The Safari Pizza Co Pizzeria & Wine Bar in Mid Sussex

Came here for lunch today with family who have strict allergies and they were very anxiouse. The staff where amazing and talked us through there allergy protocols and what was safe to eat (practically anything on there menu they could customise to meet needs of gluten and dairy allergies). We all ordered our pizza and they were delicious ! Would definitely recommend to anyone who is looking to cater for allergies as well as anyone just looking for a nice environment and good freash pizza ! ❤️🍕

Had an excellent time at Safari Pizza Co doing a pizza making course. I find Alex very knowledge and clearly had a passion for the pizzas he creates. We covered the whole process from mixing and kneading the dough, to shaping ame covering our pizzas. Though probably not of the standard prepared professionally. I would highly recommend this place. 1

I found this gem of a place in Haywards Heath. 5 min walk from the Premier Inn. I asked to sit at the bar. Thanks to the friendly and welcoming staff (Nathan and his colleagues) I had a lovely evening. Nice ale, lovely biltong and a delicious pepperoni and jalapeño pizza. It was a Thursday evening and packed! Remember to book. Highly recommended.

Amazing pizza ! There is a good range of pizza options on the menu. We have eaten here several times and have always been satisfied. Must book ahead if you want a Friday or Saturday night table. I much prefer eating in , than taking away as due to the style of pizza , it's better eaten as soon as possible.

Possibly one of the best pizzas i have had in a very long time. there were some very unique and delicious options for toppings that you don't usually see. Highly recommend the Biltong toppings. the staff were very friendly and accommodating

Booked last minute for Sunday lunch with the family and thoroughly enjoyed our meal. Staff were friendly and welcoming, pizzas were spot on (I make my own so can be very picky when eating out! But I even bought some dough balls from them it was that tasty!) and found it decent value for money. We'll be back!

What a great place friendly staff and great pizza.. this is not your average bread dough pizza its a real deal Italian style wood fired brick oven pizza how they are meant to be !!!! One issue - they did forget to slice it lol 😂

Went with friends that we hadn't seen for some time and it was good to catch up at Safari Pizza co. The food was good, nice large pizzas freshly made. No left anything. Plenty of drinks on offer. A couple of us had deserts but the rest had already had enough food. Nothing was rushed and the service was very good

Such a lovely experience! We visited today & they welcomed us & our dog; we went for a nice table in the window. They had a great lunchtime deal - pizza & a drink for £12, or pizza and an alcoholic drink for £15. I went for a vegan pizza, with vegan cheese, mushrooms, olives & sun-dried tomato. It was absolutely delicious, and the waiter (tall, dark-haired guy), couldn't have been lovelier! Thoroughly recommend.

We've previously enjoyed good food and good service at this restaurant on several occasions and recommended it to others, but our most recent visit (evening of Sunday 8 Sep) was very disappointing. After 50 minutes waiting for our pizzas we were told that they'd run out of some toppings and that we needed to change our order. Our pizzas eventually arrived after an hour, but one was wrong. They offered to re-make the pizza but the wait had been so long by this point that I agreed for the correct toppings to be added cold. Service was generally quite poor, with a very long wait for the bill leading my husband to just go directly to the till to settle up. An acknowledgement or apology about the long wait for the food would have been appreciated but the serving staff said nothing. Sadly, I don't think we will be retuning any time soon.

4 grown up visited for around 19.00. Great place, well run ,attentive staff, maybe a little patronising, but great fun, very affordable and lovely food....well done to all.

Place was mostly empty and were not given a table. They could have offered seating outside but did not offer. Felt discriminated!

As the name suggests, it has an African vibe (decor and food). The staff is great and the food is amazing too. Truly, one can try something different or stick to all time favourites. I think the pizza dough is a secret to their success. Thanks.

Amazing pizzas - couldn’t recommend enough. Problem was uber eats were really poor delivery! 100% eat in!

Now I’ve been meaning to try this place for a while, being somewhat a connoisseur when it comes to good food, drink and service I’ve seen several glowing reviews and now understand why. I originally ordered over the phone for collection, but when I arrived and was greeted by the friendly team working Sunday evening I decided to have a beer and eat my pizza outside, making the most of the limited sunshine and good weather we have here. Beer choice was very good and it’s great to see somewhere supporting other local businesses and the importance of “shopping local” As I enjoyed this outside I was brought my pizza in quick time and when I asked if I could eat it here was no issue at all, was even offered a pizza cutter and plate. Which I declined and like a caveman tore the pizza up.. The pizza itself being the main star here was amazing, the dough I believe was a sour dough; a lovely crisp authentic dough which had a nice little bite to it, The toppings and sauce were all quite clearly fresh and all in all probably one of the best pizzas I’ve had in the local area! Would I recommend? Most certainly and with the loyalty card and pizza making sessions I’ll definitely be back for more. My only disappointment is that I didn’t find this place sooner! Thanks a great all round experience!!

The food is amazing, I have been waiting for a legitimate pizza place in Haywards for 10 years. The staff are polite and lovely. I can't recommend more highly. Also... Biltong with a platter.. I'm in love

Oh my goodness what a delightful place this was. Staff were delightful, food was delightful, drinks were delightful, even the very reasonable price was delightful! I’ve included a photo of the entrance so you can see that there’s a tiny little step to get in but you could definitely get most wheelchairs over it. The food was absolutely delicious. I finally got round to trying burrata for the first time in my life and it was so good!!!!! They also have gluten free bases available as well as lots of vegan options and staff were sure to double check our dietary requirements. Oh! And they brought us tap water without even asking, it was lovely!

Cannot fault anything about this place. Pizza is fantastic and very reasonably priced. Plenty to choose from and a good selection of beer and wine. Went again today 21st June 2024. Still amazing pizza (easily the best I've had in the UK) and the price is very reasonable too!

It was my first time trying Safari Pizza. I had a couple of takeaway pizzas to eat at home. They were fresh and tasty, which is just what you want. The service was excellent and they were ready to collect within 15 mins of calling. I can't wait to eat in at the restaurant soon. Thank you very much!

I've been twice in the past week. Both times the staff were exceptional. So polite, friendly and nothing too much trouble. I was in big groups both times and was so impressed with the staff's attention to our table and making sure our orders were just right. The food was outstanding, my children were catered for fantastically and I look forward to my return visit! Thank you.

Great little pizza restaurant in Haywards Heath. The staff are so friendly and super helpful. The pizzas were superb, fresh, tasty, full of flavour and excellent value. The only downside is that it’s often hard to hear each other talk due to the loudness inside the restaurant. Mind you with the summer weather coming there is always seating outside.

The basic margarita half and half took 3 attempts to get right. A starter to one of the party did not arrive with the others while people in the kitchen saying it was a main ordered despite being on the special board as a starter When arrived the rest of the party had finished theirs but the late starter was not cooked in parts and bubbling in others asked if wanted another not really as other people's pizza were being prepared the pizza took 3 attempts and was by far not great but by now as the rest of the party had finished eating could not be bothered despite the rolling eyes of staff and whispering and looking over at the table there was no apology as such and nothing to compensate a ruined wasteful meal. Definitely would not return.

I can’t complain about the food or the service but our meal was ruined slightly by the fact we had only just finished eating our pizzas when the bill was brought over and we were told our table was needed but we were welcome to finish our drinks at the bar. We weren’t asked if we would like desserts or coffee and we had been given no prior warning that our meal would be time restricted. We had only been in there an hour and 20 minutes! I would at least expect it to be a time slot of 2 hours.

Best Pizzas around! Fresh and tasty food and a fantastic selection of wines and local beers. And the loveliest team .

We went for Saturday lunch. The pizzas are fairly priced and absolutely delicious. They have some slightly different flavours to the usual options and the bread base is very nice. The young staff were very attentive, overall a great experience.

First visit today, albeit brief as we had to dash. Managed to squeeze us in by the window as they were fully booked. There’s a reason for that! Staff were wonderful and helpful. Food was fabulous and well priced. Buzzy atmosphere and comfortable setting. Great to finally have a genuinely great place to eat in town. Will be back!

Booked a table for Easter Sunday, on website there is an option whereby you can select if for an occasion? - Which was for a Birthday. Not sure what this option does as nothing special or nice choice of table. On arrival the restaurant was empty and we were only given an option for a table of two right outside the kitchen area, not good as alot of noise and banging and people going in and out all the time! Then the restaurant started to fill up and a party of 8 arrived our table was right next to this table, so got extremely noisy at this time. I think the seating plan is terrible, why put tables for two right next to a table of 8? This really spoilt my Birthday treat as just wanted a nice quite table for two- no choice! Food was good and service OK, on finishing our main course plates were not collected for a while, could have been better. Overall ok, shan't be returning as if you want a nice quite meal for two, this isn't the place to go!

We are never disappointed by Safari Pizza Co. Whether we are eating in or taking away, the service is flawless (efficient, friendly, not in-your-face) and the quality of the products they use and the price they charge is unbeatable. We always try something new when we visit, and every time we seem to find a new favourite! They have definitely found the magic formula for perfect pizzas!

I went here with my partner for dinner on Valentine's Day and we really enjoyed it. We thought the pizza was amazing (even in comparison to pizzas I've had in Italy) and the dough sticks starter was great too, plus there were good vegetarian and vegan options available. The staff were friendly and didn't keep us waiting, and the atmosphere was warm and cozy. Pricing was reasonable, too. The only thing I could suggest is perhaps some fruity ciders and a few of the more 'classic' cocktails be added to the menu, such as Sex On The Beach, which I think would be popular, but this is just my opinion. I'll be coming back one-day!

First time and had a pleasant pizza. Not sure if it was the size or warmth of serving plates but the pizza had chilled by the time I got to the end. Great service and choice so I'll be back.

Me and my husband love safari pizza! The staff are lovely, it’s reasonably priced and the food is delicious!! We’ve been many times for lunch and dinner. Highly recommend.

Unfortunately, my pizza and dessert arrived lukewarm and messy. I felt the chorizo in the calzone tasted tough and the same goes for the dessert dough. Regarding the dessert, the portions seemed small and in inadequate packaging - 8 pieces of dough covered in caramel in cardboard packaging, normally for £8. There should be something between the cardboard and the caramel covered dough, maybe foil? Thankfully it was all half price today. I think I was unlucky with my order (the World Cup and the freezing weather may have contributed) plus perhaps this kind of food is best eaten at the restaurant. I haven't written them off as most of the reviews are positive. I will give them another go sometime in the future, perhaps this time dining in. EDIT 10/12/23 :- Dined in for the first time, and it was better this time around. I must confess I'm not a big fan of pizza but I really wanted to give this place a try dining in and support a local business. Presentation and service wise, it was top notch and everything tasted fresh. Unfortunately, it didn't change my opinion of pizza, but if you like pizza, then I would definitely give this place a go.

Third visit now to these epic pizza makers. So glad they have a premises now as we used to visit when they had the pizza truck. Now we can have delicious pizza whenever we fancy it. Big shout out to Matilda who gave us exceptional service and couldn’t do enough for us and made the whole experience next level. Was an absolute delight to be served by such a wonderful human. We will be back. 😄

This was our 3rd visit to Safari Pizza Restaurant in Haywards Heath. And oh wow - these people know pizza! My wife and I had such a delightful experience; the staff were friendly and the experience was relaxed. We had the September special with toppings of Korean BBQ Chicken, Sriracha Mayo, Kimchi Slaw and Coriander and Spring Onion - oh wow, this thing was mouth-wateringly good. Sooo delicious. We loved every bite. We also had the burrata bomb salad and the Kalahari pizza. Everything was delicious and delightful. Like I said, these people know pizza!! This was our third time to the restaurant, and probably the best yet. We loved it and will definitely be coming back. Thanks Safari Pizza! Edit nov23 - have been here 3 times in past Month. Chocolate Nutella pizza for desert is mind-blowing!

We hosted my son’s pizza making party at Safari Pizza. There were 17 kids aged between 7-8. Alex and team were the best. Nothing was too much and they did a fabulous job! The kids loved the pizza making party and they all loved the pizzas they made. Atmosphere was really good too. This is now our favourite place for pizzas. The prices are also very reasonable for a wood fired pizza. I’d highly recommend Safari Pizza. Their pizzas are really delicious and their customer service is top notch. Will visit again soon!

Heard good things, first time visiting Safari. Friendly greeting, casual comfy vibe. and décor. Menu has a few twists on the norm which made it fun. Service good throughout and food was fab. Chorizo and stuffed peppers for starters, various pizzas for mains and they were happy to swap toppings. My boys agreed on two different pizzas so that they could swap half way through. Going back!

Awesome Afrikan-style restaurant! The vibe is so unique, great attention to details, design 🥰 . And the pizza was seriously amazing - it was cooked in a wood-fired oven and had the perfect crispy crust with fresh toppings. But honestly, what really made the experience was the staff. They were so friendly and helpful, and they knew the menu inside and out so they could recommend the best dishes. Would definitely recommend this place if you're looking for something different and delicious! 🍕 🍷 🎉

The food was really high-quality, everything we ate was so tasty and felt like a real quality meal, we feel a lot of places we go to serve pizza tend to just have decent, but not outstanding pizzas. But here it really felt like you were getting something of quality The staff were really friendly and professional. the person that served us was having a laugh with the customers and it just made the whole atmosphere a really enjoyable place to be. Coming here was a great idea for date night and my wife and I will definitely be returning and eating here again. Definite 10 out of 10.

Best pizzas is Sussex. They are so delicious, I thinks it's the only pizzas where I actually enjoy eating the crust. Next time I crave a pizza I will definitely come back to Safari, I won't bother going anywhere else anymore, I've found my favourite pizza place.

We hired half the restaurant as a large group the night before our wedding and it was the perfect evening. Becky hosted our group and managed to ensure quick service and payment for everyone. The food was fab and service attentive for drink top ups. Definitely the best place in the area for pizza and a good time.

Haven been this lovely place twice. The 1st time was with my footy mates and we enjoyed the amazing food and crafted beer. Popped in earlier today to order some takeaway. Both the young gentleman and the lady are very polite and friendly. Will definitely return for your delicious food and drink！

From entering the restaurant till leaving the service was truly excellent, the best we've had from any restaurant for a long time! The large selection of local Sussex wines was appreciated and we enjoyed the drinks tasting menu. Our freshly made, pizzas with a south African twist, like added biltong, were unique and tasty. An enjoyable dinning experience, with great staff. We'd highly recommend it.

Delicious pizzas freshly made with a good selection of toppings that are flavoursome unlike the "chain restaurants". Friendly and quick service on a Saturday lunchtime. Decor is nice and cosy. Gluten free pizzas available and the bonus is dogs are allowed inside the restaurant. Will return to Safari Pizza next time we're back at Haywards Heath.

Wow! Best pizza in town by far. Reminds me of the fabulous pizzas I’ve had when I went to Sorrento. Stone baked, fresh ingredients, very tasty and one of the best I’ve had for a long time. Highly recommend. Can’t thank Tim, one of the waiters enough for looking after us.

Amazing service, food, and atmosphere! Although it’s situated right outside the Main Street it’s such a cozy spot to dine! We had Finn serve us, and he was so attentive with his service, my family was very impressed with him! Thoroughly encourage dining here!

We love this place. Our little one loves their children’s Margherita pizza. Devours it. The pepperoni with jalapeños slaps!! And slaps in a good way!! The dough is light and tasty. The undercarriage just has the right amount of char. It’s not quite Neapolitan. It’s their own style. All reasonably priced. Front of house have been lovely each time we’ve visited. It’s a million miles from the usual mainstream rubbish served up by Dominos Papa Johns Pizza Express etc. We are so happy this pizzeria exists in Haywards Heath.

Simply the best place to eat in Sussex. Not just wood-fired pizzas but also freshly made salads, tasty bar snacks and puddings to die for. Also they have a brilliant wine list and cocktail menu.

My favorite Sussex pizza place, Safari Pizza isn’t just about the creative and delicious pizza pies, it also has a terrific beer selection, crafted cocktails, and excellent wines. That all said, the staff are what makes Safari such a solid option for a date night, a friend’s gathering, a reunion with family, or just pizza with the kids. A really great place.

Seeming i work on the broadway I’ve been desperate to go here and try this place, having bought their pizzas from the frozen section at a local garden centre. Well what can I say? they are amazing so tasty! The staff and ambiance are incredible!...

Get the honey badger, you won’t regret it! The biltong is also fantastic - tastes just like the stuff you get in South Africa!
