OMG !! This is the centre of the great tasting foods of your deepest desires !!! We popped in here on Monday and fortunately have been back every day since !! The beef teriyaki is just wow, the pulled pork just delicious, but for us the show stopped is the Cottage Pie. Now before anyone turns off at this point, imagine your homemade attempt, where you stand back and pat yourself on the back….then try theirs !!! Worlds apart !! The flavour and mix is worth travelling just to try it ! Never tasted one this good ever and my Nan was a cook !! She would have been trying to get the recipe by any means possible. The staff and service is excellent and the veg and butchers is awesome. We will be back !! AND they do takeout !!! It gets better

Went in for breakfast and was given a menu. Left after waiting 15 min when we realised that the other tables that came in after us had all ordered and been served. No sign of apology or surprise as I thanked them as we left.

This comment rely pains me because this is such a lovely cafe which we visit when we get the chance to, we had breakfast on Saturday which was really good, it was as follows, mine, scrambled eggs on toast (4 pieces of sour bread) extra bacon 3 or four pieces, my partner had the same but two poached eggs instead,”plus extra bacon, we went back today and ordered the same however the amounts were probably under half the amounts we had on Saturday ie:- one poached egg, two slices of toast, mine was a smaller rather sloppy scrambled egg, two slices of toast and extra bacon two small pieces, I’m not sure which was the correct amount but we were charged the same price on both days, which leads me to question how you come about your pricing when the differences are so noticeable, I feel I should say something because it is not acceptable to make a charge without being able to justify why. Maybe we got lucky on Saturday and the proper amount was today but I don’t think so. Anyway whichever, it should be consistent.

Nice coffee shame about the staff. It wasn’t busy yet the blonde girl managed to forget our cake. All we ordered was 2 coffees and 1 cake. It’s not much to ask for. When we asked if we could have our cake please, no apology, just “of course”. The lady on the next table had to ask again for her cup of tea. Again no apology. Too busy chatting g out the back in loud voices “I say jack sh*t, Jack sh*t!” Silly young staff with no professionalism

We went to the Salt Pig last Monday (15/7/2024) and had a lovely time. Locally sourced good quality food. Waitress was lovely & kind. Flat white was very good. The pulled pork was delicious and so were the salads with it. We also enjoyed our cakes we took home fro there. I would highly recommend it and we will definitely be going back.

Top Drawer Having seen the cafe and butchery online I wanted to visit with my wife when we were in the area. Impressed would be an understatement. The set up is smart but fitting, but the key is the people. Friendly staff, without being over the top. Service exemplary, swift not rushed and checking that all was well. The food smelt divine and the two female front of house staff really looked after every customer. We only had coffee and cake. But the coffee was lovely and the bread and butter cake / pudding with dark chocolate, blackberry and apple was sublime. Literally a culinary masterpiece. And my son works in a Michelin starred kitchen. It was that good. The courgette and avocado cake my wife had was also lovely. Definitely worth a visit. This place is amazing.

The Salt Pig in Wareham is a butchers shop and a restaurant on the same premises. I had read about it in a guide book so we decided it had to be done. This place has to be the best breakfast in Dorset. The portions were enormous and as a result we chose to have very lovely homemade baps instead. The sausages, bacon and black pudding are all their own produce from rare breed pigs, and boy did they taste good. I had a huge field mushroom and sausage. My husband had mushroom and bacon and enjoyed it but the bacon was a bit salty. The coffee however was very good indeed. Would we return, oh yes definitely if we were to holiday in Dorset again.

We went for breakfast- 2 adults one child. They were busy but one table left, and moved some chairs for us. Coffee was lovely. Concise menu which meant it was easy to choose- adults had full English and child had waffles with bacon and syrup. Food was all cooked fresh, and was so delicious! A highlight on the full English was the Smokey homemade baked beans which tasted of chorizo. Really recommend this place and we will be back- either to wareham or swanage.

We were shown to a table by Suzie and had a fantastic quiche supported by a beetroot and orange salad and potato salad all washed down with a fab South African white. All delicious! The salads were a taste discovery. While we were seated we watched Lucy stirring a massive pan containing boiling water and what turned out to be about 10 of the biggest crabs my wife and I had ever seen. We asked if we could buy a couple and then Sean entered the story. He took time out to tell us how long to let them cool and drain and when to eat them. His advice was spot on! Very amiable, jovial man who explained the whole Salt Pig ethos and how everything is sourced locally. Great staff and then we started chatting to three Wareham locals. Everyone absolutely lovely! During a lovely sunny trip to explore Wareham, we chanced upon the Salt Pig, nestled in the heart of North Street, between the River Piddle and the River Frome. - Magnetised by the display of hot food in the window was an immediate magnet, we gazed at the eye-candy of rich mousaka, a substantial vegetable quiche and a very seductive cauliflower cheese (with smoked red Dorset), amongst the array of tempting dishes. - We stepped from the street into a small shop offering quality foods (more on this later) and found ourselves waiting about 20 minutes for a table. This gave us a chance to gaze longingly at a selection of salads in a cool cabinet that include mixed olives, mixed vegetable quinoa, a beetroot salad, home-made slaw and a feta pasta salad. - The dining area could be described as rustic and is split between two small rooms, one at the front with about 4 tables and a view out to the street and one at the back from where you can see the chef working on various delights. We found all the staff very friendly and the atmosphere was relaxed and informal. - We both plumped for the MOUSAKA, which was an absolute joy to eat - clearly full of top quality ingredients including a well flavoured cheese. I highly recommend a bottle of Dorset Draft cider to wash it down with. Perfect compliment and neither too sweet nor too dry. You get a choice of 2 sides included with your main. We both opted for the MEDITERRANEAN VEG which was excellent. I had the FETA PASTA which was a pure taste bud explosion including chive, spinach and tomatoes. My partner also had the COLESLAW and an extra side of the BEETROOT SALAD. We couldn't fault anything. It all had and authentic home-made taste. - Now we hit a dilemma. We had planned to go up the road for tea and cake but we were seduced by a CHOCOLATE BREAD & BUTTER pudding, served warm with a little cream. The chocolate had a kick like a decent pain au chocolate, raising this to joint first in my favourite bread and butter deserts of all time. - All this for under £45 for the two of us felt like real value for money. Can't wait to go back. - As for the SHOP, it sells a ranger of Dorset products including fresh fish, meat, vegatables, cheeses and various jams, chutneys and so on. I heartily recommend the DORSET GINGER BEER but be warned it is by far the hottest ginger cordial I've ever tried (I loved it). Their home made sausages are also incredible. We bought some BEEF, TOMATO & CHILL sausages to cook the next day - superb texture and flavour.

We popped in to The Salt Pig around brunch time on a Sunday having heard good things, and even though it felt we’d probably come between services the staff were great and explained what the lunch menu would be. When the food came out it all looked amazing, and we asked for a portion of the cauliflower cheese and the quiche to share, which came with 2 salads. Both dishes were excellent, probably the best cauliflower cheese I’ve ever had, and a great example of comfort food done really well in a relaxed environment Also very reasonably priced considering the food we got, you’d spend way more in an average pub for way less. Having driven through Wareham a few times but have never been to the Salt Pig - how shameful. We called there at nearly closing time to grab a much needed coffee following a stop on a long journey. Nobody else in Wareham would serve us either had to wait for them to be on the evening menu or not able to provide anything vegetarian. We were just heading back to the car somewhat dejected and saw them sweeping up at the Salt Pig. We asked we could have a coffee to takeaway and the young lady said absolutely and to come in. When in the young lady behind the counter asked if we would like something to eat too. I asked if this was ok as it was just 8 minutes to closing and she said absolutely as this meant they were still open and happy to serve us. What a breath of fresh air. Not only was the service by both staff brilliant but the food we had was also absolutely delicious. They explained about the ethos of the cafe and we were very impressed. Even though we are vegetarian there was plenty of choice for us. Such a jewel amongst the not so happy to serve you attitude. Thank you we shall be back and would definitely recommend them.

Not knowing Wareham, as we walked through decided to stop for a spot of lunch. One of the locals recommended Salt Pig and we were SO pleased we stopped here! They have a fantastic fresh seafood selection, and various land animal cuts and products, both extremely good quality and well priced. Bought a bunch of cheeses also, and then saw the fresh buffet-style display. They do a takeaway Sunday roast, but we had our eyes on the mouth-watering quiche (the best ever!) and the beef teriyaki. There was also cauliflower cheese, chili con carne and roasted vegetables on offer at the time. The roasted parsnips with sesame seeds were divine and the hand-made sausage rolls a true treat. We also had deserts (rocky road and chocolate cake), ice cold cider and sparkling raspberry drinks, most excellent coffee and then bought loads of extra stuff to take home (venison burritos, olive & sundried tomato mix, artichokes, more chocolate) - everything just looked so good, if I didn't have a heavy hiking backpack I would've bought the whole shop! And to top it all off, the super friendly and helpful ladies were a true bonus! All I wished for is that I could see their beautiful smiles behind the stupid masks - hope we can return to normality soon - THIS ENDS WHEN WE SAY IT DOES! Compliments to the chef and a fantastically run operation, a true gem!!!

We bought two small, but quite expensive, quiches to take on a picnic. Unfortunately, they had chosen to include an obviously rotten green pepper that was bitter and very unpleasant with an aftertaste that lingered for some time. Ate about a quarter before biting into the rotten pepper and threw the rest away. I really feel that if you're charging the kind of prices this place does you could at least use fresh produce. Will shop at the Italian bakery over the road next time and would recommend that you do too. Also worth noting that it is the only restaurant website I've ever looked at that invites you to book a table but does not include any menus or prices.

Visited for Sunday roast and there was no veggie option. The staff were fairly friendly and I said if there was a veg gravy I would have a roast. My roast arrived with gravy on the side because it was meat gravy. I would not have ordered the roast if I was unable to have gravy! The Yorkshire was inedible with it gravy. It was rock hard, dry and a bit burnt. I was served ONE piece of potato. The meat eaters all got two. And whilst the chef could be heard bragging about how amazing his own roast potatoes were, we were stifling to eat our half cooked ones. Honestly one of the worst roast potatoes I have ever tried. I had the same amount of veg as the Met enters just without the meat. To my surprise when the bill came they charged £15 the same as the meat dish! Unbelievable! I queried it and they knocked off £5 but considering I actually didn’t eat half my plate it was still a complete rip off. I couldn’t make a fuss so as not to embarrass my friend who’s birthday meal we were out for. My recommendation would be not to say you cater for veggies unless you actually can. Nobody can eat a roast without gravy.

Went for lunch and ordered beef sandwich. The beef was lovely and the side order of roasted new potatoes was good. The bread, at least an inch thick totally overwhelmed the beef. The crusts, though fresh, we’re just too big. However, the most disappointing part of my lunch was the small salad served with the sandwich. It was mostly pea shoots and they were mostly yellow...... way past their sell by date. I did point it out to the waitress (who was very friendly). She offered to get me a fresh one and told me she would pass my concerns on. I didn’t want a replacement, my enthusiasm for my lunch had somewhat disappeared. We paid and left and won’t be visiting again. It’s not cheap, it should be first class, it wasn’t even second class.

My sister and I were visiting our cousin for the day and came here for lunch, as she recommended it.The menu is simple, but that is no bad thing. All three of us had the quiche and chose a variety of hot and cold side dishes. I chose red cabbage and coleslaw. The portion size was more than adequate for us and the young lady serving was polite and friendly. The furnishings are basic and rustic. It is obviously a popular place, judging by the number of people dining and visiting the adjoining butchery and deli.We thoroughly enjoyed the food, but I cannot give five stars because the establishment allows dogs; in my opinion this is completely wrong in places where food is being served. The dog on the premises while we were there was very large. Its owners were on the next table, so we did our best to sit as far away from it as possible. While it intrigues me as to why dog owners should want to bring their dog when they are out to lunch, restaurateurs do not need to pander to them.

But they don’t try to be, if you want to experience a real local flavour, in the knowledge of having local food and nicely cooked in a home style, then this is the place!

Having been to the Salt Pig many many times over the years and enjoyed the food tremendously, I was really disappointed by the cheese and chutney sandwich I had there at lunch time. The bread was dry and tasteless, very little butter on the bread and hardly any chutney although the waitress kindly brought me some more. The cheese wasn’t tasty and I expected better as the food is always so good.,Not worth the money I was charged, over £10 for a cheese sandwich and a small coffee. Certainly won’t have that again.

Recommended by the “blurb” in our holiday accommodation we visited in the afternoon hoping for for a late lunch. We were both disappointed and not disappointed. Both our initial choices were unavailable but the replacements we chose were excellent. A hearty beef casserole and a cheese & chutney sandwich. The sandwich far from being a “snack” option was made from substantial doorstep slices of bread with a decent amount of filling. I’m told the casserole was flavoursome and filling.

Having seen reviews on Tripadvisor I called in and had a most delicious lunch. I would normally not eat quiche but it was irresistible. Not too rich and balanced well with the beetroot and horseradish. Excellent value and good surroundings. Will look forward to eating the local sausages I bought from adjoining butcher shop.

Really looked forward to eating at The Salt Pig. Dinner, no closed at six. Brunch? Breakfast finished at 11.00. A few pastries on offer, tried the vegetable muffin, very dry. After seeing all the wonderful loooking meats on display we left hungry and disappointed.

Found this place on Tripadvisor when visiting the Wareham area - and we were so glad we went. The quiche was simply sublime, a large slice of deep, well filled eggy cheesy goodness with a couple of completely delicious salads, one a perfect Waldorf - generous with walnuts and crunchy apple and the other a light, zingy coleslaw. My companion had a herby tabouleh and a sweet and tangy tomato, olive and balsamic concoction. We came back a few days later and were not disappointed second time around either!

Lovely informal cafe with top class food. The Sunday roast is to die for but need to book for that. There is more seating at the rear so don't be put off if you look through the window and see all the tables are occupied

My Aunt knew about The Salt Pig and brought me here one sunny day in August. It's tiny, but that's part of its charm. You choose your main dish and then choose salads to go with it. Good vegetarian selections, and some meat pies too.

We arrived half an hour before closing and we’re welcomed in. Delicious quiche and a tasty salad. Service was friendly and prompt. Only downside was the noisy cleaning equipment in the back kitchen.

I really want to like this place. So much so that I visited 3 times in a week while staying locally (and also went to the one in Swanage). The food and drinks were all lovely, but every single time I had to ask repeatedly and go to the counter to get a menu, to get served, and to pay. At the final visit I'd finished my coffee before anyone had found me a menu so I gave up. If you want a very leisurely bite to eat then it's good.

Have to go here everytime I visit Wareham. The quiche is to die for - cheesey, deep, salty and scrumptious. Had the watercress, cauliflower and leek quiche today but have tried a few others in the past and all hit the mark.

Had a couple of great meals here very tasty and nicely presented. It is quite an intimate place as not many tables, however well worth a visit.

Had early bird set meal. Food was fine, staff friendly, decor etc fine but...just not better than OK. Minor gripes like getting Dijon mustard when asked for french (I know its from France but!) after just long enough not to want to ask them to swap it and let food get cold.

Here you will find a delicious selection of local produce prepared with traditional rustic charm and flavour. Definitely worth sampling the home-reared sausages!

We had a really lovely lunch here. The food was plentiful and tasty and the staff were very helpful in helping cater for my children (such as filleting the fish for them and serving the sauce on the side). Would definitely recommend. You can buy fresh fish and quality meat there too, which is a bonus!

We had a take away sandwich (shoulder of lamb) and a mixed salad (a mix of all their salads in a box) and a couple of cold coffee drinks. Total was over £14 for our little picnic by the river but well worth it. Delicious food. We will return when we visit Wareham again.

Went in for coffee & cake. Cakes were a bit hidden but choose chocolate sponge Orio version. We went outside to a table and someone came out to put the awning down to keep the sun off our heads, really kind.

Roast lunch today, we booked having eaten there previously with a great experience. Sadly not the same today, service was lax and food Luke warm. The restaurant does a roast lunch takeaway and the staff seemed to concentrating on getting these out in preference to restaurant guests. We had planned to eat dessert but we're so frustrated we paid and left.

We visited the Salt Pig for some lunch on a recommendation from a friend. It’s only got a limited number of tables so we were lucky to get in, we’ Definitely be going back for some more but we’ll book next time.

A Sunday roast has turned into a bit of a weekly habit and the salt pig still does the best roast of anywhere I’ve tried - and it’s only £12.95. An absolute steal!

We called here for lunch. The place was full in the front and went into the rear by the kitchen. Within minutes we were offered the chance to move to the main part. Beautiful lunch with excellent attentive service. The trout and game casserole with fantastic veg was just what we needed. We returned later in our stay for excellent coffee and again efficient service.

The salt pig does very good cooked food and has takeaway options that are delicious. The quiche is always lovely and a regular purchase. They do great local produce and one of my partners favourites is the lamb pie.

Told by a local about the Salt Pig we decided to give it a try. Very good, locally sourced food. A good mix of wholefood, vegetarian and meat dishes for lunch menu at the time we visited. The day we went I coulldn't honestly say there was much of an atmosphere but the food was tasty and varied with a good choice. I'd definitely return. Pleasant staff. More cafe like than restaurant though substantial meals provided. Licensed.

We visited the Salt Pig today for a family Sunday lunch. I’d read some mixed reviews on Tripadvisor but all of the food reviews were good so we booked. I’m so glad we did. It’s a fantastic find serving local produce. The chef was friendly and chatted to us while serving the pass. Our roast lamb was full of flavour. The cauliflower cheese was better than mums according to my daughter who had three portions. Fabulously cooked veg. Service was relaxed and friendly. We will definitely be back. A great find.

What a gem of a place. Happy friendly staff, who couldn't do more for us. We booked a table of 7 but had an extra person turn up and it was no problem. 3 vegans and a dairy/nut allergy sufferer, but so much choice, and help from the staff to find the right food. The portion sizes were insane and the cakes were out of this world! Cannot rate highly enough, we really enjoyed it all. Can't wait to come back (if you'll have us, sorry for the chaos)!

Bloody brilliant. Food and ambience superb. Service with a smile. Superb plaice and monkfish Thai curry. The desserts are all made by the chef. We had a pavlova but look forward to coming back for the chocolate torte. Very underrated restaurant of the highest echelon.

Fab food for my sons party...at a great price. The staff couldn't do enough. Great location. There was enough food to feed hungry bellies and it was delivered hot and at the time requested. Well done!

The was an afternoon tea birthday celebration but the standard of the food was disappointing. There were only two types of finger sandwiches. The scones had clearly been reheated and were still steaming hot 20 minutes after being served and therefore the clotted cream melted into butter and were very chewy. The staff did offer more scones. The macaroons were of a poor quality - soft and not crispy on the outside. The venue is lovely and the staff polite and helpful but overall the quality of the food for the price was disappointing.
