The Lordship Pub in Southwark

After coming to this pub for a few years and already knowing what to expect in terms of food and service, we ended up tying the knot there on Saturday. The food was as expected, fantastic. The service was impeccable. We are so happy we got to share such a special day there and would fully recommend it to anyone looking to hire it. Or, just to pop in for some grub! We can't wait to be back there again as soon as possible.

Gentleman with the dark hair/man-bun working late afternoon Saturday had terrible manners and service, really inconsiderate towards us and definitely would not want him serving my family or friends if I hosted an event here unfortunately…

Great food and a very different menu to most gastro pubs. Good service. Great atmosphere. We'll be back.

We had our wedding reception at The Lordship and my husband and I are SO glad we did! Wed recommend anyone having a south east London wedding (or even just London) to have their reception here. Food was 10/10 (we’re still getting guests bang on about potatoes), staff were incredible and just from start to finish it was perfect! We’re so lucky that we’re local so we can come back again and again.

I've been here many times and I've also hosted a couple of work drinks here too. They are always incredibly helpful and this time round we ordered a few snacks for the table. They were phenomenal! Excellent pub!

Whilst the service was lovely, and the atmosphere similar. Unfortunately the Sunday roast was extremely over priced for the mediocre meal that I got. £23 for roast potatoes that seemed like they had only looked at oil for 5 seconds and served like new potatoes in their soggy lack luster state. The beef had a whole line of fat running through it (the table next to us remarked at the exact same issue), the gravy seemed more like salty water and the veg was uncreative probably just boiled and popped in the plate. If you’ve been fantasising about a delicious Sunday roast to finish your week, unfortunately this isn’t it.

Looks picture perfect roast. Unfortunately gave nothing in flavour, would rather have taken the money and made my own at home and enough for 4 people. Over priced, disappointing, staff were lovely though. Maybe grab a pint here… maybe?

Great value wines and a good selection. Sunday roast beef great value too; deliciously rare, generous slices. Friendly and prompt service. And they keep serving the roast well into Sunday evening. Terrific! Only criticism is the horseradish sauce is not remotely hot enough. Should have the same impact as English mustard!

Went for Sunday lunch with my mum. She had the crab which she was happy with and I had the vegetarian option (butternut squash pie) which I was less happy with. It was tasteless, the carrots were undercooked, the horseradish sauce appeared to have come from a catering pack, the roast potatoes had been kept heated and were almost impossible to cut and the Yorkshire pudding was the oddest I’ve ever had - dense and like a loaf of bread. The prices were reasonable so don’t feel so aggrieved but I won’t be back. The environment was lovely so it’s a shame I won’t want to eat there again.

Not sure if the food or drink is of any quality because the phone manner is deplorable, with someone who has a team working in London these past few weeks, I called to see if they had a payment link to pre-pay for food, accidentally called the following week as our preference was Dulwich and was met with the most abrupt tone, in fact he was just rude and finished the call with 'I told you we don't do this last week, maybe don't call again' ZERO stars.

The most underrated place in the area. Excellent food, drinks, and the staff are the friendliest people.

I've been here twice and I think it may be the best pub food I've ever had. The venison pie was amazing (hope they bring this back for the winter menu) and the roast beef was so tender. I need to go back and try the new chicken and chorizo pie.

Seems cool, Would really love to try this place on weekend but it’s impossible for locals to come for a pint on Saturdays as always seem to be closed for weddings 😅😅 remember the locals people!! 💰

Attended a wedding here in July and the venue, ambience, atmosphere and especially food was OUTSTANDING. A particular shoutout to the amazing Alex who provided this pregnant lady with bespoke mocktails, pre-empted appropriate drinks for the toasts and sourced a fan on a 32oC day. No words for how fantastic he was, please give him a raise!

I've come here for Sunday lunch a couple of times and it has not disappointed. Very robust menu with something for everyone, paired with some good wines options. Family and dog friendly

Incredible Sunday roast and outstanding service!

Attended a wedding here in the evening and it was nice. Big bar, had space and great selection of drinks.

Very nice place for lunch with well prepared, fresh meals that are flavourful and well served. Staff are friendly and polite. There is a good range of beers on tap and it can get busy. There are not too many standing areas inside but plenty of tables to sit at.

Birthday lunch today. Foodie wonderfulness. All cooked fresh to order, so so tasty. Thank you for a lovely meal!

Pub/restaurant located top end of Lordship Lane. Lots of street parking. Advisable to book at weekends. Simple old style pub decor. No nonsense, efficient and friendly service. Good British menu of classic dishes. Jersey oysters were super fresh and delicious as was hot served scotch eggs. Dressed crab also super fresh and delicious , along with perfectly cooked beef roastie dinner. Great and reasonably priced wine list and dessert menu. British cheese plate very good. Highly recommended local restaurant serving great quality British dishes.

Nice neighbourhood gastro pub, with a spacious and airy dining room and a relaxed atmosphere. The food is nice but maybe a bit hit-and-miss, service is friendly though a bit amateurish, and prices are average.

This is my favourite go-to local.. always a buzzy and warm atmosphere. Great food (try the homemade pie/s!), excellent wine list and beers on tap. We went for Sunday lunch and it was outstanding - and thankfully NOT spoiled by screaming kids (unlike the experience of the previous weekend, at a venue that shall remain nameless). Best pub in the area by far.

I love the Lordship! Have been going for years and it is our family favourite. Andrew and the team have really made it a proper ‘go to’ local - delicious pub grub and great wine list. It’s tough in the current climate and they continue to do an exemplary job - best pub in London in my opinion. Could not recommend it more highly :)

Fabulous pub! We've been to the Lordship many times in the evenings and at weekends. The staff and Landlord are always welcoming and the food is great, always piping hot and tasty! They do a delicious Sunday roast too. Would highly recommend a visit!

Awesome Sunday roast yesterday. You couldn’t tell it was late in the service; meat and veg were all fresh, piping hot, and completely delicious. Best in the area….?

Very disappointed with the owner of this pub who cancelled our reservation the day before today as we had 3 adults and 5 children on the booking (one of which is 8 and has an adult meal and one baby). Apparently their policy is adults have to out number children. So if you are a single parent with two kids, or a couple with more than 2 kids, or worse - a two child family who may have lost a parent, you aren’t welcome here. The owner believes that if they allow this they would “go out of business”. Sounds pretty discriminatory to me. Very ironic as I would have thought giving appalling service, turning away very loyal customers who eat there very regularly (we used to eat here at least 8-10 times per year), and being anti children in East Dulwich is more likely to kill your business. But good luck to you. Two families and regulars won’t be visiting again.

When you walk into a pub and the first exchange is " if you are not eating you can only stand at the bar"...you know another pub has lost its purpose as a meeting place and center of community. Gstropub be dammed..

We went here for a family meal and the food was absolutely delicious. Every one of us was very pleased. The staff were so friendly and helpful and it all contributed to a lovely time at a fair price. We highly recommend!

It's a wonderful pub to visit. Some great beers on tap. Bar staff all excellent. Will knock together cocktails should you want them. Food was excellent. Could not fault that at all. Happily return for food and for drink.

The Lordship, as always, provided excellent food and service for our party of ten, enjoying meals from the Xmas Set Menu and Seasonal Menu – both of which provided a decent range of vegetarian and GF options. The venison haunch and sticky toffee pudding (served separately!) were considered especially divine. The staff were welcoming and helpful, with an added touch of bringing out our courses from the kitchen and distributing them according to our names on the pre-booking order (“vodka salmon for Peter”). The pub interior is spacious, and the atmosphere happy and lively. We will be continuing to hold our group bookings here across the year. Many thanks to all the lovely staff!

We stopped just for a beer and pudding and it was such a cozy time there. Friendly staff and tasty pudding. I wish to come back!

We had a most enjoyable family meal in this spacious, relaxed gastropub staffed by delightful, very attentive servers. The service was attentive but unhurried and all food was served delicious, beautifully presented and piping hot. Can’t fault it and hope to return.

A lovely pub with super staff who are exactly chatty enough and leave you feeling really looked after. We had roasts and my pork belly was perfect. The beef was arguably too generous (if that's a thing), I have a personal dislike of gravy-lubed peas rolling around in a roast, and please please more roast potatoes, but everything was really yummy and after a sticky toffee pudding was left perfectly full and very happy.

My favourite place to eat in East Dulwich never disappoint the service is 10/10 with food to match … it’s a win for me 🥰

I went for a wedding there and I had the chance to witness the work be hind the scene. Wonderful stiff, really friendly, and accommodating. The food was nice and the atmosphere relaxed.

Attended a private wedding and reception ....The venue, food, wine, and ALL staff were utterly superb and professional. Faultless. Highly recommend and I would give it 10 stars... 5 is not enough.

I have just celebrated a birthday with friends and family in the Private Upstairs Room. The service and food where impeccable and every guest commented in a very positive way. Chris, who oversaw the event, was friendly, helpful and efficient, ensuring everyone was looked after. I can usually find fault, but on this occasion, I could not.

Really lovely staff. The barman created a non-alcoholic Pimm's which tasted brilliant. The food was super tasty with no delays. The only criticism is the acoustics. With high ceilings and lots of reflective surfaces it is really difficult to hear people across the table. Some acoustic treatment would go down a treat! Just like the Pimm's. ☺️

Attended a wedding here. The pub was closed to the public and the whole pub was for the wedding. Food was great. It was put in the middle of the table so that everyone could help themselves. Those with dietary requirements had theirs brought separately which was great. Veggie option was delicious and came with its own jug of gravy. The staff were friendly and attentive. The pub itself is a good rustic venue with a small outside area.

Incredibly loud and inconsiderate to neighbours.

The food and wine here are fantastic - big fan of the seafood in particular. Service is always top notch. They often hold wedding receptions (I guess because the food is great!) so it's not always easy to get in. I’m hoping it’ll be easier now autumn’s arrived!

My sister in law had her 50th birthday here and it was frickin awesome. The staff (especially Alex) were terrific, the venue perfect, the food unexpectedly delicious and it resulted in a brilliant party.

A lot of the photos from events hire make this pub look a bit uptight/fancy but on an ordinary week day it had a welcoming chilled vibe with friendly staff and really good food.

Sunday lunch needs work for the price. Very echoey. Often full of lots of children, so if that’s not your thing avoid. Nice little beer garden but weirdly no smoking allowed

Beautiful place with a wonderful atmosphere. I highly recommend that anyone near or passing try this place. Upon walking in, it was beautifully lit with lovely decor. The staff were truly lovely and very attentive. Nothing was too much trouble. The menu is wonderful and very fairly priced. Food was absolutely incredible. Every one of us (party of 6) ate every bit of food and thoroughly enjoyed it. Everything was cooked to perfection. Made for a very special 50th birthday celebration. Next time I'm down in London, I'll definitely be visiting again. 10 out of 10. You will not regret popping in whether you're having a drink or a meal.

I recently attended a wedding reception at The Lordship Pub where the whole pub was booked out for the party. We started in the beer garden for drinks and delicious canapés and then moved inside for the more formal parts of the day/evening. All the staff were so friendly and welcoming, the food was excellent, the management were very attentive and organised and everything flowed beautifully. A brilliant celebration. Would definitely recommend.

I visited to attend a wedding. It's a lovely pub, great atmosphere, beautifully decorated for the wedding. Staff is so welcoming, and the outdoors are also lovely. I would definitely recommend this place for parties, for dinner, drinks and music, and for wedding receptions too. They surely know how to make everyone feel happy and how to create a whole beautiful ambience

We used the private function room at The Lordship for our sons Christening. They were amazing from organisation through to execution! Super hands on, helpful and amazing service. The food on the day was fantastic and we had a constant flow of booze to keep the guests happy! No ask was too much! Really made the occasion special. Thank you all very much!

Broccoli, pear and feta pie is one of the nicest meals I’ve had at any restaurant, pub, etc. Highly recommend

Our favourite local pub. We've moved to the area 3 years ago but can't stop coming back here. The menu is brilliant, the staff friendly and welcoming and the food is delicious. We had sunday lunch here yesterday and loved every second of it. Andrew, Chris and the team are always very attentive and really looked after us. We will keep coming back, thanks for a lovely Easter meal.

This review is mainly for the food, specifically the vegan Sunday roast. I have to say, unfortunately it was the worst vegan roast I’ve had which is disappointing as we’ve just moved a couple of doors down, so was hoping to become regulars. The vegan option was cumin & paprika cauliflower steak which I normally love, they can be delicious when seasoned correctly, this however was just a large lump of cauliflower, roasted, I couldn’t taste any seasoning at all, so effectively my roast was just a plate of vegetables. The vegan gravy, was like water, and I’m not exaggerating, it was like pouring water over my food, I had to mix in mustard to have some flavour and season almost every bite with salt and pepper. I left feeling like I’d wasted money and calories on tasteless food, again, super disappointing as the meat options all seem to get great reviews and my partner enjoyed his meat roast and gravy. Service however was lovely hence the 3 stars instead of 1.

Went to the Lordship last night for a meal with some friends. Upon arrival, wanted to sit in the bar area for a drink before heading to our table for food. We were swiftly evicted as there was a party booked. This reinforced my feelings from before that the Lordship is definitily not a 'pub' any more as you can't really just go and drink. The pub was absolutely freezing everywhere and when mentioning this to staff, found out their boilers were broken. Feel like they should have messaged this to people with bookings as it was quite uncomfortable. As a vegan, I had only the cauliflower steak and chips as an option. When it arrived, it was actually fries, which I don't like. The dish was not at all filling and really not worth the money. All of this said, the staff are so lovely and attentive which made it a pleasant evening.
