The Rye in Southwark

I come to visit this place because I heard from friends they had a great Sunday roasts and the were not lying I was amazed with the service from Hanifa she took good care of us. Definitely coming back

A friend told me to go to this pub angel oak in peckham cause it's was really nice to have a drink eat and watch football and since I love doing all of this I went there and I have to say was an amazing experience food lovely great beers and this bartender called Hanifa serve us and she was too thanks for the experience definitely coming back 🥰

This pub looks great; it’s popular, in a good location and has a good range of drinks but the food is poor. We went for Sunday lunch today. We started with cauliflower soup and whitebait. Both were poor. The soup was a weird colour and I don’t believe it had any cauliflower in it. The fish were too big to be whitebait and not properly cooked. Then we had the roasts which were overcooked and lukewarm. We won’t be going there to eat again.

We came as a group on a pub walk. We came early afternoon so had no problems getting a table but noticed all tables were reserved for later. They have a good selection of real ales and I chose a German beer. We had our drinks and listened to some interesting 1970/80s music. The staff were very friendly.

Well the pub is self is a lovely clean place and well put together. This is the first time I have had the food and it will be the last. It is not cheap We had starters to share version Ragu fritters v good burrata good. The squid looked weird did not try. The others mopped it up. We should have stopped there as this is were it all went wrong with the mains. It is bad. Thai cauliflower curry so tasteless and so unspectacular. Not spicy at all. In fact nearer to dish water. The roasted corn was quite nice, Cailiflower main ingredient was soggy. No prawns at start of service……….had chicken. Three slices of cold sliced breast dry and tasteless. Probably from a packet. I asked for fresh chilli and was given something so insipid. Roast cod and parsley sauce packet again tasteless and watery Shep pie floating in gravy v hard potato also fairly tasteless. Vegan burger was said to be just ok. Skinny skin on fries were over salted and bald of skin. So there we are I don’t know if the real staff were off! It is such a shame. So a great pub with a poor kitchen. I a trained chef.

Love this pub!! They do a 10/10 vegetarian roast on a Sunday. Good for birthdays. Nice big beer garden. Lovely jubblies.

A pub, owned by a major brewer, 4 hand pumps……with not a single ale on offer. Bad planning? Lazy cellar management? We’d (ok only 5 of us but..) planned an evening of eating and drinking (‘cause the burgers sounded great). Ended up not far away at a pub doing pizzas,had a great night, 5 ales on offer and exited with a a bill for close to £250. Your loss guys. You only get one chance to make a first impression - you blew it

We were visiting family in south London and they booked us a table for Sunday lunch, I couldn't understand why we drove thirty five minutes to this pub. Now I know, the atmosphere hit us as soon as we entered and I knew we were in a traditional pub. The service was good too. My roast beef dinner was much better than I expected, the presentation different too. I have never had to deconstruct my roast dinner before. I would gladly make the journey here again on future visits.

Excellent pub, great beer selection, friendly staff, big screen for footy and sports, fantastic quiz on Wednesdays, oh and food looks great…can’t do much better! One of the best pubs in Peckham hands down.

Had an amazing afternoon with my family and had a pork roast which was so yummy! The staff were all so friendly and attentive and i will 100% come back! The pub was very busy but the food came out super fast which was great! Pablo was also exremely welcoming when we arrived :) 10/10

On arrival for lunch we were told that the kitchen was closed due to a large group ahead of us. Expected to open in 30 minutes but was over 45 before we could order. When my food arrived it was very disappointing - the Caesar salad had nearly a whole bottle of thick dressing covering it (wish I had asked for dressing on the side). I should have sent it back but by that time I was so hungry I tried to eat it, although could not finish it. My husband likes it there as they have good gluten free beer on tap… will not be rushing back

Slaaaaay!!! It serves the best hun drinks and food, totally instagramable love it with my gals, garden is gorgeous, bar is gorg staff are lovely and fun Will recommend for parties etc Thanks!

Thought I'd pop in to the old Rye with a couple mates because we had heard it had underone a renovation. The place looks great the beer selection is amazing. What stood out to me was the service from all the staff especially Holly she's was great and helped us to enjoy the evening that little bit more. Highly recommend.

I live local to this pub and come here with mates every few weeks. Great beers, brilliant pub garden and it’s a lovely vibe. Except for this one barman. The last 3-4 times we’ve been at best he’s rude, at worst…well. He rolls his eyes at customers, walks around with a face like a smacked backside and I just have no idea why he works there. I don’t wish anyone to be sacked but it would be an amazing place if he wasn’t there. Hopefully he either grows up and realises the industry he’s in, or moves on to pursue things that make him happier. He makes you feel rude by asking him a question. Last night my friend innocently asked if they had a spare phone charger behind the bar. That got an eye roll too. Venue amazing so hopefully some staff changes will make it shine like it should!

Sadly, we had very poor service (with attitude). The food was nice enough, but definitely at the top end price wise, and the overblown menu descriptions didn't seem to translate to anything much. It's a shame, as it's such a nice spot, really.

Lovely garden and a great spot for a drink especially if it is raining as they have a great cover. The food was really disappointing. I had the curry which was really salty and not at all tasty. The others had roasts that were equally salty and also dry. The price did not reflect the food at all.

Nice beer garden but sadly I had lots of issues when trying to order a gluten free meal; they were not sure of the ingredients contained within their dishes and I eventually received my meal almost two hours after I arrived. Nice staff but I felt really disappointed by the experience overall.

Went to meet up with a friend for post lockdown catch up and she suggested this pub. I have never been and oh boy what a find! Pub is so gorgeous inside and outside. Beer garden is just beautiful (they had it refurbished during lockdown). Every single member of staff (I asked for fee names Kasia, Kasper, Damien, Elizabeth...) exceptionally friendly and attentive but not too much. We had sausage roll (how I missed those!), burgers (tasty!!!) and skin on fries (the best!) Manager came to say hello and asked is all going well, clearly looking after his guests. Honestly had such a great time that can’t wait to be back! Thank you guys!

I used to love this pub, the food and service used to be great! Sadly no more. Guys, I know that the Covid restrictions make things a little more difficult, however when I visited your venue the other night the staff just seemed fed up, they didn't know what was off the menu, the food was thrown together - slapdash and overcooked are probably the kindest words I can think of... food turned up before the cutlery, mains turned up when the plates from our starters were still on the table... my flatmate and I were quizzed on whether or not we were part of the same household (understandable) however thr super rowdy table of 6 people next to us (inside i must add) were most certainly not! Asked to order desert only to be told thr kitchen was closed.... err... thanks for telling us guys. Such a shame - loved this place but its like they don't even care anymore. Won't be back.

We Went to this pub to have a couple of mid afternoon pints; second pint was clearly off with a that cheesy acid smell, which can happen, but would be better if the manager recognized it rather than saying "this is how it tastes"; he then had no choice but to replace it with another one, although you could tell he was not happy about it.The worse came when the bill was presented with 12.5% service charge on it, for two pints and two halves... since they now have to do table serviceNow, we all know that we are going through tough unprecedented times and local businesses needs support, both my wife and I work in hospitality and try to play our part by drinking a beer in the pub rather than having it at home... but tough times doesn't mean you have the right to rip off your customers.

Fui a The Rye para celebrar mi cumpleaños con amigos. El personal era muy acogedor, cálido pub / restaurante y también admite perros.Hemos pasado casi todo el día al aire libre en la enorme taberna al aire libre disfrutando de uno de los días soleados. ¡La comida era excelente y las bebidas simplemente perfectas! ¡Tuvimos un día tan lindo y hasta pusieron una vela en mi postre!Leyendas Xx

Have been to the pub many times and had no problems.However the bar staff today (Sat afternoon 4th Jan) were not great. Took a flat processo back , they joked they would have to open a fresh bottle & then only half filled the new glass because my wife had drunk some of the flat processo (that's how she knew it was flat) .I also asked for a dog bowl 3 times , it never turned up. I got the impression they were taking the Mickey.I am not from the area perhaps that was the problem ?

Fui al Rye el día de Año Nuevo, nos tomó 20 minutos ser atendidos. La mayoría de la comida en el menú no estaba disponible, la comida tardó 30 minutos en llegar y estaba sosa y fría. El menú no era barato, 16 para un principal y en general no lo recomendaría.

Bonito pub grande con espacio decente en el restaurante. Al final nos dieron una cabina como reservas en el restaurante. Después de haber visto el pollo en otras mesas, optamos por él y no nos decepcionó. Las porciones no solo eran enormes, sino que también el pollo estaba asado a la perfección y se presentaba maravillosamente. ¡Extremadamente satisfecho!

We visited here with family for lunch. The choice of food was good with two or our party having the meals from the specials board. I had the fish and chips. The food was reasonable , however I felt the batter was too thick. My one complaint was the glasses, both water and beer glasses. Mine was so thick with grime my napkin was brown after scraping the caked on grime off the top of the glass so I could drink from it. You may ask why I didn’t change the glass ? Well all the others looked similar. I would suggest they invest in a new dish washer.

Must have a new chef in as the food is 100% better than last year. Visited for a work lunch and was really impressed. Staff were lovely and the beer garden is ace - as it's always been. Will be taking the family back here for a long lazy Sunday afternoon this summer. So happy this place has got sorted again. Banging!

El personal fue muy amable.Cangrejo en tostadas entrantes estaban bien - cangrejo era bastante agradable pero una pequeña cantidad. Mi lubina estaba perfectamente preparada, pero la salsa era realmente desagradable, mal sazonada con pequeños trozos masticables de calamares y almejas que no tenían sabor. El brócoli no tenía sabor y no había sido salado. El linguini de mariscos de mi hija no tenía sabor a comida y un ligero sabor a producto de limpieza. Fue realmente asqueroso. Debería habérselo dicho, pero no estaba de humor y solo pagué un enorme 64 (incluida una botella de sidra) y me fui.

Me acabo de mudar a la zona y estaba tratando de encontrar un buen lugar para un domingo asado. En general: ambiente increíble, excelente personal que siempre lo está pasando bien, deliciosa comida a un precio razonable, deliciosas bebidas y una mesa de ping pong. Quiero decir. . . ¿Qué más se puede pedir de la vida?

Visitamos para el almuerzo. El hombre del bar era amable y servicial, y explicaba las diferentes zonas de asientos para la comida de la cocina o la barbacoa. Comí sándwiches de pescado, deliciosos goujons de pescado con lechuga y mayonesa. Mi esposo comió sándwich club de pollo lleno de aguacate y mayonesa de pollo. Precios buenos y buen ambiente. Solo inconveniente la falta de plazas de aparcamiento.

Went mid-week with friends for a beer in the garden but ended up staying for supper. Although the place was packed, the food and service was really good. Everyone having a great time with a quiz. Can only get better once the garden relandscaping is completed.

Ate Sunday roast here at 6pm. We’ve been here many times before and whilst they’ve had occasional catering issues, it’s normally been that they’ve run out of x, y or z which is to be expected for Sunday roasts especially when coming late.

Popped into this pub on Easter Sunday. Wide drinks selection and relatively quick service. Plenty of space to sit both inside and outside. Didn’t eat but the food menu looked good.

Four of us ate lunch:- 1 meat eater, 2 vegetarians and 1 vegan. We all enjoyed our meals and the staff were efficient but not too attentive. We'd booked a table and were at the rear of the pub overlooking the garden area. The space between the tables was good and we didn't feel squashed. Our table was overlooking the kitchen so we got to see the food being prepared and were impressed with the level of care taken to create each meal. It's one to revisit!

The pub it’s self is beautiful!!! I didn’t have a lot to eat but the food was amazing aswell as the staff thank you for taking care of us 😊

Can’t rate the service any higher, second to none food, great drinks option. Had a lovely server called Madga, couldn’t have asked for a kind natured and humorous waitress! Would definitely recommend.

Busy Pub on a Saturday afternoon for lunch.Sky Sports on the big screen and a very busy Kitchen.. all the food that came out looked great and good service... Families (with small children) are made very welcome.

Visited here just for drinks. Lovely atmosphere and very friendly staff. Loved the decor very shabby chic plus a great garden area, would highly recommend and will visit again to sample the food that sounded great on the menu. Also had the best Bloody Mary so have ever had!

Reservado para una mesa de 6 para el cumpleaños de un amigo y sentado en el conservatorio. Ocupado pero no agitado. Encontré el menú del domingo balanceado con un asado de verduras. La pastinaca es muy sabrosa y las raciones son muy buenas. El personal fue servicial al sugerir diluir el jugo de nuestros pequeños y recomendó el Tempranillo para nuestra comida. Realmente impresionado con sus vinos y no demasiado caro. En general golpeó el lugar!

Sigue siendo uno de los mejores asados del domingo en el barrio.

Went to the Rye last Sunday for a roast dinner (get the chicken!) and the bar and waiting staff were so accommodating. We booked a table near the fireplace, which gives the whole venue a real Christmas vibe. Will definitely be back here again soon

Le he dado a The Rye cuatro estrellas ya que la comida era realmente buena y el personal excelente, especialmente porque la zona estaba completamente reservada con un grupo grande. ¡Fueron pacientes, amables, profesionales y la factura llegó rápidamente! Came here last weekend with my partner. I had the veggie haggis which was delicious and he had the chicken which he told me was also good. The roasts were huge, definitely no need for a side of mac and cheese but everything was tasty and the staff boxed up the leftovers for me to take home. Friendly and quick service.

What a disappointment! weve come on an adventure to Peckham as we heard great pubs and rooftop bar and up this visit it lived up to its current reputation. We chose this one over some of the other fantastic sounding ones because it’s a nice evening and they advertise table tennis in the garden. Lovely big garden and there was the table tennis table but in asking for the bar and balls after rummaging around said sorry no balls you’ll have to go and find some. REALLY!! Couldn’t find any they seemed to think it was a joke. Not good enough. So disappointed has one drink and left. We’d have played some games and then spent £80 off on food and wine. Think how many table tennis balls you could have bought with the profit and not disappoint people in future!

A nice, friendly bar close to the park with a huge beer garden. We all ate and the food was lovely. Nice selection of Ale and Wine.

We often visit the Rye for a quick burger or a Sunday roast, the food is excellent and the atmosphere great. If you're not too fond of screaming kids that is, but the quality of the food makes up for it. Do stop by!

My partner and I celebrated our Civil Partnership here in July and honestly we couldn’t have hoped for a better and more accommodating venue.

Had a great family meal here in the amazing beer garden. 2 vegans in our party were well catered for (beetroot and chickpea burgers) and the sweet potato fries were great. Thanks to our waiter Harry for a pleasant evening meal in the sunshine.

Having watch many fantastic Rugby/Football games here over the past few years I am extremely sad how done hill its gone. Many people reserve table (myself included) turn up to find not enough seats for the amount of people they've booked for, over growing around the bar area, meaning peoples view of the screens are being blocked. Late to turn the back round music off meaning you miss the national anthems. The staff behind the bar are also become extremely slow at serving and more interested in singing too each other than pouring drinks, which the beer has had to be returns a number of times for being flat. This is all a real shame as we love the pub but something has changed over the last year.

Stopping off for tipple in the Rye I was greeted by friendly Happy to help staff. The young tallish blonde lady had an excellent knowledge of the Ales and food on offer and the garden is looking lovely! Would recommend!

Always super busy on a sunny day but worth it for me as good for my son. They have well priced kids menu, high chairs and changing facilities. However does get a bit over-run with children so if I wasn’t with my little boy might go somewhere with ferocious outdoor smoking for an adult vibe! Service can get a bit nuts when it is busy but the staff are really friendly and accommodating.
