Had a lovely meal here, I had the salmon en croute and it was delicious. It’s fairly expensive but worth it as the food it so good. We booked as the pub isn’t that big and gets busy. It was a busy sunny evening and it did take us a long time for our order to be taken as people kept coming in from the garden to order but inside is table service and they didn’t get chance to come to us which was a shame. Got there at 6pm and didn’t leave till 8pm as service slow, but food is definitely worth it and staff and pub are lovely.

Really surprised by this pub as I hadn't been in for many years. It has only improved with age. Beautifully decorated and spotlessly clean. An extensive and imaginative menu on large chalkboards hangs on the wall. We didn't eat but will definitely be back to do so. Pretty well-kept sunny garden with plenty of seating. Great for couples, families and even large groups of friends. Large car park to the side makes this an ideal place for a stop at a traditional country pub.

Unfortunately we had a room right next to the kitchen, so it smelled of gas until the night. Despite the high temperatures, there was hardly any ventilation. No air conditioning. Team very nice so far, dinner very tasty. There were a lot of mosquitoes in the room that we had to get rid of first. Unfortunately, a bed was unstable until it almost collapsed. We wouldn't recommend it and wouldn't stay there again. There was a motion detector outside that was constantly going on, so we always had light in the room, at the front and to the side.

Arrived late and was working close by for the next two days. Warm welcome and the room I had was very spacious - great bathroom and looked like it had been recently refurbished. Took both my meals in the room and the food was excellent. The pub made up breakfast for the morning after, the night before which was a nice touch. The little things count for me and there were plenty here!

The cozy pub with several rooms in adjoining bungalows and parking spaces for caravans is highly recommended. Super clean and super friendly! The pub has a garden with benches and a small playhouse, great for letting children exercise. The rooms are very clean and modern, and the baby bed was also very well maintained. The food in the pub was really tasty, as well as the pub classics there was great fish! The atmosphere is cozy and the service is very friendly. However, a reservation in the evening is necessary and is worth it, even if you don't have a room here. As already described, there was a small breakfast tray for early birds with fruit, juice, muesli and cold milk, which was completely sufficient for us. We'd love to come back next time.

My wife fancied a cold beer in the garden. We stopped in here and wasn't disappointed. The welcome was lovely, the range of drinks was good, although more spiced rum would be appreciated. We sat in the garden which was well maintained and looked after. A lot of work had taken place here to make it a lovely place to sit and enjoy a cold drink. We ordered some food on a second thought. This didn't take a long time, but there was some very weird "salads" that accompanied the mains. These were not needed really. Would recommend and will be back again.

Also phones do not work at this pub which is ok for lots of people but when you have to be available at all times for personal reasons it’s now a big no from me when asking about there WiFi which was available in the past the lady was quite blunt saying it was for air bnb only now. Stayed here after a channel crossing. We usually stay at the Premier Inn up the road before a Chanel crossing but are sick of the sticky tables and poor service at the Brewers Fayre. So after a return journey and a long week of labour at our renovation project, we decided to try somewhere new. Staff upon arrival were friendly and informative, telling us everything we needed to know. The room was clean and quiet, despite being located next to the pub. We had a great dinner at the pub that evening, which had a lovely atmosphere and not a sticky table in sight! The food was excellent and the portions were just right. In fact as Northerners we highly recommend the fish and chips, the batter was crispy and really delicious. We were offered a free canapés of a spicy soup which was delicious. The breakfast was hearty and it had plenty of choice. The website does state that it is served from 9am which was fine for us after a long drive through France the previous day, we needed a lie in! So we will no longer subject ourselves to the premier inn, instead opting for this lovely little gem instead!

Visited yesterday evening 07/03/24 for a birthday meal and wasn't disappointed. Beautifully presented English country pub, clean, neat and well looked after. The food was fantastic, easily some of the best "pub grub' I've had in a long while and the service was spot on. Whilst not the most comprehensive menu about it seemed to cater for all tastes and pallets and the portion sizes were very generous. I started with the breaded whitebait which was superb. Main was the Trio of beef - sirloin, shin and meatball with mustard mash, again superb. Dessert I had the cheese board (TIP which they won't like me for!!! Share a cheese board between two people, I couldn't finish it all!!) My wife had a pub classic the beer battered fish n chips and Eton Mess for dessert. Both looked amazing and she said tasted wonderful. I will definitely return soon a few times and work my way through the menu!!! Easy 5 star

The Lydden Bell was such a wonderful experience for my mom and me. Our room was very comfortable and well kept, and the breakfast was delicious and cooked to order. The bathrooms were very clean and well taken care of, but the one we had was by no means accessible for those with mobility issues. (We didn't have any issues, but something to keep in mind if you are wheelchair bound or have issues slipping/falling) Sarah was such a friendly face every morning and she was very insightful on the area and culture of England. There is a bus stop right outside the hotel and for 4.00 you can get to and from Canterbury or Dover, meaning you don't have to deal with the traffic or parking of either town.

Picked up 2 take away meals. Fish and chips were very large portion. Cumberland sausage meal was 2 very small tasteless sausages with a dollop of mash filling half a polystyrene carton. The other polystyrene carton was filled with enough garden peas for 4 people rather than 2 but at least it was more full than the main course. I would not have paid £4.95 for the sausages & mash meal let alone £8.95. We live locally and wanted to support local business but after our experience today would think twice. Shame as staff very friendly and as said the fish & chips looked divine. A memorable meal for the wrong reasons......

August Bank holiday lunch, taking advantage of the last of the eat out help out scheme. I booked a couple of days in advance and had to wait for a promised call back as they were so busy. I had a call as promised and they could only fit us in the garden but said the weather looked ok and to ring and cancel if not as we would get wet. Told to wait outside until called and then asked to sanitise hands on entry. The weather was fine and the table was lovely and very well spaced out from the other tables, think I actually preferred it to being inside. We took a photo of the board as we passed through the pub as instructed as this was the menu. Lovely little shot sized complimentary spicy soup for starter and very good food. Brilliant onion rings, attentive friendly staff and FANTASTIC desserts!! The pub is set in countryside with views across fields and sheep grazing. Plenty of parking as next to village hall.

We had eaten at the Bell last year and the food was excellent. How things change! The pub remains pretty and the staff attentive and welcoming but the quality of the food is truly appalling. We opted for the usually fail-safe option of Sunday roast and chose beef, lamb and pork. I asked for the beef to be rare and my wife requested lamb to be well done. This turned it to be a complete waste of breath as the food arrived within 5 minutes of ordering and exhibited all the hallmarks of having been plated up in advance being lukewarm and unappetising. The vegetables followed the same dismal standard, the roast potatoes were suspiciously uniform and bore a startling resemblance to the boiled variety while the Yorkshire puddings were unexceptional and indisputably frozen. In summary, it was a dispiriting experience with all the culinary finesse of a 1970’s school canteen. I shall avoid eating at the Bell and strongly recommend that you consider doing the same.

Well... What can I say? I am absolutely disgusted with my visit today. I came here last year with my best friend and had an INCREDIBLE roast dinner. Me and my boyfriend had decided we would venture out to celebrate me finishing university. What a disaster. I rang up to see if there were any spare tables for me and him in the garden. The lady who answered had called me 'Jane' on the phone when in fact it's Jade. A simple mistake, I know. When we arrived at the pub, our booking had been lost... interesting as I only called them about 30 minutes prior to arriving. It all seemed well and clean, owing to the changes they've had to make due to this pandemic. When we FINALLY were offered a drink, we were told that their soft drink pump had broken so we couldn't have any fizzy off tap. My boyfriend is diabetic and I am on slimming world, so we wanted something relatively sugar free! She didn't really offer us much and didn't provide us with ANY form of a menu. She then asked her colleague if there were any leftover cans down in the cellar... Seemed promising. She came up, with a smile and plonked two DIRTY cans of out of date diet coke in front of us. Obviously, we didn't know that they were out of date at this point. The only reason that we had checked was that the top layer of the can be covered in dust, dirt, hair, and JUST YUCK! I turned the can over to see the expiry date and in fact, it had expired in January 2019. Instantly, this had put me and my partner off eating in this setting. If they think that little of us as customers to serve us that form of refreshment. What sort of food would we have been dished up and how would it have been stored? My partner was starting to have a hypo and the lady who had served us didn't even acknowledge us, so we left! What a waste of an hour.

MORE AT TripAdvisor

My partner booked this to treat me after a really stressful time. We have otherwise been avoiding eating out due to having to be careful with money at the moment due to our upcoming wedding. And it was a lovely touch for my partner to want to give me a nice mid week destress. Living in Shepherdswell for the last year we have been wanting to try the restaurant for a while. I told my partner to mention my tastecard so that it was an affordable visit as he doesn't have money to be spending on me right now. Had we not had the tastecard we would have gone elsewhere or only had one course.Long story short my partner forgot to mention the tastecard when he called to book. Though this is only a rule to alert the restaurant in advance to the discount and not a universal request for all restaurants, many are very happy to accept walk ins and honour the card as long as it is in a day that they offer it on. We had a nice meal and the food was good. My partner really loved his food and was very happy. We decided to have three courses and had a lovely evening. We were able to sit in the dog friendly side of the restaurant with our dog and one of the staff brought him some ham whilst we enjoyed our starters. The staff were lovely and the pub ismtself very cute and cosy. The difficult and saddening part happened when we asked for the bill and reminded them about the taste card. The waitress seemed absolutely fine and after some delay came back and said we couldn't use it as there was no record of the card with the booking. I realised that my partner had obviously forgotten to mention it after all. We didn't want to make a scene so just reluctantly had to pay. If it had been me paying and expecting to have an expensive midweek bill then that would have been less of a problem. But I' generally shocked and saddened on behalf of my partner who clearly couldn't afford the full bill as it was. And I wouldn't have chosen to have three courses had I have known in advance or been paying as usual. I know some people will absolutely say that it's our fault because my partner forgot to mention it on the booking but it is a very small loophole the restaurant have used here and has very little genuine reason for existing. The tastecard website faqs exolains that it's so staff can calculate the bill correctly and not have to recalculate it. Plenty of restaurants don't even ask for a pre booking and I know we have had meals before not mentioning the card at all until the end and it's been honoured every time. The shame is that I'm embarrassed on behalf of my partner and surprisingly shocked by the restaurant falling on that loophole for a quick win. During the meal we had discussed how we would be looking forward to coming back lots in future given we live close (incidentally without the tastecard as it runs out tomorrow and we haven't renewed because it was a free one). Now I can safely say I really just don't want to go back because its left a sour note on what was otherwise a lovely night. Good solid quality food, though slightly overpriced when compared to peers like the Granville in Canterbury (where they do honour the card even if you mention it for the first time when the bill appears). So please do go to this pub for some good food and lovely cute atmosphere but we unfortunately won't be.

We booked a table this morning for Sunday lunch , we had over an hour and a half drive but my partner used to live in that area and when he used to go there said the food was lovely so we thought it worth the drive . We arrived about an hour early and were happy just to sit and have a drink . We waited at the bar for about 20 mins while one of the girls who was covering the bar completely ignored us serving two groups of people that walked in whilst we were waiting to be served . The bar area wasn’t that large so unsure how we could of not been seen standing with no drinks and trying to get her attention . There was a group of people standing next to us that had ordered bar food . One gentleman had a bhaji scotch egg that was completely raw inside ( he also commented on this himself and left it ) when we said we were giving up and going he said ‘ don’t blame you , good move !) I went to the bar girl to say she had completely ignored us , serving everyone that was walking in after us , I said we weren’t staying for our meal booking and would look elsewhere and she looked completely disinterested . I definitely won’t be returning , the menu choice looked nice but the food served up not quite so appetising .

Grill Night has 9.95 specials, all well worth the trip to the cozy pub in Lydden. Non-grill night specials are equally wonderful. Entrees and desserts change nightly and are posted on a board. Ample servings of delicious entrees and sides. Chicken & steak are excellent. Kids menu has a variety of kid-friendly choices.

Lovely little pub with a great menu, and the curried vegetable soups that come before your meal are really nice. It also has a good size garden with seating outside, and they had a bouncy castle this summer.

I very rarely in 400+ reviews give a 5 star rating, but this pub ticked all the right boxes. Found it by accident, trying to avoid Dover which had traffic jams. Nice village pub,£13 got a 2 course lunch, good choices, tasty items, good and fast service.

Lovely village pub in the Kent country side! very much reminds me of those old war time films when the local pub was full of Spitfire pilots, Yanks, and the old piano playing along, close your eyes and you can see the Lancaster's and fighter planes roaring overhead or see the local Bobby cycling down the lane ah memories! good food ,fine ale, in a lovely old pub, seems to be a hub of village life, and deserves the locals support, what's not to like? just one tip to mine host ,smile a bit more!

I had the mussels to start and would recommend them. Next I had lamb and my partner had seabass, both wonderful. Very helpful and friendly staff in a cosy pub in a nice little village.

This weekend we decided to visit this quaint restaurant out in the countryside. We both chose lamb for our Sunday roast. The meal came with a nice selection of fresh vegetables and a lovely light Yorkshire pudding. We followed this up with two delicious desserts. In fact it was difficult to make a choice as they all looked so tasty. Excellent value for money and we will return again soon

Yesterday we enjoyed lunch at this lovely restaurant. It was a nice traditional public house and you could also eat outside in the gardens. The food was very nicely cooked and great value for money. The desserts were wonderful and we had trouble choosing what to have. Delicious! Looking forward to a follow up visit again soon!

We had a great meal at the lydden Bell Canterbury Road last evening. Booked early because we didn't want a late night initially as expected then became very popular and busy throughout the evening. Tastey, whokesome meal from the main menu, i had lamb, my cousin and mum had the chicken all very good and well presented with side dishes. My daughter had the grill, said the steak was flavorsome but abit too dry on the outside. Overall the meal was great, service speedy and organised . Environment clean, toilets immaculate! Thanks lee (Barman) for lending me your glasses made things more clearer throughout the evening! And I could see my food Lol - most enjoyable and as a treat they gave us a scratch card and we won a bottle of house wine for our next visit! Result! see you again soon The Bell Lydden.

Let me start by saying that I am a vegetarian and do not have high expectations of any veggie resteraunt meals. Nevertheless, it has been a long time since I was this underwhelmed or felt so ripped off. I ordered a cauliflower steak which at £14, I thought might be a bit special. I also assumed it would come with the same vegetable accompaniment as all the normal steaks.

A bad taste was left after a good meal! Booked the Wednesday Special (6 of us) - Grills advertised on the website at £9.95 each for the specials, one of which was rump steak and 1/2 rack ribs. Two of us asked if we could have just the ribs rather than the steak and were told this was OK. The food was good - The bill was disappointing - we had plenty of drinks, beers gins and a bottle of wine all reasonable - but the bill showed a) 4 grills @ £10.95 each ( not as on website) and 2 grills at 14,95. A polite enquiry ascertained that the two ribs ordered were not off the grills available that night and were thus charged at the normal menu price. However there were no menus available on the table so a casual remark that "you might have told as at the time" was met with a stormy exchange and £10.00 huffily removed from the bill. Worse followed when this waiter/manager refused to acknowledge us for the rest of the evening and we were ignored on leaving. 6 potential regulars upset and a bad taste lost.

I recently took my friend for a long awaited birthday treat. She hadn’t a clue where we were going and on arrival said that she had never eaten there before. This was my third visit to the Lydden Bell for a meal and as previously, I wasn’t disappointed. There is a really good atmosphere and a warm welcome from the staff. We both choose from the special menu board which is chalked up on the wall. We had to stand to see the menu as our allocated table wasn’t within view of the board which was quite a shame. I felt that we were both a little uncomfortable as we were standing overlooking a table of people who were already eating. We made our choices and then sat down. The meal was delightful. Starters of Baked Camembert, followed by a Chicken dish with Fondant Potato and seasonal vegetables. For Dessert we had Lemon Tart with Raspberry Sorbet with a Raspberry sauce. The only fault was the Filo pastry the Lemon Tart was in was so hard that we had to pick it up with our fingers to eat it. No way was it going to be cut with a spoon and dessert fork. Other than that, an excellent meal. Price wise, not something I would want to spend such an amount on a weekly basis, but great for a special occasion.

We called into the Lydden Bell without pre booking. We had a table for four with drinks. The menu was very interestingly displayed. The food portions were very large and well worth the money. The dinning experience was very nice and all four of us give this eating experience a 5 star rating

I initially visited this pub on a week day in January for a business lunch. The food was very very good and I wanted to take my family back which I did on a Sunday. I was also given a gift voucher for a free starter with any main meal purchased. We arrived at around 6.40pm for a table booked for 7pm. The food was ok but disappointing - especially the Sunday lunch . The roasted potatoes felt as if they had been warmed up - perhaps in a fat fryer... who knows and the Yorkshire puddings were burnt. The ladies serving were very polite and helpful but we felt they were overworked - we did not finish eating until past 9pm! When we went to pay I presented my voucher for the free starter only to be told that this voucher was not valid on a Sunday. So after a mediocre meal I was less than happy. On the voucher it said it was subject to terms and conditions. I have looked at their web site to see if the terms and conditions are shown but I could not find! Clearly I feel this should have been written on the voucher - especially as it says on the voucher "Serving great good 7 days a week".
