Great breakfast and tea all cooked fresh from the local farm butchery great local bread(toasted) too. Would have preferred a fried egg rather than the egg muffin(which was very good) to dip my toast in but hey ho still all really good. Its in a big high roofed unheated barn so could be cold coming into winter. Will call again.

Called in after seeing the excellent reviews on Tripadvisor. We were made thoroughly welcome by the owner Laura. We started off with 2 Lattes which we both thought were the best we had tasted during our week on the Lizard. We then ordered cooked food. My bacon, mushroom, tomato and farm sausage (from the farm next door) were simply delicious. We will certainly return next time we are here.

Top place for a breakfast/brunch. Lovely gluten free options, including a delicious bacon, Brie and cranberry toasty! The Big Pig was spot on with a tasty vegetable muffin. Super dog friendly place. We only discovered on our last but one morning but we still sneaked back for a second visit on our last day!

A party of 3 of us ate today, we are local woman that work in the hospitality industry and we needed to go out and be in a quiet space and be in the other side of the plate for a change! Salty Pig definitely delivered what we wanted, the food was lovely and thank you so much to the lady that cooked it, lovely meal. We also had a great milkshake too. We were made to feel so welcome and will be returning when we can all get some time off together again. I dont think anyone can fault this place and if they do, ignore the haters!

Great find, we had a large group of 8 and we each had The big Pig breakfast, lovely breakfast and great place for little ones as they have a play area in the corner. Definitely worth a visit for a truly lovely breakfast

I had a full English and it was genuinely the most delicious breakfast I have had in the area. Coffee was A-grade too. The staff where so friendly and helpful and where very knowledgeable about allergens as my niece was gluten intolerant. Will eat here again, 5/5.

I visited the Salty Pig several times during my stay at the campsite next door. It sells home made cakes, and a variety of breakfasts and sandwiches. The coffee was amazing, and I ate homemade granola's and a breakfast "pig in a wig". They also sell local produce like the farms meat produce etc, which is handy for cooking at the campsite. Having only opened recently it was great to see it so busy with most of the tables full! Great service and the cafe owner was super lovely and friendly. All in all, will deifnitely visit again when I'm in Cornwall. Happy to see some small businesses after the pandemic busy and full of lovely people.

We called in for a breakfast whilst on holiday. The choice for food was good, the mushrooms tasted lovely and so did the bacon, it all tasted like it should and not cheap food. Well worth a visit.

We travelled a long way to try this cafe! There was a large group of us as a family with young children and the staff couldn’t have been more welcoming. Advising us of the best dishes, their personal favourites and helping us with activities for our youngest child. The mochas were the best we have ever tasted and the toasties were Devine. Being so full from our meals we bought some freshly baked cakes for our journey home which were also so yummy. We also purchased some of the foods from the farm shop in the cafe for when we got back home. I couldn’t recommend this cafe more, the atmosphere is was so lovely which can be hard to find when dining in a larger group. Thank you so much to the salty pig we will be making a trip back ASAP!

Disappointing and a bit odd. I’d found The Salty Pig via Instagram before we went on holiday, checked out reviews on here etc. We’ve been visiting the area for many years so know a few lovely places but are always up for finding new cafes etc. We walked in an hour after it opened and there was a couple with coffee and a group of people on laptops who weren’t eating. A girl got up and came to tell us ‘food and drink will be a while because I’ve got bits and things to do’ and walked off!!!!!! We sat down at the very dirty table - it stuck with food and smears and dribbles of coffee etc (gross even without Covid), asked ourselves what on earth we were doing bothering to sit down after that greeting (I’m unwillingly to part with £50 for a family breakfast if I don’t even get a pleasant hello), so upped and left. It was just really, really weird. You’re either open or you’re not, you don’t tell people there will be an indeterminate wait because you’ve got ‘bits to do’. It was deathly quiet, it’s a very bare space, cold & unwelcoming, dirty, and they couldn’t be further from rushed off their feet so goodness knows what was going on. Rude and odd. Glad we left. Explains the 1 star review on google.

... it's actually a mini omelette which just tops off the hearty Big Pig breakfast perfectly. Real, local quality food at value for money prices. The coffee is genuinely the best for miles around, and very friendly service with a relaxed vibe. Will be back !

Quality friendly little place with excellent service, the only negative being that once you have the superb coffee and fabulous sausage and bacon roll that sets you up for the day, any other cafes you visit in the area just disappoint !

We received a very warm welcome from Laura and her team at The Salty Pig. The breakfast was delicious and with ice creams, local produce and lots of homemade baking there’s something for everyone, we’ll definitely be back for a Cornish cream tea !

Popped in here for a cream tea, deliciously warm scones with jam and clotted cream, a real treat. Very reasonably priced. The staff were lovely, very friendly, would definitely recommend.

The Tolcarne Inn is a pub in Newlyn, Cornwall, just outside of Penzance. I happened to be on my way to watch a film about an Irish architect, when I stopped in the Tolcarne Inn for lunch. Suspicious of gastro pubs, ranging from uppity to down-facing. Ladies were pleasant, very quiet clientele, like a village pub. I sat by the window with my book about the cognitive decline of Joe Biden, but when the food came, I forgot about Uncle Joe entirely. I ordered turbot with hollandaise sauce and asparagus, a side of boiled “Cornish dailies” and a white Americano. A warning about “small plates”. Quite, quite. You could have lost the fish in the wash, the two asparagus were stolen from a fisher-maid’s garden, the hollaindaise failed to mask the paltry dimensions. The bowl of potatoes, lathered in butter and dill, was substantial, boasting my fish like a thin man wearing large clothes. (£25 for the lot. Suspicious? I thought so too.) After the first mouthful, I was shocked. I chewed slowly, methodically, the flavours informing my tongue. The turbot was cooked with rock salt; the flesh keeps shape, easy to pull apart. The hollandaise has none of that wiry flavour; it’s smooth, not unlike a Bailey’s. Asparagus are tender, simple. Boiled “Cornish dailies” - new potatoes - are tender too. Dill and butter not overpowering. When you are filled with shock during a meal, this usually comes from the waitress dropping your plate, or some punter attacking the bar, but rarely the food. My modest meal shocked me. I forgot about Joe Biden, remembering my youth. Perfect fresh fish - prepared differently in Bermuda, but the same sensation. The outside world vanishes. Flawless food. Tourists ambling in and out of the pub, acting like the Inn was just another watering hole. No, no, no. My little turbot and asparagus and potatoes forced me back into the shell of my youth, I thought about people thinking about youth; what form it took, and so on. Walker is in shock, on the verge of tears. Now, at this point, you reach out and touch your partner’s hand, but I was alone. So the waitress came over and asked, “Is your food alright?” Because I’m thinking about time and space, prompted by the excellent food, I look up slowly, like a post-operative patient jigged back to life. “It’s flawless,” I said. “Suspiciously flawless,” I added. She smiles, walks away. Meanwhile another customer - frothy, biscuit-shirted - has the audacity to say their beer is “a bit frothy” when archangels and medcine men craft in the kitchen like so many Cornish saints. A chef peers out of the kitchen, catching my eye. A smug smile on his face. “Yes, you are God,” I want to say; I want to sing this from Newlyn to Planet Neptune.

Had a lovely Sunday lunch here. I had roast lamb and my wife had roast beef, very very tasty. For dessert I opted for the superb bread and butter pudding with clotted cream whilst my wife savoured the " St. Buryan Mess" which was delicious. The staff were lovely and our three dogs were welcome. All in all super pub food in a great location.
