Superb seafood restaurant overlooking the river Tein. Staff incredibly knowledgable, attentive and a laugh. Food was superb, plenty of it and our kids who would normally have nothing other than chicken nuggets happily hammered through their linguinis. Our mussels and other bits were fresh and delicious. Would definitely go again

Fantastic experience for my mums birthday! Food was freshly made with fresh ingredients, incredible quality, yes, some dishes were not to our personal taste, but by no way should that impact the review! We were lucky enough to be the only people in there, so we could be ourselves and the host/server matched our mentality and personality! We agreed she was one of, if not the best host we’ve ever had! Great conversation and laughs! And with the three course menu with free wine on Thursdays, fantastic value for money! Left full, smiling and talking about when we shall return! Thank you!

Followed the Fish Delivery man into the Crab Shack , as he told us how fresh the fish was .Ellie gave us a lovely window table , we had the 2 course lunch special of Crab Arancini & Fresh Caught Plaice, both so delicious, wine also perfect, ...Happy to pay the service charge as it was excellent .. really enjoyed our lunch at the Crab Shack .

A very pleasant evening. Our waitress was very attentive and welcoming. Great location with our table overlooking the river. Lovely fresh plaice. The crab linguine was great but somewhat salty. Puddings were delicious - pannecotta and cheesecake. Pricey for Teignmouth by we would go again for a special occasion.

We visited the restaurant as we we have visited other Crab Shacks and always had an enjoyable time. We arrived early admittedly - but waited 25 mins for a drink. The service was a little slow due to an over running wedding reception from lunch time very noisy. Food was good small portions leading to s definite over pricing. Would we return - I don’t think so.

You know it's good food when you want your friends' dish and keep yours as well. Also, the entertainment of watching other people tackle the seafood tiered platter. Service was friendly and knowledgeable about each of the dishes. We had the window seat with views out to the estuary. I am planning a return visit soon.

Arrived in the pouring rain, which luckily meant there was plenty of availability Enjoyed a superb dinner with service to match Mussels, terrine, lobster brioche roll followed by whole crab with fries. Sensational! Enjoyed delicious baguette bread, butter, smoked almonds. Olives did not taste of rosemary or garlic so would give them a miss next time. Enjoyed lovely luscombe soft drinks. Recommend you go! (All dishes on the menu are seafood apart from terrine and steak)

Today 08/09/2024 - Just amazing as usual , today treated myself on this rainy day. Food was perfect , the atmosphere was informal but professional and focused on great food and accompanying drinks. Ellie was the perfect host and Chef was passionate and happy to answer any questions - it made my holiday tbh. See the pics, oysters , mussels and crab linguine 😍 🙏

Only just found this place and will definitely be one of our go tos now. The service was fantastic, the setting is lovely and the food was beautiful (some of the best quality oysters I've ever eaten). I will never tire of eating fresh seafood overlooking the waters from which some are caught, and this place massively fits that bill. Not the cheapest but that doesn't mean it's not good value.

Amazing. Great service and absolute top selection of food. Menu isn't huge but everything they do, they clearly do to a very high standard.

We have been coming here for many years but was very disappointed yesterday. Was told that it would be a good idea to order bread to mop up the sauce for the mussels but there wasn’t any and they were overcooked. I’ve never ordered mussels anywhere that bread doesn’t come as as accompaniment. Lobster was also over cooked. I ordered a glass of dry Rose wine - my fault, I didn’t look at the menu and saw at the end that it was £19.50 a glass for a mediocre wine! We wouldn’t recommend and won’t return.

Delicious food, looking up the estuary of beautiful Teignmouth. A little smaller inside for those with lower mobility but the atmosphere is lovely.

Having booked a table in advance, we are here before visiting g friends in Teignmouth. Cosy, friendly with attentive staff, it was a good find and we were very happy with the food and the over-all experience. The fish was fresh and the quality and price are well balanced. If I had one negative, it was that service was sometimes a little slow. Having said that, the restaurant was busy and we were on a date night so weren’t all that bothered with snappier service. We had a great evening and we will return!

Used to be good. Not anymore…. Food is tasty but very expensive. £35 for a fillet of fish with no sides. I don’t mind spending money but that’s a little bit crazy…. Lovely location though but be prepared to get your wallet out. Drink order was also wrong along with the mains orders so I think the waitress might be on an off day. Focus less of profit and more on the customer. The money will follow 👍

The quality of food and service was amazing. They were very helpful and welcoming to families and my children thoroughly enjoyed their meal. My son’s steak was prepared to perfection. Beautiful fresh fish and beautiful presentation. Cute Little Rock sweets available to purchase on leaving. Wonderful customer service. Having dined here & at the lobster lounge many times in the past, we brought our daughter & father here for treat & while the whole crab, & crab linguine was lovely, our daughters rib eye steak was truly awful, very fatty & tough - we were not even checked upon once during our meal so we could not advise the staff of our disappointment - upon asking for the bill & explaining our disappointment we were offer £6 discount on the £30 inedible steak ! Oh & as an aside the manager has never heard of non alcoholic wine ? As no customer has ever asked for it before & I was advised if I wanted to drink my small can (I had brought just incase) I would be charged £10 corkage !

We popped into this lovely restaurant without a booking and they found us a table for two. The service was very friendly and efficient the manager Alex introduced himself to us. The food was delicious. We would definitely recommend this restaurant. We had scallops and the mussels as starters and the fillet of brill and whole sea bass for mains.

Terrible. -Young staff (especially the blonde haired girl) was rude, unprofessional, all three eating behind the bar inc manager, on their phones & gave terrible service with an attitude. -Food was massively overpriced and when served look depressing. Especially the steak which is £30 with a tiny “bucket” of overcooked chips. No salad nothing. The steak I had was the saddest dish I’ve looked at in a very long time. -The vibe & atmosphere was terrible. -10% service charge added to the bill without consent. I refused to pay this but it shouldn’t be added to the bill considering how overpriced everything else is. It should be down to the customers if they want to tip or not based on their experience not added and then told it’s “your choice”. I understand the lobster lounge and crab shack is owned by the same owner but we all wished we stayed in the lobster lounge that evening because it was a completely different experience & we can’t recommend the lobster lounge enough compared to the crab shack. The food here is top quality! Succulent fish, great portions, delicate flavours. It is on the pricier side, but it’s not hard to see why as the food was just stunning. Highlight of the week. The team went out of their way to accommodate my sister who has allergies. The cocktails were 10/10 and the hake in particular was exceptional. It was popular and the staff were just so nice! 👏🏼 thanks for having us!

I got to say £30 for a sandwich (dish of the day) that I could have made with a seafood deli filler from Sainsburys is not what I expected, it was filled with defrosted prawns mainly, I couldn’t distinguish the langoustine and lobster that it was supposed to be made of, the prices are far beyond what you expect to get for the money, only rich and foolish people would pay the prices they charge, I would definitely not recommend the food or prices, the staff were friendly enough, if you have money to throw away go for it

I came as a solo traveller for lunch today. Had the starter of Lobster and prawn brioche roll and side of frites. Definitely enough for a full main. Absolutely stunning dishes! The frites are a large portion and aoli stunning. Lovely staff. Amazing food. 100% would come back. £28 for those and a diet coke

Great food and cocktails. The smoked Negroni was very cool! The fish and chips were great, the hake was lovely too. All well cooked and decent portions. On the more expensive side, but worth it.

This used to be the best fish restaurant in this area with its own fishing boat. Now under new management and very disappointing with hardly any shellfish dishes or any choice of fish dishes. So-called fish platters outrageously expensive. A picked crab first course came in a tin! Still situated by the harbour in but only has views from the outside tables which are somewhat neglected. Avoid!

Visited on the most perfect of evenings, sat overlooking the bobbing boats with sunshine glinting like diamonds on the water accompanied by a cool musical vibe going on in the background. Gorgeous cocktail, then clean-tasting superfresh crab, salad and skin-on fries with aoili that really packed a punch. Pineapple carpaccio dessert was light and sublime. Crabshack has unbeatable location, wonderful food and super friendly, attentive service: summer evenings like this are hard to beat

From the very warm welcome on arrival to the food this restaurant is absolutely brilliant. If you like top quality seafood cooked perfectly topped off with lovely friendly service then this is a must. From my oyster starter to the Hake main the food just tasted so good. I would recommend booking as they have a very busy restaurant most days.

To be honest we were quite disappointed following our visit on Saturday. The first time we came here the food was excellent and good value for money. Since it has changed hands the menu is not really what I would expect from a seafood restaurant. There isn’t as much seafood on the menu as there used to be and the hot platter which we ordered was massively over priced for what it was. That coupled with 4 glasses of Rose costing £19 per glass made this a very expensive lunch for 2 (£271 to be precise!). My own fault on the wine as I didn’t check the wine list before ordering just went off the waitresses remark that the one I chose was ‘slightly’ more expensive than the alternative. I don’t mind paying for food if it’s worth it but in my opinion the hot platter was definitely not £130 pounds worth of food. The cream in the mussels was all lumpy and the langoustines had no meat in them. We used to love this place but our last visit has left us feeling robbed and like we don’t really want to go back again.

From hero to zero . Mussels were overcooked with mushy onions and clumpy greasy sauce. For £27 + service they come with no side dish at all! But wait you can pay another £5 for “homemade sourdough “ and get three tiny slices of poor quality definitely not homemade and not sourdough baguette. My friend got “special of the day”a lobster seafood and truffle sauce brioche which was literally a roll stuffed with Marie rose sauced finely chopped seafood (probably to hide the actual amount of lobster if any in there ) with a little side of something like truffle broth - weird combination and again quality and size drastically poor (that roll was £55 I guess😳). Fish and chips are tiny, nothing special but the price over the top. We’ve paid more for a lunch here than in Michelin guide restaurant the day before and left very disappointed and slightly worried about our stomach health 🤢 The worst part is that it was my favourite place for years ! (You can find my previous reviews here). pricey but guaranteed quality food and atmosphere. since March our experience at crab shack was getting worse and worse unfortunately and after hilarious last lunch I doubt we’d ever visit again.

We had the hot seafood platter for two and it wouldn’t feed one for £130 very disappointed to say the least.The mussels were just mush with onions,crab claws if you can call them that,hardly any meat so basically we went home hungry and we had travelled along way has it was my 60th celebration. i should have complained there and then.

It’s been a few years since 2018 when I was last here. I love this part of the world and love crab. This one was just so good and tasted lovely. Well worth every penny and fingers crossed its not another 6 years before I get to come back. I hope it just stays the same forever.

We took our order card and paid individually. The chefs cooked Singapore Chilli Crab, Teign Mussels, Charred Monkfish, Sour Dough Battered Fish, Confit Duck Leg, Excellent food choices. Nice atmosphere and good food. Thank you Alex, Ellie and chefs. I will definitely return again.

What a great place 'took my wife there for her birthday ( not saying how old .) But you can't fault the staff .was a great experience .will go back again .

A gem of a find, tucked away on the side of the quay. Charming staff and delicious freshly cooked food. The fish and chips were excellent and my partner had the fish special which was a kind of stew. Both dishes were a cut above the norm. The small number of tables, made it feel very special and intimate.

This was our 2nd time eating in the crab shack, we booked at the beginning of the week to ensure we got a table and took the kids for an experience and the food, the staff are lovely the food is awesome, lovely place to eat- however this time was a bit disappointing , asked for a beer of the menu, not available, no oysters, no mussels, no clams - completely understand seafood is all-seasonal so no drama, we opted to share a hot platter, (as this came with a whole lobster plus extras for only an extra £10 vs the cost of a lobster) and told they would swap the mussels and clams for extra something else as didn’t have these items. It came out with half a lobster plus the other bits promised we queried this we where told that sometimes the chef will give you a big half by weight rather than whole lobster - I have never heard of this and felt more upset we where then just being lied to - the table opposite also had ordered the lobster and they received whole one - so I guess this must have been a small one!? They also told us we are not really telling people to order the hot platter as we don’t have much of it - to which we replied this would have been nice to know when you took are order, they offered 20% off, which we agreed to even though being sat by a sign that said whole lobster £120 meaning a missing half should £60?! So I wanted to leave 2.5 stars, but don’t worry these are really big starts , like bright and weighty ones it’s basically a 5 star review?! Right?!

Delicious food and very attentive service. We stayed in the flat above a few years ago but just visited the restaurant this time. We had The Hake and mussels for main and faultless, great portion size. We booked ahead to secure a table a lovely intimate atmosphere with friendly staff.

Sadly quite underwhelming. We’ve eaten here quite a few times over the last 7 or 8 years. Clearly a new direction but it’s a no from us! The food was tasty enough and staff lovely…..but… I had the special monkfish dish. £40 for literally three mouthfuls. No veg so that was extra. My wife had crab curry again quite flavoursome but just somehow lacking for the market they are trying to be in and quite difficult to eat. Go back to fresh fish cooked how you like it….. chain restaurants like Rockfish are better. I hate leaving average reviews too.

The food and service were excellent!! Restaurant in a lovely location on the back beach and very small with only 6 tables. Food was very good if a little overpriced and quite small portions especially the scallops starter.

It was pouring with rain, we opened the door and was greeted with a warm smile and was shown to our table. I was given a beautiful red rose for Valentines Day. The menu looked very inviting but the special board took my eye. Cuttlefish Ramon and take it from me it was outstandingly delicious 😋. My husband had Ribeye Steak cooked to perfection as he likes it blue 😋. We were looked after by Karina. My choice for dessert was the cheese selection 😋 perfect. Hubby had pineapple carpaccio. What a wonderful way to celebrate the day. We would both very highly recommend a visit lunchtime or evening. 100% excellent 🌟 the right way

We happened upon the Crabshack on a Valentines away day to Teignmouth from Somerset and were so pleased to find a table available for lunch. We had great service from Karina and the seafoods ( scallops and mackerel starters and Singapore crab for mains ) we selected were amazing along with a bottle of Prosecco. Alex suggested we should not miss out on the Tiramisu for dessert so we shared one between us and it was perfect along with a double espresso to finish. Lovely chilled vibe in the restaurant with great music playlist and a complimentary rose for my wife just made it a perfect occasion

My wife and I went for our wedding anniversary. We wanted the hot platter which was shown on the menu for £130. It was meant to include a whole lobster and crab claws. The waitress told us that lobster was expensive so it would only be half a lobster. Then she said they had no crab claws and offered us two oysters instead. We ended up having this as we didn't fancy anything else on the menu. The fish of the day was cuttlefish. The only other alternative was hake. Not very good for a supposedly fish restaurant. Most disappointing and definitely wouldn't go again.

What a lovely way to spend an afternoon, lovely, clean surroundings, pleasant staff, we share several delicious fish starters then both had a very large portion of freshly cooked mussels. We’ve eaten at The Crab Shack several times and the food/service is always excellent. Our last visit was on a cold February evening. We were the only people there but we were made very welcome by our waiter Paul and the food, cooked by Ash, was exquisite. Will definitely be back again son.

My wife and I called in for lunch on spec on our first visit to Teignmouth. What a find! We both had hake, which was delicious in a creamy white wine sauce. The manager and waiter were friendly without being pushy, and the service was faultless. The restaurant itself is a good size, quite small but not cramped. It has a pleasant, bright feel to it, with the River Teign in the background. We'll definitely go again. I'm guessing it would be a good idea to book next time. There were a few reserved tables when we turned up.

Lovely decor, beautiful interior, cosy, intimate, tasty food but…. I counted literally 9 chips in my little portion of chips basket and the piece of fish was very small, all for £24. If you have a big belly you will need to spend a lot. £17 for scallops as a starter. Quite extortionate prices compared to other local fish places. This was the cheapest main I think. Fish of the day £45. Rockfish serve their catch of the day for half the price and it’s also fresh with unlimited fries. Our budget was about £40 a head but it was more than than with wine, so not enough for starter. I personally found the waitress quite irritatingly helpful / nice. I like good service but found it a bit much and intrusive. We were finishing our meal and close to paying, and she came and poured more wine into my class without asking if I wanted more. Kept coming to the table with the British service industry smile. Kept asking if everything was ok. Very present/available. Hey, maybe some people’s ideal service! It might have been because there was hardly anyone in there. 😃

I made a booking which I sadly had to cancel. The made the cancellation 4 weeks before we were due to visit but £20 has been taken out of my account. I have emailed and called serval times to get a refund but no response!!!

I was here to look at the menu for my group. I had the hack and it was delicious. Small restaurant near the sea. I am going to have singapore chilli crab when I return in February 2024 with some friends. Quiet nice atmosphere.

We have regularly eaten at the Crab Shack, but this time very disappointed with the new menu. We enjoy seafood and want to taste the delicate flavour, however this time, the flavour of the fish was ruined by over spiced sauces. Hopefully the menu will change back to a more traditional seafood or they will add the sauce on the side so you can decide for yourself.
