Had a meal on Saturday with a friend. The item I ordered was not what I got. I asked for some bbq sauce & was told I would have to pay. My friends meal was too chewy she couldn't eat it. We tried to speak to a member if staff who clearly wasn't interested. We have been going regular but I think it while until we go back if we ever do. We have never experienced anything like this before.

Went today with a friend. The meal I asked for was not what I got but I was hungry. I asked for BBQ sauce & was told I would have to pay for it(disgusting). My friend got the gammon & could not eat it as it was too rubbery. Tried to complain & no one was interested. We are in there often but I don't think we will be back. Very disappointed 😞

Went on on Friday night both Nathan and Rebecca were amazing giving out recommendations on drinks and keeping our group entertained and venue spotless

Love this place!! Tracey and the incredible staff (Adrian was our server). the food was amazing as always and service second to none. They made me feel fabulous for my birthday and I left feeling very special. Well worth the reasonable cost for food, and a happy and personable staff. Thank you Saltire!

We came in on Tuesday for a birthday meal we where served by the lovely loana she let us know straight away another big table was in she took all our orders so we where serverd at the same time and our drinks she was friendly and well manered made sure we had everything we needed and we where all okay this is the 2nd time we have been served by loana and she always goes above and beyond makes us feel very welcome will 100% be back

We had a lovely meal at the Saltire. Food was great and Ioana who served us was welcoming and attentive to our needs whilst checking if anyone in our party had allergies. Would definitely recommend and looking forward to another visit.

We visit the Saltire on a regular basis, and each time we go we feel like we are long lost friends returning. Nathan looked after us today, with his usual welcoming and friendly demeanour. The food was as usual very tasty and sizzling hot. It really is a nice straightforward no frills decent food and atmosphere place to visit for food.

The service we received was top notch, we were well taken care of by Nathan who advised us on what was good and did not miss the mark on his recommendation.

Nathan is wonderful and provided an amazing service tonight, he was very welcoming, chatty and polite. The food and drinks were great too!

Service was very good, Nathan does numerous check backs on our table making sure we were happy with food, he served drinks to our table so we didn’t need to get up during dinner. Asset to your team.

Waited 1 hour and no meals yet!!!!!

Loved coming here years ago, my friend reminded me about it so... Decided to take my 2 kids along with me today while my partner was at work. Firstly, I stood at the door waiting to be seated for longer than I should have, felt some acknowledgment would have been nice, "someone will have you seated in a moment" will suffice. I could see it was busy anyway so, I understood. I was finally taken to my table, I sat down to which the waitress swiftly walked away. I was sat with my toddler on my knee thinking, are they bringing me a highchair? (which I requested when booking and should be fairly obvious considering she's a toddler). I'm sure on previous visits I could order from my phone, although I noticed there was no table number, so I thought, "I'll wait until the waitress comes back with the highchair", obviously assuming she was away to get it.... Which evidently she wasn't. A bit of time passed, my toddlers getting impatient on my knee, so I turned round to get a menu, and noticed the menu stand had writing on it stating to order at the bar. This would have been nice to know when seated. A simple, "good evening, here's your menues, once you have decided please order from the bar".... 1 simple sentence would have saved me sitting about like a spare pri*k, rather than just walking off the second I sit down. After a bit of time with no staff in sight and still no high chair, I looked up at the bar, the queue was too long for me to be standing in it with my kids... The fact the waitress noticed I had a toddler and didn't click on I'd need a high chair is a bit poor in the customer service department. The fact I wasn't made aware on the ordering process and also having to wait at the main door without feeling noticed, it's just not how to treat customers. Again, it was very busy, I'm not saying I won't come back, but my 1 star review will remain until I get a better experience as I've never felt so out of place in a food venue before. More staff is evidently needed during the busy times. I feel the staff are probably put under pressure causing them to lose focus on the things that matter to customers. This is why I simply walked out today rather than rasing my concerns with the staff as not their fault, we're human after all. But yeah, the management should get this sorted out because it was such basic customer service skills that caused me to walk today.

Pub food good prices staff pretty helpful.. Pay when you order at the bar but you can ask for an open tab.. Will take your card number but not use it till you go and finalise your bill

Great choice of Pub Grub. Very tasty too. Excellent wine at half the price of a bottle in other Livingston eateries. First ever time here and we will go back again. ps, Beware the the portions are really large and I’m not kidding!

Good food been a couple of times but the service is poor. It's like they don't want your business trying to put me off by saying stupid waiting times when half the tables are empty

Walked in lots of tables available, went to bar to be told we are not taking walkins. All the tables are booked. I said what about sitting outside was told no, said what about out the front told no. Asked about bar told no. I mean the place wasn’t busy, there was about 8/9 tables available. The a customer said to me go onto their website and book a table, that’s what we had to do. The bar staff don’t tell you that instead it took for a customer to tell me. No wonder it wasn’t busy probs turning people away all day long and this is a pub that should be wanting to make money. I went onto Greenking website and booked a table. I did this whilst still standing at the bar. I was made to stand there for a good 10 mins. The male with dark hair and beard was serving and the duty manager i believe with blue hair was hovering about at the bar but not serving. When i did get served i ordered some drinks and a group of men came in wanting food, the male said we are not taking walkins today and the female staff member said you can go into bar and get served food from there after me being told no. It’s crazy. When i went up to order our food, the male was serving in the bar and the female member of staff was talking to a customer at the other end of the bar for a good 8/10 mins not even acknowledging me standing there. An elderly couple came in and were stood beside me waiting to be served also. It’s just not good enough. The food was ok, my nachos were a bit burned but was ok, waiting time was reasonable but the customer service was shocking. I won’t be back anytime soon and it’s sad as it’s a 5 minute walk from my house. I would rather jump in the car and drive to the Livingston Inn for food etc because the service there is second to none. Saltire have a word with your staff and please do better.

Says it was open at 9am for breakfast it wasn't stood and waited to 10 just incase but it didn't open a cleaner came out and told me they won't be open to 11 12 ISH. We have 15 lads coming for breakfast for a pre stag breakfast so they missed out.

Meal was ok but we had to wait over an hour for it to be served. We had to go up to the bar twice to ask when it would be ready. Puts us off going back.

Would definitely eat here again next time when in Scotland the Food was Nice and as well as the Puddings were lovely Only complaint would be when my mom ordered just Mashed Potato and Steak nothing else only with gravy but it came with onions and peas that’s the only complaint I have Definitely would eat there again

We just popped in for a little lunch. Got BOGOF burgers, which were great. Hot & fresh with salad & chips on the side. Really reasonably priced, great deal for us OAP's. Thank you Saltire, keep up the good work.

Good food nice staff and a nice pub

Enjoyed our food but could have been hotter. Disappointed yet again as they were out of orange juice, so couldn't get a cocktail. Quite a common occurrence midweek

First time in restaurant . Work lunch . Nice pleasant greeting , asked if we had any allergies which is good. Food was very nice , fair priced menu . Will definitely be back for lunch meal was fab thank you .

It was a really bad experience. I booked a table, when I arrived they told me to choose one from the couple available, so, no table reserved. Ordering the food it seemed that most of the things were lacking. In a table of 4, 2 had to change their order three times because there was lack of stock food, then the 2 stakes ordered rare cooked, came well done. So, lack of food, food poorly cooked and the service… I didn't feel welcome. Maby it was just a bad day but I don't think I will be back.

Was there 11/08/24 at 14:30 ish the service was very slow and dreadfull . The server was not good at all came and dumped the food on the table never said a word came with the rest of the order and did the same. I had the flatbread kebab with fries which were lukewarm koftas were dry and overcooked. My companions at the table had the Sunday roast which must have been kept under the grill ,also dry. We have been using here fairly regularly and it has been generally good,on this occasion not a good advert . As we had a friend here for the first time we never complained at the time but not sure I will be back and on this performance certainly would not recommend.

If I could, I'd give this place no stars. We had a table booked for 7.30pm for a family meal. There was 11 of us, including 2 children (18 months and 11 years old). By 9.15pm, we still hadn't been served our mains. By this point at least 2 other tables had just left the restaurant, having not been served. Both lots of people had waited over 2 hours each without a single meal being served to them. The restaurant was not busy at all. The manager hid out the way leaving the young people serving to take all the flack for the horrendous service. We had two young boys apologise to us profusely, without an appearance from the manager. The bar staff were obviously still in training not knowing merlot is a red wine and listing off beer and lager when asked for a non alcoholic cider. My mother has early onset alzheimers, we limit any alcohol she has and se enjoys a cider. We usually get her an alcoholic one and then move onto non-alcoholic. The bar staff refused to pop into the bar section to get us a non-alcoholic cider, even though it's the same venue, only separated by a door! I wouldn't return to this venue if you paid me. Absolutely shocking service and attitude from the manager when she did eventually appear. We never did get our food, in fact, we also walked out as both children and my mother were hungry having not had any food since lunchtime! I would advise anyone considering a meal here to go a bit further to the food outlets at the shopping centre, or the chippy round the corner. The Saltire, Livingston is abysmal. Avoid at all costs.

The Saltire, our go to place for a quick note to eat. It's not expensive. The food is always tasty, and plentiful. It's not a Al a carté experience. Just good wholesome no frills food.

Got gammon steak on sizzling platter and macaroni cheese. Both were delicious and on the daytime cost friendly menu. Also chocolate fudge cake lovely. Staff couldn't do enough for you , particularly the manager that day (12th July). Can't recall her name now. Would go again.

Did the steak night deal last Wednesday and they were very good, cooked as asked and great value for money. There was a wait due to a busy period and short staff, but we were advised of that before we ordered so it wasn't a problem. What stood out for my partner and I was the fantastic service that we received from the Manageress, Tracey, who is to be commended for how good she is with the customers. Thank you Tracey for such friendly and excellent service 👏

Very poor in all areas. We know it's relatively cheap but there's no excuse for how bad it was.

What can I say - 1st Danielle - what a star, so helpful and pleasant, even when the restaurant was busy she was the first to offer to help us take group photos and she kept checking in with us to make sure everything was okay, I’m a DM in a restaurant myself so I’m well aware of how difficult her job can be sometimes. 2nd food was lovely, hot and plentiful, we all had a great time, and lastly sorry we didn’t leave you any birthday cake none of us could eat another thing so took it home lol

First and LAST VISIT. We waited about three quarters of an hour when the waitress came back to say they could not serve fish due to faulty equipment!! We then checked again with the waitress and was told she was going ti check, it would be just a second. About 15 minutes later, after waiting over an hour, we were served. One our party made the comment "at last' not in a bad way and the waitress reacted badly. The mash potatoes were at least 2 days old, yuk, the steak pie I had was burnt, I fact 'cremated', obviously we did not stay for a pudding as we would normally do. The waitress promised us a refund but never came back. My advice, STAY AWAY if you like your food.

A very nice meal and the staff were great with all of us and our grandchild. The food was an excellent price and I couldn't fault that at all. The only thing was the noise as it is a very busy pub. So if you're out for a quiet meal, this is not the place, but you want very good food then this is the place!

Update after couple months of visiting this place. Service is still terrible, food get slightly better. Bartender has no any problem to talking with colleagues meanwhile ignoring you for 10 minutes. Table full of empty dishes and glasses and nobody care to clean it.

Lovely staff, good atmosphere the food is really good and well priced. Me and my missus started going about a month ago. And we plan to attend loads in the future.

I would certainly return to try the steaks. The food we had was great. The down side was the sticky surfaces, especially the tables and chairs. The carpet was tacky as you walked across it. The staff were attentive and friendly. The food was good and not overpriced.

Great place to meet, have lunch and drinks. Drinks were served to the table after ordering at the bar. Food was served quickly. Good pub food at decent prices. Great service.

The staff are lovely But Danielle makes it the place to go. She is always up for a laugh and makes sure we are all served as quick as possible. The place wouldn't be the same without her. Foods decent You can bring your dog in the place is dog friendly.

Food not up to scratch got hunters chicken today the chicken was tough left half of it. Yous need to up your game to keep the punters coming in sorry had better food elsewhere. I keep trying the saltire hoping it gets better but it doesnt if the food is not right then itsthe slow service at the weekends at night. Need decent chefs and more staff

Meal was good value 2 for under £ 14 sweet order separate apple pie custard was so hot 🔥 like molting lava could not eat it ..took it back .to be confronted with a female staff member rolling her eyes at me as if I was stupid for complaining it was far to hot. .steaming hot to long in the microwave. ..not good.your customer service. Was bad.. making me look stupid in front of your staff members and other customers ..but appart from you. .the rest of the staff were brilliant ..

Had lunch in the Saltire on bank holiday Monday, we had booked a table for 12.30, we arrived at 12.25 on entering the building we were greeted by a loud shout ' have you booked ' I timidly said yes, the female on duty then pointed to a table across the room and said You can sit at that booth over there.Not a great start to proceedings. We placed our order and bought a drink , while we were waiting on our meal and during our meal the loud female was constantly shouting ' have you booked ' at a constantly growing line of potential customers or loudly directing people to a table instead of walking even half the way . There were only two members of staff on duty, at least one more would have made things a bit easier. On the food side of things, We had two mains for £13.49 great food and great value. Good menu with a nice variety of meals at reasonable prices. Will go again. If you are going best book a table it gets busy

The bartender that had served me very unprofessional ,rude no tag on his shirt charges extra money for drinks and when you ask for it back he gives you half of the amount that you are due. Foods good but watch the dodgy bartenders.
