Catching up with family visit. Love the new decor. Disappointed lunch time doesn’t accommodate tapas. Admittedly 20mins late for 2pm booking. However, not many in at the time. If you can’t cater, don’t accept the bookings. Felt rushed and not a “chilled” experience. Some food good, other over/under cooked (depending on thickness of main ingredient). Wud come back but at a different time.

I go to The Salutation quite often since they reopened. Best pub in keyworth by far. Never had any issues whilst in there. The tapas is tasty and there is plenty to choose from. Great selection of meat, fish and vegetarian dishes. I’ve been for lunch a few times too. Also a very good menu with a selection of sandwiches, baguettes and hot meals. Drink prices are very reasonable too. A pint of Heineken silver is £4.70, which I would personally say is a good price. Very welcoming atmosphere with the staff always being friendly. Glad it’s round the corner from my house. Keyworth is very lucky to have a pub like it!

Menu is now tapas. I have eaten there twice. As a vegetarian the choice is very limited. Food pretty tasteless. Second time we were seated by door to toilets so all evening there are people walking past, opening door, cold draught. Don't intend to eat there again. Bar area lovely for drinks, lovely atmosphere. Recommend drinks here.

We came for Sunday lunch, party of 16 friends and family for our sons Birthday party. Loved the decor, colours so tasteful, smaller bar meant more room. Particularly loved the open fire and cosy sitting areas. The food was delicious, such tender beef and vegetables just perfect, so much I had a takeaway too! Staff and service all very good. I would highly recommend !

Thank you Paul and Tracy for looking after us so well for my birthday Sunday lunch. From the moment we walked in we were looked after by attentive smiling staff who were very friendly. Please also give a big pat on the back to the chef. The roast dinner and vegetables were outstanding, along with the best ever victoria sponge cake that he made himself. Absolutely gorgeous pub. Recently refurbished and they've done a fantastic job. Lovely seating areas, warm and welcoming. Great lunch menu that won't get you remortgaging to pay the bill! I definitely recommend the homemade fish fingers on bloomer. Freshly cooked with a light batter. Non of that greasy oily taste. Best I've had anywhere. With a generous amount of salad and crisps. Staff were friendly and helpful. Especially Tracy, she deserves 10 stars for helping us with my father in law. Excellent, highly recommend. Update ....The Sunday lunch is the best around. Eaten in most pubs and restaurants around this area and The Salutation beats them all. Wish I'd taken a photo to add to the review. The plate was brought out bursting to the brim with roast and mash potato, 3 large slices of the best beef I've had in a long time, a large Yorkshire pudding, stuffing, roasted parsnips and then a side dish of veg and cauliflower cheese that was included in the price! I highly recommend a trip here. One of the best value pubs around. Was good to see it busy today for Sunday lunch, which shows how good it is. I just need to try one of their tapas meals now.

This country pub reopened and a great job on the decor and Paul and Tracy are lovely and the staff are on the ball where service is concerned. The lunch time menu is disappointing, mainly soup and sandwiches, it would be great to see more hot food, especially going into the winter months, portion sizes are small, so if you have a bigger appetite then consider this when ordering your food. I hear the Tapas on the evening menu is good, and we are already booked in to try this in December with visiting family.

We booked a table, no staff to be seen when we arrived and then once finally told which table to sit at still took ages to even be given a menu, despite the fact that the pub was half empty except for some rowdy drinkers all wandering around without makes. . The staff were lovely when they actually came to the table but none of them were wearing masks. Food was very average. The only bitter available was John Smiths which is woeful. Felt very unsafe and won’t be returning.

My partner and myself called in for a drink in the evening, as we walked in we were ‘greeted’ by someone, not wearing a mask, I was talking to someone I knew and lowered my mask to be abruptly chastised. We were then showed to a table which had Qcodes on them, these didn’t work and when I went to the bar, wearing my mask was rudely told to go and sit down! There were people playing bar billiards, standing and walking around without a mask! When I pointed out the Qcodes weren’t recognised a sheet of paper was brought over and our names were added to a very short list considering the people in the bar. Service was not very good either and we should have walked out but didn’t. When we did leave we followed the arrows only to be told we were going the wrong way and we couldn’t leave by that door! Suffice to say I will not be returning to this establishment, they do not deserve to have my money or custom. This is sad because over the 58 years I have been around this village I have used the Sal a lot.

Been going to the Sal for years. Last visit was poor though with very poor beer. Most ales were not available and of the few that were, the first pint was poor but just acceptable, certainly not worth a second though. For the second I tried something different but both me and my fired found it tasted bad with chemical flavour. Sent the pint back (rare that I have ever done that!) and had a soft drink as replacement. Used to serve good beers - what happened?

Visited on a midweek evening for a meal and couple of drinks. Service was fine but the food (specifically the 'Hunter's Chicken') was less than: a flat piece of chicken breast with a topping that must have been produced in a lab. Topped off with oven chips and corn on the cob that was cold on one side. Clearly all bought in and re heated. What a shame because I really want to support my local - it will be drinks only next time I'm afraid. Sorry.

I’ve been coming here for years. The beer has never been as bad as it is now. They have some lovely real ales on tap but they taste awful and I think it’s because the pipes haven’t been cleaned properly. Several of us have told the managers but they don’t seem to care. We've been going to the Sal for Christmas day for over a decade, we are very loyal to the pub and don't like to put it down, but this years Christmas day lunch was just terrible. There was no greeting of "Merry Christmas" when we arrived. No festive atmosphere at all. The food was dire. Really, really dire. Those of us that had beef were served with a piece of fat on a bone. The veg was cold and bland. The Christmas pudding was inedible. We complained and the bill was reduced. We were all so disappointed. I know errors can be made and sometimes the food that comes out isn't always up to scratch, but on Christmas day there's no excuse for it. On Christmas day we pay a premium price and expect a premium service. That means checking that the food that is served is warm and fit for consumption. That means being attentive and welcoming to the customer. You should not be getting this wrong on the biggest day of the year. As I said, we've been going to the Sal for over a decade for Christmas and other important occasions with friends and family, but we will be going elsewhere next year.

This was a disappointment, thought I'd give it another go after previous bad experiences. I had a burger, which was ok but lacking in flavour, and the portion of chips was tiny. For £10 for a burger I'd expect more than a few chips. Very poor. My dad ordered the bacon chops, but when it came they brought a Barnsley chop, completely the wrong meal. They had made a mistake and ordered the wrong meal. They didn't take my meal and re-do it so I had to eat alone and had finished by the time my dad got his meal. They did refund a drink as apology but I think a free meal would have been more appropriate. Very disappointed, really wanted it to be better but it is just not up to scratch.

We often dine out as a family, decided to give the Sal a go. A decent environment with a good feel. The manager/owner made us feel very welcome and recommended the "home made" steak and ale pie. It took a while for our food to arrive, 3 pies and 1 burger, when the food arrived it looked awful with the tops of the individual pies burnt to a black state, the filling was dry and resembled dog food. The burnt top gave a bitter acrid taste, in fact, it was disgusting and frankly inedible. The gravy had a strange tang to it, the taste was awful. Any self respecting cook sending inedible food out of their kitchen does not deserve any better than this awful review. The manager/owner disappeared to let her poor bar staff take the brunt of our feedback. We will never eat here again and I would advise anyone reading this to heed that warning. The one saving grace was that the bar staff discounted our bill to the value of the three pies.

Although we’d booked for Sunday lunchtime it didn’t seem that busy when we arrived around 2pm.This pub had a recent refurbishment and we’d visited since but apparently it’s changed hands again since then.Someone took our drinks order at the table and then a separate server was I think aware we wanted to order but it did seem to take a long time for them to return, although we were told she was the only person waiting tables that day, something the landlord needs to get sorted I’d suggest. On a previous visit some of us found that the vegs served with the Sunday roast were cold, on that visit I’d had the sausage with bubble and squeak and found it fine so played safe and chose same again. This was again fine, but I'd comment that for around £8 for a few sausages some bubble and squeak and a serving of peas I’d have thought the sausages might be something a little more exotic than the standard mass produced bangers they appeared to be.I had a pint of the Doom Bar bitter which was very good. All in all good experience with the food but service was slow to begin with, it was approaching 30 mins before we got our meals served.Bearing in mind we’d only popped out for a bite of Sunday lunch we’d be put off visiting here again due to the time taken.

This pub has fairly recently been taken over by new owners/tenants.We'd not been in a while as only visit when in the area.So this was our first visit after a refit etc., the place certainly looks the better for a bit of paint and a few new fixtures and furnishings but it seems that for whatever reason the locals have voted with their feet as rather than being pretty busy the place was all but empty as we arrived around 1:30pm on a Sunday.Service at the table, (why do people don't immediately head for the bar to get get anymore bemuses me) was swift and we got our drinks fairly quick. The menu has changed, apparently prices increasing too since the change of management, but neither that much really.I don't usually have the Sunday roast and chose from the main menu, the sausages, bubble & squeak plus peas and an onion gravy, to be honest my own version of similar is way better but overall the meal was just fine although being on the verge of Lincolnshire you'd have though they'd have found some decent sausages rather than regular bangers from the supermarket type sausages. The others who had the roast had mixed opinions, the beef looked pretty fatty and tough, the turkey was fine, the veg apparently varied from hot to cold.Puds were fine, my sticky toffee pud with icecream was good. All in all some of us said we'd enjoyed it, some said they'd not come back...In either case apparently the management are soon to change again so who knows what that brings...

Was a good village pub with wide selection of ale and pub food. Recently changed hands and been refurbished. Decor is bland and clinical, who paints old wooden beams white? Beer still OK but no atmosphere. Went on a Saturday night and very few people there.

I am so sad! Having been regulars at the"Sal" for 25 odd years for 3/4 evenings a week we have walked away from it. It's had 300 year old dark beams painted white!! .(.in the original part of the pub.) .The new decor is quite nice but it's like an Australian wine bar. Food more expensive, as is the beer. Pool table has gone..and replaced by a dart board put in the most inappropriate place...3 flat screen televisions that are "in your face". Hard floors where carpet used to be. There is little to absorb sound. Why don't the so called designers ask the locals what they require from a pub?The Abbot Ale was removed. The very regular Customers have stopped going in and won't be back. The lovely Jen has asked for it to be put back on. It will be too late. We ( most of the regulars) have had enough! Even the manager does not seem to enjoy what he is doing. So very annoyed we shall be using another pub in the village.u

Been coming here for years. New décor terrible. Who paints 300-year-old beams white? Very limited menu and small portions. Apparently they might be introducing 'music nights'. Won't be visiting again.

This is a warm + friendly pub with great bar staff + a good selection of beers. You do get the feeling that the interior of the pub does not fit with what you expect for a traditional heart of old England pub - I do not know who did the interior decorating (painted over original wooden beams) but it boggles the mind - why spoil a gem? The bar staff were awesome friendly + thoughtful.
