We called into this pub when passing during a day out in Chester. We both ordered tuna mayo sandwiches and drinks, the food arrived quickly but mine was served on stale bread and there was that much vingarette in the sandwich it was difficult to taste the tuna. When the barmaid collected the plates and I said the bread was stale she just said ‘sorry about that’ but no offer was made to rectify or refund me. All in all, it’s a place we won’t be returning to.

I must admit as ‘non rockers’ , I was a bit nervous as to what sort of hotel I had booked into.. we wanted a family friendly, down to earth, traditional pub… and the saddler did not disappoint! The staff are absolutely lovely, and can’t do enough for you, the bar food is fab, along with a great breakfast. Yes, it’s ‘rock’ themed however we loved the ‘down to earth’ feel, and unpretentious atmosphere!!central to everything too We will definitely be back…

The staff are warm and friendly, no attitude. The manager Claire was lovely and kind. Wow..Where to start. We stayed at the Saddle for 2 nights on a Friday and Saturday night. There were 4 of us and we had the pleasure of staying in Room 2 which was the Jimi Hendrix Room. More of that Later.... Upon arrival at 2pm we were greeted by the Fantastic Will and the Landlady Rebecca. As soon as we arrived I could tell that this was going to be a fantastic stay..The reception we received was extra special. The wonderful Will saw to it that we knew all the ins and outs of the Pub. We were offered breakfast at £10 for the following morning. An offer which we took up..And was so glad that we did. We were the n shown to our room. The room was clean tidy and very spacious for 4 people. The beds were so very comfortable and the Jimi Hendrix theme was amazing !! The staff at The Saddle were unbelievably helpful and I know it's a cliché but literally absolutely nothing was too much trouble and each and everyone of them were courteous and served with a smile on their face and were very engaging. I went down to the bar area at just turned 1.am and asked if I could get a glass of Iced water to take to my room . It was given to me with a smile and a friendly conversation...And that was at 1.am !!! During the day and night we were served by Wonderful Staff who were ever so polite and made sure we were well looked after. Some name dropping here but it's so well deserved..So a massive thank you to Will..Hannah..Claire... Rebecca..Leigh the Landlord and all the other Staff who were amazing xx The breakfast was absolutely superb and there was plenty of it. I don't know where the Chef came from but he/she deserves a special mention..Bravo Sir or Madam !! The bar has a Licence until 2.am and you can still get food from 9.pm until 1.am..I opted for the Cheeseburger which was absolutely stunning at only £5. There are other options though. Now for the Entertainment..Friday night was Karaoke night . The atmosphere was Superb and we had a thoroughly enjoyable night. Saturday was a band night and although they were a little too heavy for my liking the pub was full and you couldn't fault the way the night went down. In conclusion..Would I stay here again ? Absolutely 100 per cent !! I'm going to take my Wife for a weekend in December. So to all at the Saddle Inn I would like to say Thank You..Thank You..Thank You. We had the most amazing stay with you guys and can't wait to see you all again xxx Take a bow everyone at the Saddle..You deserve each and every accolade you receive.. Absolutely Amazing !!!!

. . The problems were that the bathroom shower was very moldy and the pub part was not a neighborhood sort of place where we could hang out with our family for a drink or a meal. I've not been in here for a long time and what a shame. It was called The Chester Bells the last time I was here, but it's changed for the better! Lovely interior with comfy seating and great choice of beer. What topped it off was the rock music theme that's characterized with memorabilia on the walls and music through the jukebox (not loud or intrusive). I won't be leaving it too long before calling in again.

Mix of good and bad. Suggested here to our friends but they were reluctant because they'd heard about a brawl at the venue a few weeks back. Persuaded them that it had probably been the races crowd and we'd be ok as there were no races. First thing we heard was talk about a kick off that had just happened. Friends were on edge straight away and wanted to leave. Persuaded them to stay as we'd just shelled out 8 quid plus on a pint and a short plus mixer. Came to watch the band but the pub layout makes it difficult to see them. The band are at one end of the place and where you stand to watch is the narrowest part of the pub, with the bar to one side, and two massive tables taking up floor space. Constantly having to move so people could get to the bar, out to the smoking bit or to the loos. Lots of people stood at the bar were watching the band and wouldnt move to let people get served. Frustrating.

7 of us went to Chester races last Friday and just to liven us up we called in for a few drinks here. Glad we did as the reception from all the staff we saw was excellent. We decided to have a meal before the 1st race and again the service was superb and the food ideal. After 7 races at Chester we chose to go back to The Saddle Inn and luckily the same table was available to us. We drank and ate in a super atmosphere and decided to eat again before travelling home (1.5 hrs) by mini-bus.

Me and my partner had arrange for a engagement party for April time, it was stated that 60 people were required in order for them to close the pub and make it a private event. We agreed and paid for 3 rooms for family to stay and paid a deposit for a buffet for 70 people. I had said We wouldn't mind regulars coming in for there usual drink etc. However it seems that new people had come in and taken over the place. They decided that they wanted to put a band on every Saturday, I had clearly stated I did not want a band as that is not the atmosphere we were going for, this was agreed in black and white, they said they would open the pub even though I had confirmed 115 guests. They tried to compromise with only putting the band on for an hour instead of hour and half, why would I agree to this when it had already been confirmed the pub would be exclusive to our party, this to me is pure greed and bad customer service. They have agreed to refund me for the money I had paid (thankfully and rightly so) the stress of this has caused me sleepless nights wondering how I'm meant to get my 115 guest elsewhere and find somewhere else within a short time, I had already sent out invites that costs me a small amount. Overall I am really annoyed by how I have been treated. The way they have handled it is appalling. Their attitude towards their customers needs to have a serious rethink if they expect to be around much longer. It's just a shame that the manager Tim who dealt with us originally is leaving as his customer service was second to none. AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE.

Just returned home from a weekend visit to Chester, having stayed at the Saddle Inn on Saturday night. It really is a brilliant place to stay - lovely rooms, bar serving good food and very friendly, helpful staff. Breakfast is excellent too. It was only a 5 minute walk or less to the shopping centre, Christmas Market and a great choice of many pubs, bars and restaurants. Being that few minutes outside of the main shopping centre meant it was that bit more peaceful as everywhere was packed to the rafters. After a spot of shopping I returned to the Saddle for a nice lunch before checking into my room. The room was very clean and comfortable and had everything you need - tea and coffee making facilities, TV, en suite etc, Excellent accommodation and great staff - can't find any fault with it at all - highly recommended I'm certainly looking forward to returning.

We were walking to the racecourse in a round about way to have a look at the beautiful Roodee on a none race day when we decided to drop into here for a quick drink. The last time I went this pub it was called The Chester Bells Pub and not only has it changed its name but has improved no end.A lovely inviting pub with a light and airy interior with nice furnishings and great decor and plenty of seating options plus they have a covered courtyard which is perfect for when the weather is nice. We were here on a Thursday afternoon and the pub was starting to get busy, after a quick study of the real ale's on offer my twin brother Stephen opted for a real ale while I went for a Strongbow cloudy apple cider and these were served in tip top condition and we took our drinks into the pleasant courtyard were we enjoyed our drinks on a beautiful roasting hot September afternoon. My cider was delicious and my twin really enjoyed his real ale and we had a very pleasant time in here before we moved on the racecourse. The Saddle Inn is really easy to locate on Grosvener Street in an area with some great pub's and restaurants. Opening hours are;Sunday to Thursday,11am till 11pm.Friday,11am till 1am. Saturday,11am till 2am.a superb pub and well worth checking out.

The Saddle Inn is another classic inn that offers an excellent food and drinks menu and also accommodation. The Saddle Inn is only a minute or so away from Chester racecourse and many of the sights around historic Chester. This inn i think was once called the Blue Bell pub but reverted to its original name (The Saddle Inn) earlier this year and has had a very tasteful makeover since my last visit.A multi-roomed inn with an excellent beergarden'the interior in here is excellent with a traditional look and feel and many interesting fixtures and features relating to Chester. There are great seating options inside and outside and it is an inn that is well worth visiting when in Chester. We went here mid-afternoon on a roasting hot day for a few beers. When here we sat in the beergarden and ordered a few pints of Caledonian brewery Deauchers cask ale which were excellent and price wise on par with other inns and pubs we went to when in Chester. The Saddle Inn is superb and is well worth a visit when visiting Chester as the beers were excellent and the staff are very friendly.Located on Grosvenor street.Opening hours are. So this pub likes to boast that its "family-friendly". But there's a downside to that - as our experience proved. One Saturday afternoon a friend and I stopped in there for a drink and a game of pool. There were two children on the pool table, boys around 10 or 11 years of old. Their mother had left them there and was drinking in the back. We left the boys to it and when we returned 15 minutes later they were still playing, so we put our money on the table and waited for them to finish. We noted that there was a sign saying a £10 deposit was required for the pool cues so, presuming they must have paid that, we offered to give them £10 for their cues when they had finished their game. The older one then piped up that it was "winner stays on". Okaaay... So, eventually, my friend played him - and beat him. All the time we were nice to the kids even though they were stroppy and mopey. So it was time for us to have our game, but the kid accused us of kicking off the table and went to tell his mum. We couldn't have been more civil with them. She tore in like a screaming banshee and started having a go at us for being nasty to her kids, which we hadn't been. The kids started talking about their "rights", in between bursting into tears. To make matters worse, two Mancunian do-gooders had now entered to keep saying "They're only kids... they're only kids" to us. Intermittently the woman screamed at us, the kids moaned, and the Mancs preached. Oh and the little barman popped in to see what was going on. My, it was such a joyful experience!Anyway, to sum up: we got unlucky - this appalling woman has brought up appalling, needy, righteous kids in her own image, and we had the misfortune to run into them. But the pub's policy of letting children in the pub (until 9pm) is a disastrous one, because things like this can happen. Kids are not conversant with pub etiquette or pool etiquette, and their presence can lead to problems, especially if they have a neglectful or dysfunctional parent. There's no way I'd ever return to this pub, and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone else either. In fact, the whole unpleasant incident has put me off Chester for life. It's funny how one bad incident can do that.

Some reservations when we first walked in and found the pub empty. Andy, the barman seemed very happy to see us. "Oh good, someone to serve and look after" I suspect were his thoughts. That's exactly what he did to best of his ability. We were not disappointed! Lovely food at very good value pricing. Check out our empty plates. Considering that we've lived in Chester for 16 years and never before frequented The Saddle Inn, I can safely say that we'll be back.

Me and my girlfriend spent a night here for her birthday. Our room was nice (number 9) and the bed was comfy. The only issue with the room was the wobbly tap in the bathroom. We had lunch before checking in and the sandwiches are nice, we both had the BBQ chicken, cheese melt. The breakfast was really good and at £3 extra pp, is well worth it. We had a good night sleep but the nose from number 8 (2 girls) was ridiculous (especially at 4:30 in the morning when they came in drunk and put their TV back on, with the volume loud, there should be a curfew of midnight or something for to get back in) and the rooms aren't very well sound proofed at all. All in all it was a good stay and would defo book again and recommend to others.

Seemed understaffed throughout our visit, not sure what was going on, but our waiter Matt handled every table with ease and made our experience not just enjoyable but unforgettable. Had a good laugh and everything was clean. Food was also delicious - pizza was huge (and very reasonably priced), sea bass cooked well too. Our only regret was that we were too full for desserts. Can’t wait to return - but we do hope they sort out the staffing issue to take the pressure off!

Got to say that this is the first time we've been in the Penny Black for several years and so we decided to call in for breakfast. Table spotless, service at bar excellent, delivery of food excellent. Breakfast consisted of bacon, sausage, hash browns, egg, beans and toast. Everything was very well cooked and tasty, the egg also had a lovely soft yolk. Also added black pudding which again was perfectly cooked. Unlimited freshly ground choice of coffee's topped off a most enjoyable breakfast.

Travelled for business to Chester. I was highly welcomed up in arrival. The restaurant wasn't open, however, but the host highly recommended the Thai restaurant a few metres away from the hotel and it did not disappoint! They even accommodated when I brought my food back to the hotel and gave me cutlery so that I had my takeaway meal in the restaurant area, rather than taking it to my room (which was allowed, but meant my room wouldn't smell of Thai all evening!). Wifi was also available for free using their password. Kudos to the host - seemed he was the only person working from evening until morning, as I didn't see any other staff. Hotel and bar and restaurant are separate, which means it quiet on an evening. You need to go through the Secret Garden to the hotel.
