Walk-in at 6.00 on a Saturday evening, as we happened to be in the area and lived the look of the menu. Nobody greeted us, but we asked the lady who appeared to be in charge whether they were serving food that evening. She rolled her eyes. The conversation then went as follows: Her: Have you booked? Us: no, I'm afraid we haven't. Her: Huh. (Rolls eyes again, goes over to the bookings list). It's very quiet, but I don't really want to do any more today. Us:... Her: I suppose I could do 7 o'clock... Us: Don't worry, bye! Her: Huh. No way were we going to give our business to somewhere with such a bad attitude. But it turned out well for us - we ended up at the Lal Bagh Bangladeshi restaurant down the road, and had possibly the best curry we've ever eaten!

Had an excellent lunch. We all had the special fish pie which was delicious. The chips were homemade and Christine was kind enough to cook a meal for our fussy 5 year old which wasn’t on the menu. Despite being incredibly busy she took the time to come and check everything was good for us. Very much appreciated. Great value as our drinks were included in the cost of our meal. The server, Rhi, was lovely too and very good with the kids. The staff, food and ambiance made for a very enjoyable time.

Astounding. I was told I was rude for trying to order a meal for 11 without booking. A simple sorry, we can't do that at short notice would have sufficed! Very unpleasant, but every cloud has a silver lining. We went to the Crown in Dilwyn. We were welcomed and served lunch with no problem.

Tough chewy beef, soggy Yorkshire pudding and gravy so thick it could be used to resurface the roads, complained to the manager, later found out he was the landlord, heard him muttering to me “Ignorant Prick” Well your just plain rude aren’t you, we were in the area trying pub out as looking to buy a pub, and saw this one advertised with Sidney Phillips, clearly this is one of the reasons he is selling, doesn’t like customers only wants your money

Always enjoy our meals at the Salutation - in fact we travel in from Hereford often because we love the food here and staff have always made me and my family feel welcome for many years. The Thai green chicken curry is one of mine and my families favourite dishes and the puddings here are our favourite! On our recent visit, me and my fiancé shared a white chocolate and raspberry crème brûlée and a snickers cheesecake between us which were 10/10! Would highly recommend.

Four of us (with 2 dogs) had a delicious and much needed lunch before bellringing in the parish church. We booked ahead and were given a table in the dog-friendly back bar away from the dining-room. This was quite acceptable. We had a convivial time and enjoyed a fab Sunday lunch, which was reasonably priced. Will certainly meet at the Sal. again.

Rude and ignorant after booking Sunday Lunch for two with our dog. Rude locals obviously don't like visitors. Barman ignored us...went round to other dismal bar where no table set as booked. Nobody came to give attention.....SO WALKED OUT. Their loss as we may well have eaten again during the week. Went down road to Unicorn Inn and given a wonderful welcome...what a difference. Can't rate Salutation ZERO but that's all it deserves.

Went along after a visit to the village park with a friend and our 2 children. Baring in mind this pub is on a black and white trail, in a pretty village that attracts lots of walkers and tourists. We walked in and warmed by the fire, ordered some drinks and asked for some menus, to which we had a short, sharp response of ‘you’ve obviously not booked then!’ We explained we’d been to the park and it was a last minute decision. A man then in a rude and sharp manner repeated 3 times how busy they are but could possibly squeeze us in, but in future we must book. It was 12pm on a Monday lunch and 2 others were in the pub. We were then asked to move away from the fire and sit elsewhere because clearly a local man always sits there and he was not amused that we were there. Surely, in a pretty village, they should expect to have walk ins and be grateful to have the support. I get places do get busy but there is a way to tell people and try to accommodate them, this was not the way. We drank our drinks and moved to another village pub and had a lovely lunch with welcoming service. Will never return to The Salutation again.

Called in today as 12 noon with a friend and 2 well behaved children. Only 1 other person in the bar. We sat next to the fire warm up and ordered drinks. When we asked for a menu the lady behind the bar rudely said "you obviously haven't booked then?". I apologied and explained it was a last minute decision to come for lunch after a visit to the park. A man appeared from the kitchen, I assume the owner, who again seemed annoyed that we had dared to step foot in his establishment and ask for food, informed us that we should have booked ahead and that they are very busy but that he could squeeze us in, but for future reference we needed to book. By this time there were only 2 other people eating lunch. We were made to feel so unwelcome that we didn't stop to order our food, we drank up and went on our way to another local pub where we enjoyed a lovely meal with friendly service. I'm glad that the Ye Olde Salutation is turning such a profit in these difficult times that it can afford to turn paying customers away. Seems if you aren't a local to the village then you aren't welcome. Won't be visiting again.

The owner is rude, like Basil Fawlty without any of the charm. He overheard my friend ask a local how to get served, the chap called for Stewart, who then crossly made his way to the bar muttering loudly “impatient prick”. The whole place is now laughably bad from the service to the atmosphere to the hoovering up around you at 10pm on a Saturday night. Sorry to have parted with so much money in there now. We stayed at the pub for two nights last weekend and had a lovely time. Very spacious “suite” upstairs, comfortable bed, good quality bed linen, nice towels, and enough hot water for two lovely big baths. We had a couple of meals at the pub and a few drinks over the course of the weekend. All food and drink was delicious and served in a timely manner. It was a very peaceful place to stay within the quaint village of Weobley and all the staff we came across were pleasant and helpful (we shall be moving up from Buckinghamshire next Spring so we were village hunting) The log fire was very welcoming as the weather had turned chilly. Stewart was very kind and he has gone above and beyond to make the pub Covid safe. It clearly is a tough time for the hospitality trade and we truly hope Stewart and his team manage to weather the storm. He deserves to be still standing when this is all over. We’d highly recommend a meal or stay at “the Sal”!! Do go.....

We took my father here for his birthday, he is quite unwell and this was to be a nice treat for him.On arrival the doors were open and we were slightly early but as there were people already drinking at tables my wife assumed it was open. She was literally shouted at by the owner who barked that they weren't open, she replied that the doors were open and was met with 'the staff have to get in somehow, F**king hell'When we did try and sit down the barman shouted rudely we were at the wrong table. If it had just been us we would have left then, but it would have been a hassle to get my father into somewhere else at short notice. The young waitress and the female staff were excellent, my wife rang and complained and was told that the owner would ring us, he didn't of course. The food isn't that good to compensate for the rudeness and ignorance of the owner and his barman. We will NEVER go back here and will let our friends know what kind of experience to expect from this establishment. There is no excuse for swearing at customers in this manner, it is just ignorant and rude. There are so many good eateries in and around the County there is no need to go somewhere where the owner plainly doesn't need or want the business.

On a gloomy wet October day the log fire in the inglenook alone would have been enough to cheer us. This is a really characterful old black and white pub in an virtually unspoilt Herefordshire village, quite off the beaten track. We’ve been here several times and always found both the food and the service excellent. It’s proper, homemade food. Sure, there are sometimes “wobbly bits” in the meat. If you don’t like that then don’t choose the lamb. The chips are super and the desserts are fantastic. The wine list is good too.I ate braised lamb in red wine from the Specials board, followed by apricot frangipane tart. Both delicious. Don’t be put off by one bad review or you will miss a real treat.

The eating area of the pub is nicely decorated, the atmosphere good and the service was good, but I am sorry to have to say that the food was disappointing. My wife and I both chose the pork belly and found the meat and the fat almost inseparable so that you were using your knife and fork to try and tear and tug them apart, with only partial success. I also had the 3 cheesecake dessert, expecting small pieces of tasty delight, but received 3 huge pieces of blandness such as I might expect from a supermarket budget range. Our guests, who are usually effusive about good food when we eat out with them, were politely restrained, so I feel they were not too impressed. One of them did say though that a large menu such as offered here can often lead to disappointing quality. Clearly other reviewers have had much better experiences, but I can only report on our experience. Maybe it was just an "off" day or an unlucky choice of meals, but we will not be tempted to repeat the experience. Other people may be luckier.

Have had meals and snacks at the Sal several times before and always enjoyed the food quality, the service and the ambience of this lovely inn. This time stayed overnight with my wife. Having already dined out a lunchtime about 100 miles away we only wanted something light and being Sunday night we weren't sure that anything would be available. Stuart the owner/chef said we could gave whatever we wanted from the menu, but we just chose sandwiches and were quickly served plates of superb beef and tuna mayo on splendid bread and with a lovely little dressed salad. Had a great hour chatting with the locals in front of a blazing fire ( one of 3 in the pub!) and then retired to a nice characterful room for a cosy nights sleep and breakfast just as we wanted it. The Sal is a perfect example of a traditional, ancient British pub at its best. Warm, friendly, efficient perfection!

My wife and I went to the "Sal" in Weobley for lunch on a Thursday 17 January 2019. Both the food and service were excellent. The staff and the cat were all very friendly and I especially liked the real ale taster tray of 3 1/3rd pints of beer for £3.20. We have been there several times before with equal satisfaction and fully recommend this Inn it you are in the Weoble y area.

The food is as good as the building. A really special timber-framed pub where wherever you sit there is something worth looking at. Tables and chairs well placed. Wonderful log fires. Excellent choice of dishes. Tiniest fault: sometimes the portions are too big!

Very welcoming staff, we were efficiently catered for. The food was delicious. The beer Shropshire Lass was really well presented. Good to see locals drinking not just visitors eating. A proper good pub.

I was one of 27 people on a coach trip on a black and white villages tour. We booked in ahead for lunch. Service was fast, and all different meals were praised. Beautiful inn, and the room for us was clean, fresh and inviting.

We had Sunday lunch. Good service and nice staff. Good choice for the various courses. A good lunch for the money and although busy service was good and all the food hot.

Two hungry visitors were told in no uncertain terms that there was no food for them when turning up for a pint and some lunch at lunchtime on a Bank Holiday Monday. After standing at the bar ignored for some ten minutes, the sullen barman was most rude when we asked did they have any food. "Absolutely not!" he repeated three times, even though the bar was full of people eating. The crazy thing is that we arrived at just after 1.30pm, which you would think would be the middle of service. An appeal to the cook was rudely rebuffed, and this boorish barman interrupted us to tell his colleague, "I told them three times, and they won't listen." Thank goodness we will never be there again, but I do warn other visitors to beware.

Visited on a Thurs lunchtime. A few men in the bar but quiet otherwise. Asked if they were doing bar snacks and barmaid shouted can we do some bar snacks to the kitchen staff.

I cannot comment on the food in this pub restaurant, as we didn't manage to get that far. We went in at 12.20 on a Wednesday lunchtime. There was not a single person in the restaurant, just two men drinking at the bar. We asked if they were serving lunch and the barman said, 'Yes, have you booked?' We hadn't. 'Is it just the four of you?' It was. He then called out to the kitchen, 'We've got four in for lunch.' An extremely loud female voice shouted rudely back, 'Well I'm doing my orders now!' The barman looked rather confused and my daughter asked what time we would be able to eat. 'I don't know, err, we've got a table of six booked and a table of eight.....err, I don't know really, err maybe 1.30. I don't know.' We said we would go somewhere else and left the deserted restaurant. What pub/restaurant cannot cope with more than fourteen at lunchtime? Or can afford to turn away customers when they are clearly empty? We are locals, but will not be returning. We crossed the road to The Green Bean Cafe, which was genuinely very busy, but where the lovely smiley staff had no trouble finding us a table and providing us with a delicious lunch. I know where we'll go in future!

Second time we have stopped off in this lovely village for lunch. Inn has a nice decked patio with good shade. Very well filled sandwiches on nice thick wholemeal bread, pile of fresh salad. Great pint of Hobson's.

We stayed for 2 nights - very lucky to get a cancellation. We had the suite with a sitting room which was just perfect for relaxing after a days walking. Our evening meal and breakfasts were very special. Locally sourced ingredients and creatively cooked - delicious. An unusual and special place to stay. We loved it.

We stayed for three nights in this genuine olden days tavern, with as much of the medieval feel inside as was out. Warm, clean, peaceful & nothing was too much trouble for the staff. I just loved it here - my Godmother & I - it was central, yet quiet, historic yet beautifully comfortable ... and the brandy & orange pancakes were to die for.

Nice place, but when asking about nuts in the carrot cake the girl didn't know. Shouldn't rain their staff on anaphylaxis and its dangers.

First visit to The Railway Inn Dinmore. Friendly, welcoming and helpful staff. 1 adult had an allergy to a foodstuff, staff were able to advise which meals were suitable - majority of meals, but Chef would accommodate as meals were freshly prepared. Booking advisable. Wait a while for your meal as its freshly prepared but well worth the wait. Good presentation of food, hot, tasty good quality. Off the beaten track, but well worth a visit. Beautiful location and tasteful décor. Will certainly visit again.

Awful service; slow, rude and incompetent don’t bother! There are so many better, faster and competent coffee shops in Hereford.
