We were visiting Sandwich for the weekend and came here for lunch.Ihad the jacket potato with cheese and my husband had the cheese sandwich ,all served with salad,very nice.

New Year, new reduction in portion sizes and price increase. Am a local and visit this shop regularly but New Year brings portion sizes and garnish decrease in size plus suspected price increase. Shame.

Great stop for light bites and homemade cakes. Lunch menu is fairly small but everything was nicely prepared and presented. Quick and friendly service. We took away homemade cakes for our bike ride in the afternoon - a lovely treat to keep our strength up later on. A hearty bread pudding and almond and cherry cake. Highly recommended!

We were welcomed wonderfully warmly and made to feel that nothing was too much trouble - we would return in a heartbeat! The food was attractively presented and absolutely delicious. Full credit to all members of staff and particularly in the kitchen.

Came in last month with my family and had a range of sandwiches and jacket potatoes. Plenty of choice for sandwiches that all came with a really delicious homemade coleslaw along with salad. Staff were helpful and friendly. Will definitely be coming back when I’m next in sandwich

You'd expect something special from The Sandwich Shop in Sandwich. We were disappointed on several levels. The sandwich was okay, but nothing to write home about and the scones, although perfect, cam without enough cream - cheapskate.

Staff were not friendly welcoming or polite. No greeting with a smile and very stern in their approach to serving. Sandwich was okay, cakes were very dry and the service wasn’t the best. We sat outside in the sunshine thank goodness

I often visit here and love their latte. Very reasonably priced and welcome feel. I generally go alone and sit outside so that I can watch the world go by.

We felt a sandwich in Sandwich from the The Sandwich Shop ought to be a feature of our visit but unfortunately we can’t give a positive review. It may just have been an ‘off day’ for the lady serving us who was clearly busy but even so we came away wishing we had tried somewhere else instead. Firstly the ‘vegetarian options’ are very limited - cheese and pickle or egg mayo being the only options. Nothing for vegans I’m afraid. My cheese sandwich had dried bread (probably from sitting unwrapped in the kitchen waiting to be used) with a far from generous filling unable to detract from the dryness. My husbands egg mayo was a bit more successful. Our pot of tea for 2 provided one small cup each and when I asked for a top up of water had about an inch put in which barely coloured the milk for an attempted second cup. I do hope other people have better experiences!

After our walk from Sandwich-to-Sandwich Bay and back we were looking for a place to get a drink and a piece of cake and we came across the Sandwich Shop, we sat outside and waited to be served. Nice cups of tea and coffee with a good choice of tasty cakes.

Stopped here one lunchtime with the family while caravanning locally for a quick snack, we had various sandwiches and jacket potato's which were really nice and well worth the money.

I visited here after getting lost trying to reach another location. A bit of a shame but it is what it is. I asked to sit down and eat and the lady behind the counter was very kind and accommodating, and explained all the options on offer. I was really impressed to see there was gluten free bread and cake on offer at no extra charge. I ordered a really nice farmhouse special sandwich and a hot chocolate, which were both delicious. I would definitely recommend this establishment and I look forward to returning in the near future.

A pretty average place. An excellent location in the square, & good views from the window. Food not terrible, but nothing actually good about it. Coffee weak. They need to up their game. There’s a lot better than this nearby, & nothing to make you want to visit this place a second time. Unless you really like mediocrity.

It felt special ordering a sandwich in Sandwich. Usual protocol with hand sanitizer and face masks. Due to the face masks, the waitress misheard my husbands order, so he got a ham sandwich instead of tuna- she offered to re-make but he ate it anyway! It was simple and tasty. Clean, and toilets out the back.

We took a table inside, just as well as it rained a few minutes later. The tables were all distanced OK and sanitiser was available as you come in. The food came promptly and we had scrambled eggs on granary toast with salmon. Very tasty and filled a hole!! The place is by the main square so easy to see. There were tables outside too which helps and we had seen them in use earlier when the weather was OK.

Many times in Sandwich but our first visit to this cafe as a result of the 'eat out' offer. Took advantage of the sunshine and sat outside people-watching after a brief wait for the table and chairs to be thoroughly sanitized. Pleasant, efficient service. Toastie and baked potato, both with salad garnish, were delicious as were the slices of cake to follow. The latte was perfect and unusually for a cafe, piping- hot.

My husband and I have had lunch here on several occasions. The sandwiches are made fresh to order with good quality bread and fillings. I really like the Earl of sandwich which has beef and horseradish as its fillings. You can sit out side too. Staff are always friendly. Good place for a sandwich.

After reading the last review I feel I need to come on and defend this lovely coffee shop! The staff are so friendly and always so happy to have a chat. The sandwiches are delicious and all the home made cakes and so fresh! Fantastic little cafe in the centre of town. Wouldn’t recommend anywhere else!

Poor customer service. Order and at before being served yet wait at counter being ignored whilst working on some other order. It’s almost as if your a distraction and an inconvenience to them. Rarely does one come across such a place where you feel sorry to be a customer. I noted the reaction of staff to folks trying to engage and be complimentary only to be met with a short recognition and a back as staff walked away almost too uninterested or ‘busy’ to listen properly. Not so for a local young chap who got drooling service and unparalleled attention by staff on duty. Such a shame in great location. Sandwiches overpriced.

We had lunch today. Sat outside in the sun. Great service and lovely lunch. My husband loved-the Salmon Cream Cheese and Cucumber. I had scrambled eggs and beans with toast. Will definitely return.

We visited Sandwich on a busy Saturday afternoon in August. The shop was quite busy and whilst the person taking the orders at the till was very slow (think she might have been training), once we ordered it only took about 10 minutes to get our food. There is a good choice of fillings and the sandwichs were delicious. Very fresh bread and fillings. The small side salad which comes with the order actually tasted lovely - clearly local produce. The coffee and tea were high quality. The staff are nice but need to get a bit slicker. Really worth a visit if you fancy a nice (none packaged) sandwich.

Yesterday I came here with my Aunty we had a lovely time the cream tea was 10/10 and the beef sandwich was amazing which came with a great coleslaw. The staff were great will definitely be visiting again!

They do a good variety of sandwiches also homemade cakes and scones, jacket potatoes. There are plenty of outside tables to make the most of the sun, or inside to cool off.

Asked for straws to go with our drinks, straws hand to me by the drinking end, when I asked to select my own straws, was told I was being rude! To which I responded you have been handling money, opened a cupboard and now you want me to put my mouth where your fingers have been. Continued to say things to me when I wasn’t in the shop!No need for rudeness.

This appropriately named sandwich shop makes sandwiches that are very good indeed. The restaurant was bright and and the staff were friendly and efficient.

Came in for a takeaway bacon baguette to be told they don’t serve hot food. strange, as i saw a board explaining hot food and they serve toasted sandwiches...

Its good that you can sit in or outside the shop. The food and drinks seem overpriced. Two slices of toast for £2.00, I was not prepared to buy. A friend had a slice of cake for £2.40 but it was rather a thin slice. Probably would not go there again.

The Sandwich Shop was very good for a snack lunch and well situated in the town centre. Our party was of ten persons and did call the week before our visit to book, but on arrival the staff knew nothing of our booking and advised they never take bookings, a mistery. It was a glorious day and were not busy so they said we could sit outside and pull all the tables together, which we did ourselves !!!

Lovely little place to stop for a snack. The scrambled egg and smoked salmon was lovely. However place need a bit of a spruce up, painted chairs looking a bit tired.

"Let's have a sandwich at the sandwich shop in Sandwich!" thousands of visitors to Kent must have said. With that kind of name recognition actually knowing how to make a sandwich is hardly necessary. We waited 40 minutes for our order for four toasted and four untoasted sandwiches, because "we only have one toaster and it only toasts one sandwich at a time". Mine at home does two. When I expressed doubt that the wafer-thin plasticy-textured plasticy-tasting slices in my "earl of sandwich" were beef, the waitress brought out the plastic packet they came from to prove it. Give this one a miss.

Just visited the Sandwich Shop in Sandwich, Kent as part of the Salute to the 40's weekend and had the best cream tea that i have ever tasted with homemade scones and homemade jam. Staff are really friendly and a great place for a tea break stop.

I visited this cafe when it first opened so was willing to return today. Instantly put off by menus that had faded and run inside curling laminate, very poor selection offered. We weren't acknowledged when we came in. Ordered drinks instead of the lunch we had hoped for - my hot chocolate was served in a mug which should have been put in the bin. When we stood up to leave, we discovered that the seat cushions obviously hadn't been cleaned recently because the dimples were crammed with muck and dust.

I had promised to provide a tray of sandwiches for a lunchtime meeting. That morning things happened and I ran out of time, so dashed into The Sandwich Shop who made THE most delicious tray of well presented sandwiches on the spit with different fillings on mixed breads and at a very reasonable cost! They went down an absolute treat with the guests, and no, tho they were very good indeed I did not lie by laying claim to making them myself!

Visited this lovely shop again, I'm always tempted while in sandwich, it was the same high standard as usual, not very busy but I think that's down to the weather and a Sunday, can't understand the review about the spam though because as far as I know they don't sell it.

I had a lovely roast beef sandwich, cheese add coleslaw sandwich on granary bread. Absolutely delicious and cannot fault that particular sandwich. Another time a friend and myself ordered a ham and cheese sandwich which while okay could have had a little more ham in it. The staff are always polite and friendly and I would recommend The Sandwich Shop..

The Sandwich Shop is opposite the museum and is a friendly and comfortable place to stop. Lunch was an outstanding cheese scone and an egg mayonnaise sandwich - with a slice of coffee and walnut cake to follow. All very moreish.

Made a visit to this cafe in May, sat outside, very nice food and staff. Went back today as In the area, sat outside with my husband and our well behaved dog. Ordered sandwiches, tea and coffee. As our drinks and food came it started to rain. "Can we please come inside?" I asked, no dogs allowed I was told, reason being not enough room, there were empty tables at the time. "Oh, not dog friendly then" I said, to which she replied "I hate it when people say that." I said lots of cafes now welcome well behaved dogs, to which she replied, "It's a new thing", I saw no point in continuing the conversation, as I was amazed at her attitude. Hasten to add we will not be going there again.

Situated right in the center of town this is an ideal place to have a snack and a sit down and people watch. Service very friendly and there is a good selection of cakes and snacks.If you pick a warm day recommend sitting outside and enjoying a relaxing break.

Visited around lunch time for a tea and sandwich, they were quite busy but service was fairly quick, sandwiches were good but not cheap. A nice place to sit in fine weather as it's opposite the Guildhall.

The sandwiches are succulent and tasty, the coffee and tea top notch and there is seating in the Guildhall Square too.

Answer over 10 minutes when they forget the order and have to be reminded. Not impressed as there are 3 staff in and there were no other customers ordering until after we reminded them.

I use to use the Sandwich Shop twice a week at least with my daughter. Shame but in my opinion the food quality and general stanadrd has gone down.Possibly due to the fact Costa is giving them competition, and I can't stand Costa as a brand!!When I have used the Sandisch Shop the last three occasions, they have run out of certain Bread and they have run out of Coleslaw.But no price difference given.The Bread when I have opted for a different choice has appreared dry and stale, It was never like this!!Menu has not really changed and appears dated now.Shame as I love supporting local businesses and especially local food businesses.I have not been back, sorry but the price is not cheap and its just not worth it now.Chef Paul Group Executive Chef

Stopped here on a sunny afternoon for tea and cake , which was very good. Situated in market square , service was very good and its a lovely spot to watch the world go by.

Nice selection of sandwiches and cakes for lunch and nice coffee too.Worth a visit if in the town centre as there is not much choice nearby apart from Costa and this was much better and fresher

Stopped briefly for a sandwich and drink. Fast pleasant service, they catered to our needs and the sandwich was fresh and filling.

We only had a coffee here, but the service was good , the prices were reasonable.It was clean and tidy , I did see some customers being served with what looked like very nice sandwiches.It appears to get quite busy at lunch time, we passed it at just after mid day and it was packed.A few hours later when we popped in much quieter. Nice easy going atmosphere.

This Sandwich shop in the square facing the Guildhall is part takeaway but seats 14 and one infant in a high chair. The menu is only clear when you look behind the counter, but includes soup, sandwiches to order, and some light items such as scrambled egg on toast. This came on white or granary bread, with salad, and was followed by a less common cheese scone with butter pats. Externally only Lavazzo coffee is advertised on an A board, and comes small or large. There are more seats outside, but this was not the climate for them. The café also includes local items for sale, including cards, and a selection of magazines to read. Usually busy they must be doing something right, and although not fussed over, felt welcome enough. Toilets not inspected and looked like a short outdoor stretch was needed.

I have eaten at this little café several times. It is very conveniently located in central Sandwich. A couple of years ago I had the best sandwich there that I have ever eaten in my life.It was rare beef with horseradish sauce and Rocket. The ratio of beautifully succulent meat with the other ingredients was perfect! It really was utterly delicious.

Came across this cafe by chance and what a find. Prettily decorated and good home cooked food and very reasonable prices. We can recomend the Pumpkin Soup.

I really struggle with places that don't acknowledge one's existence. I visited on quite a busy morning and stood by the counter for about 5 minutes, just me no one else was waiting. At this time three people were behind the counter doing things. In the whole time I waited not one of them looked up and said 'hello' or good morning. I know they were busy and I was happy to wait. The lack of attention made me wonder how long it would take before they were even prepared to acknowledge my existence. I left

Popped in about a month ago for a bit of lunch, have returned quite a few times since! Lovely menu for the perfect snack, look no further than the sandwich shop for somewhere to eat in Sandwich. Not the biggest of menus but perfect for a small place like this! Sandwiches, jacket potatoes, beans on toast, cakes and hot drinks.Staff are friendly and efficient, good service. Will be returning

Popped in for a cup of tea after a stroll around sandwich. Ordered cake and coffee and sat outside whilst we waited. Service was good, the location lovely and the cake delicious. Really enjoyed our brief stop.

Stopped here for a quick lunch and catch up with friends. Three of us had sandwich platters and one had a jacket potato. All meals were nicely presented and served reasonably quickly considering it was height of lunch rush. Found the staff to be helpful and efficient. Will definitely eat here again.

As the children had gone back to school we thought we would treat ourselves to a rare lunch out, and we weren't disappointed. We were greeted by a polite waitress who took our order and our drinks were with us in less than 5 minutes. They were fairly priced and hot which I like as many coffee chains these days make the drinks warm. When our sandwiches arrived shortly after they were generous in size and very tasty, lovely side salad and coleslaw too. We will be visiting again and without a doubt the best cafe we have visited in sandwich, and over the years we have visited a few.

Stopped for sandwich (toasted) and coffee. Noticed that tables outside were not cleared so I should have expected slow service. Coffee took nearly 15 mins. to arrive but was hot and not too weak. After 30 mins. asked for money back for sandwich as had an appointment and had to leave. Sandwich then appeared but no good to me as I had to leave and didn't have the time, or inclination, to eat "on the hoof." Money refunded, begrudgeingly. Pity there were not enough staff, or better still, I was told that there would be a delay. Used to be very good.

Quite exciting to discover The Sandwich Shop in Sandwich. Fascinating to learn that the Earl of Sandwich had the choice of Sandwich or Portsmouth for this title, so had he chosen differently we might all have been eating Portsmouths. Doesn't have the same ring to it. It was late afternoon so cake was the order of the day not a sandwich. Surprisingly there did not seem to be too many sandwiches on offer. There a wonderful looking gluten-free polenta-based cake on offer. Although this was not required for dietary reasons, it looked too good to miss and indeed tasted fantastic. Sadly the drinks were not of the same standard - hot chocolate searingly hot but not of good quality. The location is good, right in the centre of Sandwich, and the legacy and brand should allow this place to excel. The cake shows that it can do it, but there would appear to be some work to do.

visited sandwich again on tuesday and had to pop in as last time I visited it was lovely, it didn't disappoint at all, I wanted ham but the young lady explained that they hadn't received their order so unfortunately I couldn't have it so I chose something else, it was just as good lots of filling a nice side salad and a cup of tea all served by a warm and pleasant young lady, I must say the staff are an asset to this lovely cafe.

Sandwich is my hometown so I love coming back to visit. We stopped at The Sandwich Shop for...a sandwich of course! Unfortunately, we were never able to tell if it was good or not as it never came. The drinks arrived very promptly and were brought by a younger waitress. My husband ordered the food at the counter and then rushed to the bank as they only take cash. After 10 minutes, another waitress who was older, told me that they didn't have any ham as their butcher had not delivered it. She asked me if I wanted pork, but unfortunately I do not like pork meat. I asked if they had chicken or turkey and they did not. She then said she would go to the butcher to pick up the ham and returned with it around 5 minutes later. We thought it would be a quick process to get our food from this point. Not so unfortunately. After we had been waiting for 30 minutes (in total) my husband went to the counter to ask how long it would be as our parking was due to expire.He went to the counter and the younger waitress did not look up. He said "excuse me" and she replied "Yes?!" As though he were an inconvenience. He asked how long the food would take she said "we've got a lot of orders, what one is yours?" You would think that given we had already been waiting half an hour and required a ham 'pick-up' we might be next on the list? After 5 more minutes of waiting we decided to pay for our drinks and leave. There was no apology at all. Many things in this world can be corrected with a simple apology and some good old-fashioned customer service. I understand that deliveries sometimes don't happen and places get busy, but when you treat your customers like they're an inconvenience and can't provide a simple sandwich in half an hour...then there's something a miss. I have given two stars instead of one as the drinks came promptly.

Having spent the best part of the Bank Holiday Sunday at the annual Sandwich festival (which I must admit was a little lacklustre), we decided to go home before the fireworks that were scheduled for much later. But, having spotted the Sandwich Shop whilst enjoying the ambience of the live music earlier on in the main square, we thought we would have a last drink before heading to the M2. And so it was we walked in to this really quite pleasant café, close to closing time at about 4.45pm.The lady who served us was pleasant, and having ordered 3 teas, a latte, and a piece of cake (the last one left), we sat down. After 5 minutes or so, I was pleasantly surprised to find that the tea was brought out to us in some charming tea pots, with decent china cups. Tea tastes somehow nicer from china! The piece of cake was moistly delicious! We left happy, and with a lasting memory of the Sandwich Shop as a great place to have food and drink. Prices seemed good too!

We visited the Sandwich Shop and were VERY pleasantly surprised. The staff and service was great - nothing was to much trouble - and the staff did everything they could to please us as customers. The food and drinks we had were excellent.

The cafe sits on a corner and is very small, although they manage to fit in enough to seat about 20. The food is priced very reasonably and their cakes and scones are delicious. They also have a very good lunchtime menu, again priced very reasonably and delicious. Highly recommend this cafe.

Popped in here for a light bite the other afternoon and we both had the jacket potato with tuna. The jacket potato was on the small side but cooked perfectly.Coffee tasted fine and there is a nice bright feeling to the place.Toilet is out the back and basic but functional.Overall good place to sit back and watch the world go by.

A great little refreshment stop while in the centre of town. Quality food, friendly staff and such a nice selection at affordable prices. Parking is very close with just a two minute walk. Some really interesting people to talk to if you decide to sit outside, with a great view of the town square and the Guildhall. Thursday is market day in the square with a nice selection of local produce.

Lovely location, pretty interior and pleasantly decorated. But could be better. The food was tasty and nicely presented, but the toilet! Dingy, scruffy, needs some TLC and a deep clean. Shame really as otherwise it would be great.

This is a very pleasant little cafe in the heart of Sandwich, opposite the museum. We had an excellent pot of tea, a very nice piece of cake and a toasted tea cake, whilst waiting for our coach. Service was friendly and efficient. We liked the small exhibition of paintings by a local artist on display.

As we were in Sandwich we felt we had to stop here for said item. The sandwiches themselves were fine but the experience was tainted a little by the ordering experience. There are no menus, just items on the blackboard so the six of us had to decide whilst standing at the counter, much to the irritation of people seated nearby and standing behind. A better option would be to have menus then one of us could have gone and ordered for everyone. I was delighted to be able to order a completely vegan sandwich which was really the reason we stopped here.

Great "small" cafe where they are so tight on space in this listed building its a shame they don't take a table out as its so cramped especially for the couple table in front of the door. Although just a limited menu you will find something as all the usual suspects are there jacket potatoes,salads,sandwiches and selection of home made cakes. The large hot chocolate is to die for , piled high with marshmallows and cream!Make sure you have cash as they have no card facility's

Visited this establishment last summer with my sister for our summer visit too sandwich. We had scrambled egg on toast and both agreed it was the tastiest scrambled egg we had ever eaten.
