The Salt Beef Bar in Barnet

Not kosher but excellent salt beef and tongue, you will be hard pressed to find better. We get take away and eat at home with pickles and lemon tea. Family all love it when they come to visit.

The staff nice but the following very bad. 1, the toilet is as big as a match box so if you're disabled or larger than a twig forget it. 2,ordered a Latka and a Salt Beef sandwich, both utterly tastles. The Latka was just a re-fried potatoe, I could not taste any onion or seasoning. It's called salt beef but the beef was utterly tasteless, could not taste any salt or pepper or anything. Prices for eat in. Latka £1.50 Salt beef sandwich £8.00 It seems that most places today are taking out the salt and seasoning when cooking kosher food which is absolutely ridiculous. Sorry about the review but it needs to be done.

Went there for take away. Did not give exactly what was asked for, went back a couple of times, but experience just got worse. I think they resent having to do anything. These people could not be more sour or unfriendly. The beef doesn't taste bad, but certainly not cooked with any kind of love. Proper heimisha food at its best, like you'd find in the old east end or at a downtown New York deli. Well priced, though pickled cucumber with your salt beef sandwich is extra. Just missing kishke, kugel and a range of different pickled cucumbers, and cans of cream soda. Service could be better, the workers are a bit miserable and look like they would rather be in a war zone. Really tasty and fresh though. I would definitely recommend a visit or two.

One of my strangest experiences in a restaurant. The whole staff were devoid of and personality or warmth. The restaurant is situated in a Jewish neighborhood along with a very Jewish orientated menu and Katz pictures on the wall and yet the owner and waitress say they are not serving kosher food, which maybe the case but it was unexpected. My feedback sounds harsh and I would say that if you don't mind the zombie like staff, then the beef is worth going for. It is beautifully cooked and tender. The mustard sauce is really hot but I liked that.

Used to be the finest salt beef in NW London. Since covid quality deteriorated as did the demeanour of the owner and staff. Horrible attitude. Had a meal there 21st and something was off (probably the coleslaw) and one of our party was very sick for 72 hours. It is a shame, I would not eat there again!

I go to this restaurant every year since when I was leaving in London more than 10y ago. Last time was 3y ago and for some reason this time I found this place different than before, everything is changing and I was not feeling as before, for sure the quality is same but service and atmosphere changes and is not anymore one of my best place. I go in to eat in this unassuming little cafe, every couple of months, as it's an hour away from my place - but well worth the visit. Delicious salt beef, and the tongue is also really good, as it is chopped liver. My Jewish aunt and uncle love it here, they always stock up on goodies to take home. Portions are generous on eat-in, so I'm not sure what to make of the comment below on the 'manager cheating on weight' in a home delivery.

Always used to get salt beef sandwiches at Bloom’s in Golders Green and Whitechapel. The salt beef and latkes here are even better. I just love this place. Treat yourself!

I ordered 200g Salt beef and 200g tongue. When the food arrived the portion looked small so got tempted to weight it out. Each was 160g!! Immediately called them and politely explained the situation but the manager was rude and aggressive, denied it and hanged up on me!

Super moist flavourful salt beef in soft fluffy rye bread. Nice mustard, could have done with a bit more as well as some pickle but saw afterwards that pickles can be ordered as a side. We did order sides of latkes though that were super satisfying, crisp on the outside and fluffy and rich on the inside.
