They say the best things come in small parcels and this is one of them! We couldn't eat inside because of the dog but the lady set the little table outside and it was quite sheltered from the cold wind. We had the lunch menu at £9.95 for two courses either a starter and main or main and pudding. The food was beautifully served and tasty and we washed it all down with a nice rose wine. Very friendly staff - mother and son I think and they couldn't do enough for us even although we were outside.

We dropped in by chance for lunch yesterday and soon realised we were not in the usual run-of-the-mill seaside cafe. The starters were delicious, small but so well presented and so tasty that we wanted to linger over them. We had fish and chips for the main course and again everything was gorgeous. Light and crispy batter on very good fish, well flavoured chips, a wonderful pea and mint puree, and homemade tartare sauce. At 2 courses for £10 we thought this was extremely good value. We also shared a dessert which again was excellent. Highly recommended.

Dropped in for a second time for their Lunchtime offer of two courses for £10. First time I had the Smoked Haddock fishcakes, not the biggest but I saw them being prepared in the kitchen and they were good, followed by Moules Mariniere, again not the biggest but fresh Teign mussels served with some chunky bread. My wife had crab pate, plenty of crab followed by Cod, Chips, Pea puree, again no serving was big, but the cod was flaky fresh and the batter crunchy crisp. They were enough for our lunch. Bit envious of the chap on the next table who was disassembling a lovely big brown crab but that was on the main menu along with catch of the day which were fillets of Brill. On Valentines Day Marian had a stuffed mushroom which was a bit thin on the ground but tasted good and I had the crab pate, lovely pate but a bit heavy on the melted butter followed by us both choosing the cod, chips and pea puree which again came close to perfection. Red roses and a card would have cost more than the price I paid for a first class lunch for the two of us. Went home and treated my 'pudding pocket'' which was empty, to a Gregg's Custard Slice (£1). "Heaven, I'm in heaven" as the song goes. Could have had half a lobster for £24.95 but that would have been hard work.

We received a nice welcome, and since it was a very chilly day, we opted for a couple of cappucino's while we scanned the menu to order our meal. The Salty is a small restaurant with a simple fish and seafood menu. They serve wine and bottled beer and you have the choice of cold beer from the fridge or bottles kept at room temperature. The menu is fairly short but the food is excellent. We visited for lunch and dinner and were very pleased with what we were served. The crab sandwiches were filled with chunks of crab meat, as if they just opened the shell and tipped the meat in. They were the best we've ever had. The staff are friendly and service was excellent.

I pride myself on giving balanced feedback in all of my reviews and so on a positive note on our table of 4 although not overwhelmed,3 diners had no complaints on their meals. The pannacotta and creme brulee were tasty, if not a tad small. We arrived 5 minutes late for our 5.30 booking and hastily perused the menu. We quickly decided on our starters and offered to place it so that chef could get underway. The male waiter told us that "it doesn't work like that" and that we need to place the whole order together...fair enough. At 5.50 we were reminded of the time by the waiter....agast at his rudeness, but maybe they had fully booked tables that night, so okay, rude again, but the food could be exceptional?....My personal displeasure however,is paying £16.50 for a crab salad that in parts was inedible. A fairly small amount of white crab meat sat on top of a, what can only be discribed as a slimy skin ?.The waiter came to ask if everything was ok with our meals, at which point,I showed him the afore mentioned, asking what it was, as it was definitely not crab meat.He offered to take it away and show the chef and quickly (with the plate)returned to say that there was nothing wrong with it, that they had sold lots of these dishes and no-one had complained before!!..ok guys,I will rant no further....yes, you offered to give me some more white meat and thank - you for my free dessert, however, the meat that was put on my plate was NOT edible to me.I would have expected a fresh plate of food and an apology at the very least. You have many excellent reviews for your restaurant and my meal could have been an isolated case but Without question, the crab salad you served me was without question the worst I have ever had.

The manager asked my wife how her food was but not me. When clearing the plates I told him about the fish his reply was I should have said at the table check I would have done if given the chance. Although I only ate a little of the fish I was still charged for it. The desserts were good but all in all it was a lot of money for a meal I did not enjoy. I will not be returning in a hurry.

What a find! After being shunned by another well known seafood restaurant in Teignmouth, we thought we would give The Salty a try, and we are so delighted we did. A small restaurant (I recommend that you book ahead to avoid disappointment) with a amazing seafood menu (Don't worry meat lovers there is plenty of choice for you) The crab pate is to die for served with a great choice of bread. And if you love Scallops you really need to try these absolutely sublime. I love that the menu is locally sourced (Even had Salcombe Gin and Luscombe Tonic) we will definitely be visiting here again soon, such great food, excellent customer service. That other well known Seafood Restaurant in Teignmouth has just lost our custom we will be visiting The Salty from now on.

We were recommended The Salty when we couldn't get a table at the Crab Shack. I am delighted! The food was so fresh and tasty. The staff were friendly and the atmosphere was relaxed. We did book last minute and the lovely chap made an effort to fit us in at a time that was good for out kids.

Beautifully cooked and presented food. The restaurant is small but welcoming. Our party of three really enjoyed our oysters, mussels and scallops. Looking forward to our next visit.

The restaurant is very small but cosy, so booking in advance is recommended. My wife and I were welcomed by the very friendly manager who explained that they are new in Teignmouth and that they are open to suggestions and comments. They are proud that their fish is locally sourced and some of the dishes have a percentage of the price donated to a fishermen’s charity. I think the prices on the menu are very reasonable and I noticed that small portions and children’s portions are available. The menu is not limited to fish, should one of your party want a steak, for example.

Thankfully, an impressive addition to the Teignmouth dining scene which it was crying out for. Compact and simple with very few covers and not in the prettiest position, but what it lacks in style it makes up for in its offering - well executed dishes, wonderfully fresh fish and seafood; and excellent hospitality.

We were invited with friends a couple of weeks ago, the restaurant staff made us all most welcome. The starters included the crab pate and mussels, with main courses of steak, lemon sole and the scallops. All nicely presented, delicious, and finishing off with desserts, all very satisfying. Service was well timed, polite and all made for a most enjoyable evening.

Yet another delightful meal at 'The Salty'! My husband is a retired Naval Officer and I have worked many years as an International Event Manager - we both haven't tasted seafood as good as this since we both ate at the Chapman's Peak Hotel in Cape Town and the 'Captain's Table' in Gambia. Seafood is second-to-none. It's a small restaurant that is now in it's third month of being open - it's now becoming so popular that booking is highly recommended. The restaurant also caters for Vegans and if you have a food allergy they are more than happy to cater for your needs. Was delighted whilst eating lunch when the fishermen walked in with the live lobsters - seafood does not get fresher than this! I had the scallops (they were sublime and cooked to perfection), my husband had the mini Thai fish cakes. If you want an excellent seafood restaurant then this is the place for you. However, booking is essential!

What a lovely addition to Teignmouth, a restaurant selling locally caught, fresh fish. Don't be put off by the small, somewhat basic surroundings, the food and atmosphere is fantastic. Expensive if you are on a budget, but definitely worth a visit.

Family meal - 2 had lemon sole which was excellent - one had scallops which were also very good - 1 had fishcakes which were ok (not enough IMO) and 1 had fish n chips. Overall very good and great service - restaurant needs some atmosphere - which I am sure it will once it "beds in" - only recently opened.

My wife, daughter &I; popped into this restaurant as we had heard lots of people rate it. Its only a small place with around a dozzen tables and one or two outside but my word, the quality of the food was excellent and has been one of the top meals I've had. Everything was local and freshLy cooked to order. Mussels that were succulent and juicy nothing ovrrcooked at all. We didn't book and was lucky to get a table so booking is essential. We had a sharing platter and 2 portions of scallops with the Roe to start. I had mussels for my main, daughter had the fishcakes and wife, fish and chips. It's moderately priced but more than reflected in the quality, freshness and taste of the food. We had a couple bottles of quality wine and I had a couple of berrs. It worked out at 33piunds per head if you divide it by 3. If you are in Dawlish, Devon, this little gem of a restaurant is so worth a visit. The staff/owner are such lovely people too. Superb.
