The Sands End in Hammersmith and Fulham

Best mussels we have ever had and the sea food was fantastic. One of the best meals we have had for a long time.

This Bistro Pub has recently been taken over by a Brewery and is now renamed "The Fulham Arms". The interior has been totally refurbished and looks much nicer. On Sunday I called in for a glass of the excellent draft ale and was impressed by the number of staff and the hive of activity. Later in the week I had a business lunch with an important associate and was sad to find that we were the only people having lunch. The choice of food was impressive and our main dish was excellent. The service was friendly and efficient and provided that the quality of the food continues to be good I will return frequently. I just hope that they cook the meals in their kitchens and don't heat up the dishes that are delivered from an outside source.

Went to meet my son for lunch. Fairly unremarkable food. Service very slow, pub was not busy! Had to ask for main as took exceptionally long to come. Food arrived with insect on garnish ! Management were not remotely concerned about delay or unwelcome addition to the main. Will not be returning.

Brilliant staff, quality food and drinks! The ambience is very typical of a neighbourhood pub. The quiz night can be quite busy so if you like a bit of fun, I’d suggest you book in advance! Don’t forget to try to famous scotch eggs!

Nicest meal I've had for ages. Ceasar salad with chicken was really tasty. Well cooked chicken, fresh anchovied, lovely egg, crisp lettuce but too cold. Great chips and smashing ice cream including coffe which is not easy to get. Disappointing that the cask ale was not on. Nice loos,

Not a place for solo travellers. They do not welcome solo diners. Go figure!?!? I've certainly never known anything like it before. Given that they are very much a minority, I won't feel like a second class citizen who doesn't deserve to eat! My review was initially rejected by TA as 'not being relevant to travellers', so have attached the following screenshot incase I wasn't trusted. Booking direct on the Sands End website was also exactly the same as this, but did not make such a clear screenshot. As for being relevant, if there are times you especially need to know what you're getting into, one of them is as a solo traveller.

The Sands End has been by local for 18 years. I have tried and tried in the past year to keep giving it a go after too many bad experiences. But have to say. The business has just crashed and almost burned. Long gone are the days of a packed Sands End pub daily. Now it’s virtually empty. You can see why! Grumpy, uninterested staff. Expensive drinks. And shockingly bad frozen food! It is a huge shame as I have been a regular for to long. But unforgivable constant bad experience! Someone needs to do something to get this legend of a place, back to the talk of the town!! It can’t be that hard??

The food was amazing and a lovely atmosphere, I would definitely recommend the crab arancini. I will be going back :)

£7+ for your standard largers on tap, food is dreadful and the staff are very unfriendly. I strongly recommend you give your business to anyone else.

This pub has been a useful place where we would go, knowing that we could get a good meal or a tasty lunch time snack with a fine pint of draft ale. It has recently been taken over by a firm of brewers. I ordered two of the "Snacks" that were on offer which would have been enough food to go with the pint of ale. The sausage roll was a disaster since it must have been around for many hours in the kitchen. The pastry was dry and burnt and the meat equally dry and very tired. The other snack was just as disappointing. What a pity and so disappointing as the pint of draft ale was the only pleasant part of the meal. The staff of two tried to be helpful but they need much more training.

Didn't know anything about this place, but were in the area looking for somewhere to get a meal and drinks. Managed to get a walk-in table for four on a Friday night. Enjoyed drinks and a 3 course meal. Cask beer was good and well kept. The food was absolutely lovely, with spot on portion sizes. Service was good and pricing was reasonable. Overall we had a pleasant evening.

Booked a table for three which we were shown to and ignored for 10 minutes. Eventually we asked if we could order drinks and apologetic lady said we could. We received said drinks and ordered our food - which I must say was excellent. Way better than standard pub fare. Service switched three times during our 1 hour stay. Apologetic lady 10/10. Heavy handed , food slamming French barman 6/10 and truculent younger barman 3/10 who added 4 drinks to the bill that we didn’t have and made no apology. Scam? I would like to think not - but who the hell doesn’t apologise in this circumstance! I’d go back for the food, but not sure I’d trust the service.

it use to be a bit ruff in here but he has priced them all out i would bring my mum here now nice wine selection food over priced and not up to much £10.50 for a scotch egg that looked like it had been there a month

I wish I could live next door to this pub. The friendly staff, amazing food and selection of drinks are all incredible.Unfortunately I live out of London. But every time I visit nearby i always come to The Sands End. The staff are very professional and it’s quite clear they love working here. I’m always welcomed with a smile and nothing is ever a problem, it’s almost like I’m family. On Saturday i booked a table for three. The atmosphere was just right, many friendly people relaxed and having a good time. Our food was amazing. My daughter loved it as she had a great selection of Vegan meals to choose from. I’m definitely eating here next time I’m in London.

Having visited this gastropub on a few occasions having had a good experience we booked a table for our friends who we’re visiting London.I asked for a nice table preferably a round table I knew was in a nice position.“Don’t worry was the response on making the booking well in advance we’re not too busy tonight we’ll make sure you have a great table .Yeah ! right next to the men’s toilet, great view for our guests , busy doors, constantly being used by men at the bar.Won’t be back in a hurry, especially when 2 lovely tables we’re left unoccupied all night.Didn’t want to make a fuss but don’t say something you cannot or won’t deliver.

From start to finish a wonderful experience! They catered for 16 of us with out fault. The atmosphere was warm, relaxed and friendly. The food was delicious and the staff couldn't do enough for us. I would definitely recommend this rare find!

Thanks to Alan and his team we had just the loveliest lunch. Cote de boeuf was a huge hit and we were all looked after impeccably. Even with small children we managed a 3 hour lunch!

I love the Sands End pub, when I first visited the pub 2 years ago, I felt it wasnt the friendliest. Since Garry the manager joined he has made the place a different experience, everyone feel so welcome and he introduces everyone to each other, there is such an amazing community feel and I have met so many lovely new friends. I look forward to coming to the pub to see the friendly faces! Definitely recommend the most fab pub experience, food is excellent, service is amazing!

Decided to have dinner here as we were staying nearby and had walked past numerous times.We were very well taken care of by all the staff. Great selection of drinks and a menu that catered for all of us. Beautiful decor and mood as well, with candles and ample space.The food was outstanding with service to match. The desserts included one of the best cheesecakes ever. We stayed for a few gins and had a great evening!

My first time here was pleasurable, the atmosphere was very warm and welcoming. I received great pleased by the staff, I order three courses and each of them came at a good time. The quality of the place was recommendable and I would happily go back again.

Sands end is my local pub and I come here very often. Food is great here and very nice atmosphere. Service is excellent and if you’re being served by Allan, you’re in for a great night. Definitely recommend to drop by if you’re in neighbourhood.

Made a booking at The Sands End at the start of November for Christmas Day. Had all the communication from various emails etc. We were a family of 4 plus 2 elderly grandparents. We had made a specific request to sit next to some friends whose daughter was the same age as ours. This was all agreed in the email chain. We turn up at 2pm and the manager informs us there is no record of our booking. We now had to wait outside in the cold on Christmas Day whilst we dealt with the manager. We showed him all the emails. Only thing he could offer was to wait for another table to be free away from our friends. This was a 45 mins wait. We get to the table and there is not enough cutlery. Knives and forks the wrong way round. No Christmas crackers...we had to ask later for these to come to the table. The manager tried his best to appease us. Felt as if we were being ushered out as it got close to 5pm. Whole experience for a special day on Christmas was incredibly poor. Manager gave us one round of free drinks but then had the cheek to put the service charge on our bill. I paid as I didn’t want to cause a fuss given my family were all saddened by their experience of Christmas Day. Manager tried to give me some story about how bookings are made centrally...blah, blah. But for £75 per head it was a complete waste of time and ruined our Christmas. Half our meals were luke warm. Having lived in the area all my life and been to the pub many times this was absolutely atrocious. We have had no one from the company contact us to apologise to us formally. We have been left with little choice but to write this review.

Where do I even start? Met up with a single friend and a couple with two children for Sunday roast. We arrived at 12:30, so the restaurant only had a couple of tables occupied...and it still took almost 30 minutes to order drinks-and another 15 to deliver (most of) them-the final pint of ale turned up at the end of the meal.

My partner surprised me with a dinner here and the food was amazing! Service always with a smile and the function room was the perfect size for all my family and friends. Would highly recommend! 👍🏼

Came into the Sands End for our xmas party today and loved every minute! Stunningly set up room, wow! Fioe Gras Parfait, Confit Duck, Xmas sticky toffee pudding to finish me off. The rest of my team enjoyed there selections too. Simply delicious! Suitably washed down with a round of Espresso Martinis! Thank you Sands End for a great xmas party x

when I discovered this place two years ago, I realized that even in the most crowded place, there could be a chef with a real attitude to food ... and not only to it ... but also to customers...every time I'm in the neighborhood I visit it, I even make work lunches with my staff ...but let me tell you about my last three visits, for each of them I made a reservation by phone ...

The Sand's End is my local pub and I've been coming here for several years now. I specifically booked a lunch with some friends here last Sunday, as I ( wrongly thought) it would be good & reliable. Wow. How wrong I was. The service was shocking. It took approximately an hour for our food to arrive. I went for the roast, which by all accounts was ok. 2 friends had the cod. Feedback was the sauce was watery, with no substance or flavour. One of my friend's children had the burger. Completely overcooked and the brioche bun was stale.

Found The Sands End some weeks back and love coming here. We came on Sunday for a family roast and love the gorgeous food and staff!!! Took my sister in law and her husband this Sunday and we were not disappointed. Despite the other reviews we had a fantastic experience. You could see the team we extremely busy with a pack Sunday crowd but still attentive with us. For sure we will be back super soon.... oh and the scotch eggs are the best in town!!!!

I have been going to the Sandsend for years. For a pub, the food has been outstanding. The place has always been friendly and vibrant. The odd Chelsea football star enjoying a quiet supper at the next table.

Tenía carne de cerdo frita en sartén, que era muy agradable, seguido por el tablero de ajedrez, no como en el menú que faltaba uvas y no parecía inspirador, mirando algunas de las fotos anteriores parece que me cambiaron poco pero todavía era un buen restaurante y volvería

Recientemente volví a la zona y apareció aquí esta noche. Lo recordaba vagamente como un pub medio decente, pero nos quedamos impresionados. Definitivamente ha subido un nivel. Solo quería un trago pero me quedé por un bocado. La comida era excelente y el personal era fantástico, muy cálido y amable, a pesar del ajetreado comercio.

This in my view is one of the best pubs in London, amazing atmosphere and great food. I couldn’t recommend it more highly.

Strongly recommend this place. Visited it for dinner with my wife and 2 teenage kids. Very, very friendly and helpful staff - we felt being part of young locals massively visiting the place. Great place to feel this London neighbourhood!

I am coeliac and can’t have gluten. I spoke to every single member of staff to make sure that I can have the chicken that is actually declared gluten free on the menu ( marked with a gf) and all three told me it’s gluten free.

They really have laid this pub out perfectly. The front half is a quiet hip pub with scrubbed tables and a couple on the street. The back half is laid out as a quieter restaurant. The same menu and table service is available in both areas. We all opted for the flank steak which was delicious, served with a choice of sauces and fries. We shared sides of spinach, tomato salad and courgette. This was followed by ice cream (great value), cheese board (loved the black one) and a very chocolatey, creamy bad-but-good thing in a glass. Service was attentive and prompt: just a perfect mid-week evening meal. Not bad value for Fulham, either.

We have been using the Sands Ends for years when we visit our son and wife who live locally. The atmosphere is always relaxed with friendly quick service. The food is always varied, and if you just want a bar snack their scotch eggs and sausage rolls are excellent !

Wow what a delight. Beef Subday lunch. juciy full of flavour and wanting more. Roast potatoes cooked to perfection and covered in the most interesting tasting budding gravey ever invented. The vegtables were just piping hot with the must cruchingness that it desrves. With the attention of the caaring staff i found this little gem tucked awaj in a Fulham back street a delight. well done to all. i found my pot off gold at the end of my rainbow. John OB

We have lived in the area for 3 years now and this used to be our go to pub with great food and a friendly atmosphere. I liked it so much I booked for a birthday meal a year ago which was shocking, we were left with empty glasses for or entire meal when the wine did not arrive and were greeted with distain when there were 5 of us instead of 6, the waitress had to ask management if this was ok?! After this experience my partner and I tried again on another occasion and our order was not put through correctly resulting in an hour long wait for food. After these two bad experiences it took a lot of encouragement to persuade my partner to try again, however we did on Sunday...

We went for dinner on Saturday and were amazed to find the place half empty. Apparently the kitchen has been closed for refurbishment but it's now open and doing the business. Everything was excellent, for carnivore and vegetarian alike. Since it was our first time here I can't say whether it's an improvement, but it was a meal to give gastropubs a good name. The waitress was delightful and the ambience too. I'm sure this will fill up in no time, so I'd recommend booking now and beating the rush. Memo to the pub: one tiny quibble... I know an Irish coffee isn't on the menu, but you should be able to make one, especially when you're not busy. You still get a 5-star review though.

I had the terrine to start and then the sea bass fillet. Thought you couldn't go wrong with that. But it didn't seem to matter what you ordered, the kitchen was not up to it. Maybe it was a bad night. Head chef off sick?

Great little pub. The staff are really lovely, very warm and friendly. Food is superb I would advise that you book especially on a Sunday as it gets really busy. It’s dog friendly meaning you can take your pooch with you. Accessible to wheelchairs. All in all a really lovely pub.

Llegó a almorzar y me sorprendió gratamente este pequeño pub, tenía una sensación realmente hogareña al respecto.

Es interesante cómo funciona todo: salíamos con amigos que solían vivir en Francia y ahora viven en Fulham, y seleccionamos un pub / restaurante con personal francés y una cocina francesa por pura casualidad. ¿Cuáles son las probabilidades de esto? Normalmente, evito la comida francesa en Londres (también en italiano), ya que lo real en un país en general es mucho mejor. Aquí el toque francés brilló e incluso cambiamos de idioma cuando hablamos con los camareros.

Food used to be best in the area. Now it’s empty with a terrible pub steak. (£25 sirloin) no taste, and slightly slow service.

Came for lunch with my family and had a really good time ! The place is cosy and sweet. My son and my daughter enjoy it and they make food for kids !! And the manager have been really careful about anything missing !

Came down for dinner with a couple of friends last night. The food was lovely, I had the duck leg which was crispy yet moist with the gravy. My friends had the beef with a very tasty risotto. The scotch eggs are amazing. We had a nice chat with Kylian and Tonniee. The atmosphere was what you expect of a good pub on a weekday. Will be coming back soon !

Pub très convivial, accueil sympa et propreté impeccable. Carte traditionnelle Anglaise, bon choix de vins. En ce qui concerne le Roast du dimanche je vous avoue en avoir connu des meilleurs mais bon pour autant je ne dirais pas de ne pas y aller. Rapport qualité/prix correct

What an awesome night at The Sands End!! Amazing food and service with a team that was 2 down. Tonniee in particular was great, really attentive and made sure we had everything we needed. Only fault was the small scallop starter which was over priced and under whelming . Other than that, great pub!

Food was terrible and very expensive. Filthy window frames and grubby looking interior. An all together very disappointing night out - Shame it used to be a good pub with good food.

We came as a group of friends on Easter Monday. We were having a few drinks in the afternoon when one lady came and, despite being drunk/ antagonistic, berated us to the extent we left. We asked the staff to intervene but they favoured the business of one mad lady over us. We usually come quite regally but after this involvement will come less so.

I spent Saturday afternoon drinking here and thoroughly enjoyed myself. The staff were friendly and polite. The young man behind the bar was particularly enthusiastic and made some splendid cocktails for my fiancee. I drank Directors and several pints of Guiness. The clientele were all nice people and I liked the fact that the pub let dogs in. At one point there were five dogs in the pub! ha ha ha

Moved in the area a month ago, I heard a lot about this cute little pub. I finally decided to try the brunch last Saturday and I had such a great time! The food was delicious and the staff were very friendly, at every moment they were looking after me to make me feel like I was at home. Just moved into the area and was quite chuffed to see this place, looks great from outside so decided to go there for lunch. The staff are more interested in chatting amongst themselves than giving the costumer an excellent service. I sat there waiting for someone to serve me, A young man gave me eye contact and walked straight pass with acknowledging I was even there.

Visited many times over recent years when in the area on business and always had a good experience. Today was no exception. The scallop starter was delicious as was the cod main and side of peas and lettuce. The lemon tart was excellent. Our server, Tonniee, was really pleasant and helpful.

¡No podría amar The Sands End más, no podría ser más perfecto! ! ! La comida es sencilla y deliciosa, el personal es muy atento y amable y la decoración es mínima pero acogedora. Recientemente visitamos y sí, al igual que todos los demás fueron mal informados en la factura ya que los precios en el menú no reflejaban los precios en el recibo. El personal parece estar fuera de su profundidad y no está motivado para preocuparse, pusieron el orden equivocado, lo que es un error bastante fácil si estuviera ocupado, sin embargo, les llevó más de 20 minutos corregir el problema. Sin disculpas, parecían evitar activamente la mesa hasta que salió mi nuevo plato. Solía poder visitar este establecimiento y hacer preguntas sobre el vino, ahora a nadie parece importarle. Este nuevo gerente general no se preocupa por los estándares básicos o la higiene o, como en otras revisiones, el manejo adecuado de quejas.

They overcharged us by £35. We only noticed later, when we called the manager was quite rude, claimed we had read the menu wrong and we should have checked the bill properly before paying. So if you do go to Sands End, make sure you check the bill very carefully for overcharges. Better still go somewhere that charges you correctly and takes responsibility if they make a istake!

Huge disappointment. There are so many other much nicer pubs around that area. I would have given them 3 stars for the food if the service and other important things were up to standard. Very noisy, very expensive and extremely rude. I will not be going back.

Reading through other lower star reviews, it seems overcharging the bill is not an unusual event in this pub restaurant. What makes it worse is that the manager seems to think it's customer's fault to pay the bill and notice it afterwards. According to him, we were given the time to check the bill and didn't spot the mistake and that was our fault. He sounded as if he is doing a favour for me for giving a refund for overcharging.

You stumble across The Sands End while walking along Stephendale Road, not far from Wandsworth Bridge.

I often drink in The Sands End which offer a selection of ales, lagers and a depth of gin selections.

When the word pub and London are in the same sentence ,my expectations dip. However , The Sands End was a very pleasant surprise. An varied and extensive menu- don't miss the scotch eggs- well cooked and presented food served by friendly staff. The burger main course perhaps could be avoided- lacked taste. Overall our party enjoyed the experience.

A group of 8 of us decided to go to 'The Sands End' for a Christmas catch up before the holidays so I decided to book a table for a Sunday afternoon. Non of the group had been here before and we were looking forward to this due to the great first impressions. The start of the meal was off to a good start after settling in to a couple of drinks and waiting for our food.

After the usual debate about where to eat I expressed a preference to revisit this gastro pub I had last been to in September.My stonebass fillet was cooked to perfection, the sausage and mash were as good as before, and whilst our vegetarian found something on the menu it’s only because he asked for meat not to be included in the dish he went for.Another most enjoyable evening with family

I have to say this place does it right for Sunday lunch, its delicious. The beef is yummy and the food is hot, tasty and presented well. However not so good for dinner, the service isn't too great an the food isn't as good at night.

Booked for a group Christmas dinner as followed on Instagram for a long time and had been very excited to go. I left feeling totally embarrassed about my choice of venue. The Manager and Deputy Manager should not work in a customer-facing role and really let the restaurant down.

Having heard many positive recommendations about Sands End, an opportunity finally arose to try it out. We were certainly not disappointed. We all loved our meal, I had the monkfish and prawn Navarin, delicious. Interesting menu with a sensible wine list. Service was excellent and friendly. We will be back.

Had a delightful lunch here today, excellent Foie Gras pate to start and a superb Duck Leg with lentils, both available gluten free, followed by a gluten free sticky toffee pudding. Well done to the chef.

Mi mesa favorita es la mesa 8, un rincón acogedor. Llegué el fin de semana, el árbol de Navidad está arriba y todos estaban de humor festivo. Me sirvió Mollie, que siempre da un servicio fantástico, y es encantadora y amable. Comenzamos con los mejillones que eran deliciosos seguidos por el cerdo! ¡Guauu! I love this place. I have never had a bad meal or service. The food is lovely. The scallops are delicious! Every visit a treat. The choice of wines is great. Service is friendly and attentive. Love love love.
