The Sawmills in North Devon

Stayed here for 2 nights to attend a friends wedding in a resort 5 minutes walk up the road. When we arrived it was very busy with people eating in the pub/restaurant and there was no parking. Staff advised they had saved us a space and we moved the cones and got parked. Quickly checked in and shown to our room. The room was spacious and clean. Large bed with 2 single duvets, my only grumble was it was not great sleeping under 2 single duvets on the double bed. We asked staff about getting to the bed behind the hotel and booked a table for dinner bit later, they were really helpful. 20 minute walk up a very steep hill behind the hotel and down a steep cliff path, we were on the most stunning beach, we had a swim! We had the local rump steak and chips for dinner that night and it was delicious. Breakfast both mornings was included and was very nice indeed. Would recommend the food here. We enjoyed our stay here and very good location for attending our friends wedding at Watermouth Cove.

We had to wait 90 mins for food which wasn’t great as we had 2 children and a baby in the party. When it came the only decent meals were the rack of ribs and the curry Pulled pork and chilli nachos were all nacho and sour cream very little else Worst meal - described as ‘ hand carved Devon honey and mustard coated ham’ egg snd chips - ham was 2 thick slices of plastic ham - certainly NOT hand carved and it’s only claim to being local was came from a Devon supermarket ! Eggs were hard ( though they did replace) and chips like warm. Very disappointing family night out - won’t be returning and certainly wouldn’t recommend

Great find - wonderful service , very friendly and welcoming staff and fantastic food. I had a fish dish off the specials board and really was fantastic and far more fine restaurant food. Will definitely book if in the area again

Beautiful pub inside and out, serving delicious and stunningly presented food. A great selction of options on the menu - it really is excellent and good value for money. It really was excellent when we visited but can't comment what it's like during peak season, but I would imagine 'popular' !!

Spacious and welcoming with a great atmosphere, The Sawmills didn’t disappoint. The service was perfect- attentive but not intrusive. Delicious family lunch with generously sized BLTs and crab sandwiches served with very fresh salad and quality crisps. The homemade Banoffee Pie was perfect - so good we wanted more! We so enjoyed our visit we can’t wait to go back.

What a fantastic Sunday roast. The best I have had for many years. The manager was very pleasant and all the crew were very welcoming. The food was cooked perfectly and great portions, we even had enough for sandwiches at tea time.

We stumbled upon this pub. As we first walked in the staff were very welcoming and friendly. We had an amazing Sunday lunch for 7 people, the service was outstanding and we could not fault the food. We would definitely recommend! We hope to return soon.

Having avoidedThe Sawmill for a few years after some bad meals, we decided to try the Sunday Roast, what can I say OMG I don’t think we need to eat for a week. Whilst the meal was pricey it was definitely worth every penny. I had the roast beef and there were 4 very good sized slices of meat as well as all the trimmings and plenty of Vegetables. Our daughter had the pulled pork Nachos, she ended up bringing 1/2 of them home as the portion was large. We will definitely be back.

overpriced, we were shortchanged as well bought a lager and a soda and lime , gave bartender £20.00 NOTE he gave us back£1.70 i questioned this he said sorry but he was not used to dealing with cash and gave us back the £10.00 we were overcharged shall not go back we were disapointed

Great food service was good but the Manager called John arrogant and rude he should leave it to his staff overpriced

Had lunch 2 days running loaded fries with chilli beef and mywife had cheese sandwich both good portions and very happy with them both so decided to book evening dinner had fish and chips my wife had Mediterranean quiche off the specials board. Disappointed with both fish batter wet and not crispy the quiche was bland with the base mushy. The pub is nice with a good variety of beers and the lunches were good so hopefully this post I write will be there for them to improve on the dinner menu

The room was lovely. Spotless hence 2 stars. Disappointing no breakfast. You fo get a bowl of fruit & a croissant plus a porridge pot. I stayed 4 nights, they do not clean the rooms so no cups replaced or tea/coffee topped up. I had to ask for more porridge pots & teabags but was left with no spoons! Ended up having to eat the porridge with the knife that came with the fruit bowl!! Used the same cup which I had to wash myself. For the price I thought this was disgraceful. Also the TV didn't work. I've stayed in rooms in pubs before & had great breakfasts for less money. Apparently the pub doesn't open until 12 hence no breakfast.

We called on our way home from Watermouth castle. We enjoyed a drink in the fabulous lounge. However the menu was too pricey for a family just wanting casual meal. I would go for a special occasion as just adults though.

Place is lovely staff where friendly and good, but the food was not the chips where so hard trying to get them on the folk was impossible flying a cross the floor ..

We arrived as party of 10 prior to attending a wedding near by. We were greeted warmly and quickly shown to our tables. Our whole experience was wonderful from start to finish. Great staff, lovely food and lovely drinks! They worked very hard considering they were experiencing a staff shortage! Compliments to the chef, his team and front of house for running such a wonderful establishment !!! 😊😊

I really enjoyed my visit to this characterful pub in a beautiful location. The service was friendly and efficient. I had an excellent vegan curry. My dog was very welcome. This is a great place for a quick coffee, a lazy lunch or dinner with friends or family. See you soon!

Stopped off here for lunch with my Mum and our dog, the team were friendly and helpful. The food was lovely and fairly priced - highly recommend the halloumi fries and the beef burger!

Great place. American themed menu - limited choice but what they do, they do well. Friendly, efficient staff. Dog friendly, inside and out Not too pricey. Would recommend.

Lovely spot shame about the food. Since covid portions have got smaller and prices have risen with a minimalistic menu. Still hungry when I left. The Borrito was a couple of large crisps small amount of chill beef and a few thimbles of three dips.

We popped in here just for a drink, but ended up having the brisket burger, it was beautiful, lucky to have an outside table with an umbrella, some dont have umbrella's and struggled as pretty hot that day. Worth a visit to sit inside or out and enjoy

We were staying in Combe Martin and passing at lunchtime so we called in to experience their "street food", the setting in the garden was very picturesque alongside the stream which no doubt reflected the price of a very average pint of Beerd Cubic Pale...

The vegan members of our party were pleased to have a tasty selection. Staff were efficient and friendly but the menu was limited and quite pricey. Enjoyed the cheesy fries but the mac cheese was a bit bland. Nice atmosphere but would probably not return.

Menu limited because of covid, but could have had more choice! Got our drinks order wrong. and wooden cutlery. Expensive for what you get. Couldnt book online or by phone, you have to turn up and queue!!!!

Pub is only currently open at weekends with a fairly limited menu so worth checking menu before you make a booking.

Service and food great. Only downside is that the menu is so very limited a the moment which would be a problem if you wanted to eat on multiple visits. Food was lovely

Nice enough environment but waitresses never smiled. Manager was friendly though. Food was very mediocre. Wine was good. Much better places to eat nearby.
