Lovely pub near the Thames.very friendly.good beer.

Very much enjoyed our dinner at this traditional pub by the river. Two of us had the oyster mushroom & chickpea burger which came with excellent fries - delicious. The third had the special which was BBQ pork ribs - a fine plateful. Nice Brixton Coldharbour lager. Very friendly helpful service, especially when without being asked, they moved us to a different table when they realised that a large group we were next to was quite noisy. Definitely recommended.

Always loved this place. Quite traditional, nice open fire, get there early to bag the seats. Really friendly staff. Food very good quality. Good in both winter, and in summer with great outdoor space.

Este es un pub increíble junto al río Támesis. Organicé nuestro almuerzo de Navidad de tres platos aquí para 27 personas por segundo año consecutivo y no podría haber sido mejor. La comida es excelente y el personal es amable y hospitalario, siempre haciendo un esfuerzo adicional para asegurar que su clientela esté feliz. Sin duda volveremos!

Took the family in for a pub lunch - and WHAT a lunch. Great range of beers at the bar, and the menu while not huge was very tempting. And it was all excellent - the pies were great, the fish and chips excellent and the chicken succulent. The salt and pepper squid starters were tasty and the pork belly bites just sinful! A lovely pub enhanced by great food!

Nearby the Thames, à huge Beer garden. Was open Christmas day. Cool to have a beer after à walk.

Food was excellent but there was a safety issue worth mentioning. I did complete a complaint form online a week ago but as I did not receive a reply, I will paste it here: After having lightly sprained my foot the day before, I attended The Black Lion pub for Sunday lunch with a large group of friends. As I walked through the door a large heavy piece of metal fell across the entryway - and landed on my injured foot. I'm sure the multiple staff members behind the bar can attest to how loudly I yelled from the pain and unfortunately used some colourful language. From the look and weight of it, I assume that this piece of metal is what is used to bar the inside of the pub door after closing. I am struggling to understand why something that is such a hazard was left there - not only injuring someone accidentally but also the potential for any drunken idiot to use it as a weapon. One of those accompanying me helped me to my seat and they got some ice from bar staff, which they ask for. At no point did a staff member apologise or even check on me. I quite like the pub and have been for many meals there, so I was shocked at this. I would suggest that item not be kept there in future, as it could do some serious damage. I would also suggest that staff be more mindful.

Un pub junto al río en el extremo más tranquilo de la orilla del río Hammersmith, el León Negro es conocido como el 'local' del escritor Alan P Herbert - allá por principios del siglo XX - y antes de eso por su conexión con el Fantasma Hammersmith. Hoy en día es un espléndido bar gastronómico y con buen ambiente. Tenía salchicha y puré de Cumberland que cayó muy bien. Mi amiga tenía pastel de pollo y puerro (creo que era) que era de tal tamaño que tuvo problemas para terminarlo (un buen problema para tener, en realidad). Cuando la gente habla de los mejores pubs de Hammersmith a menudo pasan por alto este, viviendo su mejor vida entre la A 4 (que realmente corta la ciudad por la mitad) y el río, casi en Chiswick. Pero ve allí, es un buen lugar.

Absolutely wonderfully British pub! Great booze, great bar snacks, wonderful food, friendly staff and an awesome environment!!! Will definitely be coming back!

Lucky folks who know about this pub. Warm and cozy on a rainy day. The chicken, leek and mushroom pie came with carrots, hericots verte, sautéed cabbage, and perfect mashed potatoes. It was delicious. We ate at 16 pubs in 16 days and this was the best one.

Posh middle class bar staff who unfortunately don't like working class people in there pub the venue is tiny smelly and very unwelcome if your not local if your planning to have an event either wedding funeral birthday please avoid unfortunately il never get back the time ive wasted visiting this extremely arrogant middle class overpriced pub

Amazing pub with excellence in everything, and some historic skittles thrown in, unique and great fun. Beautiful beer garden for long summer lunches after an awesome walk along the edge of the Thames. Superb!

There are so many pubs in London and I didn't have time to try them all. My family and I were so glad that we decided to try the Black Lion. Laman the bar man was also our waiter and he was welcoming, efficient and informative. Always there when your pint got low, but never hovering or intrusive. The food was delicious and well considered, but not fussy. Next time I go I plan on sitting out on the patio.

I used to think the white lion was the worst ratio of price to quality pub I London until I went here. Genuinely the worst flavours and quality of food I’ve ever had for the price paid. The food was dull, cheap and of a horrific quality. For reference if my house mate throws away a chicken wing I’ll happily retrieve it from the bin, but non of us could even finish the last wing off here. No one understood wine behind the bar and when you spend £14 for a glass of £1.50 wine you at least expect some knowledge of it. I will attach a picture the blue cheese sauce and let you make your own kind of the flavour because it looks better than it tasted… yeah….

The black lion is a nice pub on Chiswick mall that has a large garden, offering outdoor dinning and drinks. Their Sunday roast was really generous in portions and tasted well. There are lots of seating areas and is very animal friendly. We had the the roast beef, Sunday roast pork and lamb shank. Their chicken was sold out. All went down well in the cauliflower cheese. All came with huge portions of sides! June 24 - Came back again and it was great. We booked out the Orangery for a small gathering of around 40 people for a sunday roast. The team was great and very helpful. Would highly recommend if you are looking for a nice space for lunch or dinner with a large group! Thanks Jola!

the bar manager was a bit grumpy and at first they sent us across road to have coffee. but then proceeded to make other diners coffee but Roast was very tasty.

Stopped here for a couple of hours after walking the Thames Path, North Bank from Kew. I had a couple of pints of Amstel and ate the Buffalo Chicken Wings with blue cheese dip and watercress and fries. Very nice food (A little expensive: £11 for 4 wings + £5 for Fries! + £6.35 per pint, but I suppose about average for the area.) The food was lovely (though I would have like more "blue" in the blue cheese dip, it was more like sour cream), but overall impressive place to sit outside on the patio in the Summer or inside during the colder months. I suspect you will need to book for meals, so check out their website. I note that the prices on their website are less than in the venue, so they haven't updated them yet.

Doing up our flat so no kitchen . Ate here three times at the weekend and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves each time . The staff our super friendly and welcoming , the food is delicious and plentiful . Hope to see you all in June for a family get together .

Ordered a hazy IPA that I know really well as my local serves it and was served something completely different. They’ve obviously tapped the wrong keg but god forbid a woman tells them they’re wrong. Will not be coming again. Edited: I spoke to a really considerate female member of staff who did in fact confirm they had tapped the wrong beer. It’s just a shame I didn’t actually get an apology.

Great food, amazing staff, beautiful pub that is well worth stopping into when walking around this fantastic area. Had the chicken roast and it was both generous and so tasty. The chicken was super tender and every side was delicious. A big shout out to Rob who works there- fantastic staff member. Could not have been more friendly and helpful. Dogs very welcome.

Travelled down for the boat race. Of course it was very busy and not really anywhere to stand to enjoy the music. Blonde, 30s waitress had a face like a slapped botty and barked at us to move as she clearly didn’t want us to stand where we were. Sorry love, I’ll go and pay £8 a pint somewhere they at least smile while taking my money.

They’ve done a lot with their outside space here – patios, a fire pit, massive amounts of undercover seating with booths and heaters – good effort. Inside smells a bit damp but it is cosy when the fire’s roaring in winter. Food is good as is the service, and it’s lovely to be right on the Thames, although you cannot tell from the pub nor the beer garden as you cannot see the river. If you want a bit more class and nicer views, head down to the Old Ship (about a 5 min walk).

We called in to the Black Lion in the vain hope of finding a table for a late Sunday lunch. And were rewarded with friendly staff and a table straight away. The malbec was great and the mango gin incredible 😋 As were the two roast pork dinners, which arrived in good time. The atmosphere was comfortable, the pub welcoming. And one particular member of staff Amar was personable, helpful and efficient. A really excellent Sunday lunch experience, thank you😀

Delicious soup and the crunchiest tasty fries. Early in the day, so not many in. Lovely log fire lit. Right by the river.

This is probably one of the best pubs on the River even though you're not actually on the riverfront. The food is amazing and the owners are great! Nothing is a problem and they allowed dogs. I highly recommend this place.

Great service (unfortunately didn’t get the name of the person serving us, but he was really lovely!), hearty portions, very succulent pork belly, tender lamb shank, tasty corn-fed chicken, great burger and also the vegetarian option of mushroom, courgette and cheddar wellington was greatly received! We even managed to make some room for a lovely selection of coconut milk ice cream with chocolate and coconut tart etc. in spite of already feeling full! Highly recommend with a walk along the river before and afterwards!

Had a company Xmas meal here on Tuesday, best Xmas gathering this year. The food was very good, everyone happy with their choices. The staff were excellent and added to our overall enjoyment. An excellent night, highly eecommend

I had arrived early for a tour of the nearby Fuller’s Brewery. With no eating facilities there I took a pleasant walk to find a pub. The Black Lion was the first pub that we came to. We were warmly welcomed and found our own table for two for food. The ale had been well kept and was very good. I ordered spare ribs which came with very tasty coleslaw and beautifully cooked chips. As for the ribs themselves; they were cooked to perfection. They easily came off the bone and were extremely tasty - probably the best I have ever had in a pub/restaurant. My son had a burger that he too really enjoyed. Service was prompt and efficient by two different pleasant members of staff. The atmosphere was relaxed. I only visited Chiswick to attend the brewery but if I lived nearby or visited frequently, The Black Lion would be my pub of choice.

Fantastic Sunday!! And the beer garden was massive.Ordered Wellington and Chicken from Sunday Menu both absolutely delicious! All cooked to perfection ,homemade gravy, and giant Yorkshire pudding! Very busy. However, the service was prompt, and with a smile,nothing was a problem, dog friendly.Will definitely be back and recommend! OMG, and not to mention, they will have curling from next week...fun fun fun 😄

We stopped here on our way back from the Fuller's brewery, a nice place next to the river with a huge terrace and lots of outdoor tables. We enjoyed our pints here, nice atmosphere, calm and relaxing.

I can highly recommend visiting The Black Lion. Service was really great and you can see that managers of this place try to create a unique atmosphere where everybody can feel good. The food was really tasty and fresh, perfect place for beer with friends and Sunday Roast as well.

Arrived for Thursday quiz night. Busy with good service at the bar. Quizmaster is professional but would need eyes in the back of his head to look out for the teams that refer to their phones for every round of questions!

A lot of outdoor space which is what you go for, even if you can't see the river. There's the typical food choices and they're typically average.

Very quiet but lovely pub. Didn't have any food but menu and prices looked reasonable. Met some friends for a catch up and we were comfortable and found it easy to talk and get service at the bar.

The staff behind the bar are friendly. The bar can get busy like most places. The beer garden is huge! So much outdoor seating and the menu looks good too. Nice staff and good vibes. I would reccommend it for large gatherings too as there is so much space. A nice variety of beers on draft and a decent food menu. We had the fish and chips. The fish was absolutely delicious! Super crispy skin and soft fish. The chips were OK-just tasted like oven chips. Would order again though!
