The Salix Beach Cafe in Isle of Wight

It is an incredible cafe in Isle of Wight. This is the more famous cafe with a good indoor ambience, friendly staff and an incredible soft spongy soft icing carrot cake. They roast their own beans which are from the Isle of Wight. I found this experience to be very good and suggest any one to visit it. Best place to walk to it is from the hope long stay car park. The walk is 3 minutes from this car park.

You couldn't ask for a better spot to sit and watch the world go by on a sunny afternoon. We got a couple of drinks and were over charged by £3.50 luckily we noticed and it was rectified . We ordered a burger ,a sausage bacon and egg bap and some chips,quick service but you couldn't even cut the bun on either with a knife ,it was chewy and rubbery ,didn't make for enjoyable eating . I don't know if it had been microwaved as it was warm. I shall spend my money elsewhere .

We spent an amazing afternoon at the Salix, we had a very chilled bottle of Pinot in a freezing ice bucket perfect for the hot sunny conditions. Our food consisted of two large beautifully presented salads, chosen from a varied menu. The afternoon was made even better with the addition of live music ( apparently there is live music everyday during the summer). The staff were helpful and very friendly. I would highly recommend a visit to the Salix

Wonderful location. We sat and had an ice cream and the choice and flavours available made it hard to choose! Very reasonably priced, great view, really friendly staff.

The bestest cheese scone ever and the savoury ‘cream tea’ is GENIUS - Cheese scone, cream cheese and spiced chutney!!! Lovely mocha and fab hot chocolate A light lunch for around £8-£9 each, simply amazing and lovely staff too

After a long walk from Sandown... I was looking forward to getting some sustenance at the Salix and was not disappointed. Prices are reasonable, staff are lovely and you do get a good feeling about the place and the views are lush!

Great staff, they had no problems with our food allergies. Nice place to sit and watch the world go by.

Busy Sunday which you would expect as beautiful weather. 26 mins to wait for bacon rolls they came straight after me asking how much longer. Don't mind the wait as its busy what I can't forgive was the stale hard with no taste bread roll. £4.50 was so disappointed.

An acceptable English breakfast professionally served. My only suggestion would be an improvement of sausage quality, a doubling of eggs, and a halving of toast and tomatoes. The coffee was excellent and oat milk was an option. The sea view and friendliness were just right.

Myself & 7 others swim every Saturday and yesterday we swam at Shanklin. I had contacted The Salix to see if they could keep tables for us and they did. The staff were so lovely, nothing was too much trouble. The food was hot, plentiful and so much choice. We can't thank you all enough for making us so welcome. See you again soon. Xx

Lovely place for a spot of lunch, well worth the visit. Great selection, food was delicious and portions huge. Staff coukdnt be more friendly and we loved all the nik naks for sale. Lovely view and location, though sorry to hear it's up for sale.

We had a full English breakfast one October morning, after swimming. The best I've eaten in a long time.

Not as good as the reviews. Bought our scones very promptly. But unfortunately no drinks. 20 mins later we asked and had lost our order. Eventually received our drinks but way to late for enjoyment. Wouldn’t bother going again.

Best place to get breakfast which is served all day here. They offer 2 rashers of back bacon, 2 sausages, homemade hash brown, perfectly fried egg, tomatoes, mushrooms, baked beans (in separate pot) and 2 rounds of toast & butter (choice of white, whole meal or granary). All this served with a smile (quick service) costs a bargain £8.50. Excellent value imo. Wide choice of drinks and a sausage for the dog. Setting couldn’t be nearer the sea, you’re virtually on the beach. Very pleasant staff also.

Delicious breakfast, excellent service, delightful staff and an excellent view. The cafe also sells gifts and supports local charities. Highly recommended!

We came over to Shanklin for the day from Southampton and discovered this amazing cafe by chance after a long beach walk. We were drawn in by the fantastic live music and sat inside for coffee and ice-cream with our two children. The atmosphere and friendliness of the staff was so fantastic we moved to an outside table for a more coffee, cake and a longer stay. I loved the little crafts for sale and purchased a picture to remind me of a beautiful afternoon. The duo who were playing were fantastic and the whole experience made our day, thank you.

Booked a sea view table well in advance and the owner had set up a lovely table for us. Food and service is great and there was a great guitarist/singer too. Will be back again next year.

Great service and welcome. Great toasted panini, chips and coffee. Managed to get a table on the balcony. Was able to lock our bikes and just enjoy the chill and view. Staff were excellent.

Always enjoy visiting the Salix. Often pop in after walking the dog or paddleboarding. Full English, bacon butty or coffee and cake. All very tasty. Welcoming cafe with excellent views of the bay.

We come here every time we visit Shanklin for a bit of lunch. Excellent food, friendly service and an overall relaxing atmosphere. Right on the beach away from the slot machines and crazy golf it’s perfect for us, especially when the sun is shining :)

Had tea and scone. Delicious 😋. The cook was a champion baker. The scone was so delicious. I’ve never had such a delicious scone. Well done to you. I’d definitely recommend.

We called in for some warming drinks on a cold and windy day, just before Christmas. There were seats and a table right by the log fire. Perfect. The staff were jolly and attentive and, as a result, all the customers (of all ages) seemed to enjoyed their visits. If we visit the area again, we'll definitely be back.

Firstly, if you are a lover of coffee, make sure you come to the salix, I cannot advice this enough. This is the best Coffee I have ever had in my life, I'm not sure it will ever be beaten. Secondly and probably more importantly, the people that own the Salix are the most wonderful people with great taste in all aspects, really friendly and caring. The food and especially the coffee is quick to arrive. The view is wonderful, as it is right by the seaside, with either inside sitting in the warm with big windows to see the sea or a decking out front to sit virtually on the beach. Ps make sure you try they're unique hash browns, they're incredible.

what a gem of a place 5 stars isn't enough

Again Google maps say this is open but walked past it today and it's most definitely closed and is up for sale!!!! Update: Thanks for the info and offer of a drink but sadly only in Shanklin for the day.

Great location 11quid for gin and tonic and coffee. Coffee was so hot it burned my tongue. Milk should be 68 degrees for a good coffee.waste money and no allergen products at all sono drink great view.shame

We ordered vegetarian all day breakfast and a prawns sandwich along with cheesy fries. Veg sausages were amazing. We didn't expect that. Cheesy fries were tasty. Prawn sandwich is decent. Friendly staff and good service.

Fantastic little place to stop off for lunch mid way on a walk, like we did when walking from Shankin to Sandown and back. We sat outside and ate in the sunshine. The service was super quick and the food was delicious. The staff were really attentive and the toilet very clean. We had a breakfast bap and the cheese, med veg and pesto panini.

On holiday and after being let down on numerous occasions cafes closed or not serving food, found this gorgeous hidden beach cafe. Breakfast was amazing very tasty, unusual hashbrown nice and crispy and poached eggs cooked to perfection looking out across the sea, beautiful, Staff helpful and friendly, definitely 5 stars 🌟

Beautiful seafront location, spacious, easly accesible on wheelchairs. The manager was superhelpful arranging the tables for us. The food was lovely and the service quick. The vibe very relaxed and friendly. There's life music in the afternoons, 2 days I was there, I listened to chilled guitar pieces by Dylan, Johny Cash and the next day there was a great reagge spontainous dance off. Wonderful.

Coped with lunch in form of 4 adults and 2 small children and mix of drinks, fish fingers etc for kids and various baguettes for grown ups. All very friendly and flexible - helped move umbrellas so we were on terrace but in shade. Large portions and fresh salads with baguettes. Would recommend to anyone. 50p to use loo but very clean (and lots to read in there).

This is a friendly little place that does a fair breakfast and is perfectly placed for the dog friendly section of beach at Shanklin, and great seaside views.

Excellent service, couldn't ask for better. Patiently dealt with our party, and was very welcoming. Kid-friendly, Adult-friendly and everything in-between. Balcony with an excellent view over the beach and a ramp up to the establishment.

Every thing a beach cafe should be. Dog friendly, our furbaby loved the dog ice cream, almost as much as we loved getting a long cold alcoholic drink!

First stop on our latest visit to the island. We were looking for breakfast after arriving on an early ferry and arrived half an hour before opening at 9am. Welcomed by a pleasant lady who we look to be the owner who invited us to take a seat whilst they finished setting up. We both enjoyed the full breakfast and hot drinks that were actually hot. Delighted with the service,food and the price. Highly revommended .

Lovely place, good food and coffee, smashing staff.

The Salixis is always very welcoming with friendly staff and a pleasant atmosphere. Food has always been good, with lovely views and is our go-to cafe whenever we are on the island.

This little cafe right on the sea front does some excellent coffee. It was well made and came at a reasonable price. They use a table numbering system, where you go up and order, then your drinks are brought to your table. I didn't try their cakes/food, however the items available look very appetising. The location is nice, with good views out across Sandown bay. It's a quick walk from Shanklin seafront, and a longer walk from Sandown.

Stopped here, whilst out for a walk. It’s a lovely cafe, with very friendly staff, who are receptive and welcoming. Decided to stay for lunch, the food was delicious and the service was excellent. Don’t go anywhere else in Sandown, this is the best.

Absolutely beautiful place to sit at any time of the day, this time we visited for an ice cream and a late morning walk but we will definitely be visiting again for a lunch next as the menu looked fantastic and the staff are all very polite and helpful.

Perfect location to gaze out at the beautiful ocean. Lots of outdoor seating and tables inside. Everywhere was clean, including toilets. Polite and pleasant staff who were very busy and very organised, looks extremely well managed. Wide range of menu options, which were well presented and tasty when bought to the table. Range of shelves and a dresser, these were loaded with condiments and items to sell from other IOW businesses, ( clean, no dust) which is something they do here, support each other, which is great to see. Only one small drawback, this limits space when busy, with queue to order or pay. Someone directed us to this place and we are so glad to have been as it will definitely be a regular place we go.

Thoroughly enjoyed our breakfast this morning. The poached eggs with avocado was beautifully cooked as were the full English breakfasts. The owners and staff are so welcoming and the eatery has such a welcoming vibe. This place will now be a firm favourite with us....

Shockingly expensive for a hot drink, I'll take a flask next time. Just because you're on the beach doesn't mean you can rip people off. Winds me up when establishments abuse their position. Hot Chocolate tastes like it was out of a cheap drinks machine, cheap and nasty drinks for a hefty price tag. Good one ☹
