complemented the lady who cooked our amazing vegan breakfasts but it was a very different story today. The visit didn't start well as we had to ask the waitress to clean the table that we had been seated at as it was sticky with cupmarks and food stains from the previous occupants. The waitress apologised and said it had probably been 'boy cleaned' and moved us to a different table. The new table provided a clear view of the serving area and whilst we were sat waiting (a lot longer that usual for our vegan breakfasts) it became clear that service wasn't going well. A number of partially completed plates were left warming as the chef placed bacon and poached eggs onto various plates with his bare hands then placed hash browns onto plates again using his hands immediately after touching the animal products and then subsequently scratched his chests then removed eggs from one plate of food, and replaced onto one of the others without the use of utensils (not great hygiene and certainly not great if you are a vegan!). Not surprisingly when our food finally arrived it was tepid rather than warm and was missing the vegan sausages (that was listed on the menu) and that we had been looking forward to, the toasts and the cherry tomatoes (plural) had been replaced with half a normal size tomatoes. We asked the waitress about the lack of sausage and was told that the sausage had been replaced with some fried sweet potatoe mush with no explanation why or why it seemed like a good idea to add sweet potato to a breakfast that had potatoes hash browns. We mentioned that the breakfast was not what we expected after being so happy with previous meals and were just told that she would mention it to the chef. The breakfast portion size has seriously shrunk in size since our last visit and to add insult to injury my wife found eggwhite in her spinach - no doubt from the chef man handling the eggs from one plate to another. I don't think we were the only people who were less than satisfied today as during the fire alarm that went off we overheard one couple saying 'they probably set the alarm off deciding to actually make toast rather than serving warm bread' Overall not a great visit and not one that we plan on making again.

Gut Busting breakfast, defeated both of us, we shared the large full English with extra egg, beautifully cooked, lovely friendly staff. Just the job before we commenced our journey.

We had breakfast after an early walk . I had avocado poached eggs on a muffin with cherry tomatoes, my favourite type of breakfast and it didn’t disappoint . Very good flat white coffee. I added black pudding to my breakfast which was also tasty. My friends had the large full English breakfast and it was good but they felt it was stingy on the beans Very nice venue , great service & we could see some fabulous looking pancakes being served there too

Visited the school house while on holiday with my family. We planned our visit as we had heard good reviews. We were very disappointed. On arrival I asked if a table was available to which we were greeted with a grumpy response and heavy sigh like it was too much trouble! We sat down and ordered 3 flat whites while we perused the breakfast menu which looked lovely. The coffee came, it was like tepid dish water and we couldn’t drink it so decided if the coffee was the standard we would give the food a miss… and headed off to beadnell towers!

Had breakfast which was amazing. Food cooked to perfection, top quality ingredients and fantastic service from the staff. Would highly recommend a visit .

We went out of our way to visit this restaurant after reading the reviews and were disappointed with the service we received. The place opened at 9 and it took 3/4 of an hour to get our food and there were only 5 other people in the restaurant at the time. The waitress clearly wasn’t experienced and it took some considerable time to give our order. The food was cooked to order but the chef had to nip across the road to fetch some supplies whilst cooking another tables order which delayed things. Having given our order our drinks duly arrived. The latte was barely warm. In hindsight we should have sent it back. At this point my husband wanted to get up and leave but we waited for the food to eventually to arrive. The waitress had to be told what the items were from the chef as they were dished up. Everyone has to learn as they go along but customer service was very much lacking in this instance. Another table arrived and sat at a table which had been previously occupied. The waitress waited until they had ordered their drinks and when the drinks were brought out then wiped down the table. Prior to this there was nothing for her to do!!!! The food was reasonable. The eggs benedict was well cooked but the scrambled egg on another dish looked as if it had been made with powdered egg and was in layers!!! Not the best experience of our trip to Northumberland.

We gave The Schoolhouse a try after eating at The Apple Inn just over the road from it. It serves all day breakfast, lunches and afternoon tea until about 3pm not 12pm as stated on here. We had a breakfast, eggs benedict and the fruit and honey pancakes. Delicious. Staff were really friendly and everything was freshly cooked. Dog friendly too. Its a bit off the beaten track but is really worth a visit.

Welcoming and very friendly staff. Claire really made our breakfast experience a very happy one. Our dog was offered a sausage too. The full English breakfast was really full and very tasty with quality produce served hot and cooked fresh. Tasty coffee and toast. This place opens 8.30 and does lunches and a delicious sounding afternoon tea. Lucker is a good holiday destination so close to the coast and lots of other attractions.

We chose this place based on the menu, however some of the more interesting items (haggis hash) were not available; something we were only told some time after placing our order. The service was poor, our drinks took over 15 minutes to arrive despite the place being almost empty, and the staff managed to be both frosty and insincerely overfamiliar.

We had booked an ‘Afternoon Tea’ session on-line without knowing it was also necessary to inform the restaurant we wanted afternoon tea. On arrival we had a rather frosty reception, feeling told off for not pre-booking when we thought we had. The website needs to be clearer. We were asked to take a seat and after checking there was afternoon tea available. But not the warm welcome we’d anticipated. The tea itself was delicious, including savouries, sandwiches, savoury and see scones and cakes. All tasted homemade with good quality ingredients. The service also got better and our dog was treated to a sausage too and made very welcome. All round I would recommend and we enjoyed our tea. But make sure you call rather than book on-line to avoid disappointment.

Took the fam here for a wee breakfast while on our hols. Full English, avocado smash and two bacon and maple syrup waffles. Food was excellent and we received a lovely welcome & service from the staff.
